Sadly though, Kasmeer didn’t recognise me when I ran into her at the Dead End.
You’re clearly not cynical enough, OP.
RNG will come in the form of those sweet new Aetherblade skins only available from a chest at the end of the story dungeon. We shall have people who run the dungeon hundreds of times and never get a skin, and that annoying player who dies constantly, cusses out everybody on the team, gets carried all the way through, and gets a skin on his very first trip.
Super Adventure Box was based in Rata Sum.
But I get what the OP is saying. It does feel like Lion’s Arch is basically where everything happens. Halloween and Wintersday all took place there too, with the other cities only getting minor touch-ups.
Well, I was on Southsun for a Guild Mission just yesterday. After we completed the Rush, we noticed that 3/4 settlements were captured, so we figured, “Hey, let’s see if we can pop the Queen.” About 10 minutes later, Queen was up, I let out a holler in Map and Guild chat to let people know, and 4 minutes later there was about 40 – 50 people (enough to trigger culling, at least) smashing the Queen into crab jelly.
So it is still being done, at least on busier servers like Tarnished Coast. I do agree that the frequency of the attacks on the settlements is a bit high though. I think after each settlement is pacified, it should stay safe for at least 15 – 20 mins. Right now it feels like as soon as the Queen is dead, we look at the map and all the settlements are contested again. That ain’t right!
This bug occurs all the time in Tarnished Coast too. Usually that Captain is standing all by himself (and occasionally dead) in the middle of Foulbear Kraal too. Without their human allies, the small numbers of Charr forces (if they get in the Kraal at all) seem too timid to continue and just stand around swinging their tails. :P
I think ANet needs to break up this meta-event further and have two more events where each side gets a foothold inside the Kraal, with both meeting up in the same location. Once they’re both there, you can then trigger the next event to assault the heart of the Kraal.
Currently it seems to be breaking because one or the other side is not making it to the rendezvous point with their troops and the event can’t continue because it’s waiting for these troops to arrive (who are dead and thus can’t trigger the next event).
All of the above are fake.

The filter is there for people who don’t want to see any foul language at all (and as some people above mentioned, trolls usually find a way to get around it anyway). Others have no problem with seeing foul language, but do take exception to being insulted or abused. Again, the filter is NOT an excuse to be rude or abusive. If you are banned for “language”, odds are good it’s because you were abusing someone, not because of the language itself.
Not confirmed, but Colin did say that they like the idea of adding Living Story dungeons to Fractals and were looking into it as a possibility.
Yes, and he also said that exclusive Living Story rewards would stay limited-time only.
True. But Lost Shores was part of the Living Story too, and yet the Southsun weapon skins made a comeback. Perhaps the exact same rewards won’t be available in the Fractals version, but never say never when it comes to exclusive skins returning sometime down the line.
In any event, I don’t think what Colin said really applies to things like the Sentinel insignia/Azurite, considering those are used to craft rather generic items that look no different to normal gear. I fully expect Sentinel gear and Azurite to make a return (possibly even a permanent return) in the future.
There was that unexpected bug a short while back where Rares were not giving back as many Ectos as they should. ANet does make mistakes, so it’s good to keep an open mind about these complaints. However, that time they had concrete data (a sudden and unexpected drop in Ecto supply) to back it up. So far the data on GW2Spidy doesn’t back up a case for a return of the bug.
I’d like them to slow down too, but not for the reasons the OP mentioned. Rather, it feels like I’m spending so much time doing the Living Story content that I barely have time to get my characters through the normal content! :P
I preferred the slower, more relaxed pace of the early Flame & Frost months, where you could complete the Living Story content in a single weekend, and then get back to your normal gaming for the rest of the month. Special events, like Halloween, Wintersday and Dragon Bash, should be the exception, not the norm.
Are you the first person to attack the boss? From personal experience, enemies ALWAYS attack the first person to attack them above all preferences. (For this reason, I never attack a Champion/Legendary first if at all possible.) This preference sticks to you even after you’ve been downed, although I’m not sure if death resets it.
There’s an interesting discussion over in the Lore thread about Pirates and their role in Lion’s Arch you should read.
Personally, I think that most of the “pirates” we see in Lion’s Arch, like the Captain’s Council, aren’t really pirates at all. Rather, they were more like privateers, “pirates” who were authorised by a government to go out and raid the merchant shipping of their rivals as a kind of covert warfare. Some of these privateers could be fairly honorable, would offer surrender first, took captives instead of just making everyone walk the plank etc. Perhaps the Captain’s Council and most “settled” pirates belong to this category. The truly irredeemable bunch, like the Jackdaws, the Covingtons etc. committed acts that repulse even the Council (and indeed, we often see the Lionguard duking it out with pirates in the open world), but as Lion’s Arch is a neutral city, individual members are still welcome in the city so long as they obey the city’s laws while within the city limits.
