Letter to Santa Dev for future WvW updates

Dear Santa Dev,
I know you are busy with Xmas stuff, but mean children want cookies too….

Talking seriously and out of the metaphor, I know Devs are working on updates for WvW, but since we dont know what these updates will be about i feel the need to write this down…
I think many people feel like WvW is not much rewarding… you might say “hell, you can help your server to be the best!”, yep, ok…. but not every server will be the best and not everyone who loves pvp actually care about his server rank. (Personally i’d rather have some really nice battles in a low rank server than smashing emtpy keeps in the top ranked server)
Seems like its missing a long-term reward to keep ppl focused on WvW. For example this long-term thing in PvE are legendaries, ascended, cool skins, world completion… something that pvers work on for a decent amount of time so then they can show to others what they could achieve with their efforts.
All this work fine cause it is on a personal level, while WvW only has the “world-wide” level…. this is too wide for most ppl, and makes them think it wont really change much for them to go or not to go play WvW.

So Server pride is fine, but we need something to focus on, on player and guild level, something really simple would be a WvW rank…. thats something really easy but can still make a difference for many ppl. There are way crappier games that could keep ppl there for ages just cause they wanted to rank up over and over…

The system is already there, cause there is already a player kill counter, a dolyak kill counter, and so on…. in the achievement page, it would be good to gain rank points that sum up leading to different titles on the way (like it is in spvp with gladiator-mercenary-avenger etc…) so that once you get the title you can choose to “equip” it and show off a symbol. Then… if you want this to be really cool, the amount of rank points gained should scale according to the situation…
for example:
1v1 kill = good amount of rank points
zerg killing 1 = almost no rank points
And then badges (oh my god) let them drop directly in our inventories! and put in some really cool stuff to buy with those, either skins or upgrades or whatever…
So this would be cool, but just for personal use, it wont be of much help for the server…. so what about giving more importance also to solo players or little guild-groups that dont want to stick with the zerg for whatever reason ?

As things are now ppl mostly tend to run after zergs… ad if there is no zerg on their faction they will just logg off from WvW, starting a loop that lead a map to be empty and dominated by another server until some commanders with their own zerg get into that map to take back some stuff.

The idea is that kills should be really more important… point system could be revised so that also kills get into counts, and to make it somehow fair, how much a kill is worth could be scaled based on the numbers that faction has (hint: outmanned buff … ). This is still pvp so kills deserve some impact on the score. This way little groups will have their chance to contribute to raise server score.
For example:
Server A got a 70 men zerg, server B got a total of 30 ppl in that map, so server B cant really win an open fight against server A, so they split up in 6 groups and start to starve Server A, killing dolyaks, getting camps, killing little groups of reinforcements running back to a siege. I did this stuff all the time when HoD was dominating, but sadly this wasnt granting almost any point to our server cause doesnt matter how many waves of them we killed…. what only matter with the actual system is who got what at the tick.
So, along with these changes, some more objectives for small groups would be a good add.
Oh… and since are settign up all this nice reward system why not putting also Commander tag into a meritocracy system instead of a gold-farming system ? A WvW Commander should be someone that knows how WvW dynamics work, not someone that knows when Orr events start or stuff like that…

To be realistic i’m hoping for custom spvp matches (i have waited for them since beta :\)….
I hope we will also have some new WvW content really worth the wait.
I dont expect any class nerf, cause they are good as they are, just need to have all traits and skill fixed.

The thing that disappointed me most about GW2 is how they seem to forgot all those wonderfull words they used to advertise the game:
“no impossible rng loot from dungeon that you need to grind forever to get what you need, instead we’ll have token system so that you cna just buy what you need”
something like that was said, which is true for other dungeons, why shouldnt this be true for rings too ?
Actually the whole Ascended thing doesnt fit what gw2 was promised to be…
seems like a new dictator came into Anet studios saying "screw all these new ideas, lets do the same old kitten-stuff! "

As many already stated what is missing now is an incentive to single players and to guilds as whole to take active part to WvW, and i think its not even hard at all to get there since there are already really good basis.
There are some crappy games f2p not-even-comparable-to GW2 that has been played for years and years doing the same old pvp action every day, and yet ppl are there still doing the same…. why ? ….for pvp rank.
Why is there a pvp rank in gw2 ?
People playing online games need a way to show off their toons, this happens with cool skins, but for now thats pve or spvp stuff, the same should be in WvW.
Just put in a pvp rank displayed aside of the name and many ppl will go play WvW to increase that.
To this you can add some rank-related gears with some cool skins based on pvp rank. I mean skins as cool as those you get from dungeons, but some you can buy with badges and also need a specific rank to be bought.

