Personally I don’t agree with being able to turn off special effects for legendary’s. I am also a little confused why you didn’t mention some of the other vanity skins in your post. I personally find the super adventure box skins extremely annoying. I feel they take away from the over all atmosphere of the game.

Plus on a side note I really dont even think this should be on anet’s radar right now. They have far bigger issues at this time.

This kinda seems like a response to the recent incident that I will not mention in fear of being infracted. All I will say is it is sad that it has come to this. Where ArenaNet has to give themselves a boost in power in order to make sure they are not at fault. Anet vs The Players?

^I was trying to give my opinion on this but I’m sure somehow that can be worthy of an infraction.

I have to agree as well I can not put my finger on it perfectly, but as a player I am starting to feel ostracized. Today’s post just makes me feel worse as a paying customer and player.

Personally if I was the head of Arena.net and I read a post where someone said they felt lied to I been extremely upset. I would want to know what caused that customer to feel that way and going forward how could I fix it.

These new set of rules feel like a way for Arena.net as a company to justify upsetting the community as a whole.

I also feel its now Players vs Arena.net where we will be censored if the post hurts any one at arena.nets feelings. I feel like this is a slippery slope that could end up hurting the game in the long run.

Halloween Living Story Dropped the ball

I am going to keep this short and sweet. The Halloween living story was something I was seriously looking forward to. I heard all the awesome events and achievements that happened last year. Then there where the awesome skins they added that you could obtain.

This year’s event was extremely short and unsatisfying. There are barely any achievements for the event its self. Where is a pumpkin carving achievement or a achievement for the mini game? Also the new Halloween skins are RNG cash shop items. I understand the cash shop is a important part of the game for arena.net but it shouldn’t be there central focus players should be.

I am extremely dis pointed in anet right now and hope they right this wrong soon.

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

reading thought the last few post I feel extremely bad for you guys when you grow up. Supply and demand is what the real world is built on. Precursor’s have a low supply high demand so there expensive. They wouldn’t stay expensive if people where not willing to pay there high prices. We should also not ignore the fact there used to craft the best item’s in the game.

People have this entitled attitude in this thread. I am sorry but your not entitled to a precursor nor are you entitled to a legendary. I do think crafting them should be a viable method. I also think it should be extremely hard and time consuming.

I currently have bolt and am working on The Juggernaut. I already have the precursor “The Colossus” it took me week in a half to save the 550gold up to get it. Little bit of “WORK” goes a long way.

A message for the negative player base

Maybe if there is a large group of people who feel the same way about the game. They are unhappy about the way the game is progressing then perhaps… the game needs fixing.

A great example of a game people where super unhappy about and is now tanking rapidly is World of Warcraft… People complained on the forum for almost 2 years… now the game is losing 100k+ people a month.

Also most the time when people complain its not cause they hate the game its cause they love the game and want better from it. Tell yea the truth I hadn’t heard to many people talk highly of the game lately. This game is starting to become a lot like the Nintendo Wii… The design was cool the idea’s where cool.. the execution was horrible.

The Games Current Direction

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

angelpaladin.7921

I want to start off by saying there is no right or wrong answer to this question. I think everyone is entitled to there opinion and they should be respected.

My question is pretty simple do you like the current direction the game is going? Please give reasons why you do or don’t. I have no idea if they read these thread’s I would assume they do but I am not sure.

My personal opinon I do not like the direction the game is currently going in. There are a number of things I think need some serious improvement.

This game is riddled with bug’s big and small. I know some of the bugs are not a huge deal like mesmer blink causing u to slide until you jump. Other bugs are a huge huge deal like the poorly designed finally boss on the new TA dungeon. What happens is if you get to close to the generator’s they rubber band around.

Another thing I do not enjoy is lack luster crafting system where 98% of the 400-500 crafts are BOA (Bind On Account). There is also the time-gated material’s which are not BoA that can be bought on the TP. That make’s no since to me either and I think the argument will it allow’s casual’s to catch up is flimsy at best. I would personally like to be able to use my crafting to help fellow guildes and friends out but am unable to.

