Who would have known that people who’d been playing for over a year would care so much about the 1-10 levelling experience?
…Oh I see.
It’s key farming, right?
I never key farmed. I just like playing the maps and exploring. Creating an alt requires me to be invested in the 1-80 leveling so any part I’m not happy with usually means I will not have a fun time leveling. I like the game and would like to see it fun and successful. I’m not sure that is where ANet is trying to go with it though.
OTR
My thoughts after taking my level 8 alt out… it is easier to level but it is not recommended to take a pre-patch character under level 10 out. I was missing skills that I knew I had previously and it took some adjustment. I do not get why nodes are in hiding until a certain level though. They were just there before and it wasn’t obnoxious or anything.
I have a problem with them changing the heart requirements or the heart locations (such as one in Wayfarer’s is no longer there) without telling players what was changed. Does it matter in the great scheme of things? Probably not. However not mentioning changes to the hearts or the hiding of nodes is still bad form.
The TP is… interesting? I really am unsure about it. It took me a bit to figure out how to sell because it gave me the option to list it versus just selling it to someone looking to buy. I wasn’t expecting that and had to read the screen very carefully. The true test is when I need to sell multiple items and if I get halted after 3 or not. My preference for the old UI may just be that I am used to it and feel less likely to get ripped off using it. ymmv
The other issue is the requirement to backtrack across a map to get skill points. I am not clear why we can’t just gather the skill points as we go. This insistence that we bypass and go back is a bit counterproductive.
OTR
Playing a toon under level 10 was interesting. I walked away with the distinct impression that veteran players will have a harder time coming to terms with what has been taken away than new players will have learning the ropes.
My toon was level 8 before the patch. Coming back I missed the note that I would not have my F2 pet skill available nor would I have half my downed skills available to me. On the one hand it irritated me because my playstyle had been disrupted. On the other, I adjusted my playstyle (though I still hate it).
I’m not convinced that ANet is accomplishing what they stated they wished to accomplish but I will never see the game the way a new player will because I will always know how it was vs how it is now.
OTR
If you know Queensdale, there’s some mushrooms in the bandit caves and once you get to the first centaur/skritt area, there’s wood and ore there.
Hmmm. My toon was level 8 and so it appears I was grandfathered in to see the nodes. I did get the full set of gathering tools upon hitting level 9. The husband created a new toon tonight and he does not see any nodes currently.
You can dodge from the start of character creation. There’s no disabling of this ever and there’s even a new little area for people to practice dodging.
I did get the dodge story/event thing showing up but it is not clear (at least for me) what I am supposed to do with it. I would have expected a bit more clarity on where to go with that but perhaps I have knocked it out of whack having the level I do for my character. But yes I did note you can still dodge.
The first condition I encountered was from a skritt around level 7ish.
They might want to clarify their patch notes then. I tend to think of low level areas as the initial starting maps however I was able to get conditions once I hit a level 10 area.
I don’t feel it’s gotten any easier or harder really. It’s just more streamlined, more clear explanations and some actual useful rewards upon leveling. So it’s just different, not easier in my humble opinion.
It felt more difficult to me primarily because I had had the skills available to me and then suddenly did not. I think to test this out thoroughly I am going to have to create a whole new one from scratch. I am not enamored with it but I think veteran players may get a bit more irritated to not have things available that were previously available to them. New players will not know the difference though.
Additional notes:
The loss of my pet skill after having had it was a mite bit annoying. As was the loss of two of my downed skills (one being the pet healing).
No skill challenges starting off requires backtracking across a map. I really cannot see that being appealing to people but I may be wrong.
OTR
So did they hide gathering nodes until a certain level? It is coming out that they did which speaks to a dumbing down of the game versus appealing to casual players. I have a level 8 toon that I have been holding in reserve for this patch. However I am going to be a bit miffed if I can’t gather from nodes in the area since I already have the components on hand.
Based on the number of players that do not understand dodging, I’m not too upset they included something based on that in the game. I am a little confused why they would remove chances to practice it though in the beginner areas.
Removing conditions would also negate the ability for someone to get condition remove in that area of the map.
Removing bundles goes back to the whole catering to the lowest common denominator.
The whole beginning area wasn’t that hard of a run. The biggest complaint could be the level flow which was worse on some starting maps than others. I’m just not sure what ANet is attempting to accomplish here.
OTR
I get it on some level. You need the revenue gains from the new players and are hoping to mitigate some of the less desirable changes you did that adversely impact the leveling process. Understood.
However keeping current players (and revenue generators) happy and interested is usually far easier than banking a potential one time (or repeat) investment. I note usually because I suspect that some of what is reasonably being asked for is not on the list of things to do ever and other items are just flat out idiotic.
The problem lies in ANet’s ongoing need to dumb down the game. Many of us play MMORPGs because of the challenge and the freedom. Dumbing it down is obnoxious at best and a slap in the face at worst. The problem also lies in the lack of clarity in what is being done and the deliberately vague wording that is misleading and not addressed when called upon.
