MF Testing

I usually farm with non MF wearing people and as far as mats I find we pull in roughly the same amount of similarly tiered items.

What I DO find is in my 70% MF kit on I get better equipment drops than they do. That’s not to say that I don’t get a whole ton of blues and greens and even whites, I do. But now and then I get a yellow or even sometimes an orange when they’re still getting greens.

This, coupled with the updates effects on randomizing nodes so sometimes they give a heck of a lot more than they used to, seems to have made farming a lot easier rather then harder lately. At least for me.

You can’t change race or class it impacts your story chain as well as several other constants in the game (what if you have race specific skills, are you gonna want a refund for points spent in those too?)

Stop being a kitten, make a level 1 of the character you really want now and grind your way back up to high level.

Ps. Your dungeon tokens are account not soul bound, you can actually use your high level char to farm goods and supplies for your lower one and speed the whole thing up by a lot.

precursor STILL too expensive

in Black Lion Trading Co

TabMorte.5297

The only way to lower the prices of items is to not pay for them. The BLTP is a capitalist market with only 1 rule – you can’t sell cheaper than it costs. Beyond that the only limit to the price is what people are willing to pay for it.

So if a precurser is selling for 400g that’s not anything that Anet has established or even anything to complain to them about. Complain to the players who pay it.

Alternately, buy a bunch of cheap exotics and throw those in the forge…. then make a thread when you don’t get what you want like everyone else does, or cheer as you make 390 on the market yourself.

@weredragon > I think your statement depends on what you consider to be ‘insane amounts of gold’.

3 months ago the idea of having 1 gold was OMG IT’LL NEVER HAPPEN! Now the prospect of making less than 1 gold in a day hurts my heart a little bit. $20 for 40 gold is not worth it for me personally now (if you’d asked me 3 months ago I would have said OH HECK YES!), so I would never buy gems to turn into gold.

Beneficial to folks with some cash and low level characters I think, but not so much to people who are tapped out at 80 on one or more.

Oh yes. And frankly I personally would rather just pay the $10 for 800 gems or what ever the static real money cost is in the store (which is the point I imagine), but the option is still there for those who want or need it.

That said there is nothing at all that is mandatory for play in the store either. It’s just vanity and convenience. There is no barrier to play by opting out of the store entirely. (though I consider being forced to limit ones self to 1 bank slot to be cruel and unusual torture personally).

Maybe. As a numbers person I would love to see some hard numbers from ANet though I expect those are unlikely to be available for a while yet. IF though you go to http://www.gw2spidy.com/ you can get a lot of data on gold and gems and sales patterns and you’ll see that there wasn’t a huge spike on Nov 22 like you might expect if suddenly people were like ‘OMG I have money now I can get gems!!!’.

I would suggest a lot of those previously poor people with cash probably dumped it into the NPC and PC outlets in the game economy and bought things like t3 armor and good runes and such but probably not a lot dumped them into gems, at least if they did they didn’t immediately. The incline is pretty steady around the event and spikes quite a bit before it (around the 14th) and in the last few days (around the 28-29).

And still, we’re talking about 14 – 16 gold to buy 800 gems (enough for a holiday outfit, or another character slot, or some bank slots for example). That’s not unreasonable for vanity and convenience items with the maturity of the game where it is now. If you have tapped out at level 80 most players can save that up in 1 – 2 weeks playing their main (it takes a lot longer when you’re levelling lower level characters though).

I expect another spike just before the Winter’s Day event starts so… if you think you’ll need gems then that you’re going to buy with gold, buy them now.

I am 790+ hours into the game, have one 80 char and a huge spread of others and I’m still finding new things and places all the time.

I think it’s only too short for those who are really fixed on linear progression and don’t deviate from that, but if you’re willing to try new things and explore a lot there is always, always, always something to do.

I think that’s a false premise and assuming the Karka event made a lot more millionaires than it did.

The precurser drops were very low (remember our population size is very large here, though I don’t know how many participated in the event exactly or what the drop rate was) and when they were purchased it was a redistribution of wealth because other PCs bought them from other PCs. It didn’t change the amount of coin in the in game economy at all and even if you assume the ONLY people who got good things were ones who had less than 10G (which is a weak premise, since I would actually say the majority of people involved in the event had well kitted, high level chars), then all it did was take gold that the people with +200G (which by your premise would likely have been spent in the gem store) and moved it to others (who you assume will spend it in the gem store). Thus nulling out any effect.

Actually the event in Lost Shores itself I don’t think had a huge impact on the economy, if anything, by flooding the market with high value items it lowered the value of them and thus removed profits that would other wise be gained from selling them at a lower price.

Southern Coast does have a higher drop rate of certain t6 mats though than other areas and that might cause a slight bump in the gold out there for farmers but the rate of drop is not so insane that I think it would upset the economy, in fact at about 1 – 2 g an hour of concentrated farming, it makes for a pretty reasonable and reliable place for people to earn coin with out earning insane and disturbing amounts of coin.

You don’t HAVE to get it. It is a nice reward and frankly while I don’t <3 Fractals, it’s worth it for me to do 7 (which is two levels + 1 fractal) to get the jugs of karma + all the loot and XP from the trip. On the trading post, well AcidicVision is about right. I’m sure there will be a scavanger hunt and/or jumping puzzle for additional rewards and at the end Tix will give out something (a hat or scarf) that everyone can get for free.

Are we not allowed to earn gold?

TabMorte.5297

Now Dungeon are kitten slow to build up enough tokens to buy anything. I wish there was a scaled diffecult system almost like the fractals with a higher drop rate as you get to higher levels cause it’s hard enough to get a group together to run 1 dungeon run rather then 3 (that’s like 3 – 4 hours for 120 – 150 tokens).

