All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2! It pulled me out of MMO retirement and I absolutely love it!
Vagabond Daggers are recruiting on the Yak’s Bend home world. We’re formed and run by a couple of old army vets who’ve also played (and GM’d in) their fair share of mmos.
We’re recruiting adults that play at odd hours and have professional and family obligations, but choose to play GW2 as it was made to be played – thoughtfully, and with variety. We’re involved in all aspects of the game except sPVP. We respect your decision to play the game your way and won’t fill your calendar with mandatory events or even make you go to some website to argue in the forums.
Rules are simple: no drama, and don’t be a jerk. We love to play together, and when we can’t – there’s guild chat. We will never be anything resembling a progression guild but we will tackle dungeons and all the content that ArenaNet can throw at us. We’re small but growing person-by-person into a guild where you will always find someone to group with, but never feel lost in the crowd.
Look us up, send me a PM, or just contact me in game as you can.
DoodooDOOdoodooDOOdooDOOdoodooDOOdoodoodooDOOdoodooDOO – MY DEVONA!
My apologies. I just could not resist this.
Heya Blamm – Vagabond Daggers on Yak’s Bend is a group of mature, casual players from many time zones that play to have fun. No grind, no participation requirements on some guild site or in-game events. No drama, no jerks – just good people looking to explore GW2 with other good people. We’d appreciate your consideration! Look me up in-game, send me a PM here, or just look for a member the next time you log in. Cheers – Turp
Hi Armonia, Vagabond Daggers on Yak’s Bend may be an option for you. We are mature players that enjoy all aspects of the game. Sometimes we group, sometimes we do our own thing, but we’re good people that enjoy playing the game with others. Look us up, send me a PM, or chat me in game if you have an interest. Cheers – Turp
Hey Vortex – sent you a PM. Former Merlin server player here.
Well – if you’re going to start a hobbyist guild, I can’t think of a better one! Good luck to you guys
Thanks Anet – for allowing me to play low-level characters with no lack of mobs to kill because over-leveled characters are farming the area for craft goods.
Sorry Steve, but I think it’s a great solution to a really old problem. And your character has progressed. You should have new talents and abilities available, better gear, and should still be able to easily handle 2-3 mobs if you’re using the appropriate weapons or aspect.
Hi Noodle. Vagabond Daggers on Yak’s Bend may be a good fit. No drama, no jerks. It’s your game so we won’t tell you how and when you need to play. We’re building a solid core of mature like-minded people to explore, craft, level or just hang out with. Hope to see you soon, please look up one of our members in-game. Cheers! Turp
Hey Luspire. Your level, class, when you started, etc. doesn’t matter as long as you’re having a good time with it. We’re happy to figure it all out with you as you go along. I sent you an invite in-game. Please accept and represent if you have no further questions and I hope to see you in the next day or two. Let me know if you have any questions via pm, re-post on this thread, or in-game.
Thanks Luspire – I sent you an invite. We’ll catch up soon!
“The truth is that it is natural, as well as necessary, for every man to be a vagabond occasionally.” – Samuel H. Hammond
We’re the Vagabond Daggers [Dagr]. Formed by Army veterans, we’re wayward soldiers looking for military and military-minded players to pass the time with. We enjoy exploration, WvW, leveling, crafting, guild groups and just hanging out in the guild channel.
The best part of the game is the company you keep – join our ranks if you’d like to share in our camaraderie. No drama, no jerks, and all about having a good time.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!
The question isn’t whether you meet some benchmark that we have. The question is whether or not you think we’re the type of guild you’d like to be a part of.
I formed the Vagabond Daggers primarily to bring together a diverse group of mature adults that enjoy playing together in whatever aspect of the game that suits their tastes, time constraints, or personal situation. This is not a mission-oriented guild that recruits players to meet some goal of the GM. It is not a cult of personality. It is not your second job. It is a guild that serves the needs of it’s members.
We are currently composed US east coasters, west coasters, people in-between, and even a couple of Aussies. We all have odd hours, professional commitments, families, friends and other interests. I’m carefully growing the guild membership up to a point of critical mass – that point where there is always a good chance of finding a guildmate online, but not to the point where you risk becoming lost and nameless in the roster.
Guildmates are people, not slots in a roster. We want to get to know you.
Expectations are simple: no drama, and don’t be a jerk. As a member of the guild I’d prefer for you to give a hello when you log in or at least partake of guild chat. I don’t understand why someone will join a guild and never take part in any aspect of guild life. The social aspect of the game is the unbroken thread that weaves it’s way through every aspect of the tapestry that is our guild. We expect mature participation to whatever degree you can offer, but only when it works for your schedule or goals.
I have run guilds in DAoC and WoW. I turned over guild control in WoW and left the game once we hit the raid game as it became a greed-driven chore. I never instituted the use of DKP, and will never again play a game that requires it.
