Reworking traits is much more complicated than throwing in some more amulets. If you ask for complex fix you’ll get nothing, that’s why I’m asking for something simple which is still able to have an impact on this meta.

I feel like some builds now have no chance to work decently cause there isn’t a proper amulet to go with.
ATM 90% of amulets are in power and condition damage category, while there is only one (and often bad) choise under vitality / toughness / healing / precision.
I’m not saying I want bunkers back, but that won’t happen if we get some more amulets with just one defensive stat but more combinations.
For example a healing / concentration / power could be very good for a support and still won’t be unkillable at all.
There are some other good combos that could help a bit with build diversity what do you think?

What i really find broken / bugged about this trap is that you cannot blink out of it without taking damage. It really make no sense that i can roll over it and be all fine but i cannot teleport outside of it

When you watch a LoL or Dota match, you can almost always tell whats going on, even if u dont know much about the game, you can try to guess. If you watch a GW2 match….. well, what you see its a big mess, flashes all around, clones, pets, teleports, leap, flames everywhere, explosions everywhere, things blowing up, ppl jumping around dodging things and becoming immune to any kind of dmg while they roll.

This is such a bullkitten argument. I’ve watched a few Dota and LoL streams and I have ABSOLUTELY NO KITTENING IDEA WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT ANY MOMENT. Gw2 matches on the other hand I can follow pretty well, especially with good commentators.

Maybe its bullkitten for you, but its a really a common opinion among players that GW2 fights are really messy, and we are lucky that minion masters, spirit rangers and turret engi arent meta builds anymore….cause that was a hell of a screen mess.
But still, during a fight there isnt much way to highlight some key skills, and i did watch streams, and casters dont call for skills, cause its too messy, they mostly point out when somone goes down or get ressed, because ther eis simply too much stuff happening at once to point out anything else.

Downed state isnt such a big problem, you might not like it, but its just a game mechanic, something to play around, and that concentrate quite much strategic action.
A team that can handle downed state well has a great advantage over the opponent team.
What i think is really keeping far GW2 from a possible esport scene is another serie of issues:

- too much skill spam → there is no mana cost and CDs are often quite low to be meaningfull, this leads to let players ‘waste’ some skills without any drawback. There are some key skills that must be saved for the right times, but most dmg skills can just be spammed in the circle hoping to take down someone.

- too many AoE & cleaves→ its ok to have some AoE skills, maybe not only for mages but also some warrior able to spin around and hit more opponents, but GW2 just brought this to the limit, where nearly everything you do can hit multiple enemies, even if u are not aware of what is going on, you can just jump in and tap some buttons, and maybe something will go down, or u will go down eventually.
This isnt really healthy for the game because it does promote attack spam and not a calculated offense and target focusing.

- too many visual effects / stuff happening on the screen → this is mainly affecting ppl spectating the game rather than ppl playing it. All these points are quite connected, we can sum it up saying that there should be fewer skills but with some crucial ones, and these key skills should be highlighted by visuals efx.

The problem of letting player mix stats (which i would prefer), is that many ppl will complain about those total bunker builds, like toughness/vitality/healing power.
I wouldnt mind them too much, but many ppl would cry sooo much.

Its surely something that would be needed in any /esport enviroment. Anet has been putting much effort to push GW2 in this esport scenario but they didnt focus on the right way to do that.

I bet 90% of ppl playing pvp barely use minimap pings to give directions to party members, and even if they do none will ever notice them, so they just dont use it.
Why not making it more useful, as it is in games like dota or LoL ?
Surely someone suggested this already but i have no idea where it oculd be now….. it would be really usefull to have a quick menu for pings, like press ALT and a circle appear, press a WASD or mouse click to send a message to your team, something like …

“Go Far” /mid/close
“i’m going here” … and ping position
Add sound when u ping a point on the minimap
“Defend”
“Attack”

Simple stuff like this, but if u make it appear at middle screen and add sounds, it will be much of help.

