I posted about this a couple days ago, as well. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Cannot-target-Giant-Jungle-Wurm
For the second time when trying to do this event, I was unable to target the giant jungle wurm. It was killed quickly, but there was enough time to test that neither clicking on the wurm nor tapping tab would allow me to target it. This time, I was doing it with some guildies (nec, ele, ranger), and at least two of them had the same issue. The necro was able to get credit by using wells, but also could not target the boss.
As a side note, the wurm goes down faster than the pre-event blight creatures, so I think he might need some attention.
I added health and stamina bar placement just to put it on the list, but those feel like more cosmetic changes than gameplay experience altering changes. I certainly think there is a time and a place for those recommendations, but for this thread let’s just stay focused on the chore mechanics that could be improved and ways that they can be adjusted.
I like the recommendations about the f1 key being more versatile. I certainly think there is something more to be done there with it. When we talk about these things internally, I will be sure that we take a long look at all the F-key commands and see what improvements can be made. I personally favor toggles that allow you more control (what if F1 was both “attack” and “return!” that got toggled? What does that free up? Could F5 be a thing?). There are lots of options to explore.
There have been some calls for perma-stowed pets, and while I have said this in other areas I will say it again here. I don’t think we will let you perma-stow pets – the main reason being we want the player to be interacting with the pet, and the pet to be part of the identity of the player. The role of ranger is to to have a pet in our game, and with that comes a bit of extra micromanagement that comes with the package. Right now the micromanage is difficult and more tools are desired, and I honestly feel that once we make micromanaging pets easier, more responsive, and better in general that players won’t mind that they don’t have perma-stow capabilities.
As far as other things to do with F keys, I’ve been playing a ranger since launch, and have been really bad about using the F keys. My fault, didn’t keybind them to something easier to hit sooner. As I start to though, I find one thing I’d really like to do would be to be able to direct my pet to hit a different target than I do. F1 directs it to attack the same target I am, but sometimes I really need it to hit the trash mob the champ just spawned, etc. I really like the idea of making attack/return a toggle, could you then make F3 a targeted attack? Something with a target like we use for ground target skills, and we could paint a new enemy for the pet to attack. It could also be useful to keybind the active/passive button, which currently I have to hit with my mouse.
Just wanted to share a different experience I had last night. I was playing in Sparkfly Fen, but had already killed Teq once so was messing around looking for another group event to do. Found the Ash Horizon just as Teq spawned, and even though I was on the complete opposite side of the map, I lagged. Horribly—skills wouldn’t trigger, screen stuttered, the works. It was exactly like the lag you get while trying to kill the dragon, except I wasn’t anywhere near him and there . The person I was playing with experienced the same lag, to the point where we had to leave the map and complete our dailies elsewhere.
I guess I’ve never been in a different section of the map while a major event was going on, and wondered if others had experienced this and or reported it. So figured I’d make a note now, as I didn’t report it in game last night.
My one complaint is there is not near enough food or beverages on the tables. We now know what is wrong. Arenanet is starving these poor people!
(This being said by a woman who sent homemade chocolate cake with her boyfriend to a job interview with the encouragement of: “Be yourself, but always bring cake. They remember the one who brought cake.”)
Did he get the job?
on topic: awesome video. I didn’t actually know that GW1 classes had gender specific dances. Fun!
I decided to peek last night and see where my lvl 80 ranger was in the storyline. I was surprised and pleased to learn that I’m only one step from the final encounter with Zhaitan.
I was less pleased to see the wiki page for Arah storymode has a note on it that says it bugs 99% of the time. Is this still true? I’m a little upset to find that I can’t complete the story of the game, after playing so long to get here. I’m hoping that’s just an old note that hasn’t been removed, but figured it made sense to check before I went to the trouble of finding a group to do the dungeon with. Thanks.
