I’d say the bigger problem are the debuffs.
The only one that provides a true negative debuff when using Quickness is Frenzy, making the warrior take 50% more damage.
If all quickness effects had this, it would be fine. But atm, the ranger debuff isn’t even noticeable and the thief debuff is countered by having Vigor and stealthing.

I just feel like this deserves more emphasis.

Frenzy on a warrior is basically pure suicide if anyone’s paying any attention at all, and it is COMPLETELY USELESS in any 1v1 situation. That’s in stark contrast to the ranger or thief versions (no healing for the former, sapped endurance for the latter), where the downsides are easily mitigated. There needs to be balance here.

About self-rooting skills, I want you to remember that PW deal around 8-9k dmg and ca be used from the safety of stealth, an ele using churning earth deal 1/4 of the dmg, get self-rooted for far longer and has no access to stealth..ty

Precisely.

If the risk/reward were to be equivalent, Elementalist’s Churning Earth should do as much damage in the entire AoE as a thief’s backstab, but right now it’s not even close. It’s pathetic.

Not at all. You get points for defending in, say, LOL’s Dominion, but people don’t just sit on one point because you still get more points for being aggressive (considerably more points, in fact – where you get, say, 10 points every 10 seconds for camping a point, you get 40 points for neutralizing and 40 points for capturing a point – which is the equivalent of getting 2.5 points every 10 seconds sitting on a point in GW2).

There SHOULD at least be a “martyr” reward for dying on points. League of Legends’ Dominion mode has one, and it’s very encouraging – it gives a point equivalent to neutralizing or capping points (but not both at once). You also get points just for assisting with captures (being near a point without actually being in the circle when it’s capped), which would be particularly useful considering points don’t actually cap any faster when more players are on them (though they really should, frankly).

Also, you get 1 point just for supporting teammates with any kind of buff or heal, as well as points for interrupting enemy capture attempts, and points for just sitting on a point to defend it every 10 seconds. You can see it here.

I really like the system as it does a much, MUCH better job of actually measuring how much you’re really contributing to the team’s success than GW2’s current system does (which only really measures point capping and kills, not much more). I actually find it rather galling that they didn’t just lift Dominion’s scoring system wholesale. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

People are not taking into account taht there is currently issues with stealth, as in you are not instantly revealed when you do damage. this 1-2 secs of not being revealed makes a huge difference for pistol whip, as it takes a moment before the skill even starts channeling. were this issue fixed, you’d have a significantly larger window to stunbreakand get out.

This is very true and a hugely noteworthy issue.

The lengthy delay before an unstealthed thief appears makes stealth incredibly powerful in this game, and makes it pretty much impossible to react to a hasted pistol whipper.

Pistol whip and HB is extremely useful in “higher tier play”. You just have to know when to use them.

With quickness, yes. Without quickness… hell no. With the combination of a self-root AND melee range? Good luck with that!

I agree here. Pistol whip without quickness is not a problem; and if the stun was removed (or changed into an interrupt) and the self-root removed it would actually require some modicum of skill to use in sticking to the target.

Actually, I think none of the attacks should be self-rooting; this includes warrior’s hundred-blades. Atm they’re just pure pub-stomp abilities; they have no use in higher-tier play where everyone’s packing a stun break/condition removal of some kind (and have even less use without quickness).

I’m really tired of people justifying the thief’s ridiculous burst potential with “oh, they’re just a low skill-floor class”.

The “low skill-floor” characters in fighting games are also far-and-away the most often played in higher echelons of tournaments. When it takes you more effort to do just a little bit better, the trade-off is simply not worth it.

With capturing, a simple solution would just to make capping faster the more players are on a point (why it doesn’t work like this already is entirely beyond me considering how unintuitive it is).

One thing you haven’t mentioned is the lack of a “martyr”-type reward, that is to say, some kind of point reward when you die in the attempt to capture or defend a point. This sort of thing hugely encourages at least making the attempt, which they should – as it is, you’re discouraged from taking any action unless you’re 99% sure you’re going to win.

