But this is common sense… How dare you bring common sense into the equation.
I know, I must be crazy.
I just want the punishment brigade to look at it from another point of view. We have all been on runs where commanders have to pull a zerg all the way across the map on a supply run, or seen towers/camps/keeps that can’t upgrade because every yak is getting murdered at birth. The defenders and roamers COULD be logged out entirely, doing actual real life things for their multitasking enjoyment. Instead, they are choosing to do wvw’s boring, unglamorous, no bags dirty work. kitten straight they should be rewarded. They enable the zerg to skip the dull stuff.
I’m a little disheartened by how many threads have been made by players who just want to punish people.
Zergs looking for fights absolutely depend upon scouts, roamers, defenders, etc. Who do you think are flipping sentries, retaking camps, protecting supply lines, reporting enemy movements, refreshing siege, picking off enemy roamers, flipping frogs/dredge, getting your server bloodlust, etc., while you are sweeping across the plains like a majestic herd of wildebeest following your commander?
So what if they are also watching television? The jobs still need to be done, and you obviously think those jobs are beneath you. Why do you want to punish other people for being the support squad for your zerg? Yeah, it is boring as hell. If someone is going to be watching GoT, I would rather they were doing it while refreshing siege, so the tower isn’t bare when it needs defense.
Maybe I’m just a cynical kitten who wants the players I kill to be punished beyond just knowing that they lost.
Knowing you’ve lost is traditionally considered to be the worst punishment possible. I think knowing you’ve lost is enough; all the ego bruise, none of the disincentive.
I wish there were portable waypoints, so we could all get back to melting each others’ faces more quickly. Nothing is worse than wandering around without fights.
If my havoc group sees duelers and we realize they are duelers, we’ll give them a wide berth. I’m not out to spoil anyone’s fun. But it is a war zone; sometimes spells will fly, mistakes will be made, and I expect everyone involved to realize dueling in a warzone isn’t … uh…. ‘safe’ seems like the wrong word.
No dueler has made a thread complaining about being killed as far as I can remember. There are many threads complaining about duelers just for existing however.
I can’t either, but I have definitely seen duelers getting upset ingame. We aren’t all in the forums, so threads aren’t really a major concern. Angry chat, we all see.
That said, I sat and tried to think of all the dueling parties I’ve seen, and I don’t remember them contesting keeps (they mostly seem to stick to ruins), appearing in queued maps (which would be a kitten move), or honestly really doing anything that impacts anyone except for the occasional misunderstanding. I am personally filing this under ‘Not A Problem.’

I mean, I love having to hide in a pond in the Grove so I don’t annoy everyone to death when I level boost a toon, but YES PLEASE. Good idea.
I’m on SoS waves at Crystal Desert Invader. I switched from ele to necro this week to practice some, and yeeaaahhhh I feel way less mobile. The thing about the current ‘condi cancer’ meta (or any meta), is that you either have to adopt it as well, or you have to work out a different but effective counter approach. Right now there doesn’t appear to be an effective group countermeta, so expect the whole condi thing to get worse before it gets better.
I think you might have more fun with games if you play a mode because you enjoy the gameplay, not because you are depositing hours into some kind of reward 401(k) plan. It’s supposed to be fun, not a prize contract.
“I mean what is this Game of Thrones where one random guy can become King of the North by flipping NNC?”
I don’t know why, but I can’t stop laughing at this.
I think the territory control on gliding is necessary to keep zergs from being able to bypass siege entirely, like they currently are at Ogrewatch on EBG. Sure, it has some annoying bugs/features, but I think it can be worked out so that the new system adds to tactical play rather than detracting from it.
Pips and chests were introduced for the same exact reason that there are so many clickable chests within chests within chests that ultimately just give you a green and some account-bound mats; taking advantage of the way the brain perceives reward.
WvW was not being correctly marketed as a mode with a sufficient number of things for players to click on/numbers getting bigger.
Now we are supposed to feel like we are getting lots and lots of rewards (many pip much excite) when ultimately the chest rewards themselves are not particularly exciting. The sensations of numbers getting bigger, stakes getting higher, and lots of chests being clicked is what they are going for.
The high number of pips to ‘reward’ the vets is really just to give vets who are already playing some tickets faster so they feel more prestigious than the new players. Keeping new players’ pips low is part of the strategy. It encourages new players to put in crazy hours to chase the extra rank pip and/or grind out those tickets to get to where the vet players are.
This has all been carefully engineered, not to make anyone feel special or rewarded, but to keep players playing.
Mind you, I don’t care; I think WvW is fun, and I’ll keep playing as long as I think it is fun. The rewards keep me from feeling that I am ‘wasting’ lootmaking time, which is great.
