Using well of power to confert self inflicted conditions is a nice idea, but i dont think it is really effective. But if u like wells you could go for a Wellmancer necro, which uses 2/3/4 wells on its utility slots combined with traits that boost wells in order to have some effective AoE and a good survivability.

If want some more hints i can link you a quick build about that.

Ok, i see your point, i didnt play gw1 so i cant say anything about that, but i see that there are many ppl that are still in love with their past game experiences, and cant just appreciate whats new in gw2. Probably, if i played gw1 i would feel the same, but in my gaming experience i had great moments with ppl, and moslty crappy moments with the game itself, so every time i look behind i’m glad of what i have now.

Conquest, it is a mediocre competitive map and straight up bad pug one.

I find this kind of conquest with side ojectives (bosses, trebs, buff) way far from mediocre competitive, in order to win (lets say) a “Temple of the silent storm” match you cant just run around and cap, there is way more depth of play, you gotta choose who to leave defending/roaming and who to send to buffs, cause a bad buffs management lead to a loss. Same goes for treb and so on.

I really dont see why ppl are complaining about this mode, at all.

It’s a downside when it comes to spectating (low suspense, scattered/tough to fallow map control) only at all carried by the combat itself.

i can agree on the scattered action…. not sure about the suspence…. what would you suggest ?

The issue with gameplay is a lack of group dynamic with nothing to replace it.
GW2 cuts out the heart of the MMO genre, and the majority of the teamwork/positioning that innately come from it and the skill cap that fallows.

The game’s gameplay is bad.

This is your opinion, actually i’m playing this game exactly for the gameplay, i love how dynamic it is, and i could never go back to more static “old style” gameplays.

About build diversity, some classes have many options but its true some others dont, this is surely something that can be improved but i dont think its the main problem.

About class balance, this is probably the most delicate problem, its getting a little better, but still its not good enough for all classes, but i belive it will get fine.

About no chances for a comeback in a match….. not true. Thats not easy but its definitely possible, it happened 4 or 5 times to me that my team was 150 points behind…. and ended up winning the match.
Most epic one was 2 days ago, half of the match score was around 120 – 300, final score was 496 – 495, such an intense fight, it was so cool.

About the game not being fun to watch…. again i have to really disagree, i loved to see BLU and grouch shoutcasting recent tournaments, i watched many of them, and i watched many matches between top ranked teams, caus ei find really interesting to see how they set up strategies, how they react to difficult situations.

In conclusion, i think this game can be really competitive, even if it wont be tomorrow, some few class fixes are needed first, and definitely a decent ladder, then it will be the right time for some big tournaments with interesting prizes.

I agree so much that its too easy to get out of Wells, the only way i see to make them effective is to use main hand dagger and immobilize them 4s into a WoS, i find every other well quite useless. Well of corruption does some dmg, boon conversion, but its quite slow to be effective, corrupt boon is way better, then if the immobilze dont land the well would be totally wasted, or if he cleanse it quickly and get out.
Well of darkness would be cool, but its just 5s for a 45s cd, seems just too long.

Forgot one thing, as some mentioned already:

- pets hitting like a truck while their masters are bunker-specced

But pets can hit only 1 target. What’s the problem with the bigger damage compared to every mele weapon that have cleave attaks?

I remember, one day…lost into the mist of the past ppl whining all day for 8-9k backstabs….clearly no problem with a bunker spec dealing 5k+ dmg with high tough and healing (And maybe some cond dmg too), working as all other bunkers right?

I made a ranger today and did some tests with a friend thief. My ranger stats are
3200 armor, 1200 cond. dmg, 940 healing, 16k hp, pet was hitting for about 900-1500 non critical.

He just gave up the fight at a point, he stated that:
placing a backstab was hard as hell cause i had lot of evasion and when he got me right he did less than 4k, whenever he had to stop attacking cause conditions ad pet was killing him, i could refil my hp, while he could get back at best 50%.

The funny thing was when we noticed that his damage on me was slightly more than my pet’s damage on him… LOL

Why should we even play other classes ? Rangers can be bunky, can do condition damage and direct damage with pets, and they got the best heal in game for a teamfight.

Seems like many thought the same, cause last week, there was spirit watch map on tourneys, and it was rare to see a party with less than 2 rangers. Yeh, not joking, i found groups with 3 or even 4 rangers.

Yeh i felt the same, it really sounds more like mesmers stuff, thats the class that mainly tricks enemies mind. I think it would be better not to add any new condition and keep the original Soul eater skill on DS5 and thats it.
Actually “madness” looks like the only possible condition to introduce at this state of the game, without further imbalancing classes, but personally i would just stick with the skill.

