I take it all back when I said WvW needs to be rewarding. PVE’rs will do anything, even things they dislike, for stupid achievement points. I hate people playing the game just for rewards and have nothing to contribute to the server. Guilds can’t raid because of this pugfest.

What are these ‘raids’ you speak of and why do feel that you and your guild should be entitled to do them and no one else?

No need to be so harsh. I think he was saying how much fun he was having before the update, and now he can’t have fun. I definitely empathize – I can’t get in either.

Apparently the Devs want more people to play WvW so they made this League deal a "Living World’ event and Surprise! Surprise!, there’s more demand than supply leading to frustrations among both regular WvW players and people wanting to get the achievements.

The OP is complaining about GW2 players responding to “Living World” events as they always do as if there’s something inferior to their playstyle especially as it seems to be interfering with his preferred playstyle. Denigrating other players because they don’t play the game the same way he does hardly seems like a worthwhile ‘contribution’ to the server.

No doubt the long queue times, etc, will wane some once the non-regular WvW players complete their achievements, but unless interest wanes in League play, there is still going to be the problem of there being more people wanting to play than there are spots to accommodate them. This new map idea has its’ merits, but it’s like going to a restaurant and having to wait at the bar until a table is ready for you. Sure, you might enjoy your time at the bar, but you didn’t go to the restaurant to drink, did you?

If the Devs want more people in WvW long term, they’re going to have to expand the number of spots available somehow. Otherwise this new-found interest in WvW will fade and it will just go back to the same low number (compared to PvE) of dedicated players. Having a new ‘waiting area’ does nothing to address this.

On current match up, JQ have the best free ride setup for them so IF* BG and SOR wants to win this season, they need to make sure JQ gets the 3rd place when it becomes
BGvsJQvsSOR.

Sold, we only need the approval of the holy church of jed…. w/e it was called, JQ ppl should know :P
in order to sign the treaty of peace for this first week and week 7 between BG and SoR for the sake of taking down a common enemy.

So your in TKT, The Karma Train, A Guild solely designed to troll Blackgate and your asking for their help. Time to rep your real guild because antaganizing a server through a troll guild and then trying to get them to 2v1 US seems like a flawed thought

I don’t think anyone has to antagonize JQ, they’re pretty antagonizing as it is, LOL!

But I think you’re missing the point (on purpose?). Looking at the way the schedule has been set up, it appears JQ has a much easier path to victory in this first Season than the other T1 servers. I have to question how this schedule was set up the way it was, but in terms of strategy there’s no question that it makes perfect sense for BG and SoR to focus on JQ when they have the chance. People can vent about 2v1s all day long but they are a fact of life in WvW (at least in T1) so quit the complaining and just deal with it already (if it actually happens).

Once again, Just like in all the other posts, Your placement in queue is random. Putting a counter wouldnt help you at all as your position is moved constantly.

Are queue positions really ‘randomized’? If so, that has to be the most kittened up way of going about things I’ve heard of in quite a while. It would seem to be pretty simple to use a system where the first person who queued up got to play first, the second person to queue gets to go second, etc, etc. But apparently such a process must be horribly difficult to code, eh? Otherwise why would they use a system so prone to player complaints, i.e. “I’ve been in queue for 2 hours but my guildie just logged on and he got in right away.”?

Oh, wait… I forgot to consider how enamored the Devs are with their precious RNG machine. So I guess it’s not all that surprising that they would use it here as well, no matter how inappropriate it is to the task at hand. If all you’ve got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail, eh?

If we had a “first in, first out” system instead, it would be eminently fair to all involved. You show up first, you get to play first, simple as that.

According to Dictionary.com, fail is a verb (with or without an object), a noun, an interjection, an adjective and can be used idiomatically.

