I just started a GS ranger build for dungeons. Ran a few today and was up in the front lines doing just fine. All aspects need to be considered, Gear/Runes/Traits/Skills, all very important.

I carry Shortbow, Longbow, Greatsword, Sword, Axe, Warhorn, and Speargun for Underwater.
I used to use a torch, but I just feel that it is lacking overall. Have not spent much time with dagger.

First off, I love HotW. By far my favorite dungeon, the environment, the stories, enjoy it all. However, I agree that the bosses.. all of them, are pathetic. Not saying, easy, or hard, or poorly designed. I’m just saying that they really don’t require much thought. There is no random element’s, they don’t randomize their attacks, there are no “Awesome Moments” There is a lot of “Auto Attack → dodge red circle → auto attack” And every once in a while you may throw in a “destroy totem”
Maybe a week ago, I started doing all the other dungeons, and I’m getting the same vibe from pretty much all of them. There are the occasional bosses that I really enjoy, and at the same time are extremely frustrating, which have some unique mechanic that is different from everything else in the game. But even still, once you figure it out, you spend forever whittling down their massive amount of hp.
I’ll also add, that over the past week or so, I have slowly been rethinking my stats/build/weapons/skills towards a more support focused Ranger, and while I am still adjusting, I am enjoying the dungeons I do a lot more and have found them to be going much faster and much easier. Don’t remember last time I had a full party wipe and most bosses feel like they are going down a bit faster, although they still have way to much hp.
(Excellent post Lumines, I very much agree with you, based on my own experiences now)
And while I am enjoying the dungeons as they are, minus few small annoyances, I will agree that there is a whole heck of a lot that could be done on Anet’s part to make them more fun and just as difficult if not more so.

All of the legendary weapons require a Bloodstone Shard, so I wouldn’t be so quick to use it on some random exotic.

Legendaries should be hardcore, and I’m really happy with the way they are. Good job!
I would really hate to see everyone running around with them after a few monts, even years.
Please, don’t change this to something easy, like you guys have a tendency to do.
Let there be a part of the game for the hardcore ones, as everything else is too easy.
I agree with this, except in it’s current state, it is not “Difficult” They are just time consuming. The problem is with the randomness of the Mystic Clovers and the Pre-Cursors. Even Mystic Clovers are not that bad, I could live with that. Basically they can leave everything else the same, and just change how people acquire the Pre-Cursors and the so called Legendary’s will still be extremely rare and only those that have dedicated a huge chunk of time and effort will have them.
I mean seriously… Have you taken a look at everything you have to gather/complete/buy/craft to get the other 3 items needed to combine with the precursor.
Personally, I think that part of the problem is that people want them NOW. And they were not designed to be acquired so quickly. I don’t expect to have one until the first expansion comes out, but because of the randomness of that kitten precursor, I really just don’t even want to bother at all. It’s frustrating.

Here ya go… We did wipe multiple times when we got there, while trying to figure it out. After we figured it out, we did wipe one more time due to being knocked off the platform. I have since been back to this guy and I don’t recall if he still knocks people off. But ya, so thats what happened when I got knocked off, but we got right back up and did it again, this time to completion. You’ll also notice some random joining in at the very end but he did not help out at all.
80’s – Necro/War/Ele/Guard
Its funny cause I did this as a duo during three day headstart. Pain the kitten for sure but possible. Will upload vid and link it when I get home.

@Namu I suppose they could just walk around giving anyone and everyone the boot… legally, but then there would be a great number of people who could Legally take it to court which would end up costing ANET a ton of money and would probably cause as much if not more loss just from bad press.
While I agree, the bots are pretty obvious, there are plenty of people, myself included that farm specific mobs for extended periods of time. I try to hop around every 30 mins or so to avoid DR, but in 30 mins they could easily decide that I look like a bot and ban me even though I was playing the whole time.
Point is, as someone who has Purchased the game, you have certain rights from the moment you purchase the game by agreeing to the EULA there are rules you are supposed to follow in order to keep those rights. If you break the rules, you forfeit those rights, and ANET can ban you. However if that individual chooses to challenge that claim, take it to court, and ANET does not have adequate proof… well, it ends badly for ANET.