I played a game years ago where there was this “mind distortion” and was causing the target screen to blurr, but it wasnt used so much, maybe cause that was quite a nobrain game, so just spamming some skills could actually shot someone dead, maybe in gw2 a blurr could actually cause more troubles.
But again, i dont really feel the need of another condition, mainly cause the boon/cond system is already balanced with each counterparts, adding one more should mean also adding a boon counterpart which i cont think can get its place here.

conclusion:
dear Anet, just get Soul Eater in, with some balanced %dmg.

just make pets stats based on players stats and everytihng will be balanced, to a hard hitter pet you will find a squishy ranger, so as every other class, for a bunky pet u’ll have a bunky ranger, but not so dangerous with damage, like every other class.

yeh actually the crazy thing is that this class can totally spec into defense while having his pet totally offensive, this is the real problem, its like having a guardian bunker that can deal 2k dmg per hit and also put burning on you….
An easy fix to this without changing ranger class is to make pet stats related in % to the player stats, and each pet then has its own stat modifiers, so if the ranger go bunky the pet will also be resistent but wont deal much dmg.
Same thing that happens with mesmer phantoms, if you have no attack they will just do crap dmg, i cant understand why this isnt happening for rangers too.

yesterday evening, was doing tournament in spirit watch map, evrey team we fought was using at least 2 rangers, yeh we found teams with 3 rangers., some with traps, some with GS to carry orb, but yet they were sending all their pets on one of us, so they could carry the orb and cap bases while still have their pets focusing on our dpser :\

Totally agree with Nemesis, i think he got it right on this matter.
There are already enough conditions in the game, with all the condition spectrum covered, there is no need to overwhelm new players with more conditions when the actual situation is already balanced with a condition and its counterpart boon.

Since it is a skill related to DS, it HAS to be something deeply related with Necro essence, not another random condition that more classes will be able to get.
Plus… many ppl time ago were QQing about DS skills being a little dull, this idea would bring a definitely interesting situation in game, it puts a choise in front of the opponent, where he has to understand “should i dispel this and let him heal, so the fight will get longer; or can i stand the following dmg ?”

totally supporting this.

p.s.
the only thing i would change are damage . Cuase considering an average scenario in spvp, the target would have 10-12 stacks of bleeding, with a 1200 condition damage, it gets 1236 dmg per second, and lets add another 200 dmg per second from poison, and lets add the little direct damage of a pure condition build to round up for a total 1600 damage per second.
if the target cleanse conditions (including soul eater) after the first second of daze, the total dmg he got from the skill is 2
so 32 in this case, and the necro would get healed for … 96, quite little rewarding for a combo with a 30s cd skill.

lets suppose we also fear the target right after, to get the second tick off, (assuming we also have terror trait), the total dps at that time would be around 2500, so a 4% of that would be 100, for a total of 196 dmg done by soul eater. If it gets dispelled at this time it would heal for 588, not really a big deal.

The idea its good, i’ll just tune up dmg a bit to make it effective.
like 8%, 12%, 16%, 20%
considering a dps scenario like this:
1600 dps, 2500 dps, 1400 dps, 1200 dps
soul eater would deal…
128 + 300 + 224 + 240 = 892
if it doesnt get dispelled, the final dmg will be 1784
if it gets dispelled at 3rd second, will heal for 1956

So far i really like this patch, it brought a little more balance, and arenas + spectator mode let some new modes getting popular. There are some 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 rooms filled with spectators all the day long, everyone wanting to have a try, its really great imo.

For those saying that our actual maps are not designed for 1v1 and are too big, actually its not a problem cause ppl joining the arena 98% of the times knows that theya re going to fight right under the spawn point, without capping points and running all around.
Thats the use of spectator mode….. u see, u learn and jump into the game.
Now i hope they will be open for all soon, and i hope they wont be really expensive.

5th DS Skill

All this brainstorm about DS5 is funny, but almost uselss, since they already stated it will be a condition, so i’d say we can just guess what a necro unique condition could do.
Since the necro nature of corrupting life, and since looks like devs want more boon-management in the fight (see recently added boon-hate) i think it might be a condition that deals more dmg the more boon the target have, or a condition that corrupt other boons.

Actually i felt the same thing, if i soloQ with a roamer, it happens more often that my personal skill can have a major impact on the match, cause if i can read the situation better then my pug mates i can quickly go cap an empty point, and then jump back supporting mid.
troubles arise when the opponent team root a bunker on 2 places and i have to wait for pugs to get there and kill it togheter.
Yet roaming seems a better option for a pug.

