Have to agree with the Auralae. Partially feel like I’ve been robbed of things. For example, I’m leader of small WvW guild and we sometimes do PvE events. With the guild halls we are forced to upgrade to war room to be able to claim objectives in WvW. So we are missing on lots of the stuff that was common like +5 supply capacity. Also for a small guild getting the buildings feels just so grindy. I’m sure it’s all fine and mighty when you are part of a bigger PvX or pure PvE guild with 200 members. We only now managed to get workshop but even that was with multiple guild members investing lots of their gold plus hoarders putting their stuff to good use.

So I’d say scale the needed amount of stuff based on the people in roster.

To people saying we should play more or go out of our way to enjoy the features we used to. Try forming a small guild starting from a scratch money and resource vice and building a guild hall. If there are people who are part of a small guild. Less than 20 active members and have had no problems with getting guild hall up and not feeling like grinding I’ll take all my words back.

ps. I recall guild wars 2 being advertised as not grindy game.

The keeps especially are hard if not impossible to scout alone. The spots where the enemy can enter are numerous. So the safest way I guess is to scout only the inner but then it would be too late if you spot them there.

Bay had 3 outer gates and 3 inner gates all spreaded very far away, now it has only 2 gates at inner. There were ton of walls including underwater walls which were hard to scout, now in undercroft you can protect both walls wityh one cart.

Ah don’t get me wrong. I like the new maps. Just basing my points/opinions on the experience I’ve had on the borderlands thus far. ^^

Plus I found defending the former Bay rather easy to scout and defend. Sure it was the easiest keep to attack too. But thanks for the guide.

I actually enjoy the maps but I can see where you are coming from.

1) Indeed the maps are quite big and moving around it is a bit of pain in the kitten . At least if you are at let’s say north camp and you notice that west keep #4everBay is under attack. You most likely won’t make it in time to defend it as there is no waypoint in the keep. Plus the big size of the keep does not help. If you can’t identify where the attackers are at then defending just got ten times harder.

2) Totally agree with this point. The laser beam from the middle event is just ridiculous even though I can understand kinda why it was implemented. If a server is severely outnumbered and they have no objectives they can technically use the middle event to get some foothold on the map. But then again if they are already out numbered by a lot then they won’t most likely get that event done for their server :/

3)The verticality is nice but can be a pain in the kitten if you are roaming. All the fear builds and such as seen from EotM. Not fun except for the guy trolling.

4) I’ve seen some roamers tbh but the big maps make it hard to find the players. Only thing helping is the tracking from sentry’s but that in a way ruins any surprise attack you would have for the enemy blob if you are trying to go defend or trying to sneak attack.

Having, cannons mortars and such ready at the keep is interesting concept but a pain in the kitten . 6) Ain’t nobody got time for K-train tho.

I hope the waypoints would be changed to the way they were before The satisfaction of waypointing enemy garrison was just bueno. Also could the waypoints be moved from the southern towers to the keeps? That way it would make more sense to defend the keeps as you’d be defending your place to fast travel on the map. Considering the size of the map too it would make sense having the waypoint more towards the center of the map.

Joining the voices who say that this isn’t a change we wanted, nor one we deserved. Like I could understand Saturday evening to some extent. But early Saturday is like giving the middle finger to most of the community. I don’t see how you could achieve getting more people to join the good event that was reset if the people who made reset what it is now aren’t there to play.

As it has been stated in multiple posts already, lot of people have other commitments for Saturday, family, household stuff, even work.

So please let us have our Friday evening reset, that was perhaps the best day in WvW week, to just be able to chill with friends and enjoy few beers while killing everything that had red name on top of it.

1st place server attacks your left flank, 3rd place server sees you are fully occupied on left flank, of course 3rd place will attack 2nd place right flank, as they see it as an opportunity to grab something that they might be able to hold without becoming the focus of the 1st place server.
This is just simple logic. There is no alliance between SFR and any other server, it’s just that the sensible thing for the 3rd place server is to grab what it can while the 2nd place is being focused by the 1st.
Personally, if it’s choice between attacking anyone (except Viz) and Deso, I’ll always go for attacking Deso as it’s just more fun:-)

Thats what you’d think normally right? One server attacks the others, lets say longview, so defender goes there. Then the the other offensive bl servers best plan would be to go for the defenders other upper tower or garrison. That would be logical right?

But what I’ve seen, not always but few times while being on SFR bl, we decide to focus SFR as it would be the logical thing to do while being 2nd. So according to the logic said before. It would only be logical for JS to go for SFR too. But what happens they go for our tower. Meh, maybe it’s the 3rd goes for 2nd or something.

