Fun fact… at a certain level, people will just adjust professions on roster according to meta during preparation phase.

Personally, I queue with whatever profession Im logged in, and then switch characters to whatever is best for team.

So trying to force unique professions kinda doesnt do anything, and it leaves the system open for abuse.

Personally, Id remove that part for teams, since those are most likely to adapt according to roster. Even if you match two premades à 2x mesmers (4x mesmer) on one team, those two premades are gonna switch professions. If they dont, well… might be mesmer is just way to OP ^^
What Im trying to say… punishing profession stacking, when there’s the option of switching professions during preparation phase just doesnt make any sense – especially for teams.

It is a nice idea for soloQ, but I can predict fairly easily… people will start queueing with less desired professions (like warrior or thief in last season) and then switch during prep phase to meta profession, making this whole forced unique professions thing kinda a moot point.

This now leaves open the possibility for a pre-made team to all start as the same class and then switch to their preferred profession once the game starts.

where were you in the bunker meta? The mesmers could’ve use your help to tell the community to stop focusing on what is considered “OP” or not and just be constructive with what can be done in the current (or previous in reference to the bunker meta) state of the game.

I will save my sympathy for players who despite having the greater skill level and knowledge still find themselves being stomped by a build that was overly over tuned and under developed in skill required. When I see statements like, “I have been playing around in test servers with the new ele, it is super fun. Fear the ele.” Then for the next year they dominate..then I feel more for the players. The game never remains consistent enough in its approach to balance that those who have longevity in game are the ones that have the consistent score score cards. Only those with over tuned builds that require below average knowledge to play get rewarded.

I partially agree with you here. Some OP builds are harder to play than others, I don’t think it’s easy to just walk into Mesmer, however it is pretty easy to just swing a greatsword or backstab someone standing still.

I think that the players with longevity inevitably end up rotating through the current meta.

I agree with you on the point that if you have a favorite class that you want to play and it gets nerfed to an unplayable point – that sucks. When someone with less experience than you can walk all over your build by playing an OP class – that sucks, and that shouldn’t happen.

All of this though, again, the discussion of balancing, that’s not really what I was trying to say here. I’m trying to say that there’s a light in the tunnel with the historic way quote on quote “balancing” has been handled in this game since day 1.

This is what Anet doesn’t want, they don’t want every single person playing this game to always shift to whats considered OP, they want this game to be as diverse as possible, although it may not always seem like it.

Here is where you are wrong. If Anet wanted to have such diversity, they wouldn’t overnerf and overbuff a couple of professions as they have been doing for a long time. If anet wanted to achieve the closest possible of diversity, they would work on balance to bring the most professions as possible to the meta, instead of only 3 or 4 out of 9.

They have been doing lazy patches trying to fix symptoms instead of the real problem. As long as they keep doing that, will keep destroying the diversity. It is way past time to the devs to sit down, learn how professions works, split pvp and pve and go review all the skills, traits, sigils, amulets, weapons from core to elite and bring an harmony and balance between them instead of silly fixes that only annoys players.

A good player who have the best game interest in mind, will drop any vendetta or silly biased hatred over a profession just because counters theirs and will claim for a balanced game where all or almost all professions are viable to play.

That’s what some has been doing, the overnerfs were unnecessary and poor handled. Instead of shaving the boon spam, they buff necros; bunker meta was boring, get rid of any single bunker amulet and buff damage from already high damage dealing professions. They announce the new diamond skin but “forgets” to include an important detail it only works when struck. People complain about the lack of viability of different builds, like in case bunker ele, they nerf bunker ele giving absolutely nothing to make up for it. They said the elite specs wouldn’t be stronger than the core but here we are. It is lazy, it is bad and it is making the credibility of this game go down the drain.

People don’t want to drop their professions because, in a certain way, anet said: let’s trash that profession now for, at least 4 months, make it hardly playable. We want things to be balanced and fair and be able to play with the professions we like, not what anet decided to overbuff for the time being to stay competitive.

