What about the limited time RNG skins?

I have to say, I don’t like this idea of ‘prestige items’ and ‘destroying value’ that seems to have appeared in GW2. In GW1 there were no items and weapons that were yanked out of the game forever after introduction and never able to be found/achieved/farmed again. I get the idea of not wanting everyone to be able to get everything easily. I really do. I’m not asking to have something handed to me – before everyone starts to scream ‘entitled.’

No offense to people that have the jetpack, but how did they earn it? It was an RNG drop from a dungeon. Sure they maybe ran the dungeon a hundred times to get it, but if it’s an RNG drop I could have run the dungeon twice that many times and still not gotten it. That’s the very definition of random.

It’s really upsetting to me to see the art department release beautiful skins and to tell myself I have to hate them because RNG and I have never gotten along. I never get the RNG drops I want. Never. I’m not lucky. Everything RNG I’ve ever gotten I’ve either purchased from another player or been given by a friend who has amazing RNG luck. I don’t feel like opening RNG chests in a short span of a month is ‘earning’ something. It’s luck.

I’ve heard, though I missed it, that SAB had a method similar to the dungeons wherein you earned tokens and turned those tokens in for something. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE introduce a system like this for getting the new skins. I don’t care if you want to make them available in RNG only chests for awhile and let people pay for the chance to get them faster and easier. But it’s really disappointing to see such a small amount of the player base being able to enjoy these beautiful pieces of art.

I want to earn a fused weapon skin. I don’t care if it takes me a month or a year. But please give me a chance to do that. If the end game is all about personalizing our appearance, why, why, why make beautiful skins so extremely limited?

It doesn’t really matters to me if they count or not since i intended to do all of them anyway. My issue is that Anet handled the problem wrongly.

This is pretty much my sentiment. When I realized that Dragon Ball would be relatively easy for me despite having no PvP skill I went ahead and did them for the achievement points. I’m not upset they don’t count anymore. I even think lowering the number of achievements needed for the wings due to Dev booboos is fair.

BUT, I do think this situation has been handled poorly. Dragon Ball has been hopelessly bugged since its release. And half the frustrations have yet to be dealt with. There’s still no way to prevent AFK leechers ruining the game for those that enjoy it and want to play it because of that enjoyment.

Yes, clearer communication on the part of the devs as to what the bug was and what the intended fix was would have been nice. But what would have been even nicer would have been addressing the issues with Dragon Ball so that people could do what they’re supposed to do with it – enjoy it.

I know there’s going to be bumps along the way for any game constantly releasing content, but the sheer number of bugs in releases lately has my mind spinning. I don’t remember GW1 ever being quite this bad when it came to new releases, even if fixes were slow to come.

Unlike with most of the other living story content that’s been released, I doubt the dragon bash is going to be a one-off. We can probably expect it to come back next year, fireworks and all. Although if it’s anything like the first game, it might offer different hats next year instead of this one, so that might be cold comfort.

There were a lot of events in GW1 that were for one day only that gave you special hats. In the beginning, if you missed one, there was no way to get it. Unfortunately if you contact support (which you could try to do through the ‘ask a question’ tab on the support page), they’re probably going to tell you that. It sucks that the wiki was wrong, but A-net is likely to think a 3 day window was wide enough.

Eventually in the first game after people complained about not being able to get into the game on a certain day (especially when it was during the week), A-net added a hat vendor that was around for 1 week after the event. But they didn’t add that until several years after the fact, so I’m not sure if we’ll see anything like that happening here.

Sorry you missed the helmets I don’t like mine. I wish I could give them to you.

I don’t think they should look exactly the same as the holo wings. It’s more unique for both if they don’t. But I still do hope they clean up the animation and fix it so that it looks less floppy.

P.S.: don’t confuse SHATTERED WINGS with SHATTERER’S WINGS..

Except that they ARE the shatterer’s wings. Even the animation is the same, except the small version isn’t as smooth. You can confirm this by looking at the holographic version of the shatterer flying over LA. His wings are exactly the same as the shattered wings in the preview.

I will admit that I left the arena and came back a few times. I did this if I ended up on a team where at least one person was obviously AFK (because it’s a waste of my time). I did this if the game ended up being 5 vrs 3 and I was on the 3 person team (because it’s a waste of my time). Once I got dumped in a 1 v 1 arena and I left after the guy killed me once hoping it would give him an automatic victory because otherwise it was a waste of BOTH our time.