Discussions about money and RNG supporting and “real life success”notwithstanding, I just want to say thank you to Geotherma, because having someone who is willing to sink that much real money into the process gives us a unique perspective into how much it would take to get what you want with real money in GW2.
I really appreciate your efforts from a data collection point of view.
Not confirmed, but Colin did say that they like the idea of adding Living Story dungeons to Fractals and were looking into it as a possibility.
If you own all of the super greatsword skins, you can get away with selling them for 1000g each, because no one can undercut you. that is the power of a monopoly.
While this is true, it’s also worthwhile considering that ANet has the power to break monopolies at any time just by making something available again. (As they did for the Southsun Lost Shore skins.) I suspect that if John Smith learned that monopolies were actively taking shape and pricing something, even a luxury item, beyond the range of what the designers deemed as their “original vision”, they would take steps to intervene. This isn’t EVE Online; I don’t think it would be in ANet’s best interests for the player base to realise that certain players are cornering the market and then gouging other players for all they’re worth, because that would be undermine trust in the trading system.
Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who saw the horn and immediately thought “vuvuzela”. XD That said, I think the benefits of the horn outweigh the negatives. Sure, we have trolls spamming it now, but the same people did the same thing with the Choir Bells back in Wintersday, and how often do you see them now? The novelty will wear off within a few weeks.
While I agree with you in general that it would be nice to have a narrower range of herbs or plants, you usually don’t need anywhere near the same amount of ingredients that you do for things like cloth, wood or metal. By the time I’ve finished completing a map with all 5 of my alts, I have more than enough ingredients to do whatever cooking I might need for the foreseeable future.
It’s strange, but I thought the most fun thing about the event was the Moa Races. Just chasing them around the track, yelling encouragements at my chosen moa while others were doing the same, was surprisingly entertaining.
I suppose I also can’t complain about the large sums of gold I made selling my Dragon Coffers.
I thought the Film Noir style of Marjory’s introduction was excellent.
Very fun to watch.
Also, I can’t be the only one thinking Logan should dump Jennah and get with Marjory/Kasmeer now, right? Right??
The Rapier would go well on my dainty Human Female mesmer.
Of course, considering she uses Scepter/Pistol and Staff, I won’t be too upset if it turns out to be locked behind RNG (again).
The moment I heard her voice I just knew she couldn’t possibly be innocent. :P I have a suspicion that SHE’S going to be the mysterious Aetherblade Captain.
I agree that it would have been nice if it’d been account bound in the vein of the Fervid Censer and Sclerite Karka Shell.
The RNG system has been steadily improving, but it’s not quite perfect yet. The Dragon Bash setup is good in that it allows people who don’t want to drop money on chests to still have a chance to get them, but it just needs one more improvement; the chance to pay money to skip the RNG altogether.
In my opinion, if the Rich Dragon Coffers had contained a guaranteed Jade ticket, the system would have been flawless. By all means, ANet can bump up the price for the Rich Coffers to compensate; I’d have been happy to pay 1000 gems for a single Rich Coffer if it gave a guaranteed ticket. You can bet that fashionistas who wanted several Jade weapons would have happily shelled out more too.
Fingers crossed that it’ll be character-specific. I know all of my characters could do with 5 more skill points.
As for the location, I’m sure you can discover them by yourself with exploration. Or just wait for dulfy’s guide. :P
The OP gets all my thumbs-ups.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with what Sky Pirates is bringing. A new permanent JP? Yes please! New permanent scavenger hunt in LA? Oh yes!
That said, I fully expect the Exo shoulderpads from “Not so Secret” to be once per account. Not sure about the scavenger hunt, but I’d definitely love a free 5 skill points on all my characters.
I suspect the new weapon skins will only drop from the dungeon, although there may be a chance for them to drop from the Aetherblade caches too. (And if the leaked achievements from the ((DELETE ME)) category are correct, all of the caches are found in jumping puzzles.) Aside from the monocle (which was specifically stated as being tradable), I suspect the other weapon skins will either be a ticket or account bound. Disappointing, but the only weapon I really like is the Rapier, and even then, I don’t absolutely NEED it for my Mesmer (since she uses Scepter/Pistol most of the time).
As the title says, the Ogre Wars meta-event in Fields of Ruin seems to be broken whenever I visit the map. The faulty portion seems to be at the point where “Charr and Vanguard forces are assaulting the ogres at Foulbear Kraal”. Among some of the possible bugs I’ve noticed that might be causing it:
1. The Vanguard captain is alone (and sometimes dead) in the middle of Foulbear Kraal. Reviving him and talking to him does nothing.
2. The Charr Ash Legion captain is standing outside the northern gate of Foulbear Kraal. She is invulnerable, but remains stuck there and does not progress or send in additional Charr forces.
3. There are Charr and Vanguard forces within Foulbear Kraal, but they’re just standing there and do not press deeper into the Kraal. They can (and do) get attacked and killed by Ogre forces, so this might be a factor in what’s breaking the meta-event.