How Legendaries Should Have Been

TobyTucker.5317

The first thing the player must do is truly become accomplished in the world of Tyria. Here are the first set of requirements:

- World Completion: 100% the world. (already in)
- Dungeon Master: All dungeons cleared, no wipe. There would now be a “Master” mode to all dungeon paths, resetting the dungeon if your group wiped. You would have to complete all of these for the Dungeon Master requirement.
- World Boss Completion: Must have participated and defeated all world bosses.
- Cleansing of Orr: Have cleared all Temples in Orr at some point, and be present in Orr when all temples are cleansed.
- Fractal Master: Achieve a high level in Fractals of the Mists. (Considering I have never participated in high-level fractals, it would be foolish of me to propose an arbitrary number. Something high, but not impossible. If that’s max level, then it’s max level)
- Master of Agility: Completed all Jump Puzzles.
- World Guardian: Completed a high number of WvW objectives and earned a high number of badges of honor.

You need to add these accomplishments as well:

Master of Gold Farming
Master of the Auction House
Master of Gem Buying

The only guaranteed method of getting the precursor you need for the Legendary you want is to buy it, so you need some Mastery of obtaining the gold you’ll require.

rant:

Did you do something “Legendary” when you killed that random mob? No. What makes you so special that you got that precursor? Nothing at all. The complete randomness of who gets a precursor and who doesn’t is the complete opposite of the idea of someone being a “master” of the game. Having the one ingredient you absolutely need for the weapon that shows you’ve “mastered” this game falling into your possession via a “lucky drop” is such a poor mechanic that I’m really surprised it made it into the final build.

TobyTucker.5317

Sure, a precursor could drop while you’re killing some random mob, but the chances of that happening are exceedingly slim. The only guaranteed method of getting the precursor you want is to BUY it. So sharpen up your farming skills or learn how to “play” the AH, ‘cause you’re going to need a lot of gold. Hopefully this will change if they finally introduce a way to craft precursors, but who knows when that’s going happen.

Of course, you could just buy the gold you need and ANET will be more than happy to accommodate you. As an example, $280 worth of gems will net you enough gold to buy Dusk (810g), if you’re interested in crafting Twilight. Or you could avoid all the tediousness and purchase a mere $680 worth of gems and buy Twilight (2000g) outright. (270 gems ~ 10 gold atm)* Chinese gold is no doubt cheaper, but that’s an iffy proposition, at best.

I just have to laugh when people put forth the argument that "A Legendary wouldn’t be “legendary” if everybody could get one", when it’s obvious that everybody CAN get one, if they’ve got a fat enough wallet.

*I hope I didn’t screw up the math, but you get the general idea.

What I DIDN’T get were mails telling me “You have 2 days left to vote”, “You have 1 day left to vote”, etc, and I’m sitting here with all sorts of support tokens left in my inventory.

How difficult would it be to send out in-game mail announcing upcoming deadlines? There doesn’t seem to be any problem with sending mail when something new is about to start, what’s the problem with sending mail when something is about to end?

This is why you shouldn’t leave things until the very last second.

We also got information yesterday about todays downtime and it was quite logical to assume that the patch might be live after said downtime.

If you’re someone who doesn’t read the forums every single day you were pretty much taken by surprise. And guess what, there ARE people like that. If you want to be that kid who says “I got my assignment done early”, when everybody else stays up late the night before completing it, remember how things worked out for that kid. The teacher loved him, but the other students felt otherwise.

If you read previous announcements, the event was supposed to end on the 6th. I don’t know how other people interpret that, but I understood it to mean you had the whole day of the 6th to finish anything you might be missing. And guess what, there ARE people who put things off until the last minute. And don’t tell me you don’t know people like that. If, for example, you’re someone who really isn’t a fan of fractals and figure, well, I’ll have to do those tomorrow, and then find out you can’t do the ones you need AT ALL, you’re not going to be very happy, to say the least.

I don’t know why the event was cut one day short, but I bet there were some few people who didn’t appreciate the change, especially without adequate warning.

TobyTucker.5317

I seem to be missing the “quote” widget so I’ll make this a standalone.

The problem SoR faces vs BG as far as ppt goes it that of mismatched primetimes. The bulk of BG’s players are online when most of SoR’s are not. I’m don’t know why there isn’t a separate Asian group of servers like there is a separate group of EU servers. At least their primetimes kinda match up instead of being completely out of whack. I can only assume that there aren’t enough Asian players to form their own group so they have to go somewhere.