Since the removal of jewels and stat poits from traits we got left with a really rigid system to choose our stats, if u want to keep this way ok, but in this case i really feel like we need some more options with these amulets.
For example some more balanced options for power builds, we see that marauder is preferred to berserker cause this last is too extreme and leads to really fragile builds; i’m mainly thinking to builds that benefit from healing power, or to those amulets that have ferocity and no precision… its really a niche to use such things.
In addition i would normalize all amulets stat to a single value, something like 3300, cause atm there are amulets like berserker that has a total of 3000 stats, while marauder has 3220, and celestial 3920…
If the reason to celestial having more total stats is that spread up stats are less effective i would suggest to just remove the amulet, normalize all amulet stats and then put more variety in.

Just what title says, is there any plan on using ladders in any way ? atm they arent working at all, so pvp is just another way of farming, there isnt really something competitive unless you go for weekly/monthly torunaments, but thats not stuff for all i think.

I came back playing gw2 after this specializations patch, but what i found out is that leaderboard isnt actually working anymore, ok ppl didnt like it much at that time it was released but why did it get just shut down ? Is there any plan on remaking it ?
Don’t know if its something planned to come with HoT expansion anyway there should be some sort of ladder, but instead of a global one i think a division-based system (as for moba) would work better, this is because need to have some short-time goals, like getting to silver, than getting to gold, and so on, just seeing you at position 934 and thinking “ok if i win next match i might be somewhere at position 933 or 700” isnt really appealing.
What do you think ?

lol, the button is still there, it just have another name “Practice”.
It refers to hotjoin garbage, yeh, you first mistake is going into hotjoin, if you want to pvp thats the worst place you can do it, caus ehotjoin is pure garbage, where low skill ppl just farm their rank and team up to stomp ppl 4v1.
Thats not pvp mate, go for unranked Queue if u want some decent pvp (as far as it is possible in this game) without worrying of leaderboards rank.

Profession Swapping In New System?

Yeaa same here…. I play on a very crappy internet and PC, hopefully arenanet can tell if its DC or rage quit. Like giving 5 min to come back would be reasonable, that’s what it takes to reset the PC and stuff.

Sorry, but if you leave for any reason you’ll get dishonor, no matter the length of time. Even the shortest interrupts can have significant impact on the quality of the game for the other players.

Unfortunately there is no real way that I’m aware of to detect real disconnects from someone ripping out their Ethernet cable and setting it on fire in a fit or rage induced passion.

As usual though, if there is good reason too, we’ll take the time to look at this again. I can’t promise any we’ll take any action though.

This just feels wrong…. i mean, here in italy internet connection suck badly, when i play with my friends we often have ppl lagging or connection drops, but we know they’ll do whatever they can to come back in game as soon as possible, and since we are playing on voicecom we know they crashed and we can react accordingly for the time they are not there.
So clearly, since we are in same team we would not want them to get disonhored for something is not their fault.

So, this is the idea, why not to put a grace vote ? For example:
a player from team A dc, at the end of the match a message pops up to his team: “Player * disconnected from the game, do you want to punish his behaviour ?” Y | N
If he gets 2 “no” he wont get the dishonored.

I’d say that at the moment the game is in its best balance state (note: this does not mean that its all good, but just that more or less all classes are viable in a different comp with some builds). So this means that every class can benefit from tha same brainless spam of skills yay!

I guess this is the best we can hope for, cause this is how they built the game and changing this would require too much work, so it will never happen, just forget it.
If you want a game where every skill-press matters and can make a difference in the battle go play LoL.

This means its now time for …… eSportz!

Which is something they badly want to happen…. see the recent weekly $$$ donation to TCG from anet (aka new tournaments with cash prize on weekly basis).
I’m not saying this is wrong, but what i would ask is why trying so hard to boost competition when the game is missing some basic feature for a pvp game ?
Here i’m talking about the Q drop for afkers, some working report system for afker/troll during match, a system to equalize the match in case of 4v5, decent ladder maybe with leagues and divisions.