The new harder Tequatl fight is another glaring issue with the game. I love the idea and mechanics behind the fight I think there simply awesome. The problem is its not instance based. The fight is a raid based fight and requires strategic planning yet in most cases you have a max of 30-50 people who know what there doing with another 100 that have no clue hoping they can spam 1 for a kill.

There is also the fact its now pretty much dead content. I had a guildy who went to Tequatl a few nights ago he said on the main map there where 3 people waiting. He then went to blackgate one of the heaviest most populated servers. He said there might have been 80 people waiting for it. What I have read it takes at least a 100 to have a fair shot at killing Tequatl. That means in another 1-2months it will be a ghost town where maybe 5 or 6 people show up and get there butt’s kicked.

The living story has also in my eye’s been a bad direction to take the game in. I personally would prefer. Major Quarterly update’s where they add in a new dungeon and a living story leading up to it. I am tired already of the bogus filler content. We have huge evil dragons flying around ravaging the world. We are busy fighting pirates and a ticked off flower.

One more thing I will mention I think they need to take a step back and remember this game is called Guildwars I feel like guild’s are not there main focus or even there sub focus. Bringing the community together is fine but they shouldn’t be force feeding it to people like there trying to do.

I do enjoy the game and I do plan to continue to play, but at the same time I don’t see my self playing in another 6month’s. Major changes need to start happening soon or my personal opinion is this game will take the same road that Rift and Starwars Old Republic has.

I am curious to here what the community feels also. Who know’s maybe we can help shape the game we love.

Do they need raids?

I am not trying to be negative but there current system is not working. I think they are at a cross roads that will determine the future of GW2. I think if they continue on there current progression they will lose most there player base in the upcoming year. I think they will be forced to add instance content at some point I just hope its not to late. I am really glad Anet added something like Tequatl but they did it completely wrong.

Tequatl is basically a zerg and is really a extremely unfun fight. I have yet to here anyone say they are getting more then 20-40 fps in the fight there is so much lag going on u cant do most of the mechanics. Things like jumping dodging and just simply moving are a chore. I am sorry but lag is not a game mechanic regardless of what people think.

I predict now that in a month or two it will be a ghost town abandoned because most guilds will have finished the content and there will be no organization.

This is the problem with catering to the carrot style of gamer.

Once they reach the carrot… they want another carrot. GJ “breaking” the mold their Anet.

Cannot wait to see the first expansion:

Level increase to 90, takes as long as it took to get from 1-80 to get 80-81 and it triples each level!!
New Transended equipment! Only got from World Bosses! Take on the new Shatterer and get a .001% each time to get it!

I am extremely confused to what other kinda game exist? All games are carrots on a stick when you boil them down to there bottom lines.

Games have evolved over the year’s and the carrot is no longer beating the game. These day’s the carrot is working towards a goal typically some type of treasure. I really cant think of a single example that does not revolve around some kinda carrot here are some examples.

Mario Bros. – July 14, 1983 – The Carrot was saving the princess

The Legend of Zelda July 29, 1987 – The carrot was simply beating the game defeating the end game boss

Doom December 10, 1993 – The carrot was saving the world by beating the game.

Diablo December 31, 1996 – Carrot was leveling and getting loot to progress your character.

I could keep going mentioning more and more games. The bottom line is there is always a carrot aka a goal to achieve. What the op is saying is he no longer feel’s that goal exist. I can sorta feel his pain right now the thing keeping me in GW2 is my friend’s.

Precursors and T6 : Drop rate and crafting

I have pretty much read this entire post and have to agree RNG does not work for final tier/ end game item’s in MMO’s.

The RNG system does work in some games such as Diablo . A game like Diablo is based around crawling dungeons exploring for hidden treasure to enhance your character. There is no complex crafting system in the game so when you where rewarded with RNG then it was a true reward.

When it comes to end game gear in MMO’s people want a path to obtain it. This does not have to be a easy path just a path. All MMO’s use a semi-rng loot system when it comes to end game loot. There are raids people join to kill bosses with set loot tables. The reason this system works is because normally they have a 5-20% chances of getting the item there working for.