This particular update I am “eh” about. Some things might be neat in a fluff sort of way. I’m holding a toon at below level 10 right now (and with an untouched personal story) to test out this new leveling bit. The WvW stuff might be promising but will be hard to say until it is live tested. The WvW seasons are doing more to kill WvW and the servers than anything else.
Nothing else really appeals to me. I have map completion and would like to move into new areas that are not restricted on where one can go.
OTR
Well, I hope those who complained about the QD trail are happy with the new patch. Sadly for new players there will be fewer, if any experienced players in the starter areas to help new players, by answering questions, explaining game, etc.
As for the trolls they will simply move on to other areas, to be sure, or stay in the starter areas to spread their vile. New players will learn of the meta boss zerg (GW2 style play nowadays) on their own if they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I really do feel sorry for the brand new players, they will be quite lost, whether in QD or WF, even MP.
I think more vet players will end up in Queensdale now to help the new players. It isn’t like none of us every pay a visit for low level mat farming. The benefit is that we aren’t having to shout down people being rude because someone took out their next champ or insulting what they perceive to be a stupid question.
OTR
This is a terrible move. I use those for dailies and monthlies, usually just one circuit of boar>troll>oak before going on to better things. And it’s not just Queensdale, either; it’s ALL starting zones. If they really want people off the train, then just don’t give loot after the first time.
The other starting zones were nowhere near as bad as Queensdale which is why Queensdale is the standard people speak about. Queensdale was the only place I actually saw a consistent champ train in the starter zones and I’m actually a little sad that they managed to ruin it for everyone else. Of course ANet had to treat the starter zones the same otherwise the champ train would have just moved to a new starter zone.
How about move to a higher level map to do those dailies and monthlies? With the Megaserver you will always have someone on the map with you. I believe in you. You can separate yourself from that train and find a new train addiction on another map.
OTR
Good. Now maybe that zone will be more civil.
No, it will probably be pretty dead now and all those L10 new players asking questions probably won’t get a response.
Maybe. But there wont be 100 people in there every minute swearing at and insulting those same L 10 new players for being “noobs” and turning them off to the game altogether.
I ran the train for my monthly and such for several months. Verbal abuse was rare and when it happened it was because of a few people purposely griefing the train. From all my time running the train I can say from my experience that new players in chat that asked questions got answers and often offers to help them with skill points and what not.
Now not so much. I’m rather surprised that people are supporting yet another nerf. Over the past year and a half or so several areas got nerfed and the forum was up in arms.
Your favorite farming area might be next…..
My favorite farming area was already ruined with the Megaserver idea.
However I can tell you that anytime I went into Queensdale, there was plenty of rude behavior and that was before griefing took place. The other maps did not have the level of rudeness that I would see in Queensdale. I would avoid running that map as much as I could because of the players there.
So I am glad your experience was positive. I found the whole thing to be toxic and misleading to new players as it encouraged a zerg mentality and did not encourage people to actually learn their classes.
OTR
This was needed so badly. Maybe now they will actually play some of the higher level maps and kill some champs there.
Oh wait, that would mean actually working for their loot now wouldn’t it…
I might actually be able to go into Queensdale now. The other maps weren’t as bad as the train in Queensdale was.
OTR
Would love to know how to resolve it as well. Started seeing serious lagging and disconnects after reset on Friday. It has been a consistent problem in GW2 since although I have noted that late evening EST is worse than any other time period.
Other games are not impacted so it appears to be a GW2 issue entirely.
OTR
My issue with the megaserver concept before launch was that it destroyed the concept of home server unity. Many of the servers have their own forums and promote it within map along with the various VoIP system they use. This is not possible to do now since anyone from any server could be on the map.
However I was willing to give it a chance in hopes that it would not destroy my love of the game.
So far, I am not impressed. Contested waypoints are an issue that need to be addressed. What is the point of having waypoints if you can’t use them to go into another map. If your guild is running in Frostgorge and want you to run with them, how do you get there exactly if you don’t load into Frostgorge right away (this is after megaserver rollout on all maps)?
I get that others may want to play with other people and that megaservers are supposed to provide that type of game experience. However you have left out a large part of your user base with this move. I don’t wish to play with tons of other people. I avoided maps like Queensdale for that very reason.
If you insist on destroying the quality of gameplay on the PvE maps then please consider putting the cities as home server bases. Or take the suggestion put forth and give us an option to not play on the Megaserver.
OTR
Much of what is being complained about isn’t really a surprise. They warned about the tonics previously as well as other aspects.
However, they also said that all previously unlocked skins would be available and they aren’t. I am missing whole sets of armor that I know my characters wore and so by ANet’s definition, would be unlocked. Cultural human armor is missing as well as every single PvP armor gotten.
I also dislike the rename of my duelist armor. Please reconsider the rename that was done for some of these armor pieces. Sneakthief? Honestly? They aren’t the only class that uses this armor.
I would like the karma armor pieces I’ve unlocked and the cultural armor pieces to be available. As I never bothered with costumes I can’t get too worked up about that. The functional aspects though would be nice to have since that was what was promised.