Well its not that fool, Riot did something similar in LoL with the URF featured gaemode, where champions had 80% cd reduction, no mana/energy cost, more attack speed.
It was kitten fun, a troll mode yeh, but knowing that it was really funny.
Could be a interesting feature for 1 April, and then maybe let it be an option for custom arenas… :wink:

yeh, i got an idea.

Do you really think that a team able to put up a game like gw2, that dish out updates where they modify all the item storage, wardrobe, skin management, and several other technically complicated updates cant put togheter some lines of code to prevent afkers to stay in matchmaking queue ? (or this freeze idea)
If a Dev step here and say they dont know how to code that…oh well, this game is doomed.

The fact is that its not on their priority list at the moment, its just all about that… marketing.
If their marketing guys say that living story progression and fluffy stuff in gemstore will provide the most revenues, those things will go higher on the priority list, and for everthing that comes next… i think the procedure to make it live is quite long, full of meetings to:

  • decide what to work on and if to work on a new feature X, then….
  • they will decide how this X should be like, then….
  • if its worth to work on X, then….
  • they work on it
  • do some tests
  • share thoughts, then…
  • fix bugs
  • more tests
  • validate and commit
  • if to release it in some strategic period and how to make hype for that new special super mega innovative X feature, then…. after some months it may go live.

The reason why we dont see many stuff we would like lies in some elements of this list, probably more than one point.

All I am saying is there must be more to it! maybe the current system isn’t upgradeable. Maybe this requires a complete reprogramming of the function for it to work. Yes! it isn’t alright for a Dev to suggest that something is in the works and then nothing for 6 months. Hopefully one of the Devs will comment soon. I hear rumor that pvp has something coming soon, lots of speculation but we will see!

The current system can be modified and upgraded whenever they want.
It does not require any complete reprogramming, actually they did much bigger stuff for PVE than what pvp need.
They always say they are working on kitten keep us quiet.
Dont believe when they say something BIG is coming soon, cause the reality is that there will be….. something coming in some time.

+1 on this “Freeze” system, it might be annoying for a team to get a queue time on respawn, but it is surely less annoying than having a leaver (or dc) in your own team, and loose cause of that.
Side note, the player frozen at spawn can still help their team coordinating them, since he wont be in the heat of the battle he can just look at the map and call for rotations, i know it isnt that much but still better than the actual situation.

Another thing that is a must to introduce is a working report system, not something that sends ticket, it could just be an automated system that if someone gets X report for afking in a short time frame he gets a Y time ban from pvp.

I dont think he is suggesting this for hotjoin, infact in hotjoin nothing matters really, you dont like tha match…. just change server, who cares, you are loosing…. just switch team and become the winner, you can.
Hotjoin just make no sense at all, except practicing with a class/build before actually using it in matches.

It could actually be a good idea to fix 4v5 situatons, i should try it, but on the papaer i like it.
The funny thing is that having a quitter will be more annoying for the other team XD
It could also involve some smart play on the 4 men side, cause if they are missing the guard they could try to take him down at the right time to force him out of the game for a while and produce an even situation.

I think i’m not the only one who refuses to play soloQ cause of this map and agrees on deleting it, anyway, even if i’m in good company with all those sharing the same feelings Anet isnt going to throw away the map, so we’d better try to make it … acceptable.

The most annoying fact in kittenhammer is that ppl can just spec full bunker with loads of pull/push skills and be able to kill more efficiently than a dps spec in any other map, ofc while having all the advantage of a high defence build.
So i had an idea… what about adding another layer in the map ? the lower one, where you just fall and die, could actually be turned into a playfield.
This can be done by lowering the height of the whole map so that falling from a breakable plate wont kill you, but will just cause a delay (still annoying i know, but at that point it would be much more similar to Khylo clocktower).
The delay caused should not be too long ofc, otherwise it would just be better to die and respawn, if it took less time; so we should also have some ramps or jump pads to be able to get back to the point in …say 5-6 seconds, this would still allow the decap-play and time-buy play but wont be as punishing as death (5 points and over 20s out of the fight, just for a kitten knockback).

