SUGGESTIONS! I’m sorry, I probably shouldn’t start threads before coffee.
Yes, I did think – people are already a bit cross about the particle overload. But I am not talking huge effects. Just enough to see. Not enough to obscure the sun during a zerg, like with some of the skill effects.
And dyes are …. dyes. I mean, they introduce new dyes, and they make them all hard to get, and – well, there are a limited number of times you can release a ‘new’ green. ‘Oh, this green is a little greener than that green. In a yellowy green way.’
A little shimmer effect could possibly be really cool. One person suggested rainbows, but that might be a bridge too far.
So, my turret crew in Sparkfly was chatting last night about dyes, and we thought; dyes with particle effects?
Violet dyes that shed little silver shimmers could be called Starlight. White dye with snowflakes, etc.
I know people are split on particle effects being too prevalent, and I am afraid to get the idea so tangled up in RNG that only three players can ever afford it anyway, but we thought it sounded amazing.
I hop in the Queensdale train every so often. The train is definitely going to announce in chat if a champ dies out of rotation, as an FYI. And some people are immature about their annoyance. But if someone makes a personal attack against you for playing open world content – report! Those mobs are not the personal property of the train.
What? Someone mentioned the UI, and Colin popped in to give us some transparency on that. I thought it was great!
I agree about the particle effects, though; the other day some guy in Labyrinth chat was yelling at us for missing boss tells and inconveniencing him with our deaths. My husband was watching over my shoulder, and asked; ‘Are you supposed to be able to see things? It looks like you are flailing around in a swimming pool full of Play Doh. With fire on it.’
I’m 38, and am laughing at the ‘oh how nice the ancient decrepit mummies over 30 can still coordinate their feeble hands and eyes to click a mouse!’ feeling in the air.
I like you.
I like you both.
Yay! Party in the Salma District!
I think we can get an early bird special at the Divinity’s Reach Hometown Buffet.
Great! Then we can do last night’s dailies, cause I don’t knowabout YOU, but I was sound asleep before reset.

The only ones who want to be seen as adults are children. Adults confident with themselves already know what it’s like to be an adult and are self aware of their adult status.
Judging off of this idea, we can assume anyone who refers to others as “kiddies” or “childish” is a child or insecure adult.
The operative word there being ‘judging.’ People acting like kiddies are kiddies, regardless of the state of grown ups’ personal problems.
….what? You think a game full of Quaggan backpacks, rainbow unicorn longbows, mini-games, carnivals, and moa-races is geared for an older audience?
That doesn’t really mean much. You have a group of adult “men” who worship My Little Pony. You have adult women who are into Hello Kitty.
Interesting that adult males who like toys are ‘men,’ but women don’t get the scare quotes. Because we are expected to have babyish likes?

Let’s go to Bingo Night together.w
The populace is getting older because we did not stop playing video games when we expired like milk at age 30?

I got to join in a TTS overflow kill the other night; it was awesome.
I would be amazed if RPers ’aren’t worth it;’ they are willing to spend money on vanity items, and aren’t clamoring for new endgame content every thirty seconds.

RNG
… that’s it really
The biggest problem, ArenaNet does not feel human.
It was pointed out by an earlier poster that the feedback in this thread has been overwhelmingly helpful, since a dev started it by reaching out. I think it ties into your point. I understand that the attitudes in these forums are sometimes such that no individual would willingly dignify the flaming by noticing it, but… if one is angry enough to kick something, and it appears that all there is to kick is a deaf wooden post … the post is going to take quite a kicking. When the post becomes a person, civility reasserts itself.
This could be a really exciting experiment, guys. In ten years, we might be saying; ‘Yeah, well remember when Arenanet decided to throw corporate stonewalling to the wind and let us help make our own game?’ It could turn out really well.
What DOES keep all the angry peeps playing? I am asking seriously. What makes you log in to this game instead of one of our million other choices? Let’s find that and make more.
Angry complainers mean the game is healthy. It shows people care about the game.
When they stop complaining, that’s when a game is in trouble, because it means they’ve stopped caring.
I get that. That’s why I am in GW2, for example, and not SWTOR, which finally tipped too far toward money grabbing for my taste. Or WoW, which lost me with the skill revamp that came with the Pandas.
My question is completely literal; what things, what little plusses, what wonderful moments, are what keep the angry people from tipping over to the wrong side of the passionate/apathetic line?