While not a member, I’ve had the pleasure of running with CoSa during their raids. They are a guild community that cares about our server. They have strong leaders and equally strong community members that inspire other players.

SF has some dedicated roaming groups and no one is mandated to zerg anything. I promise
An unfortunate side effect for some of our more well known guilds is that people latch on to them when they see them running around however we do have dedicated WvW guilds that are smaller and prefer to be havoc groups.
I can also say that our server community is strong and our main goal is stable growth, however long that may take us. We like our WvW fun with some serious on the side.
If you are interested in joining a solid fun loving community please check out our site at http://www.sorrowsfurnace.com. I am available here, in game or on the site if you have any questions.
I hope you find what you are looking for.

I can say that SF does not have a monopoly on roaming. We started moving into roaming a while ago and have been finessing it as we go. Our WvW guilds love to have fun and make an effort to work with all who come into WvW.
I noticed you mentioned free transfers and right now we would be a discount transfer. Our objective is stable growth for our server. If you are interested in helping us achieve that goal and to have fun roaming, please check out http://www.sorrowsfurnace.com. I can be reached here, in game or on the site if you have any additional questions.
May wherever you land bring you the fights you desire.

Sorrows Furnace is always happy to have dedicated WvWers that know their way around the battlefield. We have some dedicated WvW guilds that do large zergs, medium groups and havoc groups. For us, WvW is a mix of serious and fun.
If you are interested, I invite you to check out http://www.sorrowsfurnace.com. You can reach me here, in game or on the site itself if you have questions or would like more details.

It really is a simple thing. You move or get an arrow to the face or some other sharp object to the body. We aren’t that particular.
If you blunder into our traps and get eaten by our pets then we will laugh because obvious bait was obvious.
And really… bearbow cuz why not? Go roll a bearbow ranger. I would love to see a WvW day of bearbow rangers because it would be sheer ridiculousness.

Inexperienced players should really stop with the “NERF THIS GUY’S PROFESSION BECAUSE I SUCK AT COUNTERING A ZERKER”. Don’t make a balance requesting thread unless you have a minimum of 8k AP or something.
I have 10k achievement points and I still can’t get an actual useful strategy for pets, specially that bear, only one who tried to do something is that “Offair” dude but I believe he’s trolling since most of his replies have been really negative on the thread.
Do we unlock some sort of advantage by having those points? Why is that a requirement?
Well at least the devs have now seen the post and hopefully in the future balance patch this pet madness will end.
Im not negative, neither im trolling, However, i think people whining about pets being overpowered are the ones that trolling , since its a broken AI. And like Allie said, go to rangers cdi and say they are overpowered, but dont be surprised if the whole ranger community laughs right in your face
Sunshine… did you actually read any of this or just individual responses? The whole thread was in jest. As a ranger, I can assure you it was in jest.
However #HammerTrain2013 was not in jest. That was srs bizness

Not sure what is better, the obvious hyperbolic sarcasm or the many folks whose heads it flew clean over.

Hi! relax guys. i know that the bearbow rangers are OP atm but i heard this till be the pet for next patch
its called a rhinark
I must have that pet. The terror I could inspire in WvW would make it so worthwhile.

I dust off my ranger to play for 30 minutes in wvw and this happens.
Fear the OP bearbow. I’m sorry for unleashing its terror on you all. That’s why I never play bearbow normally, because it’s too OP and we can have a fair fight with less OP characters.
In the interest of fairness, Brb rolling heal sig warrior.
This is why I don’t run bearbow. People run in the other direction making it very hard to find fights. Lately though they just run no matter the pet that is up. I never understood it. No guilds want us rangers and no one wants to play with us either. It makes this Sylvari ranger very sad.

Any post that argues rangers are overpowered in any aspect of the game, is trolling. If you seriously think rangers are overpowered compared to other proffs, I really have to wonder how much time you have been in wvw.
Well I’ve done ranger in WvW quite a bit and have the battle scars to prove it. Or I did. Being Sylvari means that things grow back just fine. Still bitter about the big dude with the big sword that chopped off my head branches. My pet fixed him right up.
Was that you King?