My style of leadership is what I (somewhat jokingly) call ‘the Velvet Gauntlet’. It is smooth and pleasant and moves with the task at hand (so to speak). It will help others in their labors, lift them up, point to a particular goal, and pat them on the back for a job well done – but when necessary it will come down as a fist. I have no tolerance for anything that disrupts the peace and happiness of the guild. Players join to enjoy themselves with other good people, and my role as a GM is to ensure that members never have to wonder if they are welcome or will have to deal with some situation that makes the game less enjoyable.
We will stand up for you if you stand with us.
So – a cup of coffee later on an early Saturday morning and I’ve written a novella. You are welcome among the Vagabond Daggers (Yak’s Bend). If you’ve made it through this wall of text and think we’re a good fit for the way that play, please look us up. We’re having a ball and I would appreciate your membership.
Hi Zekrom, Vagabond Daggers are on Yak’s Bend server. We’re primarily across the US but have a couple of Aussie members. We are an older crew but ages range across the board (our oldest is some 62-63 years old). We’re still growing, with the ultimate goal of being a 24-7 international guild where you stand a good chance of finding someone online regardless of the time. If you’d like more information please send me a PM here or look me up in-game. If you’d prefer to cut right to the invitation – any of our members can help you there Good luck in any event, mate.
Hi Halidon,
You sound like a good fit for the Vagabond Daggers if you are okay with a US server. The guild was formed by a couple of us that have been around the world and we’re working to build a 24/7 guild of international players. We’re older, run a relaxed guild where the point is to have a good time with other good people. No drama, and don’t be a jerk are the basic tenets. Otherwise play it your way and at your own pace.
Cheers.
So John – is this truly going to be a free market economy or are there checks in balances beyond supply and demand in place to safeguard against monopolization of goods?
Hi Genoa – I just wanted to add that you and your girlfriend can level at an individual pace without fear that one will outlevel the other and not be able to group as well. GW2 will adjust your level down as you go into lower-level zones. You will still have all of your skills, it’s that your level itself will go down. So you will still have to watch out if you are ganged up on. Also if you didn’t know – you are automatically adjusted up to level 80 when entering WvW or sPvP.
And of course, the Vagabond Daggers of Yak’s Bend server are recruiting. Play your way – just no drama and don’t be a jerk. Good luck and best wishes for you two!
Hi DeadCult. Vagabond Daggers on Yak’s Bend is EST-based but we have a couple of Aussies in the fold. We’re still small, but growing daily (selectively) and are ultimately looking to put together a 24-7 guild composed of internationals. We all work odd hours and have real lives to attend to, and we choose to play GW2 with other like minded people in our guild. If interested, send me a PM or look for one of us in-game.
Hey Jonny – welcome to GW2!
You’d be well served to look through this forum and take a look at all of the guilds that are recruiting. Each guild has it’s own personality and focus (or lack thereof). Make sure to find one that suits your situation.
My own guild is for mature, casual players. Still small but recruiting daily. No drama, no jerks. Just a place to log in and be as active as you want with everybody. We’re not big fans of anonymous members who don’t socialize at all, and we don’t do much sPvP. Otherwise we’re doing a bit of everything on the Yak’s Bend server.
Take your time, and find what suits you. Cheers.
So what sets a ‘friendly, helpful’ guild apart when there are 1,000 of them that are all friendly and helpful?
I wish I knew. It would make writing a recruitment post much easier.
Vagabond Daggers was founded by a couple of Army buddies that served together over 20 years ago. I am a former (field) medical sergeant and the other guy is a retired sergeant major that spent most of his career wearing a green beret.
We are looking for other players that are mature, who like to play but hate to grind, that understand that the GW2 journey is where the fun is – not the race to 80. We covet international players. Our aim is to form a multinational 24-7 guild.
We understand that sometimes you want to play on your own, and that sometimes you want help, and other times you want to form a guild group. We know that sometimes you log in just to chat. We appreciate that that cliff was just too tempting not to jump off of just to see if you could land safely in the speck of water below.
We like when you say hello as you log in and we like to greet you in return.
We don’t want a large, unmanageable roster. We aren’t a guild where you can log in and never say anything to your guildmates.
We’re the Vagabond Daggers. Road-weary, ridden hard and often unkempt. We play to have fun and we appreciate doing it with others of our kind. We keep weird hours and have real lives and professional commitments.
Look us up sometime.
Thank you ArenaNet for making me excited about gaming again (consequentially – my wife is very upset with you).
Better guild management tools. Yes.
Hi Strongheart. Vagabond Daggers is a Yak’s Bend guild formed by a couple of old army buddies. We believe that the best part of an MMO is having a good core of good people. We are looking for mature players as we carefully grow the guild into a manageable size.
We appreciate all aspects of the game, we recruit internationally. We all have our own lives and responsibilities, and our only requirements are no drama and don’t be a jerk. We’re striving to be the guild that you want to represent. Look me up or follow me in-game and we can chat a bit if you’d like.
The founders of the Vagabond Daggers ran a successful WoW guild that got too wrapped up in raids and DKP and it sucked the fun right out of it. We’re never going that route again.
We are building a 24-7 guild with players from every time zone. The game should be fun, but not at anyone else’s expense (unless it’s WvW – then make their lives an exercise in misery). We like every aspect of the game for the most part. The guild isn’t fixed on any one aspect – it’s about playing with a group of good people.