I think most of them are extremely pretty.
I find just about all of the underwater areas gorgeous.
I have a running joke with one of my friends that devs are like unicorns. Stand very still and they might come up to you. Don’t spook the unicorns!!!
Many people share opinions; focusing the voices down for day to day feedback might help a lot. It doesn’t mean other voices would have no outlet.
Which guilds would you choose then? I mean when someone says in a convo that he/she is talking for guild xyz I find it ok, but what is with people without guild, what is with small guilds? What criteria would you choose to allow someone to take part in a discurs? I also don’t find it a good idea only to choose people who can write good feedbacks or answer mulitple choice questions pretty well, because it doesn’t necessarly mean that this person is objective. How do you want to make sure that the selection of people doesn’t already predeterminate the outcome of the discussion?
You misunderstand; I thought of guilds, but I like the above suggested idea of spokesplayers better.

You know, as I was talking this stuff over with my guild last night, I was thinking how cool it could be if the guilds could send reps to a GW2 Player Summit or something. But having a thoughtful group of players selected as detailed above would be good as well. I like that.
The discussion would not be whether RNG would be removed.
I am excited to craft Ascended armor.
I agree with you regarding random rewards; that’s whatI want to discuss.
I like the system. It needs some tweaking, though. The mats should be trade able, for example.
I agree with Neural that the Ascended crafting gives you a concrete goal to work toward. You have to work, you have to wait, but your hard work is not going to be utterly negated by random bad luck, like the precursors.
I look forward to discussing RNG.
In game Polls:
Barmen.
You talk to a barman in a tavern, they chat yto you, ask you questions, you give your responses.
Anet get their poll.
Player recieves tankard of ale for their time.Encourage participation by making “visit tavern for a drink” a daily achievement when a poll is needed
This is actually kindof brilliant.
It really, really is. I love it.
Also, a simple forum search would provide the devs with some common issues that are very frequently discussed, the fixing of/progress with ANY of which would make people very happy. Pull out the ten topics that seem to be driving people the craziest, volumewise, and use those to start with. It would be plenty to start with.
No ingame pop ups, please.
I agree with others that bugs come first, in wvw, pvp and pve. Maybe give us a bug report with the game updates and include info on non resolved issues, just so we know they haven’t been forgotten. I know you guys are working on more than we hear about. Those things, since they are meant to be fixed, I don’t feel we need to collaborate on, as such…. but progress notes would be amazing.
I think the spaces are nice, but could be improved.
Having the quests be unrelated to Living or Personal story is what I am suggesting. If an NPC enlists your aid to take a Vigil sergeant and clear an area of undead, I am not sure how that would have to impact LS?
When a character joins an Order, s/he gets an inspirational cut scene, access to a guild space of variable usefulness, and enough quests to get you further toward you personal quest to defeat Zhaitan. And then…?
I would like the Order Halls to be better developed spaces, with questgivers, and to have more Order missions. They don’t necessarily even have to have More Personal Story to them… even if they were organized like hearts, only the heart NPCs were all in your Order Hall, and the hearts could be anywhere in Tyria, that would be great. Maybe green hearts for Order quests.
Rewards could be level appropriate versions of Order armor pieces, or access to buy cool Order gear with karma, like the hearts.
I like the Orders, and want membership to mean something.
RNG in loot drops is fun. Look at Diablo 2. RNG you pay money for is not necessarily fun. It makes money from the compulsive, thrills the lucky, but it breeds resentment and distrust in the unlucky. Since most people are unlucky, that is a lot of resentment.
I know gems make lots of money. It’s human nature to gamble, and we and Arena net are obviously extremely aware of that. However; being apparently happy to make a mint off the compulsive, while breeding resentment and disloyalty among the unlucky is not sustainable. The unlucky majority have begged to be able to hand over their money to straight out purchase items. They/ we have also begged to have RNG results adjusted so that the whole experience of handing Arena net money feels more rewarding.
Not giving loyal customers more reasons to give you money is not sensible.
Also, I understand that this game has a major conflict present in all mmos; rewarding players tanks the economy. RNG numbers are kept punishingly low to give goods market value. This needs to be worked on. When I need a break from GW2, I play Borderlands 2. It is glorious to play a game that gives you rewards that you can use to play the game, with no regard for whether it will spoil the market for your awesome new toys. I want to feel like my hours and weeks and months in GW2 are spent using all my fun items, not desperately wishing for them. I’ll work for them, all day… as long as I GET them.