It’s called Thief vs Mesmer Wars
But in all seriousness, I think folks are taking this way to personally. I don’t know what you all have been doing that makes it so you easily notice that 40 milliseconds or whatever, but I’ve been using shortbow from the beginning and I can honestly say that the only reason I even noticed a tiny difference was because of all the spam on the forums about how the SB was nerfed. If not for all the forum tears, I probably would still not know about the change. I haven’t even changed my build. I certainly don’t die more easily… the change has nothing to do with survivability.
80’s – Necro/War/Ele/Guard
I should write a guide to the why’s and what’s of banning, but here it is in short.
30 Characters = 30 Accounts, at ONE location, in ONE Zone, on ONE Server.
Lets assume they only farm in one location per zone, and they are currently farming in 10 different zones, on 10 different servers. (Obviously there are far more than this)
But assuming thus, that would mean there are 3,000 botting accounts.
Now, they are breaking the rules and will absolutely be getting the ban, however ANET must assume that each of these accounts was purchased. It’s a business and there are laws. (No subs means it should be slightly easier but still… a business with rules/laws..)
As such, they are required to gather evidence that these individuals are breaking the rules. To us, sure it should be a nice quick easy Look>See>Ban, but your forgetting the evidence part. In the event that whoever they ban decides to take it to court, which they could do, ANET needs irrefutable evidence that the individual was violating the EULA that they can present to the court, this could be Video, Screenshots, Chat logs, if they have the tools, they can log any macro script the bot is using, etc. Now given that many of these things could be easily edited (Video/Screenshots/Chat) they need to gather multiple examples of this for each account.
When I worked at Mythic, a good time frame was about 15 mins per ban. This could vary from 15 mins to an hour depending on what exactly the violation was, how intricate the bot script was, and any number of other complications.
So again, lets assume ANET is on top of their game, and it only takes 15 mins per ban.
(15 min) x (3000) = 45000 min or 750 Hours
10 People working 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week, doing ONLY bot banning…
It would take them the entire week at a minimum.
Then take into account, that there are probably far more bot accounts than that, that these botters seem to have no trouble getting more accounts, and that ANET has plenty of other things going on so they probably are not able to simply dedicate people to solely ban bots all day.
When you look at the big picture… it kinda blows your mind doesn’t it

You are not alone!
I have been anticipating this exact issue for some time now, but it wasn’t till just now that I became certain I have this bug. I now know for certain as I just finished my final zone, (Eternal Battlegrounds). I have now completed everything 100%, but my map says I am only at 98% and lists several uncompleted tasks.
500/507 WP
705/717 PoI
260/266 Vistas
I have completed all the explorer achievements, I have been through every zone to verify that all zones are 100%.
My guess is that this is due to some sort of server rollback that happened at some point in time, where we had completed certain tasks giving credit for the individual zones, but due to the rollback this progress was erased from our “Been There, Done That” Achievement and overall map completion.
It would be really nice to get some kind of response from ANET in regards to this issue.

I wondered about this as well. I really don’t think they exist in game yet, but it seems kinda silly that they have legendary weapons but no legendary armor.
80’s – Necro/War/Ele/Guard
This thread is silly.
The way the blog was worded, I thought they were going to add a new sPvP map that focused on an iceberg.
As for renting Custom Servers, I would be ok with it costing gems per month, and depending on how they set it up, perhaps anyone in the guild could donate gems towards the cost.

They do look better Melles.

You ran the dungeon, all the gear you can get with tokens can be previewed. Ultimately your own fault if you feel like you wasted your time.
Other options though, Transmutation or Mystic Forge.
80’s – Necro/War/Ele/Guard
To kick requires approval. And planning.
I doubt you can be a jerk randomly. It require premeditation.
Right, which means that it only takes 2 people. This has been in the back of my mind for a while now. As during one dungeon run a week or so ago, there was a guy who was having internet connection issues and kept getting dropped. Without even asking about it, the group leader kicked and another guy approved.
Now was he helping the team out, no not really he kept getting dropped, but it was then that I realized how easy it was to kick people out of a group, and with this new system where you only get tokens at the very end, it’s really fricken easy to screw someone out of their rewards.
Why people would plan to do this I have no idea, from what I can tell their is no bonus for completing a dungeon with fewer people, so really this is just straight up griefing, and pretty awful at that. Something absolutely needs to be done to prevent people from spending time on a dungeon just to be kicked out before they get their loot.