What does ‘completing’ a dungeon mean? Do the story mode? Do all explorable paths? I’ve never done dungeons, 5 seems doable if it’s SM or if one explorable counts, but if I have to do all 3 explorable paths I’d like to know so I can write off the monthly now.
So yeah, still WTB solo options for the monthlies; if WvW was offering me alternative monthlies to get laurels, I might feel differently but it’s kinda the redheaded stepchild of GW2 atm.
The monthly shouldn’t force people to do either WvW or dungeons if they don’t enjoy them; they should give us say 6-10 options, and let us pick to complete the 4 we’d enjoy the most.
Seconded! Please don’t make me do dungeons or WvW, especially now that I would like to get laurels.
One of the devs’ stated goals is to allow people to play the way they want, offering rewards in only one area of the game is very much against this policy. With the new laurels I can finally get ascended gear playing my way, so thanks for that.
Hm. looking at threads about those I think you’re right. Bummer. Wish they’d go back to the halloween method of mini distribution, I really don’t like these RNG based ones. And that snowman is cute.
I understand they need people to spend money. But there is a lot of paid content with this release. I was planning to spend $20 of my christmas money on a costume and 10 pack of the wintersday mystery boxes to get a chance at those minis, but I’m seriously reconsidering it based on this.
Well that’s really disappointing. Thanks for the replies.
So in reading through things on the forum here, I have more questions.
Though there are 5 city stops and 5 minis, we only get enough mystical cogs to make 2 or 3?
Will I still get 100 cogs a day for doing each city instance the first time or am I out of luck because I was out of town on those days?
Is there any way to make all 5 event minis? Or does getting the complete set require spending gems?
If spending gems is required to get them all, I will be very disappointed. I realize minis are not required for gameplay but it seems kind of cruel to give out plans for them but restrict how many of them you can make. One of each per account I could see, but to have to choose 2 of the 5 models is just mean. Merry Christmas, look at the things you must spend more money to get! Bah.
great, thanks for the info!
I was out of town while Tixx was making his tour of cities, so didn’t get a chance to do those events on the original days. If I go to him in Lion’s Arch and complete them now, will I still get the mini frame, or do I just have to buy them at this point?
I’m curious about this too. It doesn’t seem to be over though—there’s been another mini spike and crash since then. While fluctuations are normal these random seeming jumps are a bit strange. When the spikes occur after new things are released, they make some sense, but I don’t think that’s the case here.
Maybe you should check the Gem Store now…
Can I just say, that despite being glad about this, there’s something you forgot to test?
That is, you can’t see sylvari glow in the re-customization window.
I tried changing my Guardian’s appearance but had to cancel because I couldn’t see what the glow effect I picked did.
This is not just a recustomization thing, I remember when making my sylvari that I had no idea what the ‘glow’ section meant.
So having been through 2 events now in GW2 I wanted to provide my feedback comparing the two and analyzing what I felt worked or needed improvement. To give some idea of my point of reference, I’m a casual player, I don’t really do dungeons or pvp and am mostly interested in PvE.
Things that worked:
Overall the scavenger hunts have been pretty fun. The reward from the halloween hunt was much better than the reward from the lost shores hunt, though the lost shorts hunt(s) were shorter and had some other issues. I would suggest that things like Noll and Canach use the lovely instancing feature that is featured in personal storylines. I enjoy learning the backstory and discovering new things about the event. I do wish they were a little more possible to do without consulting online guides, though.
Mad King Dungeon was a great boss event. It was challenging without being impossible, and didn’t take forever so it felt fun and I ended up doing it a second time with one of my alts. The 5 person party instance helped it to feel like everyone was contributing to the fight, and avoided any issues with rendering enemies or other players. Additionally, the respawn set up allowed you to effectively use the waypoint. The combination of puzzle and fight was well balanced.
The Labyrinth was also quite fun to run around in, rewards felt right for the effort I was putting in, and it didn’t get dull over the course of the event.