I think you misunderstood the point i was trying to make. I DO believe that Anet is trying to make this game 100% balanced and have every profession have a 50% win chance against every other profession, however this is definitely not something that is easy to do.

Ultimately what I was trying to say here is that the community needs to stop focusing on what is considered “OP” or not and just be constructive with what can be done in the current state of the game.

I 100% agree with you I want the game to get to that state to, we’re just not there yet if we ever will be…

Every time there is a balance update the forums seem to just erupt with angry people, its to the point where I feel bad for the devs that work hard every day to try to create a game that people will love to play.

I have been playing this game since beta weekend 1 fairly consistently, only really having not logged in for more than a 1 month gap a handful of times. For about the first 2 years of this game being released I only played 1 class – engineer. Engineer has always been one of the more prominent and relevant classes imo mostly because it’s a pretty unique playstyle vs. other mmos and I think Anet always wanted to showcase that.

As an engineer, there have been many high and low points. A lot of times where we got huge buffs and other times where the nerfs made me want to pull my hair out. When the balance patch is in your favor your happy, and when it’s against you you’re probably gonna be angry.

So after awhile I got tired of just rely on one class, and I tried my best to master all of them. I still have no idea how to play mesmer, and since revenant has been out I haven’t really given it much of a go either.

However, since learning to play more than one class, my pvp experience has improved significantly, because there will always be a handful of classes that are tearing it up in the current metagame and its always fun to be a part of that.

This is what Anet doesn’t want, they don’t want every single person playing this game to always shift to whats considered OP, they want this game to be as diverse as possible, although it may not always seem like it.

My last piece of advice here is experiment!! So what if the one spec that you personally really like isn’t very strong right now, try something else, the best builds are always the unique ones discovered by individuals and kept secret from the public.

I just think that there is so much hate on here and only a handful of people trying to be constructive. This game used to have a super friendly and helpful community, lets try to get that back.

I gotta say, i was really excited when i first heard about the whole adventures concept, but what i’ve seen in gameplay so far has been extremely dissapointing to be perfectly honest. When i heard adventures i thought i was going to be going out on an epic quest, not repeatedly burning vines with a flamethrower. Don’t get me wrong, im sure they’ll be great for awhile, but their nothing more than glorified renown hearts. If you ask me what I want in an adventure, I want an open world extension of the story, i want things like mini dungeons and jumping puzzles and hidden boss events. I want a story based objective, i want to do something fun and memorable.

Whoever said “trials” was a much more accurate name earlier in this thread i could not agree with you more.

There is a ton that I want to say and ask in regards to the upcoming Heart of Thorns expansion, but I’m going to try my best to stick to my main points here in the hopes that they actually get answered. I have been an active member in the Guild Wars 2 community since BWE1, and although I cannot say I have been a fan since the Guild Wars 1 or anything before, I can say that I have experienced everything that GW2 has to offer and I believe that I have a pretty good understanding of its high and low points. I am one of the few PVE players at heart and I have stuck with Guild Wars 2 for that very reason. I know this is just my opinion but I have never played another game that has so much attention to detail, and such an immersive and impressive world.

If the community can help me out on this one then that would be great, but I’m really hoping to hear from the devs with this post.

What I’m really curious with this new expansion, and the fact that its being released as an expansion and not a feature pack, is that how will this new content differ from what we’ve seen before and how will it be better? Everything that I have seen and read from development so far has been that they want this new content to be rich and deep and last, and that makes me very excited, but unfortunately I’m skeptical to believe that.

The latest and greatest thing seems to be maps with 2 phases. I thought that these were really cool at first but ultimately what ended up happening was players constantly trying to “taxi” into second phase maps to reap the rewards and then leave to the next one. This really took the fun out of the first phase of the maps and made them more or less pointless. I really enjoyed the last two living story installments for the first little while, but they became repetitive very quickly, and their weak spots became exploited by the community very quickly as well. I spent so much time doing that event over and over again trying to collect enough bandit crests for my luminescent armor that it just stopped being fun after awhile.

