Orichalcum nodes need a level lock

Heck no. I use my black lion picks and such in world v world.

As far as I’m concerned if you can get a character to a place you deserve what you can get. And if you can limp a level 2 char to an Orichalcum node (one hit from ANYTHING will kill you), you deserve the reward.

what does kitten even mean

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TabMorte.5297

Well ANet just slots it in in the place of any curse word so you have to just figure it out via context.

That said, I’ve just started using the word kitten rather then curses all over the place because of it. I am thinking in that context it might mean bottomkicking.

80 doesn't feel like achievement

For me while level 80 itself didn’t feel like an achievement, finishing the storyline for the game and killing Zhatian certainly did.

Also if you want a real achievement, do world completion. It requires hard work, concerted effort (especially if you’ve run these levels a few times on other characters), and has lead to some surprising discoveries even in levels I’ve run a few times on other characters.

Most patches land at midnight or noon my PST, again not so big a deal during the week (and ideal for the east coasters as that’s 3am/pm for them), really annoying on the weekend though. I think sticking to the noon/midnight and weekdays only when possible would be ideal for almost everyone.

I think a big problem is that the Ranger, Engineer and Thief are such different classes. With light they’re all spell casters, with heavy they’re all fighters, so it’s easier to make a broad range of armors that suits them all. With the middle classes they’re a hodge podge.

“Gold sinks need to exist. That’s why you pay for the runes.”

Untrue, they do not need to exist, any type of sink that has no utility, and bag runes are one example are never needed. The only people that believe gold sinks need to exist are the devs…and you obviously.

This is not true.

Gold sinks need to exist to keep the TP economy from getting even more insane than it already is. The only things the dev control is the faucet and the drain and even the faucet is dubious given the ability of people to just buy into the economy with RL$.

There for they MUST use the drain to maintain a stable economy or they have to really wind down the faucet (lower drop rates even more).

Think about how much people are complaining about the cost of precursers and things on the TP. Imagine how much worse it would be if people (specifically the dedicated farmers who would gain exponentially more than the casual players) had even MORE money and there for were willing to pay even more?

Laying off workers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

First of all lay offs post launch are very normal in the industry (it takes less people to support than it does to develop). Secondly NCsoft is not ANet any how.

NCsoft has been struggling as a whole for a long while and this is very well known in the industry. ANet though seems to be doing just fine as far as the posted numbers from last quarter seem to indicate. I don’t see how any layoffs in NCsoft would diminish the support for GW2 as they don’t appear to have anything to do with ANet.

Economy Not Meant for the Casual Gamer?

TabMorte.5297

Thanks for the advice guys!

I guess one problem with me is I am a hoarder, but partly due to the fact that I am saving my crafting mats to level up various crafts on my alts (Which I actually planned out as to save the most money).

If you’re not crafting right now though, you’re basically spending the money any how to keep them by opting out of the profits. You can always always always go back and farm more crafting mats later if you’re not going to use them now. When I got really strict about only keeping mats of the craft and level I’m working on now, I started to generate a lot more coin. If I need something I just look up on the wiki where to get it and send my 80 out to pick it up for the crafter (though this is more time consuming but I ‘fill my orders’ in the morning while I’m having my coffee as it’s brainless work).

Economy Not Meant for the Casual Gamer?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: TabMorte.5297

TabMorte.5297

There are things you can do daily to add to your economic gains that don’t take a lot of time.

1. don’t play the mystic forge, unless you understand the odds of the drops it’s not going to go well for you.

2. don’t think about legendaries for yourself, start thinking about them instead as an opportunity for economic gain. Even the folks who play a lot are largely months and months out from getting legendaries and they’re not at all nessesary, but what IS a good thing to do is to familiarize yourself with the items that go into making the legendaries and where they can be found. If you’re clearing one of these areas with your main character, make a little side trip, send an extra 15 min in X area and you increase your chances of making a lot of $$.

3. if you’re not going to craft sell EVERYTHING. Do not Deposit all Collectables, sell them on the TP if they’re selling for more than 15% above cost and to a vender if they’re not. Everything goes. Also empty out your collectables bank of everything that’s not account bound, you probably have a few gold kicking around in there. You will be suprised how much you pull in when you’re not hitting deposit collectables.