The idea of points being scored proportional to the number of opponents faced attempts to address the inequities that the mismatched primetimes introduces.

If you’re gonna say “It’s a 24/7 game, live with it”, answer me this: Why aren’t the NA and EU servers pitted against each other? Are they grouped separately so that the prime-times align better? I would think so.

Now let me get this straight.

Full Server vrs Full Server vrs Full Server = Full PPT available

Full Server vrs Full Server vrs Outmanned Server = Less than Full PPT available (at least to full servers)

Full Server vrs Seriously Outmanned Server vrs Seriously Outmanned Server = Not much PPT available (miniscule PPT available to full server)

With all kinds of permutations in the middle, the essence being a low pop server doesn’t have many points to offer a full server.

Three not full but almost equal populations servers would have all PPT available.

And like that.

Makes sense to me. In a nutshell, you don’t get paid for essentially doing nothing.

Just because the server is full, it doesn’t mean the entire server plays WvW… TC is a great example of that

I think the poster meant to say map instead of server. The idea being you score full points when your opponents have the map queued but proportionally less the fewer opponents are on the map. It might put an end to “nightcapping” but I doubt we’ll see anything like that implemented.

Looking at the timeline over the course of a week, BG gets big ppt during a time that for NA players is the wee hours of morning and during the workday. So all the chest-thumping and trash talk about “dominating”, while the bulk of SoR’s players are either sleeping or at work is nothing but pure class on BG’s part. Oops, I forgot the /sarc tag.

As long as SoR remains mainly a NA server, getting people to play during SEA primetime is going to be tough and many thanks go out to those that do.

Oh, wait… apparently a number of people didn’t quite grasp how the new feature worked, so maybe it wasn’t after all)

They ‘dropped the ball’ is a bit harsh. It is a gift btw and one not all of us have yet due to a glitch.

Reminds me of a quote.

“If we could give people a magic hat that would create for them the exact RPG experience they’d always dreamed of, they’d complain about the color of the hat.”
- [Name Redacted]

Actually this applies to most of the QQ going on here.

It’s a ‘gift’ and I shouldn’t complain when, with a little effort, it could have been a much better ‘gift’? After Christmas, why are stores clogged with people returning and exchanging ‘gifts’? Shouldn’t they be happy they got a ‘gift’ at all? Apparently not.

Alternate:

That’s your argument? That having been thrown a bone, I shouldn’t complain that with a little thought, it could have been a tastier bone? That I should be happy that I got a bone at all?

While I greatly enjoy this game and think it’s the best MMO out there, at this time, “fanboi” arguments like this, that assume that the game is perfect in every way really irk me. No game is perfect and ANet should be happy that people care enough about it to complain when things don’t meet their satisfaction. They’re still playing even though they’re not entirely happy with all aspects of the game. Unfortunately, ANet seems to be assuming that people will keep playing this game, no matter what. With promising new games on the horizon, I’m not sure this is a good assumption.

And I certainly WOULD be complaining if the color of my ‘magic hat’ clashed with the rest of my outfit, that’s just the way I roll.

With my current color scheme, a white helmet with red horns would look spectacular. Or maybe a red scheme w/black accents, featuring a red helmet with black horns… Well, we’ll never know what manner of color combinations people could have come up with, will we?

With all the creative possibilities inherent in this design, they really dropped the ball on this.

How dare you expect to be allowed to farm any gold unless you buy your gems!11!1

week after week they nerf every single farm possible (except Cof) and wonder why the playerbase is getting smaller and more and more annoyed with the devs.

All they’re really doing is setting people up for the next good MMO. And it sure looks like one is going to show up later this year. I’m certainly going to give it a shot. While I really enjoy GW2, there have been SO MANY annoyances, both big and small, that I’m probably not alone in being ready to jump ship should a worthwhile alternative appear. ANet is acting like having a good number of unhappy players is no big deal, but I’m just thinking there might be a drastic drop in the player population come “mid to late 2013”.

