Jeez people, so much hate. Arena-net did state that Guild Wars 2 was going to be an active living story from the very beginning. Nothing stays the same forever.
You would think you would be Happy, for such an involving story.
Theres less hate than you’d think, there are just very vocal people. This is how MMO forums always are.
I think a lot of people will really love it when they participated in an event that only ever happened once, years from now.
Collective, dont get me wrong I like this living story (with some exceptions) but you must realize that the team could as well be a second dungeon or world zone team for more permanent content, right? So yea them making this means less manpower on other things.
This is not the same argument as the web team making gimmicks, the guys that made this and SAB could as well have made more lasting content.
Theres valid critisizm in what you’re saying, but keep in mind they also don’t want this to turn into your average MMO, one of the ways they’re separating it from the herd is with frequent timed content, where if you miss it, you miss it. Its a very interesting concept, one that fits the game’s business model really well too, a lot of people own the game, and they feel its better to keep them coming back regularly, rather than to artificially keep them in game with progression treadmills.
Now that said, I think they’re still shifting teams around in game, I too hope we see more permanent endgame PVE stuff in the near future, but I think Living Story is a cool hook that makes for a lot of “You had to be there” moments, and when you look back even on MMOs with a lot of permanent stuff in the endgame, people reflect on events that happened one time only, quite often.
They just need to find a better balance, but that doesn’t mean divert all resources to one area. I’m really happy with Living Story.

Well holiday achievements are already like that. If you missed Wintersday you cant ever get those achievements again, they’ve already said next year’s will be a whole new set of achievements for that probably.
I’d assume the same of SAB, but its tough to say since the content will still be there, whereas wintersday will likely look very different.
when the SAB comes back can players still get the Distinction of Appleid Jumping title or is that only for this release?
Each World will have a new class of titles, based around degrees, like bachelors, Doctorate, etc. It’s basically Moto’s way of recognizing your level of education according to his program.
Will they be cumulative? Or can you just go right in and get a Doctorate 100%ing the prior worlds? Also I’m pumped for Hard Mode

No, please no, don’t add dueling in open world. It’s annoying enough when people (in other MMO’s) duel in towns and major capital cities…but to add it to WvW would just add a bunch of people who want to stand around dueling rather than the task at hand (trying to take over the world, Pinky!).
It’s bad enough the people that add to the population doing PvE/Dailies/Jumping Puzzles and the ones who are AFK at the borderlands, but to add this would seriously adjust the number of actual people playing in WvW and negate the outmanned buff.
You fail to say how its a problem in the open world other than that its annoying. So your argument is 2 people who want to duel shouldn’t be able to because you don’t like having to look at it while you run through town? Thats… kind of dumb.
That said, they could always put an arena in game for it, or several arenas even. Just an area that, when you head in there, gives you the option of challenging a person to a duel. I’d personally say several, one in every major city, to spread people out.
Why would anyone brag about their rank in the current setup of WXP? The system rewards nothing but objectives and killing, and even then screws it up and does not measure meaningful contribution to a kill, just that you did minimum amount of damage to tag stuff as you run around spamming whatever is easiest to tag stuff. It takes 1 person to take a camp, why are 70+ getting the same reward?
The system is a joke and the higher rank meaning nothing other then you can spam aoe in a giant zerg while running around in a karma train doing pvdoor. Not a play style I think we should reward. I do not want to see my own team’s rank, it would impact my ability to take them seriously.
It still shows the amount of time a person has dedicated to WvW, and we can display it to enemies at the moment too. Earlier I made the comparison to Vanilla WoW’s top tier titles, they were a lot more grind than skill as well, but they’re still an impressive feat, and something thats fun to have attributed to your character.
When you get right down to it, most prestige in this game is work and not skill, but that doesn’t mean people don’t like having it to show.

