(snip) doing some increadible hard jumps that require sometimes even to “dodge jump” just to be able to jump far enough.
A Move, that even doesn’t officially exist in the game that can be used by just 1 button press, but that is more kind of a positive not harmful movement glitch that seems to be tolerated by you Anet by pressing Tab and V together to jump and dodge at the same time (a thing what would make certain Trib Spots surely impossible to do, like W1Z1 with those lots of Whump Stones as they have a way too big shockwave effect that can catch you even mid air off, which can be only avoided by dodge jumps that are also always a risk to use, because they never execute 100%ly.

Often you fail those jumps, because the character makes only a normal jump or doesn’t jump but dodges only, as you have to press both buttons really at the same time.
Just 1 button pressed a millisecond too early and you don’t execute a perfect needed dodge jump, cause its a move, that doesn’t officially exist in the game.

As Josh stated earlier in this thread, dodge jump is never required, even in TM. I recognize it is really usefull to make some jumps easier though. And FYI, you should dodge after jumping to execute a proper dodge jump. The timing is extremely narrow but can be mastered with practise.

[freeing up queue slots in the process], or they’ll actively participate in the WvW meta as was originally designed.

I think the point is to force the zerg to split and manage the central buffs;

Issue is, with maps not getting enlarged and all 5 points being clumped so close each other in the “lake area”, i don’t think zergs will split up at all.

Blobbing should be vunerable to split groups who can ninja cap structures while the zerg is away, but currently 2 players sitting on ACs can easily defend agaisnt such small groups. The siege resistance/siege effectiveness buffs would allow such ninja caps. If the zerg choses to ignore the buffs, it will be punished by those small buffed groups, effectively promoting map-wide (and server-wide during offpeaks) strategy/tactics AND rewarding player/guild skill.

In w1z1 after the 1st checkpoint, at the first lava pool, you can actually fall on one of those ledge and make it back up on solid floor… I even thought it was the intended way to go until I was shown the “correct” (and much easier) path ^^

I’ve tried discovering and creating a exotic helm item in the hopes it would break out of 400 and show the true max to be now 500.. but nothing happened.

From that statement I understand you are speaking about armorsmith, which has not been promoted to 500 right now. Only weapon-crafting disciplines (weaponsmith, artificer and hunter) currently have access to lvl 500 and ascended crafting

My experience so far:
- Completed World2 zone1. The part with the geyser where you end up jumping through the waterfall is the only one that really bugged me. I think the rapids are too punishing for fail jumps as you can end up behind the last checkpoint. It is also really annoying to see yourself getting up just to be thrown back again by the water without being able to do anything. This may improve with time as it will reduce the lagg (as Josh stated in this thread).
- Stuck in World2 zone2 where the starving squid wouldnt grow bigger than some point, even with a bazillion of fish. I’ll give it another try soon but this needs to be fixed
-Wasted like 40 lives in World1 zone1 tribulation mode (almost reached the 3rd checkpoint but I had to get some sleep^^). This thing is so ridiculously hard its extremely fun… like: “this way seems saf.. WTF THE FLOOR IS LAVA????” The tricks are so cheap (explosive flowers, really?) it makes them enjoyable.. I even forgot to rage!

Thanks for the awesome work!

Bug? Wolrd2 Zone2 squid stuck

Yamiga.7863

When you have to feed the squid with pirahnas so it will grow and lower the balance, it got stuck and wouldnt grow further/get the balance lower.
The balance was at the last position before we could access the checkpoint.
The squid was still accepting pirahnas, but without any effect. We gave him more than 20 fish while in this last position.

Did anyone experienced the same bug? Or am I missing something?

Your problem is more likely tied to your hardware, than your OS. Mac usually have rather bad graphic cards (especially laptops), the pc with which you experienced better graphics probably had a better one.
I cant be sure since I never tested the Mac beta myself, and thus cant compare its performances to the pc one, but I dont think using Bootcamp will solve/improve anything

Sylvari and the forest dragon

Influencing the Dream of Dreams would seem like the only way to corrupt the incorruptible Sylvari. So maybe that is Mordremoth’s thing: Nature and dreams.

Or could it be that Modremoth is still asleep, and dreaming?
If I am not mistaken, we dont even know if Modremoth has awaken yet, but even in hibernation he probably can influence the world around him, as Primordius did in Eye of the North with the Great Destroyer.
Nature being Modremoth’s “domain”, it would make sense that he’s likely to interact with plants, hence Sylvaris and the Pale tree. The dragon shape of the nightmare in the first sylvari personnal story could imo be the “physical” aspect of Modremoth’s half-sleeping will (or passive corruption) trying to invade and corrupt the DoD.
I would not consider the Nightmare Court as dragon minions, but merely half-corrupted beings, like some of the Sons of Svanir that are beetween Norns and Icebrood, this half-corrupted state being a consequence of the Sylvari not being fleshy creatures or of the ED having a weak influence, and thus less able to corrupt anything that is not plant related.
Having almost embraced Zhaitan’s corruption, Faolain would just have fallen to a corruption more suited for her kind…

I’m not pretty sure… But I’m almost sure that the level cap og agent of entropy and dungeon hobby isn’t there since the start of the game.