Rank Chests Extremely Dissapointing

in WvW

Posted by: TobyTucker.5317

TobyTucker.5317

If the purpose of the chests was to induce more people to play WvW, I’d have to say the effort is a big fail. If you do the Frozen Maw event, you get at least one rare in the regular chest plus the guaranteed rare in the bonus chest for a minute or two of less than taxing gameplay. In contrast, gaining 5000 WXP is going to take at least a couple of hours of challenging play, assuming you’re not in a full-server zerg wiping uncontested maps during SEA time. (Who could I be talking about, HaHa!) For your effort you get a very mediocre chest with rares being the very seldom exception rather than the rule.

While getting any chest at all is nice, it’s not likely to induce a rush of new players to WvW. The time played/effort expended vs reward gained ratio is so lopsided in favor of PvE that I can’t see anyone deciding it’s worthwhile to start playing WvW if they aren’t doing so already.

As to those saying, “You shouldn’t complain, you’re getting something extra for doing what you like”, the problem is that the chests were promised to contain ectos in some form or another. But, unless there’s some secret way to convert badges and blueprints into ectos, that claim has been proven false. And when you promise something and fail to deliver on that promise, people tend to get upset.

The problem: When the rush skill is activated my character rushes at the target but instead of attacking, continues to run in place and then just stands there unless the #1 skill auto-attacks.

This bug appears to be terrain dependent. When you’re waiting for the Maw to spawn and you’re idly killing Moa’s on the perfectly flat ice field in that area, there is no problem. But if you’re killing Vet Mosshearts in the lumpy area where the Wurm spawns, it hardly ever works right.

I can’t place exactly when in the last week this started, but it sure is annoying.

In the WvW map that drops to 18 FPS when I’m just standing around. Get into a battle and along with everything but the base landscape disappearing, the FPS drops to 1. Only a guess, but I would estimate only about 25% of what was supposed to be rendering was actually showing up. It’s kind of hard to assault a keep when you can’t see the keep or the people defending it. I have no problem playing the regular game but it’s terribly frustrating, to put it mildly, when I try to play WvW and run into a kittened up mess like this.

Is this a problem on the server side or do I have to get a i7 powered gaming rig with a $500 video card in order to play WvW?

Map Completion and WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TobyTucker.5317

TobyTucker.5317

Question: Why do you need world completion? The only thing it gives you is an item required to craft legendaries…which require you to wvw to get badges of honor, so either way you’d have to wvw. Other than that world completion offers you nothing.

I’m sure that there are a good number of people who look at 100% Map Completion as a worthwhile goal in and of itself. Just because you dismiss it as a goal doesn’t mean others do.

Removing WVW from map completion and PvE monthlys would be ideal, but if not, weekly color rotation would be massively welcome.

Totally agree. I was able to get completion but only due to factors totally out of my control. First, I benefited from a reset and color change. If you’re on a server that fares poorly in WvW, you could wait a LONG time before the same happens to you. Secondly, I happened to be in a zerg that was simply wiping the map of all opposition, which happily took me to the few remaining points I couldn’t get to individually. If this doesn’t happen for you, getting to those few remaining points you’re missing will probably be terribly frustrating.

This illustrates what’s basically wrong with the present setup. Your ability to achieve your goal is not based on your skill but on circumstances beyond your control. This puts some players at a severe disadvantage.

It wouldn’t break my heart at all if they ever decided to separate out the PvP and PvE map completions. They already have separate PvP and PvE dailies, so it makes sense to have two map completion categories: PvP and PvE. Both would be required for legendaries, of course, but if the map completions were separate, players could decide to do them both or just do the one they prefer. That way everyone could have a 100% of their choosing or go out and get both.

I said the same thing on a previous thread, and guess what? I still think it’s a great idea.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TobyTucker.5317

I think it was a mistake to put PvE elements in the WvW maps. If you were to remove all of these, the nodes, vistas, etc, how would it effect WvW play? NOT ONE BIT! You could make a good argument that it would actually improve things as there wouldn’t be any PvE people wandering around, not contributing anything to the main effort while denying a spot to someone who is interested only in WvW.