I’d like them to use prefixes. At 60, when you are “knight” you get sir/dame.then maybe at 120 lord/lady. they could have them spaced apart but it would still rock.
Thats tricky though with people already being able to use words like that in their name.
I posted about this a couple weeks back. Make the ranks display somehow or make whatever rank you have a selectable title. East enough solution. 100% agree that your allies should be able to see it.
Yeah, it seems so obvious, I’m surprised they haven’t done anything about it, or even said anything about it yet.
I hate to draw the comparison, but I think back to Vanilla WoW and how much people grinded to get to Grand Marshall and High Warlord. When you saw one of those people around town, you knew they’d put a lot of time and effort into that title, and with WvW, it’d mean they put a lot of time and effort into fighting for their server.
Especially if they’re going to keep expanding upon it like this, why is a commander tag the only displayable thing we have?
I think we can all agree WvW could use a bit more prestige. I was pretty pumped when WXP came out, and I love that I show up to enemies as increasing ranks, but I think many people would love to show off their WvW dedication to their own side too, I know I would. Right now the WvW titles in achievements are all we have, and that doesn’t really show how much you play WvW or anything, plus they’re kitten near impossible to obtain.
Does this mean that when the dye packs go away, so will the special dyes? Forever?
They obviously wont be gone from your character, but I dont think there has been any official word on how obtainable they will be yet. Probably because the second there is an official word on anything, the Trading Post reacts accordingly.
This does not mean that Rox and Braham won’t continue to be important characters once this story ends though.

Frankly I’d rather they took a long walk off a short cliff and stayed in their instances. Hopefully they wont be the ones getting credit for the next Elder Dragon we push 2 at.
Well to be honest, there are other characters we want to introduce too, so Rox and Braham will need to step into the background once Flame and Frost ends, at least for a while.
We were actually talking about this in a meeting a few days ago. We want the characters we are introducing to continue to live their lives once they leave the forefront. But what we do not want is for them to end up in an instanced map with no development for months at a time.
We do want to provide motivation for players to check up on these characters when they are in the background but I cannot provide any details (or spoil anything :p) on that yet.
Don’t pay attention to only the people who hate on Braham and Rox, I actually like both of them (Rox more personally), I do want to see what happens with them in the future, and I think GW2 specificially needs more “named” characters than just destiny’s edge.

I believe Ecto return rates are equal on the two, how big is the sample pool you’re comparing? Anything below several hundred uses of each is strictly anecdotal evidence.
BLSK is mainly used for its 100% return rate on runes and sigils in my experience.
One of my favorite things in many MMOs I’ve played is obtaining things like Pets, Titles, Mounts, Toy items, and so on.
While many of these do exist in GW2, they seem to be often bound to the gem store or achievements. The ones I’m talking about are Mini Pets that have a 2% drop chance off specific bosses, or Titles earned for doing strange things in a dungeon, like getting through TA without setting off a single Deadly Blossom. These make me want to go back and replay content for pointless cosmetic rewards, and theres so much potential there, but I feel its untapped still.
Also add things like Toy Items to crafting maybe, the Unbreakable Choir Bell is the only one I can think of, and it was from the christmas event. In WoW I literally spent like 10+ hours fishing in a fountain in Dalaran, just to get a worthless coin I could flip.
Living story has the opportunity to be massive, a huge deal. But why has nothing happened since the patch cycle? One of the main components of Living Story was that it’d update every week or so, even adding just small new things to do. Yet we’ve seen no real changes since the March patch in terms of content far as I can tell.
Use some of these awesome new characters you’ve made(particularly the albino baby devourerer). I’d like to see them calling me to arms and heading out into the world.
Yeah. These matches were far more enjoyable when populations were more evenly matched. Another big fail for Anet for allowing all of the transfers. Getting flashbacks to a few months back of being outmanned by servers with larger WvWvW populations and long days of spawn camping by the population bloated enemies. And to think…I was just feeling good about coming back to WvWvW the last few weeks.