If we want then to make things even more interesting we could add another access to skyhammer platform from this lower layer, maybe in a position that would require some time to reach, so that player would go for it only if they get pushed down.
This would introduce a bit of more tactic play cause if you win the point by pushing them under the map they might gain a quick access to skyhammer.

What do you think ?

Cause 6/4/xx was any better ? randomly proccing dhuumfire….
Players can be skilled and make conditions build even stronger, but imo conditions builds were a bad idea from the start.
It would be much more fun to have conditions only as a tool to make direct damage easier, putting pressure on the target with poison and maybe confusion too, but mainly cripple / chill / immobilize, not all that burning 20+ bleeds, torment.

Its not well designed cause its a must have. I dont know what build you are running not to need DE, probably its a phantasm build, otherwise its inferior to any similar build including DE..

Maybe i didnt express well, cause most ppl here missed my point… i’m not asking for a nerf to DE, what i would like is not to be forced to it; be it with an increased clone gen somewhere else or a revised version of De included in class mechanic.

No, it simply means you’d be unable to spend 4 points in dueling and have good clone generation. The clone generation from DE precisely how it is is absolutely essential to allowing mesmers to work in any remotely functional form.

I do not agree, it would just require a bit more attention to the number of illusions you have up in order to spawn a new one, but i dont see it so catastrophic as you say.

I can agree on cleansing ire, but engis dont need to run granade kits, they have many other options.
What i’m saying about mesmers is that DE is a must trait in 99% of decent builds.
Call me fool but imo it should be removed and maybe close generation should be compensated in some other way, either changing some traits or weapon skills or as a class mechanic.

I got quite a long experience with mesmer class, I tested many builds, probably all of them (not considering each slight variation), and still every time i try to find out some different build which could be good for tPvP i find myself stuck with those 4 points in Dueling.
Dont you guys feel like that deceptive evasion is crippling mesmer build diversity ?
Its just a too good trait to give it up for anything else in any build involving shatter…. and well, mesmer is mainly about shattering.

Sigil of earth effect triggers with a 60% chance on crit, so even you have 3 100% crits you still need to get in that 60% to get your bleed stacking.
On a 50% crit chance you have a 0.6*0.5 = 30% chance per Hit to bleed.

“Strong” really depends on who is using it, but considering how complete is spec in the current game mode i can say D/D ele would be the best choise for a celestial spec.
Why? If i had to assign a vote to different aspects…..

I think recording matches is far over for a game feature, but there is something that most pvp games have: a good spectator mode where you can actually spectate ranked matches with a slight delay (considering gw2 faste paced matches i’d say a 30s – 1m delay would be enough, so to not overload the server).

About statistics after match, yeah, that would be a usefull tool for player to player analysis or self performance analysis. Anyway i think the spectator thing has an higher priority factor.

That is pretty hard to program or code.

It seems not letting a match start when a side has less than 5 players is also hard to code. In fact a-net have led me to believe it is impossible to code. I also believe a toggle switch that says “I’m ready” “I’m not ready” is also impossible to code. A “resign” button is also apparently very hard to code.

from a programmer point of view… for how noob i can be in this matter i can roughly estimate..
+ Buttons to say “i’m ready” | “i’m not ready”, (which already are there, just need to fix the functionality), no more than 15min. It just need to not start the match and reiterate the matchmaking algorithm witohut the not ready person.

+ Resign button… more or less the same time, maybe a bit more considering it also have to display a message box warning everyone on the team that someone is offerting to surrender, if 4 out of 5 clicks resign then just /endgame.

All functions are already there, there is nothing new to add, but i think most of us already knew this, the reason why they aren’t actually doing it its quite a mystery.

I think they should seriously consider a Shortest Job First approach for their schedule, maybe just add a priority factor to some longer jobs to prevent starvation.