But the current pip reward system is definitely made to take advantage of the brain mechanics that keep humans addicted, as opposed to the good of the game mode, whatever that is.
I don’t care, as long as there are also features designed to make the strategy part fun, as opposed to just encouraging us to grind because we can’t help ourselves. Take advantage of our brains to keep the game running, but please also make this more than a slow drip of false reward (i.e. please keep adding legitimate tactics-based updates), or people will just pick something else to do that doesn’t feel as shallow.
EDIT – Note I am not saying chests should have better reward drops, necessarily. I understand the problem of inflation and the need to keep a balance between rewarding players for their time and crashing the economy. But adding ‘achievement’ measures like pips are a way to do this. Don’t take the pips too seriously. Just have fun.

First I want to say that I understand this is an old topic..
but I wanted to revive this idea. WIth gliders coming in, and potentially even mounts, can we see a testing of this idea? This can expand upon WvW with combat in the air.
Just imagine: Each server having ground troops, a navy, and airforce.
hyperventilates
NAVY?!? Would we get boats?
Also, I would die happy (though probably repeatedly) if I got to defend a tower with heavier artillery.
This is awesome, thank you. WvWers being able to change stats will be incredibly useful.
PVE raiders, relax. We are not getting new skins, and us being able to switch stat sets for roaming vs zerg fights (for instance) will in no way impact your PVE experience. Hardcore WvWers don’t even go in PVE, and people who try to cheese WvW to get the stat switchable armor will not get flashy skins to make your raid legendaries feel non-exclusive out in Tyria. This is purely something to increase the maneuverability of WvW builds. The people benefiting from this change benefit in a way that has zero to do with PVE concerns. It will make our game mode more strategic and fun and will not hurt you at all. We will get our switchable stats and run around murdering each other happily in the Borderlands without any thought of one upping PVE raiders. Everyone is winning here. PVE raiders get schmexy skins, WvW fighters get a strategic upgrade. Plus Plus, yes?
I am so happy they changed that delay back. My life is basically trying to keep the enemy from sniping off our yaks in the _ corner of ________ map, so we can get ______ to Tier 3, and a successful escort is sometimes the only participation I get between flipping camps back.
I am having the same problem; I just did the Claw Island Story unlock, and it unlocked for the instance owner and not for me.
Seriously. I have nine toons, and while the task of fully hearing them seems horrifying, the fact that I can collect mats per character is super helpful. So I wouldn’t say alt UNfriendly.
When I play my other toons, and freak when I tap Dodge and no clone rolls out to help me…
From Mad Queen Malafide;
“I think people are most frustrated by the fact that Scarlet always gets away, while she doesn’t really seem all that competent. We’re told that she is a genius, but we don’t actually see her being a genius.”
Yes, thank you. That’s it. Instead of showing me Scarlet’s character through her actions, the writers splatted me with an exposition snowball. Me angrily wiping the wet snow out of my face does not equal me being impressed by Scarlet.
I bought a broom from the Gem Store. On Halloween I was in a dance party, and then started riding my broom. I noticed that my skill bar still had the dance party options on it, so I clicked out of dance party. My broom vanished. Now I have no broom. I submitted a report ingame, and never heard back. What should I try next?
I laugh at the pathetic attempt to close TP!! bahahahahah!
All seriousness, TP is based on sound market fundamental that is being used in all sort of markets in today’s world. Learn to live with it, it is part of our society.
Yes. Like dragons and quaggans.
Involuntary pvp. Yay.
I thought you meant that the suspicious bush itself is the mini …. as in to have a suspicious bush following you at all times! now that’s a mini!
Not only that, it would suspiciously follow you around.
…now i want a mini like that.
Appearing randomly and rustling?
I am so in love with this idea. Mail doves can randomly fly out of it. It can leave a trail of water, or hiccup out ambient spiders.
I thought you meant that the suspicious bush itself is the mini …. as in to have a suspicious bush following you at all times! now that’s a mini!
I would buy this.
I would want mounts like the broom, that gave a 25% boost in speed, non stackable, so my mes can be fast and cute.
Seriously. I am psyched. I hope to see more things be account bound.
You didn’t buy them, circumstances changed, and you lost an opportunity.
It sucks, buddy, but that stuff happens.
No loss exists until it is realized.
Honestly even if you were mix and match the skimpiest of light armor sets in GW2 it still wouldn’t be that bad compared to other MMOs out there .
So? ’It’s not as bad as it could be?’ How about let’s make it way better?
I would also like some less bikini-ey armor. Not all, but some. Not ugly, just a little less ‘I want a sucking chest wound,’ or ‘here are my panties!’