The complete reversal in the competitiveness of this particular bracket came – conveniently – at the same time that server transfers were opened. So, great! Enjoy your new found leetness. Just don’t kid yourself into thinking that your new found prowess has anything to do with anything other than your new population. Grats!
Wow, thats a lot of animosity. I think people who point that out are just saying that HoD did win the week before transfers by a few thousand as well, but I agree you can certainly chock up the 20k+ lead to the influx of people, but ranks will stabalize again in time and everyone will get new, good matchups.
Are there any plans to let people potentially show off their ranks in game to our own server? I know the leaderboards will do this to some extent.

Its kinda hard to justify why characters can rez and revive in MMO worlds, even the games that justify it best still have a hard time working lore around it because then when you kill off a lore character permanantly you need to come up with a reason why they couldn’t have rezzed.
Just take rezzing as what it is, a gameplay mechanic, if you need a lore reason, think of it as a “what if” scenario, as in what if this hero failed and died in the process of fighting this monster, but canonically it never actually did happen that way.
You just cant target it while its starting animation happens, problem is that it dies so fast that by the time you can target it like normal its over.
Got the same problem. I had 6/7 in Minor in Enhancement and when I bought the slingshot I still had 6/7, while I have all item upgrades (Slingshot, Bomb, Purse, Whip, Candle, Shovel and Moto’s Breath)

I think, and dont hold me to it, that its the Pirate Staff skin. At the very end of the Sharkmaw Caverns jumping puzzle there is an NPC that sells a set of Pirate Weapons.
When not playing on infantile mode, you can loot bubble baubles from the chest at the end, you’ll get it pretty quick with little to no grind just playing it throughout the month.
I dont plan on using any of the skins on my character, but I’m still enjoying the hell out of Super Adventure Box. They’ve said Daggers and Rifles will come with World 2 one day.
They’ve said this was more of a preview event, I dont think we’re getting the other worlds this month. Maybe if it sees a full release.
You’re right, this 1 event sums up the whole demographic.
We are a very small team. The more skins we made, the less stuff we could make in the Box. So we settled for a minimal set, with plans to add to it with each new World we release. I love Engies and I wish we could have served them and Thieves better this time around, but had to make some tough choices.

They had a small team who were working on this project, and they wanted it out as a fun thing for April fools. It doesn’t sound lazy to me, and I too am a player, of an Engineer no less.
Honestly, if it’s possible, they probably don’t care. I mean, this isn’t something they would just overlook, it’s a pretty obvious thing. That being said, if they cared, they probably would have handed out warnings beforehand.

You are aware that Wintersday is based on, right? Christmas. Christmas is a religious celebration.
Also, Easter and St. Patrick’s Day were both celebrated in GW1 in small ways (random item drops). I see no reason why GW2 shouldn’t continue this trend.
Christmas has become a consumer holiday. Halloween stems from Pagan religion, but 90% of people who celebrate it aren’t doing it for the reasons the Pagans are, just like many people who celebrate Christmas aren’t doing it for Christianity or Catholoisism.
I expect HoD to win every week from now on, so many transfers >.>

The tier is pretty close together point-wise (the closest tier in NA I think), we should change out pretty quickly if someone wins a few weeks in a row or loses a few weeks in a row, no?

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure this is a bug, the highest title for sPvP achievements is the same as getting 25 points in the Hall of Monuments, they both reward the “Ascendant” title, and no other 2 achievements reward the same title (especially for such different tasks).
Seems odd to me, so I figured its probably a typo or small error, was hoping maybe for ANet confirmation on this.
If 10 is the tallest a character can be, and 1 the shortest, I generally aim for 7 or 8, taller than the medium, but shorter than the tallest by a couple of notches.
ANet can’t change the setup they have. When free transfers were ending everyone on mid-tier servers panicked and flooded to tier 1 and 2 servers, so they’re vastly overpopulated.
They’ve dont this free tranfer to medium servers week and at least so far, Henge of Denravi has been having some pretty fun WvW since it happened IMO. We’re not a T1 server at all, but I just want fun competition, not to be the best.
tl;dr: You’re on a T1 server, it comes with the territory. Deal with it.
Same (good) argument goes for Laurel/Commendation-purchased Ascended items.
Eh, Laurels are going to be a very long term currency, eventually, you WILL have an abundance of them. Thing is, legendaries literally take months to earn, while the most expensive Laurel ascended piece will take 1 month to earn if you do your dailies and monthly that month. I don’t think you can quite say they’re on the same footing as someone who has spent 4 months on their legendary and is still going at it.