Hopefully this brings this to the attention of the developers. It’s sad that a whole meta-event is constantly undoable because it’s always stuck at this point.
Can’t we just have skins that can be bought in TP with gems for a higher price and solve the problem?
Sure, it’s a rip-off, but I guess it’s better than spending 40$ on boxes and getting nothing.
See, that’s what many of us thought was going to happen when ANet announced the Rich Dragon Coffers. That those of us who didn’t want to buy into the RNG process could just pay ANet more and skip the process. (We didn’t even care if the skins were account bound; I’d have happily paid 1000 gems for a single Rich Dragon Coffer if it had a guaranteed skin.)
Maybe Lionguard Lyns needs to come back with her Commendations as she’s started a rescue shelter for Flame & Frost orphans who need a lot of clothing? XD
It would probably need some MF ingredients like Philosopher’s Stones/Crystals/Elonian Wine to avoid people buying them up for cheap and then profitting insanely from it. Otherwise, I agree. I think something like the following:
2 stacks of Common Crafting Materials + Philosopher’s Stones/Crystals + Elonian Wine/Mystic Binding Agent
Makes:
a) 10 – 20 random Fine Crafting Materials of the same Tier, or
b) (Rarely) 1 – 5 random Rare Crafting Materials of the same Tier.
^ What he said. Although, anything is possible with enough Inquest experimentation.
^ As Robles said, never say never. GW1 re-used the same Lion Helmet for Canthan New Year year after year too, and after being retired, the devs made it possible to gain minipets/festival hats/birthday presents from any year. I wouldn’t put it past ANet to do something similar here too. After all, if the RNG chests made them money the first time around, if they wait long enough for demand to build up and release them again, it should make them money again.
I made a suggestion for how we could improve the Jade ticket situation here:
Now I’m wondering… What happens if you got two teams, both with 4 leechers each, and nobody was actually playing? Would the match just go on forever?
Heh, Siob, if I was on the opposite team, I’d be in heaven. Practically guaranteed wins! Easy way to farm your Dragon Ball victories achievement. XD
Foo! Quaggan does not like you.
Classic PEBKAC? Or perhaps a “brother/sister plays a prank on other sibling while they’re AFK” situation?
Now I wonder if anyone has ever done any studies to see if MF recipes with Mystic Forge Stones have higher chances to give precursors…
Does team balancing or the ability to swap teams exist in Dragon Ball? If not, they should. That way, all the active players can swap to the same team and just farm the AFK players (who can’t complain, since they’re still getting Zhaitaffy for their troubles. :P)
The betting works in a similar way to events. If you leave the area (the Lion’s Arch map), the event has no way to give you the rewards.
Unfortunately, I can’t see ANet adjusting this system either, because that would lead to a situation where players would immediately leave the map if they saw that their moa was losing, getting the money refunded to them, resulting in risk-free betting. The only thing to do is to avoid betting on days when your connection is spotty, I’m afraid.
Me and a buddy had a rotation of 4-5 spots with in a good run distant away or a wp near them. After awhile you get a good idea when one is going to pop. isn’t hard to get to the nearest wp, run up, kill it and wp out.
Yep. I found a good location with 4 – 5 spots in both Gendarran Fields and Fields of Ruin.
If nobody messes up the timing, I can hit all of them in a single pass within 5 mins, and then head back to the start to wait for 2 or 3 mins for the first spot to respawn. (And you can do events in the area in the meantime too to pass the time.)
The achievement is only supposed to progress when you get a first place win. However, there appears to be a bug where some people are getting progress even with 2nd or 3rd place wins. If this happens to you, consider yourself lucky.
^ That is a good point, Penguin. Until we can get more concrete numbers showing that higher tier kits have better odds for higher returns of Dust, I guess I can revise my approach to using Basic Kits if I need to salvage Ecto.
Wow, it’s only 20 silver on the TP right now. O.o Maybe I SHOULD pick one up and make the Colossus when it’s fixed, just because I can.
You don’t have your own pile of knights yet? :P
I think I have 4 mostly from trying to finish ‘So Lifelike’.
I finally got 1 after opening 70-odd Coffers for Zhaitaffy and Fireworks. I’m now selling the rest of my Coffers so I don’t believe I’ll get any more.
Man, I would LOVE an unlimited BLSK, but I doubt it would ever happen.
The new login music is still missing though, sadly. Hopefully that will be added soon too.
The Dragon Jade weapons have some of the most intricate details I’ve seen on any weapons in GW2. Personally, I’d prefer it if those details weren’t obscured by particle effects.
Isn’t Dragon Bash only up till the 17th?
It finishes on 9th July.
Dragon Ball achievements are not counting towards the total, for some reason. ANet has been silent on whether this is intended or a bug (although I’m leaning towards the latter.)