I know this team has the imagination to make beautiful, functional-looking armor sets. A couple more would be great.
You are not a whiner; you are pointing out a sort of inexplicable design choice.
It’s as if as soon as people decide they want something, it’s made nearly impossible to get. Doing this with existing items is a little cruel. Doing it with new items makes much more sense.
This reminds me of the way Massachusetts traffic laws work; everyone makes a U turn there? Let’s put up no U turn signs, and f them if they can’t figure out another way to get there, n00bs.
^ Every mmorpg pretty much is about farming in the end.
That’s why I was so excited when they said they wanted to make something different with this game.
Lots. But, as Talissa says; it’s cheaper than drinking.
I like it. Especially if Anet are going to be making more fights of Teq level need for organization.
It’s different. I see what you mean about the textures… I am not sure I dislike it. The amount of glow is awkward, and I am not sure… I am just not sure. I might end up liking it. I need a week.
Omg! Like the Dream thistle sparkles!!!! happy
It was gut wrenching, yes. And ugly as sin. Not beauty ruined, like Ascalon, or a strange and wicked sea change, like Orr. Just … ugly.
EDIT – Which is NOT to say they didn’t do an amazing job. It’s just an amazing job I am going to have zero desire to look at.
(edited by diamondgirl.6315)
I would like to throw in a vote for having living world updates be more beautiful. There is plenty of destruction out there. I would love to see gorgeously rendered evil, like the surreal drowned beauty of Orr, rather than pure ugliness, like destroyed Kessex.
i received 11 scraps and 1 ticket from key drops so far. not complaining as i don’t think anet intended for everyone to get every skin, every LS.
You get keys as drops? I didn’t even know that was a possibility. I have never received a key as a drop. Literally I thought the only way to get them was from some personal quests completion and from the Gem store, never knew they dropped as well.
This just give more proof that I am the most unlucky SOB in MMOs. Every MMO I have ever played I was always unlucky. I am the guy that had to kill 300+ yetis in WoW to get a quest item to drop, where everyone else I knew would get the drop in under 20 yetis.
RNG has never been good to me. IF there are RNG gods, they hate me.
OMG those F ing yetis.
RNG is maddening.
I just don’t get how that makes sense in a high fantasy adventure game.
This is an MMO, where every single asura PC won the Snaff Prize, every human PC is the Hero of Shaemoor, etc.
It works a little differently from a game like Skyrim. There, if you want to shortcut to the good stuff you can open the cheat console and give yourself infinite gold or whatever. You are the game.
Here you share the game with thousands of other people on every server. For some people, getting the rare skins is the game, and it’s the reason why they play. So Anet puts things into the game for them to work for. And things that are handed out just because, like the skins players get for LS achievements and such. Their enjoyment is just as important as yours, so don’t expect it to change.
If you want to have access to everything in the game, play a single-player game. MMOs don’t work that way.
First, I am not directing this at you, per se, but you brought up some commonly-mentioned points, so I am quoting you.
1. Wanting to be able to play the game and have the pretty toys does not mean you want a cheat code, or God Mode, or welfare, or are lazy. People want to get these items as ingame rewards for ingame work. Using black and white thinking to paint people as lazy is unhelpful and obscures what people are really disappointed about ; ingame work results in absent or random reward. We are not rats; that will only work for so long.
2. No, most mmos ARE designed to put the player through punishing ground for a sliim chance at reward, you are right. I don’t want this game to be Another MMO, So Shut Up And Keep Farming, QQer. I want it to be different.
3. Just because some people only find value in their things because they like to feel smug does not mean we all have to be held hostage to their kittens. I mean, come on. There are so many gorgeous skins in this game; if we had relaxed access to more of them, you would be surprised how many people would pick unexpected ones.
It also means trying to find nonwhorish cosplay is difficult.
I don’t think GW2 needs wvw or quaggan backpacks. So I stay out of those threads.
I think horses would be amazing.
I would love mounts, if they weren’t usable in cities.
Yes, please; drop soul bound for account bound.
This game has a million beautiful skins. It really does. I think people overlook that.
I always support giant sea monsters. Approve.
Also, resetting Lupicus if one person is alive!??? Some of my favorite Arah moments have been when one loony kiter in the party manages to rez us all and save us from a wipe… why take that fun away?
I would like that as well. Sylvari armor is beautiful; a lot of other clothing looks much too color blocky.
Part of the point of playing a game is enjoying the pretty thing the game has to offer. Whether the grind required to get some of them crosses over from motivational carrot to Sisyphean torment is highly disputed.
Sparkly pollen would be amazing. Or like those tiny blue glows in the air in the Grove!
That is really cool!!!