I really don’t want to see things like Map Completion,Event Karma, or Fractal/WvW levels, to be account wide. I know people feel like its punishing you for rolling alts, but honestly I like character progression to feel somewhat, I dunno, bound to the character.
While some things I love having as personal account things, like achievements, I like feeling that my character has individually progressed as well. Maybe I’m old school that way though.

So everything as the endgame for you is either too easy, or way too diffiuclt?
2-3 hours is more than enough time to run a fractals run and start getting ascended gear, while also doing your dailies and monthlies for ascended amulets and accessories. Ascended gear is nothing like a legendary, but you already seem to have written it off as such.
You say it takes time, effort, and dedication, and act like thats a bad thing. It really doesn’t take much time or effort at all, not even 1/20th of a legendary’s effort to get a few ascended pieces. Time, effort, and dedication aren’t a bad thing to have at end game, without them things are spoon fed to you, and thats hardly any fun at all.

I had done several t3 bounties in the early days, as my guild unlocked them ASAP with 300G+ in influence.
Half Baked Komali? Joke. We owned him hard.
Fast forward to last week.
Half Baked Komali. OWNED US. OWNED. We started with about 8 on him, they needed help so we sent our guild, 20 people or so to come help. OWNED US. everyones dying. I spam healing seed pods to get rid of fire. Still. Only at 50 percent HP. couldnt kill him before timer.

I like your tactics, but I dont understand. So wait, he has stability, you need to remove it, then knockback once to remove fire shield? Please post more detailed tactics on how to beat him, it would be great.
His basic tactics are as follows:
If his flame shield is up, he takes SIGNIFICANTLY less damage, you need to remove it if you want to kill him, also attacking him while it is up gives him might stacks and stability, you need to get someone with boon removal (Necro for example) to remove the boons, his stability and defiance and all that, at that point he will be able to be knocked down, any knockdowns you do will remove his fire shield, and he’ll take normal damage and melt like any other boss. Repeat once his shield is back up.
Like I said, he isn’t the only one you cant just zerg, one of the new bounties, Big Mayna or something like that will eat people and then jump around so you cant hit her, you need to stay at range and dodge when she goes to eat you. Cant just run in swinging swords and expect to win.
Be glad there’s two, instead of “that dude has no life” people will think, “oh it’s probably the HoM title, cool guy”

I’d always thought all these Ascendants I see walking around were rank 80s untill I noticed this actually.
Depends which target, some of them have actual mechanics.
For example if you just zerg Half Baked Komali you will not kill him, you first need to use boon removal to get rid of his stability, then have someone with a knockback hit him with it, this will remove his fire shield and he can then be fought like normal. If you try to just zerg and bash his face in, he only takes something like 10% of incoming damage total while his fire shield is up, and theres no way you’ll kill him even with 50 people.
Other bosses have similar mechanics to watch out for too, they’re not all just “Run in and bash in their face” bosses.

There should be a third Ascendant title, reachable when you have 30 ascended rings in your warehouse.
30 rings?! Sounds like you should vendor em, thats like a gold and a half right there.
Browsing achievements, and I saw the top tier of sPvP titles is Ascendant, pretty cool and all, but then browsing the titles you could get from Hall of Monuments for 25 points its also Ascendant.
Is this intentional? I feel like one should be Ascended or something, it seems odd to have 2 of the same title for different achievements.