I like being able to drop in and out of the game in that it’s convenient if something comes up, but sometimes just trying to get into a decently fair match is hard. Maybe I’m not making that easier by moving in and out, but by the time I was on game 30 I got sick of being slaughtered in 5 v 3.

Now there were also plenty of times I stuck it out while my team got our butts kicked. Sometimes even while others were abandoning the team because we were losing. I don’t feel it’s unjustified to leave a team with an AFK player.

Edited to add: When I got on a team that was 5 v 5 I actually really enjoyed playing the game. There were a few times we came back from being over 100 points behind. Now I don’t know if that’s because people were leaving the other team, but I doubt it because there were some games we won by 20 or 40 points. And those were the games I enjoyed most because they challenged me to try to be good at the game even though I’m really not. It only takes a small string of being stuck on bad teams to make this game frustrating very quickly. And by ‘bad’ I mean ending up in a 5 v 3 or a team with AFK players not unskilled teams. Because I think as long as everyone on both teams is trying the game is fun, even if you lose.

because 20 wins? sounds too difficult if i have no skill.

I don’t know. I wouldn’t call myself skilled. PvP is definitely not my strong suit. But I’ve put my best into all my matches (skill or no) and out of 25 games I’ve won 14. Sometimes it comes down to luck, you need to have a team that’s all trying to get the wins. I’ve had some frustrating moments where I’ve left and come back because of a constant string of running into afk players. But when I can see all the players on my team moving I stick it out, even if people leave because we start to lose. I do 5 games a day because otherwise I get bored and I’ll probably have all my wins by the end of the day Monday without too much stress.

i am so horribly terribad at this game mode, but to i guess jump in and attend a session to pop the achievement, i guess it HAS to be done if i want dem wings.

Right now these acheivements don’t even count toward the wings. If and when they do, you could still skip them. There are 14 achievements in all, minus one that won’t count so 13. You need 10 for wings. That means you can sit out the moa racing AND Dragon Ball and still get the wings.

funny thing is dragonball achievements dont work for the main achievement event.

I do believe the devs posted in another thread saying this will be fixed sometime next week: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Dragon-Bash-Experience-achievement-bugged/page/2#post2215764

Best I can do is help with which half of the day. Go out and purchase an Ascalonian Catacombs weapon and equip it. When it’s glowing blue it is night time, fireworks will happen in under an hour. When it stops glowing blue fireworks start. If it’s not glowing blue and fireworks aren’t happening, come back in an hour.

Alternatively use or look for a Sylvari. Sylvari glow at night (unless the player has disabled it). Certain Sylvari armors also glow. Saves you the money. Or you could ask in map chat when the last fireworks show ran. True there are going to be some sarcastic people, but there’s bound to be a few helpful people who give you decent answers.

I don’t know if anyone has said this anywhere yet, but I think the simple solution to this is to make you click on something in between matches. IE “Do you want to continue?” or something to that effect. The problem is that it automatically assigns you to a new team if you don’t leave after the match is over. So people can Away From Keyboard very easily. If you have to accept moving on to the next round, people would have to put a lot more effort into leeching. At least if they were away they’d be kicked after one round. Maybe it’s not the best solution, but hopefully it would cut back the numbers.

As for me, I’m not a PvP player, but I play about 5 games of dragon ball every night to work on the achievements. Sometimes I do pretty well, sometimes I don’t, but no one’s ever been rude to me about my skill (or lack there-of). It’s actually a decently fun game when you aren’t stuck on a team with people away from keyboard. I don’t know if it’s the best practice, but I’ve taken to leaving when there’s obviously someone AFK on my team then re-entering in the hopes I get paired with active people. Sometimes I stay and endure, but honestly after three or four games with leechers it gets frustrating.

I don’t know, I took a peek at the shatterer above the city the last time I was in there. I can see how you’re saying they’re the same, the pattern is the same. But the animation of the small wings still looks much floppier to me on the human model than the hologram in the city. I’m not sure if it’s the speed or the size or what. But the shatter’s wing flaps still look more fluid and graceful to me.

