Experience: My thief is my first and main character, and I have been playing him since early access and the pre-launch betas. I’ve played the game on and off since release, having only around 2500 hours total in game time (I don’t afk). About 1800 of those hours are on my thief, with a majority of that time in sPvP.
While I consider it a bit arrogant to claim myself to be “high-class”, I feel it is safe to say I know how to play a thief and how to play it well in all formats due to my experience and sPvP focus with the game. I win most of my 1v1s on a thief (especially against other thieves) and I almost never die in a match anymore. I’m also well versed in all of the main builds and weapon sets for the thief.
I’ve also spent some time helping newbie players learn pvp and specific builds, albeit not always on a thief specifically. I’ll leave it up to the leaders of the guild to decide if I’m fit enough to help other players, but I’m mainly joining so I can learn myself. I feel there is always room to improve, and I would love an opportunity to play with some other experienced thieves and learn from them. Of course, if it is found that I am fit to help others, I’ll be more than happy to share my knowledge to those who ask. Though, I find that, like with most things, the best teacher is experience, and having actual 1-on-1 duels and instruction will help more than any answer to a question about theory or mechanics.

Been playing Thief since day zero beta, I ran dd before the nerfs and balance patches, flipped to S/p but got bored and now i run a mix of weird D/P that i flop from ( still trying to find a solid D/P build, having a really hard time with either 0,6,0,2,0,6 or the good old Panic strike build) would love some help with roaming i dont do it enough anymore.
I would wait till June 23rd and see how the patches roll out, as we (all classes) are getting new traits, baseline stats, abilities and who knows what else.. Metas are about to break, new builds are coming and we have no idea how any of this is going to play out yet.
So If im understanding this correctly from the other forum threads we only need to go into the Guild Area pve zone capture our Hall then everyone can use it?
Also im currious does anyone know if this will be like the old halls in Warhammer where we can customize them and play attack/defend on them? or let others visit.. Anet really didnt do a good job describing the expanision and with the flood of anger I can now understand why people are mad.
Server no longer matters except for WvW (We have a megaserver now everyone in pve plays on the same world more or less)
What is there tto do after exploring the world?.. Theres 2 new maps Dry Top and the Silverwastes you could check out (WvW and PvP hasnt changed at all)
If dead set on a caster profession try out ele it is amazing at staff aoe skills, and extremely supportive with healing waters and damage output aoes.
I will probably not be doing much pve, ( I could seriously care less about pve other than world bosses which are a laughing joke at the moment)..
Will guild halls be accessable to everyone in the guild or only people who have HoT?
If I understand correctly WvW will get the new maps even if we dont buy the expansion?
Any bonuses or anything for veterans that I may have missed out on?

Seriously Anet what are you doing?? It seems they are trying to build for pve and totally ignoring wvw/pvp class balances. I see a lot of hype on Executioner.. (THIS ISNT NEW, we already have this ability) and I dont see the meta changing much, we have seriously gained nothing from this. Nobody uses traps theyre slow, unreliable and have way to long of cooldown in combat to be usefull, the abilites for Engi to reveal us and mes to “outstealth us” is a work on the qq stealth crying nerfs from a majority of players who dont even play thief. The same thing happend when rangers cried they couldnt do anything.
TLDR people will cry for a while, get used to it.. Anet will fix it and there will be more crying.
Just about every single full time WvW player hates this idea, it destroyed server balance, flooded map ques, brought in tons of pve players just looking for rewards so they could get skins, and burned out tons of commanders..
The idea of tokens is nice, but I think Im safe to say the majority of us DO NOT want another Tourney.

Because you can only have 3 Servers in each tier at a time (Its how you get your match ups) IE: for T2 its SoS, FA, and YB the current match up, if the points system wasnt so horribly broken you may expect so see FA go up to T1 sometime and and T1 server come down, however because the “glicko” point reward system for winning each week is so broken this isnt the case.
Most of T1, and T2 are locked meaning the servers arent going to change positions anytime soon.
you mean the 1v1 arena in pvp??
personally Id find it annoying getting random people running up and hitting duel all day long. if people want to pvp most just go to wvw and duel, or the pvp arena. while its a nice idea.. its not really needed.
^ I read that twice and I still dont understand.. I think OP doesnt like pve because he finds it slow? and doesnt like pvp because the maps are confusing? (not really just play on point..) and theres no “open pvp” meaning he may have not discovered WvW??
As for playing a thief its designed to be squishy.. youre a thief learn to move and dodge, thiefs can poison just like necros so im not what that point is trying to accomplish. 2nd thieves have the highest escape of any class with stealth, blinds and evades. Maybe OP just needs to play the class more and learn some techniques?
Considering d/p only does blind, youd be better off running s/d sb (odd as that sounds) at least then you could get bleeding and poision from it.
Or be really really weird and go s/d pp…

D/D thief isnt widely used in PvP anymore, it was very popular during launch but with so many changes its gone away.

gear doesnt matter in pvp, you can only pick weapons, sigils, runes and your amulet.

Honestly.. what Jay said.. find the meta learn it.. then BREAK IT.. I run a d/p thief in wvw.. close to the metabattle build, you have to find what works for you. once people learn how to counter metas youll need to learn to adapt to what works, changing it up from backstabbing all the time I can now backstab and and panic strike for a totally different gameplay that throws people off…

What????… In order for that to happen you would 100% have to totally redo every single skill in the game, redo animations and rework targeting, Seige weapons would have to be redone, auto targeting would not exist calling a target wouldnt work… I dont see a way this could ever happen.