Really a noble intent. I really cant stand zerging anymore too, and i appreciate anyone looking for some smaller ( thus more skilled ) fights.
I was used to play more often in WvW with my previous guild ([Rage], if you are in SF you might know it) but now i’m really much more involved with tPvP, i’m not going to find a zerg there, only team skills matter; even if i would love to see a whole zerg smashed by a good group.

I got some wvw solo action vids with my mesmer on my channel, maybe i should start recording some power necro vids too since ppl like it :p

necro isnt the worst class, atm warriors are, i think, and i said this quite alot for now, that necros are almost fine as they are, the only thing that we still need to be fair with other classes is a way not to be such an easy target, thats it.

Necro has plenty of options, you can run lots of builds:

condition spreading
terror
wells
tanky-heal
MM tanky
MM conditions
berserker

Gotta agree on the fact that ranks doesnt tell much about the player skill, lets say that its more likely that a high rank could be a skilled player rather than a low rank, but its not always true…. infact you can find some high ranks being noobs in tourneys cause they farmed all their rank in hotjoin.

As far as i know it will be possible to watch also from some fixed points on the map, other than players POV, i think it was something really needed cause this way new players can learn from high ranked pvpers.

Trait lines are fine as they are for necro, and i can tell u why, usually if u run crit damage means you will be probably squishy, SR line increase life force pool which is our second hp bar, this way increasing your crit damage you also increase your survivability with LF.

I tried a similar idea but using a MM, with minions leaching health at every attack, paired with dagger and soldier amulet it was a moving fortress, like 3k atk, 3k, almost 3k def, 25k+ hp and constant regen from leeching.
Downside: minions are weak in a teamfight cause aoe spam will kill them quickly.

Yes Neco have not so much mobility as some class’s.

I played necro a lot, but to be honest i dont feel like necro is an easy choise for a tournament. Necros got lots of really useful utilities and some are a must, like signet of undead and/or a boon corruption skill. So we end up with 2 main builds:

Wellmancer → well of suffering, well of corruption, signet of undead

Condition spreading → epidemic, corrupt boon, signet

these two builds can give some hard troubles to the opponent team, and ofc they know that, and they also know you have no breakstun, no blink to get away, no invulnerabilities, so combining the fact we can be really nasty and we are easy to burst down we always become the target #1 in a teamfight.

Even if we have 2x 3x the hp pool of a thief we often die way faster lol.

Not agree with the OP, i often run with dagger main hand on my necro and i dont have any problem catching runners cause i use signet for 25% speed + chill → 4s immobilize → Well of suffering + spam 1 = dead chicken.

I think many ppl posting on forums about class balancing dont know what a teamfight means in a tournament game. Necro isnt a bad class at all, it has lot of good utilities that can turn the tide of the battle, the fact is that the other team knows that, and also know that necros are an easy target without ANY escape mechanic, which means that it instantly becomes the main target, get focused by CC and damage and dies.
This is the reason i think this class need at least one displacement skill that dont eat an utility slot.

I stronlgy agree with reducing epidemic casting time, i was used to play condition necro on tournaments, but i had to drop it cause many other classes are really better (faster) at applying conditions, and they can stack up lots of conditions dealing really high damage (cough hgh engi cough). Our good point was the combo corrupt boon + epidemic to spread some panic in a teamfight, but most of the time all those conditions get removed while casting epidemic….. or the target just get downed while epidemic land on him spreading …nothing.

But i think this isnt the biggest problem about Necros… i said it already in some other topics but i can write it down again…. there is an interesting question we should ask thinking about each class, what makes someone able to stand in a teamfight ?

a mix of these abilities:

1) mobility
2) high defence
3) high HP
4) healing
5) cleansing
6) Invulnerability
7) access to defensive boons (aegis, protection, regen)

Just one or two of these arent enough usually, but we can make a analysis class by class to see how is lacking what..

Necro
1) really low
2) well its a cloth class so the base def is low, can be decent with shaman or rabid amulets
3) quite good
4) would be good to have a viable lifesteal, atm nothing special
5) good considering condition also transfers
6) nope
7) some protection with really long casting times, very little to no regen, no aegis

Warr
1) not so good
2) heavy class, high with some amulets
3) same as above
4) nothing special
5) definitely not enough to survive against heavy conditions builds
6) shield block
7) almost nothing

Eles
1) …. we all know, they blink and flash everywhere, best mobility in game
2) cloth class, same as necro
3) low
4) the best cause of easy access to it
5) really good
6) mist form
7) many and often

Mesmers
1) good, blink and teleports + might have stealths
2) usually low
3) usually mid-low
4) average
5) nothing on popular shatter build
6) has it
7) really good (with staff)

Dont really need to go on, we have here two examples of complete and good classes and 2 examples of classes that are still lacking about something.