I like the idea of moving the vistas, etc, to more accessible positions, but I’m not sure how feasible that is. My suggestion is to leave them where they are, but don’t make them required for the map completion achievement. Leave that to completing the regular map, but create a new WvW explorer achievement for those who can actually manage it. This would make the 100% map completion a purely PvE achievement, removing a lot of frustration for those players while giving the ambitious a little bit extra to aim for, if they are so inclined.

Ersasculio has hit the nail on the head. WvWvW is part of the PvE world not the PvP world. Yes you can fight other players there but it is still part of the PvE world.

The game is split in 2 – WvWvW/PvE —- SPvP

This is why it is part of the world map completion achievement.

I have to disagree. You’ve got the split in the wrong place, WvWvW is not part of the PvE world. Sure, it has PvE elements, but nowhere on the regular map of Tyria do other players prevent you from reaching your objectives. I think that is the defining difference between the two.

Besides, this is supposed to be “map completion”, right? Get out your map of Tyria and point out to me where the WvWvW area is, why don’t you? Game. Set. Match.

TobyTucker.5317

1/ WvW is a PVE map with PVP components, or rather, a gank map. As such, completing it is a necessary part of completing PVE.

2/ a group of 5-10 people can easily hunt all vista and POI in off-time. Get yourself a guild or organize something on your server forum. Even if you’re bad in WvW, a modicum of organization trumps all. A 10 man group on teamspeak can crush a 50 man zerg without troubles. If you treat it as a hard dungeon you can complete WvW without fighting a single human.

3/ 100% completion has to be hard, and to some that means vistas, to other it means time and to others it means WvW. We can’t scrap all now can we?

#1: “Necessary” is in the eye of beholder, eh? I, for one, don’t feel that “ganking” has a legitimate place in map completion. Especially if said “ganking” makes it impossible to visit all areas of the map.

#2: You must be on a really weak server to get opponents like that. In my experience, if you’re outnumbered 5-1, you’re going to get wiped, teamspeak or not. Then again, I’m on a top 5 server in the WvWvW rankings, so I guess your mileage could vary. Actually….that’s a pretty good argument against counting WvWvW maps against map completion. If you’re on a server with a weak opponent, it’s possible to get a group together and steamroller your way to areas that a stronger server wouldn’t let you near.

#3: I’m not terribly fond of strawman arguments. NOBODY is saying “scrap it all”. Hard is hard, but hard isn’t supposed to mean impossible.

Will WvW excluded from 100% map complete

Why should wvw be excluded? World exploration reward is used to craft legendaries. You have to fight in wvw to get tokens to craft legendaries. You have to play both sides of the game. Get over it. Want pve only? Great! World exploration isnt just a pve thing. Thats that.

Your argument about legendaries is completely irrelevant. You can collect tokens in WvWvW all day long and NEVER visit all the map. And besides, many people who have no desire to craft legendaries consider 100% map completion a worthy accomplishment in and of itself. The two goals are not as intertwined as you think they are.

“World exploration isnt just a pve thing. Thats that.” I think you’re mistaking opinion for fact, eh? WvWvW, sPvP and Dungeons are special areas that aren’t really on the map of Tyria. Visiting sPvP areas and Dungeon runs aren’t required for map completion, why should WvWvW areas be any different?

This is especially true as your ability to get to certain areas on the WvWvW maps is completely out of your hands. While some points require a group effort on the regular map, they’re not completely impossible, but that’s exactly the case in WvWvW, if you’re on the ‘wrong’ server, no matter how good your ‘group’ is. Server switching and like strategies should not be necessary for map completion. And that’s a fact, Jack!

There must be some other way to do One Time Events. Apparently ANet feels that early afternoon (for NA) is a fine time to go gaming but those that have to work or have other responsibilities would disagree. I’m sure people in other parts of the world found the timing equally awkward.

I don’t know if it’s technically possible, but if you’re going to have a One Time Event, stagger the event roll out among the different groups of servers so that it occurs sometime in the evening in each area. This would make it more accessible and might alleviate some of the problems people were experiencing.