I’ll clarify. I watched the GvGs. Only my second night so it still looks like 2 blobs smashing into each other but it sounds amazing when you can listen in on their comms. (Twitch). Regardless, some people love it and I like seeing players use the arena constructively.
I personally support that 100%.
You should come by Friday night 6/12/2015 for the FA,YB, SoS gvgs… it is insane 2 hours of non stop guild vs guild fighting.. weve had mandatory 2 week long training for this. It should be an awesome event to watch.
Or you could come and swing by resets and check out the Servers and meet the different populations, maybe get some ideas for HoT, fighting mechanics and what not.
No. HoT isnt coming out next patch..
For now leveling up past 80 will grant skill points and youll be able to use them.
Once HoT comes out our skill points will be converted into Shards which we will use for whatever the purpose is (as that hasnt been fully clarified yet)
If HoT was coming out next patch we would know.
NPCs gets specially designed skill sets all the time. If you played the Living Story (spoiler alert) you’ll see how OP Caithe’s D/D skill sets are.
I will glady give up all of my thiefs trap skills for Caithes d/d skills
If you like thief you could try many variations of it.. pd condi as listed above, D/p (sorta like DD but easier to land nails and more mobility) s/d thief for mobility and all around uniqiness like none other, go dd/pp and just wail on people for giggles if you want.
I had the same issue as you, I ran dd since beta but with the nerfs and patches, balances and overall gameplay changing I found it just to be not to my taste anymore, if you like thief find a thief playstyle you enjoy.
As for Ele you may like dd ele? (its insanely fun to play very similiar to the old dd thief days) I havent tested it out in pvp much, but it is an absolute riot in wvw and one of the highest damage outputs in the game.
ohh man Warhammer fights.. Chosen vs War Priest… OMG , witch hunter vs witch elf… these were legendary matchups!!
RvR was amazing you would stay gridlocked for hours in the frontline not moving just trying to gain a few inches so your backline could attack.

Ive been doing world bosses on thief for a while now running full 100% zerk ( I wvw a lot..)
Teq= stay on a turret or go help the spots other than the zerg, or if you do zerg always know where youre safe area is (where are you gona SR, evade to, if you go down wheres an ally who can rez?..)
Shatter = ShortBow.. just spam the fields
SB= shortbow for blasting fields and damage, then d/p the portals + shadowstep to get back and nuke
Maw = nuke it he wont even aknowledge you
Covington = run bombs (shortbow for speed + signit of shadows) then blast fields once her RI goes off
Jormag = again run bombs + kill ice staying in the zerg
Megadestroyer = Shortbow….
FE = dies in 5 seconds just spam fields
Jungle wurm = spam sb fields and go melee when its not whirling around
Ulgoth= Shortbow again..
Youre doing enough damage where you dont have to worry about a party, just pay attention and youll do fine, the only boss I die on is the Mark II golem because I dont pay attention to his electric field which is totally my own fault.
World bosses are not hard in the least bit, just coordinate with everyone and pay attention. The Key to thief is you have one of the THE BEST blast finishers in the game and you can spam it all you want. just hammer down on the combo fields to help your zerg out and youll be fine

http://www.gw2armor.com/ is going to be your best bet… try looking at all the sets then mixing and matching the ones you like.
For WvW you should post what server you are on. (Since it does matter in WvW) also post what you like to do.. do you roam? havoc? zerg? scout?
how much experience do you have? do you like to command? how much expierience do you have?
If you truely want to find the right guild for you be as discriptive as possible and tell exactly what you want.
You would have to implement a system on the music.. otherwise people could just hold one note all day and rake in xp… maybe something along the lines of the Bell choir during Wintersday?

Honestly I would like to see something along the lines of a “marked for death” skill where if your allies attack the same target as you, we share buffs/incoming damage and both gain X might X fury.. although I know this is never going to happen because it would be extremely overpowered.. but I can dream right?

I would agree thief needs some work…lets look at some common issues we have
>1. Condi clearance / we simply cannot keep up with condi builds even if you max out SA

Ive playing thief since beta (Happy 1000 days of gw2 today!) as we continually get nuked down by damage nerfs, ferocity, and condi changes, I would gladly welcome so more variety, I remember back in early release you could litteraly 1 shot any class with dd this is no longer the case, (prob for a better more fair gameplay i suppose) again my issue goes back to balance.. were in a tough spot right now.

^ These all sound like amazing ideas, it would certainly add a new level to WvW and give us a reason to use our badges, rank points.. I seriously like the WvW specific skills you mentioned!
Altough im generaly against this change (mainly due to the overnight issue stated, being that if there is no people on at night you may wake up to a full maxed out map in the morning…) I do see some light here in terms of gameplay..

The guard stack thing im still mixed on.. I already have very low health, will I have to completely redo my build or will something else be given to us?

Black Powder + Heartseeker = intstant revealed,
SR is also a revealed after 2 seconds
Hide in Shadows = revealed after 2 seconds
Attacking after stealth will also not cancel revealed..

Rocketmist you may want to add any very specific qualifictions?… personally I would like to see this guild turn into a serious force to deal with. A “counter zerg” if it could grow that size with serious heavy high level commander skill almost to a military precision point where we could have small scout groups and havocs along our main force..
I have no idea on the numbers needed for this. I feel like this could be great for the server, however it will also be a very long project… whats the timeframe we are looking at?