Its one thing of a 5 months ago if I remember well.. So, people that made it before, don’t had the lv cap of 250 ap for agent of entropy and Dungeon farm…

The cap was realeased shortly before the leaderboards. People that farmed Agent of entropy and Dungeon explorer had their AP adjusted to the cap at that time.

Best achievment point earners?

Yamiga.7863

Best and fast are not exactly the same actually. Fastest would be to grind the easiest ones: as said above general pve especially explorer and hero, with a bit of PvP (earlier tiers are rather easy). But this way you will end up with only the hardest (longest actually) to be done. The best way for long-term AP gain is, imo, to progress in the longest ones while you do the easiest (weapon master for example).
In any case: do all the daily/monthly/living story achievements

Achievement system is great but!

PvP already gives a bunch of AP, at least at start (higher levels are pretty tough to get), but I agree more achievements wouldnt hurt. Anet just confirmed they were looking into it in this thread
WvW achievements really deserve a rework considering the time needed/ points granted. Adding more tiers could be a first fix

Necro warrior and guardian were easy due to good survivabilty + aoe. I found thief, ele and mesmer quite difficult at the time, but I now know I could have done way better on my mesmser (which has become my main).
I think people have a hard time with mesmers because they stick to GS, which is not that good for solo play since it has no decent aoe and the #1 at close range is meh. I still do agree that they’re very trait-dependant, which makes early lvls really hard

Mai Trin speaks of a Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Yamiga.7863

Yamiga.7863

I suspect Scarlet is the personal nemesis. The actions of the Aetherblades and Inquest alliance sounds a bit too similar to the Molten Alliance’s development. Some figure in the background, not part of the group (as the name is definitely not asuran – sounds sylvari or human to me), gets two groups to join together.

My full thoughts on the matter, simply quoting myself from another thread:

If Scarlet is the personal nemesis, then there’s the Molten Alliance’s actions to be considered in Mai’s own actions. Scarlet would have made two powerful alliances in order to strike at the heart of norn, Iron Legion, and Lion’s Arch livelihoods. But more importantly, both groups have been advancing magitech to high degrees. Molten Alliance produced the Fused weapons, that jetpack, and so forth, as well as (most importantly IMO) the Azurite (gems that are highly magically conductive). The Aetherblades have the steampunk designs but with those incredibly deadly lasers, advanced golems (they used the “brand new” golem models from the personal story, and they seem to have gotten a good boost thanks to Frizz), and there were those dancing holograms among other things (leaping pads, for example).

It’s all seems to be boiling down to “what groups when put together can make a lot of improvements on pre-existing technology?” And then pitting them together with some sort of goal in mind. The Aetherblade/Inquest alliance goal? Likely for the Inquest to get a hold of the Captain’s Council like they do the Arcane Council – through Mai.

But what would Scarlet’s goals be? I presume she saw what the Pact accomplished, and is using underhanded means of getting some sort of technology to rival the Pact’s own. Combining Dredge and Flame Legion; Aetherblade and Inquest… who to be next, I wonder?

I like the idea of a single person setting up both molten alliance attacks on norns/charr and Aetherblade/Inquest attacks on Lions Arch, and it makes me wonder if the new pollution in Rata Sum (that came with the July 9th update) could also be related to this?

The Arcane Council has outlawed swimming in the waters beneath Rata Sum after reports of pollution by non-asuran races. Trespassers will be jailed!

At first I thought that was made to close an exploit/bug with a lore explanation, but why do they precise “by non-asuran races”? Asuran have proven to be very capable when it comes to pollution, with their numerous failed experiment. I think this may be the premices of an attack on Rata Sum, coordinated by the nemesis, who will take place in a future living story release. I am still reserved though since among the various ennemy factions the ones using industrial weapons and thus susceptible of emitting pollution (dredges and Inquest) have already been used in previous living story releases.

There is already a pve/pvp split for some skills (only different numbers if I remember correctly). PvE balance still has issues like mions/pet AI or underpowered condi builds, but they’re going in the right direction imho. For example, the changes to necromancer last patch were pretty good pve-wise.
The living story (which actually do not contain any WvW/pvp part) is going to be the main way for Anet to add PvE content, both temporary and permanent, and if you look at the last releases (Dragon Bash ans AetherBlades) it seems really solid.