No drama, no jerks, and if you don’t want to talk or participate with a guild – why join one? Look us up on Yak’s Bend, or follow me in the character window if nobody is online (still growing and odd hours and all). Cheers!
Any old Fifth SOF’ers out there? You know who you are – the fun bunch that just enjoyed playing for the sake of adventure long before DKP and raids ever came into question in that other game? Those of us that liked it when Greywill stood in the fire?
The founders of the Fifth SOF (Jannet and Smaj) have created the Vagabond Daggers on Yak’s Bend (US – EST). Look us up in the game for an invite, send me (the GM formerly known as Jannet) a PM – or better yet – post a reply here and let us know you’re alive.
GW2 has done away with many of the MMO standards. Why join a guild that is holding on to them? What’s the rationale for joining a guild in the first place?
Grouping? Open grouping for events is instant and enjoyable. Why wait for a guildmate to arrive? By the time they arrive the event may very well be over anyway.
Crafting? Crafting is simple enough, and a single character can master every craft available.
Dungeons and Raids? Arguably the strongest reason, but dungeons are doable with PUGS and without the old spectre of DKP, pre-raid requirements.
Affinity? You love PVE but occasionally want to join a PVP match with your hardcore friends? Why shouldn’t their guild get the benefits of your membership while you’re climbing the tournament ladder? Why should you be locked out of their guild chat?
Answers? All you need to know can be found online or even in a world channel.
Hassle? Do you secretly enjoy being told what colors to wear? Mandatory logins? Forced to join a guild forum? Having your playtime structured for you? Paying money to belong to it?
GW2 is different. It’s time to think of guilds differently.
Vagabond Daggers is created specifically for the social and transient nature of GW2. The Daggers are building a new guild to serve as your core guild – without the baggage of restrictions and requirements that we’ve had to deal with up to now. Join us for the social aspects, for the camaraderie and familiar faces and represent as long as you want to – with no drama when you flip over to represent another guild for whatever reason you want to. We think you’ll like us enough to come back.
Guilds need you more than you need guilds. Representing members earn influence and influence allows a guild to get what? A vault? A meal? Some collecting and crafting bonuses? These are perks of membership but hardly a reason to be a part of any guild. So what’s special about Vagabond Daggers?
You are.
The strongest selling point of any guild is it’s people. We are looking for mature players from everywhere across the world. Our goal is to create a 24-7 no-drama guild where the members have a good time and can play their own game with other people who play for the same reason you play: to have a few laughs, to achieve the impossible, and to blow off some steam in your refuge from real life for a while.
If we pull together, we can make something memorable. Look up any of the Daggers and ask for an invite. We play on the Yak’s Bend server and there are only 2 rules to abide by: no drama, and don’t be a jerk. Mature players welcome – leet kids will be happier elsewhere. And for full disclosure: we are presently 3 members. You make it 4, and 5, and beyond.
Well doggone it – they’re using up all the cool names as well!
Hi Cynister. My pitch for the Vagabond Daggers guild on Yak’s Bend can be found here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Vagabond-Daggers-Dagr-Yak-s-Bend/first#post31071
Send a PM here in the forums or look for me or Smaj online if interested. Good luck in any event
Vagabond Daggers is newly formed by a couple of old (Army buddy) veterans of DAoC, WoW and a pastiche of other games.
We believe a guild is the most important decision you can make in a game. Your guild is your support while playing, and should make the experience better for you as a player. We need others who see the importance of giving a hello and goodbye when you log in and out. We need others that value helping others. And as you get – so should you give. Nobody likes a leech or a selfish crybaby.
Games should be fun – we all have jobs already. There’s no mandatory roll-calls, no login requirements on some website, no mandate to wear guild colors, no proscribed roles or builds that you have to use. it’s a game for crying out loud. Here’s our rules: no drama, and don’t be a jerk.
We play at odd hours and do odd things. Some days it’s all about the WvWvW, other days it’s about watching the animation cycle of an NPC in some out of the way cave. Some days we can’t make it to the computer and others are 12-hour marathons. Sometimes we group and sometimes we prefer to do our own thing.
We attempt the ludicrous. We celebrate both the epic failure and the impossible victory. We’ve taken to the battlegrounds as Avalonian Paladins and have danced as gnomes, butt-nekkid at the gates of Orgrimmar. We play our games for the sake of fun and we would like to expand the ranks to include other mature players who know how to do the same. We would also love to have members from other nations as well! Multinational guilds are just awesome.
We have no website. We’ll probably get a vent server soon just to make commo in WvWvW less of a cluster. We have no desire to maintain a strict order and mandatory check-ins. We don’t care if you are in other guilds, or are the worst player of the stupidest build imaginable (actually – that might be a bonus).
Again, our rules are simple: no drama, and don’t be a jerk.
If interested (and you know you are – in the same way that we all slow down to look at auto accidents) look up Turpenstein or Smaj on the Yak’s Bend server for an invite. We look forward to hearing from you. Or just send me a PM here in the forums.