Caithe and Scarlet, ticket scraps, those Tome of Knowledge level scrolls.
If their goal is to get us to buy more keys… and it is, then almost everything in the gem store except the boosters would make them more attractive. It’s not that we don’t understand that 1. they need to make money, and 2. handing out super rares like candy isn’t going to happen. It’s that we would happily make them MORE money if they adjusted the drops on more universally useful items.
I personally would love 100 claim tickets. I would be satisfied with things like repair canisters, makeover kits, rez orbs and the odd booster or two, plus occasional scraps, tonics, etc. I am NOT happy with a million coin bags containing 2s, and buckets of killstreak boosters.
I am not asking for super rare drops to be upped; just that the regular drops make more sense. We are already paying money for the key; it’s notlike we want stuff free.
I would question the kill streak booster’s usefulness at ALL, honestly. There are several boosters I do use, and some that I don’t, though I can see their usefulness to others. The kill streak ones, though…. ?
Repair canisters, rez orbs, etc. Those are awesome, and of time and money saving use to all players.. Dye packs, makeover kits, etc., are purely cosmetic. I think they should drop more often; players obviously adore cosmetic enhancements. And buying keys to randomly get them is more fun than buying them outright.
The scraps were an awesome addition. I love it. The key drop nerf was not awesome.
I can afford the keys, and do not feel that the boosters are useful enough to be in there. They are just a waste of space. I would rather the chests dropped more keys, maybe interesting skins, more skill points, backpacks, tomes of knowledge, dye packs, Rez orbs, etc. When I drop $20 on keys, I don’t want to wonder; ‘Will I get anything at all fun or useful?’ I want to wonder; ‘WHICH fun useful thing will I get?!’
Lots. But gaming is my hobby, and it is cheaper than drinking, so shrug.
Hi! I’m one of those people who chooses to spend my gaming dollars on things like the gem store, to get cool-looking things while supporting the game I love. I buy Black Lion Keys, too. Even though I am apparently encouraging Satanism. I love this model. It’s not a heavy-handed commercial for subscription, like SWTOR’s ‘f2p,’ and I can spend my money on things I like.
I don’t mind carrying the people who bombastically Boycott The Gem Store; I am gaving fun doing what I do. Carry on with the angst!
I spend my real money in the gem store to get pretty things I like, in exchange for happily playing a game with no monthly fee. I think that is how it was supposed to work?
So what’s the price of the coffers now? Haha.
Like chili peppers. They are now absurdly rare, and they are in a cooking guide, so they cost way more than the things they make.
Azenketh, a gate of once per day per toon would be lekittenous, but no less irritating, for me at least. My issue is the daily login ‘requirement.’ I will play a million hours and buy a million gems; why make my life harder for no reason other than to artificially prolong my interest in the game?
Which will not succeed by this method, by the way. If gear were not time-gated, I would make a crazy effort to get lots of it, all the time, spreading love and gems all over the game. And I mean EFFORT. I am ocd and in love with six hour play sessions. I don’t want an Easy Button. ‘Six months to get this gear’ just says to me, ‘Oh. I already have daily chores, like housework and my job. No thanks.’ Time-gating like this is a deterrent for me.
Agreed, Erika (and others) – they want me to log in every day, and artificially structure my gwar acquisition process to ‘encourage’ me to. Well, I’m not going to. Not because I am taking some sort of Stand, but because… Life. So… since I am not shelling out a monthly fee, I am more likely to just go try out a new game. No drama, just their choices informing my choices. And that bums me out, because this is such a pretty game.
I love the idea of a skin collection tab. It would save bank space for more important things, like collecting currencies.
My problem with one a day limits is real life. Some days I have hours to blow on GW2… some days I don’t get to log on. I’d love to spend a lazy Saturday grinding for mats, and nor feel panicky about missing the next six chances.
Nothing against improvement to dungeons but that specific idea is terrible. We already have an indirect version of that in the new AC. With Grast being an idiot you basically have to heal him to keep him alive so you can actually fight the boss. More of that would not make dungeons better.
We’re not talking about healing npc’s and keeping them alive. In fact, in my list of ideas to improve dungeons, I specifically stated that babysit quests should be avoided at all costs, since everyone hates to babysit an npc. No, what I was talking about, is using certain skills in unconventional ways. Most bosses are simply a matter of hammering them with skills till they run out of health. I thought it would be interesting to have opponents that respond differently to skills than what you are used to. A boss that is vulnerable to healing skills was but a random idea, but this point was mostly about the concept of giving bosses unique traits that make that boss fight more interesting.
Yes. That. ^ Babysitting is awful, and no one likes it.
Some people like the dungeons, and that’s fine; I am not saying anyone who likes them is wrong. But I am curious; most players have done the dungeons a million times anyway … even if you like them, wouldn’t you like more challenging content?
Another poster above mentioned that for him, at first dungeons were hard, but now they are easy. Well… wouldn’t you like them to be a challenge again, at least the first few times? Updating them with content designed to appeal to more people (and I am not saying nerfing, or making it easier – hell, I want it more complicated for the most part) would be like getting a whole new set of dungeons!
Last night on Sea of Sorrows, we killed the Wychmire Swamp giant wurm so fast, he apparently died before he officially fully spawned, and no chest dropped. Amid all the chat cries of wuuuuut?, one player announced, ‘well, on to the next server!’
…
Really? I mean, REALLY? One of the players present said he would report it to Anet, but I figured I would mention it here as well. So many people are camping the boss timer across servers that we killed him too fast to get the reward. Not ok.