Regarding Drunken Mad King’s suggestion to “move it over”, how exactly do you do that?

In the east coast is going to be 6am on Monday. Even if I decide to get up you know what’s going to be the worst thing? There is going to be an epic lag and won’t really experience the event because everyone will try to be in LA in that moment.

If you are referring to the east coast of the USA, you’ve made a serious miscalculation. The event is going to be at Noon PDT, when means it will be 3 in the afternoon Sunday on the east coast, NOT 6 in the morning Monday.

Toby Tucker, let’s take that idea further Make the common version, well, common. BUT, make it so you can upgrade the common version through the MF with some medium to rare quality materials, maybe common ->rare->exotic.

I think you were referring to NinjaKnights’s suggestion, but I think it’s a good one. Give everybody a neat Halloween item, with the chance of getting a ‘rare’ one. And for those who desire one of the rares, make it possible to craft one. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the approach taken.

Many people go to Las Vegas with their families and friends to gamble; it is fun. Other people can’t control themselves and blame the casinos when they lose their shirt gambling. Play the tables for awhile, enjoy the buffet and take in the experience. Stop being so alarmist.

Surprise, surprise, another “You should have known better” post. The problem for ANet is that people DO “know better” now and are decidedly less likely to spend money in the gem shop. Once again, NOT a good thing.

The main problem here is that people went into this thinking it was a FUN event, not a GAMBLING event.

FUN event – people saying “Look at all the neat stuff I got, I can’t wait until the next big event!”

GAMBLING event disguised as FUN event – people saying “I got ripped off, I’m not spending another penny on this game.”

Which approach benefits ANet in the long term, eh? It doesn’t seem to me that they were taking a long term view here.

I certainly didn’t get the impression that Halloween items were supposed to be ‘rare’ and by setting the drop rates so low, they’ve certainly alienated a number of people, particularly those willing to buy gems. Seeing as this game depends on people buying gems, this can’t be a good thing.

Seeing as I never wasted any precious bank space on those essentially useless tonics, tossed out the XP boosters which are useless to a lvl 80 character and sold the remainder of my BLCs in disgust after spending considerable coin to unlock a good number of them to no good purpose, this announcement just fills me with joy.

For those saying that because only a “minority” of people are complaining, it’s no big deal, I think you’re quite mistaken. I read somewhere that for every person that complains, there are a 100 more who feel the same but weren’t as motivated to express themselves. And let’s not forget “word-of-mouth”. Most gamers know other gamers, and when they feel they’ve been ripped off, they’ll let their friends know. So this “minority” is much larger than you think and a very real problem for ANet.

For those saying “This is a lottery, if you expected to get anything you’re ignorant and or entitled”, you’ve got two things wrong. First, you know going in what the odds are in a lottery. Lotteries are legally required to publish the odds of winning. We certainly don’t see that here. Which ties into my second point. This wasn’t presented as a “lottery” where only a rare few would “win”, it was presented as something EVERYBODY could participate in, not as a “chance” to obtain some super rare item, à la the Mystic Forge.

When I read “…each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”, I (and probably many others) assumed that MOST Chests would have a Halloween item and the “chance” would be as to which item you received. When I saw “chance” and “exclusive” in that sentence, I DIDN’T read it as “1 in a 1000 Chests will contain a Halloween item”, and I don’t think all those people who bought all those keys thought so either.

Usually when you open those Chests you get another key. Not any more. Opened 5 Chests and not a single new key. Imagine that. Just a bunch or worthless tonics and XP boosters. Smartest move I made was to sell all those Chests I’ve accumulated so I wouldn’t even be tempted to open them.

I’ve NEVER been able to upgrade ANY trinket. Seeing as my weapons and armor have runes and sigils, the only upgrade slots I have left are on the trinkets. I keep tying to use the various interesting jewels, Medallions and the like I come across in the game on them but they end up getting sold instead. Kinda sad really. I’ve bought trinkets with jewels in the upgrade slot, but when I try to do it myself, it ALWAYS fails.