Needs a fix and a good statement as to how this was even released in its current state.

Technically it’s not released yet. For all we know, we could be previewing an early version of the animation that wasn’t meant to be seen. I’m confident that A-net is going to look at the issues and brush it up nice and shiny by the time it goes live. For all we know, they already planned to do such.

Backpiece flaping?

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: StarbornStriker.6493

StarbornStriker.6493

1. Make the flapping a stop/start cycle: IE, flap for 5 seconds, pause for 5 seconds, flap for 5 seconds…etc, etc.
2. Make them flap only when you have your weapon out. Pause them when weapons sheathed.

Related to those two options, it’d be nice if they folded when not flapping.

I don’t mind the flapping, I think it’s beautiful. I like these two options though, especially the idea of the wings being folded when they aren’t flapping. Another suggestion is for them to flap a tad bit slower. I feel like they flap really fast.

I also found the improvements helped. I was able to run back and forth between about four or five nodes this time and most of the time I was able to reach them in time to tag at least 2-3 of the holos before they went down even if the holo was activated before I arrived. My biggest complaint about the event before was that you either had to risk missing the holos by moving between them or stand still in one place forever and wait. Feels much more active and co-operative now. Thank you A-net.

For the record, you can find the item code on the Wiki and paste it in chat to preview them (if anyone is curious, just learned this myself tonight).

Anyway I just previewed them on my human female elementalist and my male sylvari warrior. I have to say, the animation is much more fluid on the sylvari. On my human they looked a tad wonko, as if they were flapping very strangely and possibly slightly out of synch (almost like they were blowing in the wind and wanted to fly back like a parachute). On my Sylvari though they look very good. Not quite the same flap animation as the regular wings but the animation is much cleaner and seems to follow a more regular pattern. I’m posting this here in case it IS a bug, hopefully this information will be useful.

I didn’t play GW1, but anyone who plays GW1 please chime in on how ANet does holiday events there.

No one seems to have answered this yet, so for reference here you go

In GW1 the festivals were very simple and very easy. All you had to do for the special item was show up. At the end of every event there would be a big NPC that appeared in a major city or two and did an event. Such as Mad King Says with the Mad King at Halloween or the Emporor at the Dragon Festival and so on. The events lasted for about half an hour and you didn’t have to participate to get the item, just be present (so many people would dump themselves in a city and Away From Keyboard the entire day). The only event that required you to get tokens for a hat was the dragon festival (I believe) and you only needed 250 of them, easily doable with one character if you completed all the festival quests.

There was one festival that gave you the same lion hat every year (I want to say it was the dragon festival but I don’t remember for sure). Aside from that, the hats were different every year. So if you wanted every hat you had to be present at every single festival until the devs put the game into ‘ghost mode’ for GW2 and added vendors that allowed you to get hats from missed festival years (in place of getting new hats every year).

This is as close to a prestige item as GW1 ever had. There were green items that had to be farmed, but often they could be reproduced with non-green skins. There were also other items sometimes available at the festivals such as the celestial minis, which originally had to be RNGed from lunar fortunes (or purchased from other players) but can now be purchased from a vendor during the celestial ceremony. You could also craft candy cane items at Christmas. I would say that candy cane shards (needed for weapons and other Christmas items) were the most grindy and hardest to get items in the first game festival wise, but even then you didn’t need a 100 of them to make something. I think you needed like 10 or 20.

So you can see there’s quite a big difference between how festivals were run in the first game as opposed to how they’re run now. And while yes, Arena Net DID create tittles that couldn’t be achieved in one year, they were in no way related to festivals – they were all the time persistent things that you could work on all year. And special festival items (hats) were only ever available for one year.

So the fear here is that the wings will only be around for one year and then never appear again.

I don’t think anyone wants them to be easy. I don’t. I don’t mind a challenge. But logistically, it makes more sense right now to get the money to buy them from the TP than it does to try to save 100,000 candies for a set of wings.

Also I think a lot of people’s complainants about the activities aren’t that it’s challenging but rather that it’s not. I don’t really feel like I’m being rewarded for completing an activity so much as I am mindlessly hitting the same things over and over until I hit the requisite number. But I don’t think making it more like the first game is the answer either since, obviously, you didn’t really have to do much in that case already. And the ‘hats’ (the dragon helmets) are already being rewarded in a manner similar to the first game anyway (by requiring you only to watch a fireworks show in town available every couple of hours).