This pvp rank could be calculated based on the existing WvW achievements, something like this:
+ 1 point for each dolyak killed (ah…. dolyak should be harder to kill, and those useless caravan guards should be really much more worth it)
+ 2 points for each player kills
+ 5 points for each supply camp
+ 15 points for each tower captured
+ 20 points for each keep
+ 35 for castles

so then you could have ranks like:

500 – soldier
1500 – “somethign better than soldier”
3000 – “insert cool name here”
5000 – “much more cool name here”
.
.
.
xxx – “Army General”
(xxx – ) – “High Commander” ? with it maybe granting a commander book without spending gold…

And this was the part for personal reward, then something should be done for guilds…

[Suggestion] - Torch's "The Prestige"

Instead of this being a channel in which you can’t do anything during without breaking the effect, I would like to suggest the following replacement …

Replace:
“The Prestige” – Disappear in a cloud of smoke, blinding nearby foes. Reappear three seconds later, burning nearby foes.

With:
“The Prestige” -> “Disrepute”
“The Prestige” – Disappear in a cloud of smoke, Blinding nearby foes.
“Disrepute” – Burn nearby Foes.

This will allow you to go the entire 3 seconds with the option of not producing the AE burn at the end … or even throwing a heal on yourself like you can do with other stealth abilities and still end with the AE Burn if you are fast enough.

Totally agree with this suggestion, i couldnt see why a stealth skill should keep us on a channel state. The option to break the stealth to produce the aoe fire is really good, pls do it .

Merging PVP servers (EU,NA,US)

I dont think we need to have the NA mist to be merged with EU mist, but what i would prefer is just the chance to group up with EU players and actually play tournaments with them.
This would be great cause i’m italian but i’m playing in NA server cause my guild is international, mostly from US, but as for now i have no way to play pvp with eu ppl.
Maybe this could be introduced with guest option…

Surely a lot of ppl already wrote what i’m going to state now, but in this occasion i have to raise my voice too…..
I have always been a strong supporter of this game, with all the ppl i know. Like me i think many other bought this game for all promises done about being different from that stat-grinding loop. This patch seems the first step to screw all our dreams…. i mean, we are just 3 months after release and we already see that promise broke ?
Do i have to quote ?

“Rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game”

and of course…

“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative.”

so reading this i can just imagine its the beginning of the end… WoW-kitten-fans are already trolling us and laughing at our betrayed hopes.
Disappointed doesnt give an idea of how i feel….

i know it will be useless, but i still ask you not to ruin this great game completely….you can just add new content without falling in the deadly spiral of stat-grind.

i have to agree so much on how bad targetting system is here…. my problem isnt too much with the target priority on tabbing but mainly with the fact that the target is lost every 2 seconds :\ and what is worst is that i often find my game autotargetting even friendly npc =.=‘’’ seriously, even today in a dungeon i found my target changing from a veteran to the pet of the ranger in my party ……. WHY ? wasnt pressing anything nor tabbing, just using AoE spells, and target switched alone to the pet, many times, other times on party members…. o.0.
The funniest and most annoying case is on my mesmer in spvp….. cause sometimes it targets my own clones =.= …. thats ridiculous really.
Target system need some help… first of all players and npc from same faction should not even be on the targetting options (unless u click on them on purpose), and then target lock should be more solid.

i dont think they are ignoring this issue, maybe they couldnt yet find the source of the problem, but i have to say i was a bit surprised to see paid tournaments without first seeing this bug solved.

I sent a ticket yesterday about this issue: lagging with a 1+ minute delay then “lost connection to the server error” in 95% of the times, in the other 5% i keep a little lag and some minutes later dc anyway (while internet connection is still up and running).

I did system scan with their game advisor and attached it….. the reply i got to that issue is that i dont have SP1 installed and latest catalyst drivers needs it ……
so now, i seriously doubt that graphic card drivers can cause my client to loose connection with the server…. also cause my game just run perfectly with max details…. i can even fraps in the middle of a siege and still keep around 22 fps.
So i’m conducting a little survey among those ppl here experiencing my same problem, just to be sure…. do u have win7 SP1 installed and latest drivers ?

Its definitely a Game problem, not on our end, since many of us are experiencing this lag → total packets freezing → disconnection from the server

I sent a ticket too but i noticed now this topic, so i guess it will take some time before it get fixed :\ hope not too much cause being in a WvW queue for 20 min, then getting in for 10 min and crashing and then have to queue for another 20 min….. isnt funny at all.

Off-hand Sigils

This is a technical question about how sigils on off hand weapons works. For example, i’m using a superior sigil of earth in my main hand weapon, which has 60% chance on crit to add a bleed to the stack.
If i put the same sigil on my offhand weapon will it trigger also for my main hand skills or does each sigil only affect the skills related to the weapon it is linked in ?

Hi, i’m experiencing some serious lag troubles. In many occasion, mainly in crowded area, everything freezes except my toon, and seems like my packets are waiting for every other packet to pass and then maybe they arrive.
Its something seriously annoying cause i’m not able to do WvW most of the times and now i cant even do a dungeon cause i keep getting freezed.
Does anyone has some advices ?

p.s. no its not a pc performace trouble, cause i was used to run perfectly even in the middle of a siege and even frapsing it. It a connection related issue.