4. 3 salvage kits – Crude, Black Lion, Master. (if you have no black lions then just crude and master). You use the Black Lion for anything that has an upgrade you want to salvage (if no BLSC then use the Master), the Master for anything with ectos or high value components, the crude for everything else. You will save money and maximize your salvage gain.

5. never pay to teleport to Lion’s Arch or any major city -> hop to WvW and use the portal from here (this can save you up to half a gold a day).

6. clear the world. You pick up a lot of items especially clearing out high level zones that are worth a good bit. Sell them all!

7. never pass up an opportunity to fight. Running past all the mobs is running past all the monies.

8. try and get the daily achievement every day you can, those Karma jugs if you use a Karma booster and a karma flag when you take them can add up to a LOT.

If you’ve got level 80 chars you should be able to outfit yourself in exotic level appropriate kit via several means, either gold, karma or dungeons and none of these take a huge time commitment (dungeons being the worst). Legendaries? Those are for the crazy fanatics though and exploiting their zeal is the best way to make yourself some guild wars gold.

Why would you do that?!

1. Buy bigger bags (make one of them an invisible bag, put it at the bottom).
2. Buy more bank slots

Put the things you need to carry in the invisible bag of the character. Then they will not get mingled in with the loot or accidentally sold.

Keep everything else in the bank until you need it (if you need things often carry some instant bank accesses if you have them from your BL Chests).

What would go a long ways towards helping guilds is a built in voice chat. At this point, there is very little excuse to not have one.

Yes there is.

The bandwidth for the graphics and sound and all the other data you’re already getting is huge from them. You want to throw in a voice chat client and almost effective double that? Also meaning they have to divert resources that should be supporting other aspects of the game (all those bugs everyone keeps complaining about) to developing, implementing and then supporting it. Also meaning they add further hardware demands for use of the product and that limits their audience and customer pool.

Why would they do that when there are a plethora of free and easy options out there for players to use such as Skype and Teamspeak? They do this FAR better than ANet is ever going to do it. Use them.

Reworking of waypoint costs

in Suggestions

Posted by: TabMorte.5297

TabMorte.5297

I never pay to port to a major city since I always use WvW & PvP → LA to get there for free. I really don’t care that it’s a bit of a hassle sometimes I end up even staying in WvW if I get there and notice the map is interesting and I think this ‘Wandering Tourist’ effect is intentional on ANet’s part, they don’t mind giving away access to lion’s arch for free if it gives exposure to parts of the game many still ignore. In fact I would rather they kept it this way for this reason than just gave free direct access.

I think at low levels the, even up to 60 the waypoint costs are pretty reasonable beyond that to be honest, it’s the steep incline after that between 60 and 80 that I found very frustrating, as at that point in the game you’re spending a lot on upgrades and armor repairs and such as well. I wouldn’t mind a slight smoothing of the sloop on that end if it was possible.

sell tax

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: TabMorte.5297

TabMorte.5297

If you won’t make a profit, don’t sell to the BLTC, instead sell to merchants.

Here are some rules to making money:

1. found things are 100% profit, always remember this
2. never sell to the BLTC unless you can sell at at least 15% over the base cost of the item
3. you do not have to sell at the highest offer to buy. You can instead list it at what ever price you want and hope for the best.

If it was lower than it is you would have a LOT more commodity traders on the BLTC, because if I can buy up a whole ton of something and flip it for even 1c more than I bought it for… well 1000 or 10,000 of those items adds up very quickly. The ‘sales tax’ helps keep the market stable and is a viable gold sink for taking coin out of the economy particularly for those who are putting vast quantities through the market. While I know it’s a pain in the kitten, the sales tax is actually to your benefit in a lot of ways.

We’re three months into a game that’s supposed to keep you busy for years. You’re not supposed to tap out at max equipment in 3 months. That’s a quest that should fill your down time between events for a long, long time. It is the quest. The ULTIMATE quest in the game. The crazy mini game you play when you’ve done absolutely everything else.

It’s a challenge to your stubborn perseverance and you’re willpower (cause who doesn’t look at a stack of 250 ectos and the price they’re selling for and think ‘I could be very rich very fast’).

It’s epic. And it’s supposed to be.

Those are hard won prizes and if everyone had them they would mean absolutely nothing. You would not be satisfied if you were getting the toy everyone else has. You would not feel a great rush of satisfaction and victory if you finally got your legendary, equipped it and then noticed 10 other people with the same one.

It is doable, with effort. But it isn’t easy. And it’s not supposed to be.