So hopefully something in there was helpful Cheers!

StarbornStriker.6493

I feel like everyone has said most of what I feel, but hopefully united voices will get us some change.

These holograms are the most horrible activity I’ve yet encountered in GW2. I thought running around and hitting the pinatas was slow, mindless and grindy, but at least I was constantly moving.

Your choices here are to stand around and wait what feels like forever for something to spawn or spend money to waypoint back and forth and risk not getting there in time to tag the spawns and get credit for the kill. Even if you have a group waiting for you, if one non-group member runs up and activates the spawn, everyone pretty much has to rush to kill them to get credit and if you were waylaid for one reason or another… well oh well.

I’m all for a challenge. I’m not saying I want this to be easy. But I think I’d rather bash my head against a wall or watch paint dry than wait around for 8 minutes for one of these to respawn. I definitely don’t want to keep draining all my money on waypoints because I’m still a fairly new player to the game and money is something of an object for me (I very rarely use waypoints).

This activity doesn’t seem to be in the spirit of GW at all. It isn’t active. It isn’t fun. It doesn’t encourage me to work with other people. And I’m not a fan of the Dragon Ball either. It’s not the kind of activity I like and people are away from keyboard in there making it an even more frustrating exercise. But I’d still rather be frustrated by that than trying to kill these holograms.

(Edited to include that I don’t mean to sound like I hate everything in the new update. I’m sure people like the Dragon Ball activity, PVP just isn’t my thing.)

Please, please fix this. Give them more health and make them spawn more often. I actually liked the way things were in South Sun where you could run from event to event and there was always something going on. The key words there being there was always something happening. The achievement encourages farming in the first place so why make it so mind-numbingly difficult?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I’ve read you need the omelette achievement to achieve “Southsun Stalwart.” Part of me wonders if I should even bother with the content since I’m incapable of completing it due to the high level cap.

You do not need the omelette achievement to achieve Southsun Stalwart. You need to complete 25 achievements to get the title (and the Exotic backpack), but there’s 35 different achievements you can choose from.

Thank you. The guide I was looking at made it difficult to tell if there were more than one option for this. It seemed to list the number of achievements you got for each activity but didn’t list any extras (perhaps they were just listing the easiest activities). This is a relief to me because I would really like to complete the new content. And I’m one of those weird people who don’t mind jumping puzzles, so I should be good

StarbornStriker.6493

I know the devs are unlikely to comment any further on this issue, having already answered the question, but I’m really frustrated with this.

I’m just now sitting down to look at the guides for this event because I’m planning on doing it with some friends this weekend. My main character is level 54. Aside from occasionally doing dailies on another character, I play this character almost exclusively (my alternate character is only level 17). I joined the game a month ago during the free trial period and I have limited time to play, especially during the weekdays.

Due to coming into the game halfway through the previous storyline, not realizing in time it was going to be temporary content (there’s a lot to figure out when you start this game and extra story stuff was not a top priority), and not starting with a Norn or Char character, I ended up not having a chance to finish the Flame and Frost content. What I did participate in was fun, although I’m disappointed I didn’t really have a chance to get any of the skins.

But now as a result of sitting at too low a level, I run the risk of not being able to complete the South Sun storyline either. Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I’ve read you need the omelette achievement to achieve “Southsun Stalwart.” Part of me wonders if I should even bother with the content since I’m incapable of completing it due to the high level cap.

I understand the need for end-game, high-level content, but I’m really starting to feel punished for being a new player. I’m sure a bunch of people will reply to this and tell me I did have plenty of time for the previous content and I do have plenty of time for this one. But the reality is, that just isn’t true. I have a life outside of GW and while I love this game, I don’t feel like power leveling because, frankly, it takes away my enjoyment of the game. So will I be able to make the jump from level 54 to 75 by June 4th? That depends on real life. And my real life doesn’t and never will revolve around the game.

I’m going to be severely frustrated to end up with two unfinished and unfinishable achievements just because I was a late comer to the game. I love the idea of a living, breathing world, but at the moment it’s just making me feel like I’m missing things rather than getting to learn new and exciting things about Tyria.