Not saying it’s a bad thing to do or wrong thing to do just makes the game more interesting when it’s not the same boring kitten day after day. Today’s “hard” focus was a nice surprise tbh. Moar fights and kittens. Been having the most fun during the league while we’ve been against SFR. And I thank you for that.

I feel bit ashamed for all the deso people coming to QQ about double teaming since there really is none just hard focus or slack days. It’s all for the lols after all.

Supporting an Allie guild or commander is not hand holding (in my definition anyway).

I can agree on that one but i still respect guild versus another guild clashing together on open field. And i was part of that EXG group we were roughly 15-20 and three allies i think

have it your way. we all blob and run around super glued to each other in a gigantic mega blob with 99 warriors 99 guardians ,1 ele, 1 necro and 1 mes. when we engage the other server’s mega blob (same composition) half the people on both sides crash out of the game then its just up to the people with a “tolerable” slideshow experience to spam 1 to victory with the occasional water field/necro well/veil etc.. to break the monotony.

Dude, don’t get me wrong. I enjoy the challenge bigger sized enemy brings. And of course it’s not just blobbing but we’ve had some tough luck I guess while runnin our guild events. Gandara has some nice guilds I agree who run alone but my last memory is from sunday at outer bay when Yarr, Coin + some other guild came at us pretty much at the same time and it’s cool since can’t always go at the enemy taking turns and hand holding happens every once in a while. But like I said I don’t mind since it brings more challenge. :P

AR on the other hand. Only CoN pretty much this far has come at us pretty much alone while BLAK always with the zone blob. All those condis god kitten . The meta is just too wack at the moment.

But again more challenge is more fun to me, so bring it on

I hope for next season the achievements are more inline with things that will help the server. Like more defending achievements or something. If achievements have to be implemented for the season they could at least help.

Got really annoyed when there were swarms of large groups in the BL ruin cap points getting the achievement at the start of the season. Especially since before that the ruin cap points were the perfect place to find small scale fights, 1v1 and 1vXs.

I feel you :I it was pain in the kitten to see us losing the whole border just to find most of the guys kittening in ruins.

I’d like to thank and congratulate all the silver league servers for the fun season even tho not everyone feels the same.

I think no one on Deso believed that we could win the silver league until the beginning of the first week. Seeing the queues was like early Christmas and at the same time it was pain in the kitten since no one could actually play. Not to mention the lack of organisation that is still bit of a problem. After winning the first week I was pretty sure we could win this, if we could make the players who came from PvE stay in WvW. And to our enjoyment and disappointment they did. But I think most of us were glad they did stay. We’ve seen new commanders rise from the ranks of our players and special thanks to Monsieur Grotesque for organizing commander training events. And organizing Deso’s community. Thanks to Ins and Rox for the fun 24 hour paintrains. The sleep is for the weak or something like that. Was fun to claim enemy’s bl to us and build waypoints in all the keeps. Mad respect for our night crew, one of the reasons this was possible!

Grats Gandara on your second place. You were fun opponents with your guilds and I have nothing but respect to you guys.

And the seasons surprise third place. Aurora Glade, I think no one saw that one coming. Loads of respect for your server and to your guilds.

Ah, you are partially right but at the same time wrong. The idea is correct but the placements aren’t.

Since if we share the first place with you there won’t be second place. Only third place.
If Abbadon happens to win this matchup which is still quite likely. Gandara, Abbadon and AG will end up on second place and there won’t be third nor fourth place. Deso will be first no matter what happens. Only thing left to decide is which places other servers want.

These are of course my views based on MoS website where they’ve placed the positions so that if one place is shared then the next one below is skipped. So I could be wrong

This seems to be confusing you, so I’ll elaborate: tanking doesn’t mean every single person on a server decides to tank.

As already has been posted, the server meetings for Deso suggested that they drop out of Gold League to avoid having to face Vizunah during Season One (something I’ve already said I can totally understand; nobody wants to face that server, just as I imagine Underworld and Fort Ranik have no particular wish to face Gandara or Desolation).

A co-ordinated ‘effort’ by major WvW guilds to take it easy during the pre-Season will lower your rating, while a co-ordinated effort by major WvW guilds to play as hard as possible will raise it.

You still haven’t proven anything. Can you prove that such a meeting took place? Anyone can claim anything in this thread doesn’t make anything facts til it has been proven.