As a ranger in WvW and PvE, I was rather enjoying the whole “Rangers don’t suck” vibe of this post.

Not sure if this has came up in the past, but I have been super frustrated with Ranger Pets.
I feel as though Ranger pets are overpowered, their skills always hit me, and when I kill the pet the Ranger just send another after me LEAVE ME ALONE.
I feel as though pets should be made to be more inconsequential in WvW.
No they are not overpowered they work just fine and are a major part of the class and when your fighting a ranger try killing the ranger instead of the pet cause when the ranger dies so does the pet
Not sure if trolling…

There appears to be a delay on actions and consequences in the game right now. I have attempted to initiate combat only to stand there like nothing was happening and then suddenly die while burning. Once dead I was unable to waypoint for a few minutes. I lost hit points standing on a ledge which I can only assume was a delay from a fall or something that had taken place earlier.
I went to complete a skill challenge in Skrittsburg only to find the skill challenge wasn’t there and yet an enemy who also wasn’t there was beating up on me. A definite skill challenge to fight a truly invisible enemy

I for one appreciated the double attack of ET and Yak’s at Garrison. You definitely kept us scrambling in our BL on reset.

SF has weak time slots for 20hours per day. Then again, it is true, SF only has SF to blame for losing this given the opportunity we had with them playing terribly all week, we should have gotten at least 20k lead in points if people would all get teamspeak on SF and work together instead of following paranoid psychos that think other people want to try and “own” the server.
You realize that you have lumped our entire WvW group into this category right? I’m sure you do. You strike me as a fairly intelligent person if just a wee bit obsessed with ragging on the server you are currently on. You have spent the better part of this thread spewing hate at the server you are on and you wonder why no one is falling for these pearls of wisdom…
And before you strain yourself trying to associate me with the ones that you like to trash… I’m the nasty little PUGger that won’t join a “real” WvW guild.
omg a voice of reason. what are you doing on SF? But to be fair FC also have dumb commanders spouting crap like “hey puggers make yourself usefull and take camps it’s good for ppt” such a shame that ppl look down on roaming groups and roamers because they do make a big difference.
I’m on SF silly because it is awesome. Have you not been following what clint has been saying?
Everyone has shortsighted commanders. It is the way of servers.
BTW, nice job yanking first from us. Hold it tight now

Speaking from the perspective of someone from SF that was on our BL for part of the evening:
ET came out to play in our BL more than a few times and made us scramble more than once to hold on to a keep. Those were some good times!
I also remember when we faced DR and NSP (I think) and each of you rolled in with waves of people to the point that we had a queue. I believe one server took east and one server took west of our BL that reset. We probably complained about the population overload that y’all had back then too.
OTR
Appreciated the match ups against ET last night in our BL. Mad props to [BS] for keeping it interesting at north camp

Just popped in to give EDGE a shout out. Loved the early match up at watercamp. It was a lot of fun. Look forward to doing it again sometime.

We are on Sorrow’s and run an open policy that no one has to rep 100%. Cross alliances for us would mean that you or someone from your guild would have a single alt in ours and one or more of us would have a single alt in yours. The idea being that we can all flip back and forth to assist as needed.
Currently we are only PvE. Our guild name is Order of the Ram. You can message me here or in game for more info.

I honestly cannot wait for the option to choose. The number of trolls out there making sure that NPCs do not die have tripled in areas for those that are trying to do the healing. Dailies used to be fun and now it seems every 30 seconds someone is asking someone else to die for them, where there are veterans or what events are up.
Combo kills are no longer a requirement thankfully. The healing needs to go. By the time I get to an area where people have gone down the general map has irritated me so badly that I am sorely tempted to leave them. I’m boycotting the dailies every time the healing one comes up. The laurels are nice but I can live without them.
OTR
You can also get it simply by switching alts.
OTR
You really don’t have to arrange anything. Show up to some events (as you would have most likely under the old structure) and odds are you are going to rez someone or combo with someone. It really is not that much more complicated or different then what it was before. It doesn’t impact how you choose to play (solo or otherwise).
OTR
One is over by the dome. I think there is another by Crossroads Haven but don’t quote me on it. I could have the location wrong.

Either broken or ANet is late. Most likely late since they tend to that but it is a close tie with broken,
What to do: Start at Horncall WP and travel the road up through Breakneck Pass heading towards Dolyak Pass WP. You want to repair all signs, relight campfires, pick up mementos from dead refugees (give to collector) and heal wounded refugees. There are events that pop up involving killing ice elementals for ice cubes. Once you do the pass once, switch to another alt and do it again. Once you get 75 points you will get the title and you need to make sure your email is clear and you may need to rezone or relog to get the ingame mail reward.

There are parts when you run through that are horrible weather and have steam vents coming up from the ground.