Maybe 3-4 hours for Arah, but not other dungeons (depending on group’s ability, but most PUGs I’ve run with are fairly good at running now). A full non-Arah explore dungeon run can take around 1 – 2 hours of your time (or less), give you 78s and 180 tokens (which can buy 1 of the exotic pieces in a set priced at 180 tokens… and there are 3 pieces in an armor set that are priced at 180 tokens) just from finishing the paths. By the time you factor in vendoring and selling certain things to the TP that you found in drops, you’ve easily walked away with close to 2g.

::EDIT:: The flipside being, the more people doing this and not getting mats, the higher priced the mats go as supply is low yet we’ve only pumped more gold into the system.

Clearly I need to find some more dungeon going veterans. Most groups I’ve tried with take about 45 to an hour per path.

On the flip side, personally I’m earning way more money now than I was a month ago.

Currently my tactic is not to farm the same area two days in a row. Frostgorge one day, Fireheart the next, Southern Coast the next then down into the Orr areas. Never do the same thing twice in a week, don’t farm for more than an hour at a time. So far reliably I’ve picked up 1 – 3 gold a day this way. Not the insane 25 g a day that some people want but I think this is a fairly reasonable rate of return.

Between that and my other adventuring and dungeons I pull in more I’m sure but I actively don’t keep track of profits for anything but farming.

Shall we start a rant next about how people who use their solo skills in dungeons are selfish too because they’re only buffing themselves and not the whole party? Oh maybe people who are playing Elementalists are not suitable party mates either cause they’re squishy?

You’re idea that there’s ONLY ONE WAY to support the party is frankly wrong. As I said there are only two things that are important in a dungeon – that everyone helps and that everyone has fun.

So maybe next time you’ll miss out on a player that knows the dungeon you’re doing super well and could guide your group through it with out needing to be buffed to the eyeballs and everyone could have gotten more loot? You’ll never know.

hey I found a 5th member to run fractals level 34…..inspects gear nope im not taking him, his ring has magic find on it…..spends another hour looking for someone at level 34

You contradict yourself simply because that defeats completely the argument of “you can’t tell anyone how they should play”. So why should you tell people they have to spend 30 mins more doing a dungeon because they refuse to wear normal gear?

Yeah, how hard it must be to find the “perfect team”. /Inspect, no MF gear…welcome to the group. Even green gear is better than exotic MF. I’d like to see how many of you actually have exotic MF gear and not just green jewerly/rare armor which is quite common to see.
People is only afraid of inspect feature because they can’t lie anymore, as i said i’ve yet to see many people who asks for exotic gear.

I think it depends. I probably play 50% of the time alone, 50% of the time with people (usually guildies but sometimes with folks I grab at random on the map).

When I play alone it’s usually cause I’m either farming, or working on my world completion or just in a mood where I’m going to start and stop a lot. I was a single player game player for years and decades until I found GW2 and sometimes I just wanna do my own thing.

What I love about this game is the ability to opt in and out of multiplayer content when I want. Beyond dungeons and WvW if I don’t want to deal with other people I don’t have to and both those things are easily avoidable if I’m not in the mood.

I don’t think you can have any idea what a class is about at 2nd level. Many of them don’t really kick into gear until you have skills and traits.

I do agree, but at the same time I really haven’t got time so play all the classes just to pick one to stick with… What I mean is, I can guess the kind of playstyle I would be using if I chose that class, for example if I were the elementalist I will probably find myself following people around for protection (I hate that) and the guardian I will probably find myself running in to fights where I probably shouldn’t (I do that anyway, but it’s nice to have a class that can back it up with their melee skill) I get that this’ll change later on (I didn’t REALLY start liking ranger until about level 10), but I can’t play all the professions at once, so I’m asking for people’s opinion/experience…

You should take a few classes then and go to PVP where you’ll have access to all the skills and be up leveled to 80. Then you’ll have an opportunity to see what the future of the character is.

Since the gods are missing, “The Great Snowball Fight of the Gods (PvP)”, cannot be hosted since lorewise, it would make no sense on GW2.

Edit: Was looking forward to that too.

In the spirit of the costume brawls at Halloween I’m sure they’ll find a way for snowball fights to return, though maybe not in the exact same form they were in before.

I personally <3 the events. They keep the game from getting stale and give us fresh and interesting things to do. This particular event is long (almost 3 weeks!) which will give everyone ample time to participate and have festive fun.

I don’t think you can have any idea what a class is about at 2nd level. Many of them don’t really kick into gear until you have skills and traits.

Personally, I love it and I can’t wait to see Lion’s Arch all wintery.

Wow, I generally hate the human armors but you made this one look sweet, nice coloring.

Dear Toymaker Tix,

I would like a new pet for my ranger
Reindeer
New high things to jump off of
New things to burn down
Mistletoe
A Candy Cane staff for my Christmas Character
A jumping puzzle that will make me curse and cry and scream… until I complete it at which time I’ll be elated.

PS. A santa hat would be nice too

if you did all the content (all dungeons explo and map complete), obviously you will play less.

but thats like 400h ?

i mean.. that would have been playing minimum 30hours a week since release.
do you think a lot of people have done that??

I’m well over 400 hours and I have on my highest level character only 70% map completion and I have maybe done 1 path in a handful of dungeons and a few fractals. Mind you I do spend a good deal of time in WvW and I do have many character so I’ve run through the low level stuff multiple times but still!

Exploring all the content in the game does not just take hundreds of hours, but I would suspect a thousand or more.