I was actually planning on staying away from this topic, but its getting cold outside so why not poke the flames a bit more?

Is Desolation still the Gold league tier server you used to be? No, and there is no reason to not believe you lost some of your core WvW guilds and players, but I don’t think that is the main point people are discussing here. The main issue people have is the idea that you deliberately lost more points than you would’ve lost naturally just to get into silver league where you would have an easy time. Well we already know you tanked. Several people have “admitted” that you wanted to get into silver league (probably with different motives though). Now the fact that it is followed up with comments about it happening more or less on its own anyway is irrelevant, since there was an actual decision being made. And why would you want to wait with trying to salvage your WvW community until you hit silver league and not at the point in time where this mass-exodus happened? Do you really want to build your community on fair-weather players?

Now I know most Desolation players will claim that they weren’t expecting to win silver and it just kinda happened in the end, but I always found it interesting that you lost the exact amount of strength that put you in the gap between being destroyed in gold league and dominating silver league. And i know, you have a large PvE population, but there are plenty of servers with a high PvE population so I don’t buy that being the sole reason you turned it around.
I was actually looking a bit on the matchup history on MOS and in the last matchup before the start of the season Desolation actually faced of against us (Gandara) and UW:

Gandara was actually winning that matchup up until around Tuesday, where something happened to the Desolation nightcrew. This was three days before the start of the season so it couldn’t really be the influx of PvE players that did it? Now I’m sure plenty of Desolation players can give me an explanation for that, but you have to admit it does look a bit suspicious how it coincides with the point in time where Desolation could no longer regain enough rank to get back into gold does it not?

In the end though I guess we will have to wait until the end of season one to get a feel for the real strength of (the new) Desolation and who knows maybe we will meet again in season two, be it in gold, silver or bronze

Personally I don’t care as I’m enjoying fights (except for tagged up guild+pug blobs, which is every guild in deso nowadays I assume) and loving the spirit of Deso even after losing major WvW guilds, but you guys made a name for yourselves negatively. You tanked not because you don’t belong in the Gold league, but for the fact that you won’t win it. (Hey Kodash and Augury, and yeah, you, Riverside ! It’s a great tactic !) I’d like to correct that, even tho some people believe what they want to. We “tanked” if that’s what you want to call it, because we weren’t gold league material. I think none of us thought that we would actually win silver league when we dropped. At least I didn’t. The huge influx of PvE players was expected but not in this scale nor that they would actually stay. I’ve been enjoying all the fights at prime time the guilds in silver have provided.

We didn’t belong at the Gold league, but now we do that much I can agree on.

Why do I think you tanked? well let me answer that for you.

Your server made several guilds go away (a person from your server told everyone in a thread a little while ago) in order to get into silver league, then they were told to return once the season was over. However, one of the problems was that your server didn’t count on the sheer awesomeness that is Gandalf.

My theory:

Tankolation is a gold league server, but it is a silver league server (in terms of strength at the moment) that has gotten people to leave and has convinced so many forum warriors to deny all of this on these forums; whilst claiming themselves to be victims. Using these methods Tankolation planned to be a slightly better than the rest “silver league server” therefore making the tanking look like it was natural.

Once the league was over and all of the Tankolation forum warriors had gained their pretty dolyak related prizes and the guilds had returned, Tankolation would return to gold league where they would once again claim to be the victims of the “Vizunah zombies”.

This is why I am supporting Gandalf and not Tankolation, because Gandalf deserves to win silver league.

None of the guilds were told to leave. Only one of the guilds that left came back and that was one of the minor guilds we have here.

Spend all of last night upgrading FSP garri, it had WP and was almost finished being fortified when i had to leave, with tons of siege inside to be able to defend it. Wake up in the morning, it’s deso green…

I just wonder why i’m even trying to upgrade stuff anymore. No offense but if you can nightcap a keep that should be defendable with about 10 people or less, unless there are 40+ enemy peeps at night, you shouldn’t be in silver…

Well, there certainly was more than 10FSP awake at the time. Buut they were in deso bl trying to cap our keeps. And I’m pretty sure there was more than 40 of us ^^ and loads of omega golems. The gates just melted.

AG gave TLA the best fights in this league imo Hopefully some more in the future even tho some of you might not like deso

The Best Thing™ about this matchup is that it started like a junior school brawl and ended up like high school comradery.

The fights kept getting better towards the end so it’s a shame this had to end so soon. Too bad that anet only counts PPT as winning. you are clearly weaker at prime time only and some parts of the day; during the night and the morning, you zerg us into oblivion, that’s why you should be in gold league.