Oh wait… they are already using a SJF approach….tooltips got fixed

The viability of most builds just depends on who is using that build, and the team he is playing with. Most ppl said meta was bunkerish specs, and AI crowd ftw and that mesmer was not good anymore in tpvp (i used to believe that for a while)… now look at ToL 1 winners comp: 3 zerkers, 1 celestial and 1 support guardian, they had a mesmer and no AI specs.
So i think everything depends on how the team plays around their composition.

Necro is definitely not a one trick pony, whatever build you run (well…. MM necro is a zero trick pony, there are just too many ponies..), running a power necro in a team pvp means that you are going to have close to no escapes, so you got to rely totally on your team for your survivability.
Zerk necros, compared to other zerkers, trade mobility for lot more health. I sometimes play a vampiric necro and its really good against many other zerk spec cause it has 23k hp + 18k from LF pool, and if you build and play it around quick LF generation that extra life can refill more than once in a duel, gaining more effective health than a bunker.

Lets do a second test. Have a thief stand behind you and backstab you 11 times in a row like you apparently let this Necromancer do to you, and we’ll see which one kills you faster.

considering 3 seconds of revealed, it will take 33 seconds for the thief, I guess the power necro kills faster

I think there is something really interesting for everyone that could be put into pvp reward tracks, something that you can use if you need it or you can collect them and then sell the final product if you are not interested in it but you are looking for something else… wonder whats that ?

I think it would be great to have a track that gives you a ticket scrap at the end. In order to get one ticket you’ll need 10 scraps. These numbers can be adjusted, but i think something like this would multiply pvp population.

It wouldnt be crazy to implement this, and wouldnt be that unfair compared to key farming, cause with keyfarming you can get a key in about 20min, which is more more or less the time of a pvp match.
Getting a ticket scrap from a key is random, but usually its 1 out of 4, so lets assume 1 scrap every 1.5 hours keyfarming.
It still takes more with pvp, but you would get some minor rewards meanwhile and …hey, its pvp!

You are a pretty good guardian yet you didnt know what that green lich was going to do ?
Sorry man, but its a L2P issue. When a necro turns in that BIG fluo green kitten you should istantly know that you need to block/dodge those shadowy hands.

There are many teams that melt when a lich pops up, but actually its easy to deal with them, depending on your class/build

  • remove their stability, then CC hard
  • if u cant, use some shield, even better if reflects
  • moa
  • stealth and flee
  • blind him and dps hard (that thing has extremely reduced mobility)
  • if you cant do anything of the above, just roll and take some distance, cause those #1 death attacks are the slowest projectiles in game, if u are at say 900+ range you can dodge them without even dodging.

To those saying that ranger is fine and that ppl just cant play it right…. could you pls give me some builds that you consider viable in tPvP ? excluding condition/close holder builds.
I passed some days trying to find out some decent zerk/roaming build for ranger, but even if they looked interesting on the paper, they felt quite underwhelming comapred to any other meta build.
I can say i’m noob as ranger, since is the class i like the least, but i’m always interested in buildcrafting.

I was just trying something similar this evening. I did many duels with a friend using thief and i worked quite well, but it might just be a skill level difference.
I should try it more in TeamQ.

Wow, an NPC using the downed skill of another class, this is seriously a terrible issue, Anet must fix it nao, or the game would become unplayable!!!

Actually…even if you build this supposedly unbeatable bunker engi, and you place your butt on close point, you wont have your assured win, cause even if you bunker a point your team might still loose teamfight mid, specially if they have a roaming comp and they fight 4v5 mid.
This way you’ll find your team with only close point, while enemy team will have close and mid.
This said, if they are smart, at the proper time they’ll rush far with 2 or 3 ppl to shut down that engi quickly, and its not that impossible since that build only got 1 breakstun with kitten cd, only 1 condition removal on heal with 20s cd, and it does totally nothing without turrets, so the way to go is AoE dmg (with stability if melee), conditions and CC.

Guess what, 2 widely used specs have got what you are looking for: Hambow and DD ele, both have stability, CC, area dmg, and burning and they can mutually stack might with eachothers combo fields/finishers.