The costume brawl was enjoyable. I especially appreciated how flexible the time commitment was—it was easy to jump in while waiting for a friend to show up, or to brawl for an hour at a stretch.
I also enjoyed the teasers for Lost Shores—the signs around lion’s arch, etc. Very nice touch.
Things that didn’t work so well:
The clocktower puzzle. I don’t really focus on jumping puzzles, so this isn’t really my thing, but I gave up after one attempt and the flood of people blocking my view. I’m not that good at jumping puzzles to begin with, and absolutely horrible at them when someone else is jumping along with me. Between the people and the timed nature of it, I was done at the first pause.
Southsun cove area difficulty vs reward. I’m not sure how much time I spend killing Karka in the area. I did not get many drops that weren’t grey ‘junk’ items. I know for sure I have 5 karka shells, and never saw anything above a green drop from any creature there. I never managed to fill my inventory once. Given the amount of time it took to kill the Karka, this was very disappointing. I don’t think I’ll be going back for a while.
One time events in general. I enjoyed the finale events in GW1 that took place every three hours . I understand there’s a push towards having characters only do these things once in GW2, and I’m fine with that. But I do like to have some flexibility as to when I attend, and to be frank your servers don’t seem up to having the entire population of a server converge on a single location all at once. Spreading out the events but limiting them to once per account would make it easier on both the players and your servers.
On a related note, the finale event yesterday was simply just not fun. It took much too long, most of the time I could not even see the enemies that were attacking due to culling issues, and I did not get credit for tagging enemies that I know I was managing to hit. Prior to the final reward, I would have said that I died to often and repair costs were too high, but the value of the things in the chest covered that pretty nicely. So thanks for that. But in general, please do try to avoid events that take more than say, an hour at a time. And as noted, please allow multiple start times, though I’m happy to be limited to being rewarded for an event a single time. Mostly, the lack of being able to see enemies (or aoe target circle warnings) made the fight seem less a test of skill and more luck of where the enemy popped out from invisibility.
Communication regarding start times and places for limited time events really needs to be clearer. For the event yesterday we had a lively guild discussion as to whether we were supposed to be starting from lion’s arch or southsun, and if southsun cove, then where in the area? Clearly the attack was planned well in advance, those explosives had to come from somewhere. It’s obvious the Lionguard knew where they were starting from, why didn’t we?
Finally, the pacing of the halloween event (new phase every 2-3 days) was much better than that of the Lost Shores event. Lost Shores felt rushed—who rebuilds a city in 2 days, or manages to plan an assault in that amount of time? Logistically it made it difficult to complete the events, especially with the technical issues that cropped up. Allowing 2-3 days per phase would alleviate the pressure both on players and on developers faced with inevitable glitches.
i was wondering that too, metalman. I could find the quaggan, but the items I was supposed to bring her were not anywhere to be seen (this is on Magumma)
4). More informed kharma purchase decisions when you complete a heart and oh! Mangos! Do I need mangos?
I’m a bit ambivalent on being able to pull things out of the bank from the field, but I have to say I would love to know what I have stashed, cooking material-wise, for this precise reason. So even just a read-only view would be great (or a stock list?)
I would also like a place to stash hats or costumes that I don’t want to currently wear. The festival NPC from GW1 was a great help in storing my hats, so that I could wear them when appropriate and not worry about filling up my inventory. A collectible section for them would be fine too (or a closet?)
This past week I did Battle of Claw Island and Killing Fields with a friend. Both were frustratingly difficult. We both had characters over level 60 and I have no idea how a single player would be able to do them. Especially since these missions had ZERO drops from mobs, dying so many times and incurring that much repair cost was very much not fun. Then upon completion (after we looked up where we had to be killing things for Claw Island) we got crap items and 5 bags at the end of the mission. So we lost money doing both missions -.-
So yeah, exploring areas out in the world? lots of fun, enjoying the dynamic events! missions? really dreading having to do more of them to get to the high level areas.