I hope you realize that in Gold league the opponents run the same karma train in the mornings. But they have better organisation and even more people than us. So we’d just get roflstomped in there. In prime and off hours

I’m not enjoying this either. Mornings used to be fun but when we are ticking over 600 I just say meh and go play something else. But the thing that somebody above me said that even Fort Ranik had better morning/night force is true. I’m not trying to be offensive I’m just stating the facts here. I’m not even proud that we tick that much. It sucks tbh because there’s nothing to do in the mornings. So in this matchup ive saved the playing till prime time when there’s actually good fights going on even tho Deso is ticking 145 at times. I just want good fights man. And yesterday we got them while running as TLA. It was awesome even tho we lost almost all of the encounters. I’m sorry if someone took anything stated above offensively. No harm intended.

Well I can tell you good sir that TLA rarely Blob ups. At least when I’m commanding.

And wouldn’t it be only natural to tag up if there isn’t one on the map?

As for GoD they always run tagged up and they dislike pugs very much. Which makes no sense since the blue dorito is pug magnet. But it makes easier for other groups in map to know where they are at.

And the former strength of Deso has been replaced with people who have no idea what toughness is or what means to have ram mastery.

Aanyways don’t blame us for playing the game as Anet has intended. I’d love more fights equal fights if possible but no chance with the ques. We are lucky if we can stack 20 persons from one guild in one borderland.

And what comes to Saturday prime time. As far as I know none of the main guilds run events on Saturday prime. (Don’t know about GoD) So that usually explains the bad tick. Either no guilds or only one guild and too many PvEers.

Does it really matter? Coverage = Win. With the AP as well on offer, This point isn’t really valid. I mean even AG have felt the hit of the PvE population, increasing Q times at prime time from 10-15 mins and even an empty border to 1-2hours queue all around at prime.

ah but the situation was bit different here. Even before we started dropping in ranks we had no ques outside primetime. But when the league started the first week we had ques almost 18hours a day. The prime time ques… just awfull. So it does matter if the PvE guys do what they want and die on first impact. We’ve had a situation where there’s one hour queue but only 10 guys around the commander. The rest were kittening in ruins or doing jp or other kitten like that. But the PvEers have their good sides too. Lately it’s been a bit better than the first week so they’ve been improving.

Anyways have a great MU and thnx for TUP and VcY for some fun fights at least from my part. Commanding drunken finnish train ain’t easy And omg that UW blob.

I wouldn’t say that. There’s still five weeks left and there’s still 25 points left to give away. Personally I think Abbadon will be really close when there’s one or two weeks left. It remains to see how long Desolation’s PvE players stay in WvW. Personally I think they have been great add to our WvW crew even tho they tend to “do their own thing” most of the time.

Blobs are annoying when you want a fight, but it’s part of the system. And it’s not that much of a problem when you see a blob like Desolation has a hard time splitting to defend 2 points at a time. (though, it still hurts like hell when you are at the tower they chose to defend… :’| )

I’ve got a question for the Millers who played on FR borderland those last 2 evenings (genuine, no troll or provocation intended) :
You (Miller) and us (FR) have been trying to reset this kitten ed full upgraded T3 Desolation Bay for 2 evenings now.
Sometimes we even managed to break through the 2nd gate and somehow see the lord (sort of… need some imagination to see though the Desolation mass). And then you came. No disapprobation here, we happily did the same to try to snatch up the keep under your nose when you opened the door.

But… why did you focus FR in Bay every time you got the opportunity? There is plenty of space in Bay, and more than a way to get to the Lord. We (Miller and FR) had dozens of golden chances to reset this keep, but every time I saw Miller run to FR position and we just ended killing each other while Desolation eat popcorn on the walls and enjoyed the show… I don’t like helping Desolation keep Bay, or see them eating pop corn.

Why couldn’t we just prioritize, kick Desolation out and then resume to happily slaughter each other ?
I won’t say we would not try to get Bay ninja style during the fights (<3)… but even if we (FR) got it, it would be a wooden T0 we suck at defending that you can break into in 5 minutes … top… without siege weapons… and disguised as pink quaggans.

Plus, it would annoy Desolation. Master win.

I don’t give a kitten if they ran with 80 man zerg. If they want to play like that then so be it. You don’t have to run right into the blob so you won’t get blobbed. And it might be they ran together only during the bay fight which is quite understandable because if i’m not completely wrong bay was t3 with waypoint that day so it would only be wise to hit that kind of target with bigger force.