If i can give some suggestions…. maybe i should write it in suggestion section but i can give some inputs here too….. from the analysis above looks like Necros need some more displacement skills and an invulnerability. I would deal with it through Death shroud, changing 2 skills into these:

Dark Path → ground target blink 900 range that chill and bleed on 120 radius

This way the skill would be way more versatile than just being a gap closer, it can also be used as an escape mechanic, something that necros badly need.

Life transfer → remove the damage but makes the necro invulnerable for the duration of the skill.

I will agree with you here. Requiring gems (rather than glory/regular in-game funds) is a bad move.

Consider also that programmers are working….. making games is their job, usually u expect some money from your job. Indirectly we are those paying thier job, remember that this is one of those few MMO (if not the only) that doesnt have a monthly fee, and isnt a PayToWin game.
This is why i think putting Custom Arenas as a gem feature isnt bad, as long as it is a one-time-only purchase, as long as it is 2k or 3k gems and there you go, i’m fine with it.

With custom arenas, the play-now functionality will be revamped to better place you in servers.

It’s like saying “sometime in the future when we balance the game balance won’t be a problem so don’t worry about it now”

I respect you as a dev because I know you’ve personally handled some important quickfixes (really quickly too) but your solution is just silly.

Custom arenas will have way more options than just a duel, we should be able to do 1v1 or 2v2 or nvn, and more stuff.
I have waited for so long for this that i dont mind even paying 2k gems for it, just…. pls, DONT make it on a limited time….. that “Time token Custom arena” scares me like hell, if we got to pay gems every day in order to be able to open a pvp room that would be the WORST idea ever.

Don’t leave and ruin their duel. If they complain more or start to insult you then report them. They are doing it wrong. The hotjoin servers are not meant for duel. Duel system still needs to be implemented by ArenaNet.

Instead they should whine daily in the forums… maybe this will help to get ArenaNet to implement a duel function faster.

I often do duels and mainly build tests with my team mates in hotjoin rooms, cause there isnt any other place to do so… and when we face Kitten ppl like you we just switch team and brutally slay them all togheter till they leave.

Thats how to deal with kitten kitten)gots.

Actually…. today i won 5 tournaments in a row in solo Q, and won other 6-7 with other 2 friends. Our opponents were easy sometimes, some other times were really hard, we lost twice but wasnt so tragic.
At the moment i dont think its so bad, it could just be a little better with visible rank points on leaderboard and custom arenas.

you can have even 100k hp, but if get focused and dont have any way to get out of the focus fire, you are going to die aswell, remember that those so called “OP” classes doesnt have high hp at all…. less than 20k usually. What help someone to stay alive are usually invulnerabilities, sltealths, high defense and many heals, blinks.
Sadly Necros dont have any of these tricks to play, we dont have anything to really waste the opponent burst.
Ele, mesmer, guard, ranger, warr(with shield block) have invulnerability, thief doesnt but it has a good burst and the blink + stealth away option….. only necro is out of all these tricks for survive.
I hope Devs are planning something about this.

Actually i agree, cause atm LF is the only way for a necro to soak dmg, without LF a necro is almost without defenses. But i think Necro do need a little tweak, cause they are on lower tier atm side by side with warriors.
I mean, necro can be good, i love my power necro, can be really deadly, and even if i can often melt eles and mesmers i think its not cause of the classes but a matter of players skills.
The worst point about necro is the totally absent mobility…. most succesfull classes (eles, mesmers) has great mobility, while once a necro is in trouble can only rely on its second life bar…. which means cant rely on anythign if its empty…. and even popping LF isnt a way to escape the dangerous situation, its just making the suffering 3 seconds longer.
We definitely need some escape mechanic.

Actually it takes me lot more time to get a new set, find the runes on the list, buy x6, apply them to the armor and buy the amulet than changing traits, that usually takes like a min.

The Best, would be to have your build template list where u can choose your build to use , and that automatically apply the runes, amulet, jewel, traits, weapons and their sigils.
This would be a well done job, and even if it will cost some gems i would buy it cause i change build like every day on 4-5 toons…… yeh i’m a build maniac, i test a kittenload of builds even on toons i do not play with :p