I really dont understand why there is so much QQ about portals… Yes, they allow people to skip most of the JPs, but how is that an issue? The rewards are mostly crap anyways…
Playing myself a mesmer I use my portal as a checkpoint in JPs so I can go back faster in case I fall (providing I dont die). I dont really care if people use my portal to skip content they find too hard / they’re too lazy to achieve themselves: I am doing those JP for fun and the satifaction of doing it, not for any reward (besides maybe the achivement but JPs are permanent content so it doesnt matters). I often use my portal to help guildies/randoms that have a hard time in a paticular part but I myself refuse to take portals that get me further than where I went myself
And about portals in WvW being a “free way to take keeps and towers”, you really should try to hide in one of these keeps/tower and see how long you survive playing hide and seek with a bazilion of angry ennemy players (I myself find it extremelly fun). If you lose objectives because of mesmers you’re not searching enough.

Its clear you are a pvp/www player accustomed to a balanced fight so when you think to put a bad AI in that balanced fight it seems all easy.

I spend more than 50% of my game time in pve, most of it playing my mesmer in whatever can be done in pve including open world, dungeons and fractals. As I said before, most of the pve damage is imo predictable because pve attacks from mobs are generally slow with an obvious animation. Of course there are exceptions and larger groups makes proper damage mitigating difficult, but its still possible
AND that nerf to mesmer survivability is only 2s more cooldown on BF+ vulnerability to retailation. Really not a big deal

Mesmer survavibility was insane due to Blured Frenzy + distortion + staff#2 + perma vigor from duelling trait. BF was especially op and deserved that cooldown nerf. I am more concerned with the 1s cooldown for Into the void in PvE. A PvE/PVP split or a shorter cooldown (0.5s) could be nice

are you saying mesmer survivability in pvE was OP?
i hope not…..

Yes, that’s more or less what I said. Mesmer have plenty ways of ignoring damage, and can melee almost everything in pve.

you are trolling then….

Definitely trolling. My memser can barely survive as is. :/

I am wondering who is trolling who… for a light armor prof focused on damage mesmers have rather good survavibility, including in pve since they rely heavily on dodges/on-timing invulnerability and pve damage is often easily predictable. When it comes to tank damage I agree they are probably the worst prof in the game with thief, but when it comes to avoid damage they’re one of the bests.

Meh, the 1s thing is going to take some getting used to.

I think they did it mainly to hinder speedrunners a tiny little bit, but I don’t think that it will be a big deal in the end.

I think the purpose of the change is to make the skill dodgeable in pvp: you could grab people out of the cap points with no visual effect appart from the character animation. I am concerned for the pve aspect because i used it to interrupt ennemies, which cant really be done with the increased cast time

Claiming guild rush reward not working

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Yamiga.7863

I had this issue with the quaggan underwater guild rush in Frostgorge sound the other day. When my guild (lets name it [V]) arrived at the start, another guild [X] just launched the rush. We did the rush anyways, knowing we could claim the reward afterwards (as long as someone from our guild completes the rush). At the end of the timer, we had the pop-up dialogue asking if our guild wanted to accept the reward, and clicked “yes”.
Then guild [Y] showed up and launched the rush during the small delay (around 30s) beetwen the end of the rush and its actual validation (with the chat message saying the guild successfully completed the guild mission).
The rush was not validated for the guild and we didnt get the guild merits. The rush was still available in the mission tab with 5 hours remaining.
I first thought that someone chose to not accept the rewards, so I stayed there when the others went to others missions, completed the rush once again, and chose “I accept the reward” at the end of the timer. I am sure I was the only one from my guild in the area, so noone could have refused the reward.
Then guild [Z] showed up and launched the rush during small delay (around 30s) beetwen the end of the rush and its actual validation…
Once again the rush wasnt validated for our guild. I came back at the end of that 3rd rush but failed at completing it and couldnt claim the reward. The rush was still active in our guild tab with 4 hours remaining.

Not that we really needed the guild merits (hitted 250 that evening with puzzle and challenge) but it is still very frustating, especially if you are in the process of unlocking the missions

I am currently working with the map API (which is great btw), trying to display a map with the differents points of interest from maps_floor.json . I currently stick to continent=1 & fllor=1, but I noticed what I believe to be some inconsistencies/bugs

  • Mt Maelstrom and Sparkfly Fen are contained in region 8 “Steamspur Mountains” although they should imho be in region 5 “Tarnished Coast” with other maguuma maps
  • Shouldnt the region “Tarnished Coast” be named “Maguuma Jungle” to be consistent with the ingame names?
  • Haratis Hinterland, Bloodtide Coast and Blazeridge Steppes contain no landmarks, except for the ones of instancied areas (nothing if region 8 is skipped)