It’s incredibly demoralizing to distract half a team for 30 seconds while the rest of my own team is off capping the other points and then gain absolutely nothing afterwards for all the effort. I’ve actually contributed more to the team by reducing the pressure on them but get nothing to show for it? Not very nice, that.

How about the fact that almost nothing on that map counts as skirmisher OR defensive kill? I earn less than half the points as normal because even if I stomp someone five feet from a point I don’t get the defensive kill and even stomping people around the cannon doesn’t give you a skirmisher.

Never mind how a good 40% of the map from the ship and the entire area of water around it is mostly useless space.

This is the absolute worst map in the rotation. Bar none. It needs to be either dramatically fixed (preferably with the removal of the Ruins because underwater PvP SUCKS) or just outright replaced by something that doesn’t suck.

I just skip it every time now. No point to it. It’s just masochistic.

I absolutely agree with regard to the secondary objectives. I find them more of a chore than anything actually interesting or fun, ESPECIALLY the trebuchets, which I’ve actually seen destroyed by both teams at the beginning of games multiple times just so players won’t have to deal with it.

Capricorn itself is my least favorite map for omitting the 10-point “skirmisher” bonus that you get on other maps (wtf?!), which coincidentally also makes it the absolute worst map for gaining glory. Not very nice, that. Throw Ruins on top of that and you just have such a mess that I’d rather just leave immediately than subject myself to what is inevitably going to be a very not-fun experience.

Well, between questionable balance issues, non-existent matchmaking (lol premade vs pugs), and a complete and utter lack of communication, it’s understandable people aren’t taking it very seriously atm.

THIS PLEASE.

The default field of view is completely terrible. 60-degrees is something I expect from a console game, not a native PC game! Not only does it induce motion sickness in several players (especially those who game with large screens that are close to their faces), but it makes the game itself look bad, with screenshots being heavily compromised by the terrible FoV.

Please add a FoV option or at least change the FoV to a default of 90-degrees horizontal (at a minimum!).

There’s a gate to Lion’s Arch in Rata Sum (actually, there should be one in every major city). From Lion’s Arch you can then just take a gate to whatever race’s major city you want to go to.

Think about how heavy humans can get. 200-300lbs for heavy-set humans is not extraordinarily out of the norm, particularly for trained body-builders. Thus 120lbs for a warrior Asura is not out of their league, either.

Most would probably be in the 40-70lb range, no doubt about it, but there are exceptions and they would definitely be able to get pretty darned heavy.

I say up to and possibly beyond 120lbs because bodybuilders can routinely break the 170lb mark at 5’8", and considering this a fantasy game, anything goes.

And you really, really need to actually set an Asura next to a human sometime. Their bodies are short, but not small in girth, and their heads are still bigger than every other races’ heads (in some cases, bigger than their TORSOS, too!).

Considering that gear is designed to be entirely equal in PvP and all racial skills are removed from play, I somehow doubt race has any bearing in it whatsoever.

If nothing else, however, Asura do look smaller, which may or may not get you more or less attention than other players.

HB isn’t the problem, it’s the combination of that and Bull Rush/Bola + Haste. As far as I’m concerned, quickness is just ridiculously OP on any class, it does far too much for too little downside.

Recognize the problem at its roots. HB on its own is really not very impressive at all.

They’re kind of rotund, and their heads are enormous.

I’d say adults weigh anywhere from 50-120 lbs (high end for well-trained warriors and such – realistically, they could go higher).

Judging from how my (maxed height) Asura stands next to a human, I’d say they go from 3-4 feet tall.

I actually like this aspect of Asura. Only Charr can expose their chest like female Asura do, and they’re covered in fur! Totally awesome.

I can already imagine the looks they get from human and norn females when they walk around barechested!