The system that Anet uses gives people a .01% chance to get the item that is used to craft that end game item. This does not feel like progression this just feel’s like blind luck. Then to add to it they need to craft other materials that are completely RNG. The entire system is extremely unrewarding because its luck based. There is very little skill involved in getting a legendary… in fact there is zero skill.

I personally think Anet is trying to be to different with there game.

I just wanted to add I ended up using the mystic forge to get my bolt. I got my precursor zap on my first try. I am not someone who has thrown globs of money at the mystic forge and is bitter.

I am not fond of either idea really I think ascended weapons and armor are a step in the right direction. Sadly this step was just a drop in the pool when it comes to over all end game content. Game’s are made and broken on there end game content. The super casual’s and casuals will play a very small factor in decisions Anet makes. They dont rank up enough play time over all to influence things enough. Where your normal, semi hardcore, hardcore player’s are going to be the ones making sure everything run’s smoothly.

Think about how many successful guilds are run by causal or semi causal players?
How about Good World vs World Commanders?
How about Good Temple Commanders in Orr?

All these things make the game far more enjoyable for everyone. There not something a causal or semi casual could do successfully.

Guy’s the more I read thought this the more I think the game was optimized around older lower grade hardware. Assuming no one is trolling and that’s a huge assumption on the internet. The stats that look to get the best performance seem to be people with mid grade systems that are 2-3 year’s old. That would make since if they did that but they should have still optimized the game for new computers as the year went along.

Steam OS

My guess is no they most likely will not support Steam OS in the traditional since. The new Steam OS is based off Linux thus the reason I say there will be no support. What you will most likely be able to do is stream your GW2 from your PC to the Steam OS box you have setup.

Chance’s are that any non Linux gaming title will not natively work on a PC running Steam OS.

Like so many other’s I am eagerly awaiting the day I can ditch my Window’s for Linux/Mac setup.

I am currently running the following specs and get insane lag during major event’s on max setting’s.

Intel I5 2500k OC to 4.0ghz Processor
16 gigs of DDR3 Memory
256 gb Samsung 840 pro SSD Harddrive
MSI AMD HD 7870 Graphics card

all teamed up on a Z77 gigabyte motherboard.

My spec’s while not top of the line are not slouching either and will lay waste to 90% of the system’s this game is run on. I have to agree there is room lots of room to optimize the game.

My best guess as to why this and a lot of other updates are being put on hold are because of the 2 week living story updates. There has yet to be a 2 week update that does not come with multiple game breaking bugs.

An honest conversation about concerns

I think what your trying to say op is there is no end game content. I have to agree I have gotten my legendary. I have my dungeon master from beating ever single dungeon in the game. I have a ascended weapon that I recently crafted. I also have a fractals level high enough to access all rewards. There is nothing left in the game other then my friends and guild.

This current living story content does feel like fillers. The story line with Scarlet feel’s like a bleach filler arc. What I mean by that is you watch it just cause its something. In the end you know it has nothing to do with the story and will have almost no character progression.

I think about the only thing Anet can do at this point is release a expansion and work on some decent permanent end game content. I think a new dungeon smiler to Arah needs to be release ever 3-4 months. They also need to look into some real instance raiding that will keep people in the game longer.

They also need to take a long hard look at farming. Personally I find the only way’s to make money in the game are as follows

Play the Auction house
Play the Mystic forge
Buy Gem’s Convert them to Gold
Dungeon grind

There is not really any great way to grind money or mats with the diminishing returns system the game has. There is no way to craft for money either.

I prefer more “static” content my self such as a real instance raid I can do with my guild. Maybe a few more new dungeons that are not removed after a month. I still not really sure why they yanked Aetherblades Retreat after a month. It was 100% functioning content that could have added to the game nicely.

I think someone else said there tired of the crafting updates. I have to agree crafting only goes so far. Seriously who is going to grind months and months for a accessory?