Just want to say, I am on Sanctum of Rall, and I am not Exploiting or Hacking! I’ve barely even touched WvW. So instead of accusing a server, how about you report the people that are actually Exploiting and Hacking. And this isn’t exclusive to a single server either.
Thanks.

Holy smokes this is a long thread with nothing of value. I have seen and experienced both sides of the fence, of what I think the thread is about, and I’m enjoying whats available as much as I can, with hopes that some improvements will be made.
On a personal note, making a thread with nothing of value is a waste of everyone’s time. To say XXXXX is the worst. It makes me so frustrating. They need to fix this.
And then end post, does nothing to help the game, or to help players. Please, add content to your post. Explain why, what things you encountered to make you feel this way. “This sucks, see you in few months” does nothing, and if I was a dev, I wouldn’t spend two seconds trying to figure out what your problem is.
80’s – Necro/War/Ele/Guard
It’s possible that this is a bug, but since it’s happening with several of them, I’m guessing it’s intended, and thus I am making a request to have this changed…
I currently have 6 different Superior Runes, that are soulbound. My only option is to vendor these items. I can’t sell on Trading Post, and I can’t put into Mystic Forge. I suppose I could use them, but they aren’t the runes I want.
Now as to why they are soulbound, I do not know. I created them out of the Mystic Forge, by combining lesser runes. Now I’m guessing there is some specific reason they are soulbound, but I don’t understand why they can’t be placed into the mystic forge to be combined to make a different Superior Rune. You can place Soulbound Major Runes into the forge, why not Superior?
My Suggestion: Allow Superior Runes to be combined in the Mystic Forge to create a different Superior Rune.

Same thing I said in the last “Complaints about Master Crafter”
First off, congratulations. Quite an accomplishment in my opinion. Not sure how difficult it actually is, but I just don’t have the drive to do it, at least not right now.
In regards to your “issues” Don’t mean to sound mean, but it sounds like a personal problem. As a new player, the only incentive any player has for doing this, is the Master Crafter Achievement. There was never any mention of any other reason to do this, unless you count the fact that you could level from 1 to 80 by doing so.
Would it be cool if they did add something to it, sure, but you can’t be mad or upset that there isn’t any bonus, because they never said there would be.
On the plus side, being a Master Crafter allows you to craft all the Legendary components on your own, despite the extreme cost, is still a cool thought.
Would also like to add, that with only 2 crafting disciplines on my character, I have made approx 10g just this weekend from crafting. That’s 10g profit. You can make money, just takes time, patience, and a good idea of the market.
Goodluck.

Why is it, that if a team of players have the playing ability and coordination to complete ‘difficult’ content in a fast manor, that they should be penalised? …
Because your not completing ‘difficult’ content in a fast manor, your bypassing it. I did the speed runs a few times and I moved on to something else, because I did not find it fun. I didn’t feel like I was even playing the game.
Now my opinion should have no bearing on what others think is fun, and I understand that. But I do have a problem with how skewed the economy became from the mass farming of this dungeon… anything that drops in CoF dropped massively in price, and the market became flooded. Everyone and their mother is now running around with the CoF armor, which makes it.. in my opinion, not rare or cool. Quite honestly, I have lost respect for anyone I see wearing it, which is unfair to those individuals because they might be cool people.. but based on what I saw of the speed runs of CoF, those people have earned something that was supposed to be unique and rare… for nothing.
And those speed runs did not require ability or coordination.. I joined a pug, 3 of whom didn’t even speak English. I followed them, and then I followed the instructions for the events. And completed it as easily as I run through metrica province as a level 80.
Personally, I think they should make it so that mobs in dungeons have no tether, that way there is no avoiding content. Everything else they could keep the same.
But whatever, just my opinion on the matter. I think Honor of the Waves is infinitely more fun and challenging, and I’m not worried about how long it takes to get a full set of the armor.

I do like most the points you have made. However, I don’t feel that the thread heading is appropriate. Coming from a Customer support background in Video Games, if someone starts off in such a manner as “This sucks” I immediately lose respect for anything that follows. I did take the time to read your post though and agree with your points.
I also don’t think “Crafting” sucks, I feel that a more accurate statement would be that “Being a Crafter” sucks. Because the actual system of crafting I think is actually really well done. The interface, the access to storage, the various mechanics of crafting/refining in bulk, are all really excellent ideas.