The previous living story installments had very little replay-ability in my opinion. I have been a huge fan of the achievement system and working towards collections, but as far as the actual content, and what I am actually doing within the game. Well really i’m just doing the same event over and over and over again. I’m really hoping for some refreshing diversity with this new expansion.

I hope that development isn’t going to try and use adventures and new leaderboards and competition as a way of trying to solve this problem. This doesn’t sit well with me because its turning PVE into something that I don’t think its meant to be. PVE is supposed to be about the journey, I don’t think its supposed to be a competition. It’s supposed to be being proud of what you’ve completed and looking ahead to what your end goals are. Don’t get me wrong, I think that it will definitely add another layer of replay-value to the game but i don’t think its an answer and I hope development doesn’t think its an answer either.

The other thing I would like to discuss here is the progression of the world in the new maps that will be released in Heart of Thorns. What I would like to see is my character progress through the changes in the area as the story unfolds and have the ability to experience everything as it happens. Development has said a lot about trying to create rich challenging community experiences in heart of thorns, and it sounds to me like everything will be heavily group and map oriented like it was in the Silverwastes. This was great for that map, because there was only one objective. But my fear is that if development is packing so much content into only a few maps, and these new maps carry the same mechanics as Dry Top and the Silverwastes, then will there be potential for individual players to miss entire parts of the story? Will the pact fleet say conquer one area of the map and progress onto another while I’m away? Will what instance I spawn in to begin with influence what is going on around me?

I have said a lot and asked a lot of questions here, but the main things i would like to know are this.

1) How individualized and time-dependent will this new content be?
2) What has development done to fix the weak points in the last two living story installments?
3) And this will most likely not get answered but, what do you all really mean by deep and re-playable content? And what will make re-playable content continue to be fun and not just some inevitable grind towards one big end goal?

As of writing this i have 850 hours played on the engineer class, i can safely say that i understand it fully and have good knowledge of a diversity of builds for different situations/tasks. Up until now iv been solo queuing everything and playing tournaments with friends but its gotten to the point were i would really like a dedicated team. Guild Wars 2 was an absolutely fantastic game from level 1-80 for me, and a lot of other people. But once you reach 80, you get your armor, work for ascended gear, maybe you achievement hunt for awhile, but after that all your left with is pvp or to do it all over again.

I for one (I’m sure I’m not the only one) would like to see more pve included in the end game. One BIG way i think this could happen would be to add more 1 time events that run on a cycle. As far as i can remember there have only been 2 1 time events in this game so far, being Halloween and the big karka event.

During the end of BWE3, there was a 1 time event held called ‘Hunger Games’. I’m sure this doesn’t mean anything to a lot of people, but it was a really cool event and helped BWE3 end with a bang. I think that if ArenaNet added more of these kinds of events into the living story, so that the events going on in the world actually built up to something, it would give a lot of players something to look forward to.

The last thing is, that these kinds of events need to be rewarding, and NOT chance based. I personally find that chance takes all the fun out of something because it turns you to grinding, and hating your friends who all end up being much much luckier than you are.

In conclusion, if there were big events, similar to Karka and Hunger Games, that ran maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and produced solid rewards, that would bring new life to the pve end game in guild wars 2. It feels like much more of an impact on the ‘Living World’ to see dozens of players all getting together to accomplish a task.

I have hoped this change would have been implemented a LONG time ago but it seems like it has not been suggested enough or for some reason, people would disagree with this.

There have been countless situations where i have been in WvW or PvP, having a 1 on 1 fight with someone, getting them downed, trying to finish them, and then having a second player come in, finish me being weakened from the previous fight, and then revive his teammate. This is completely unfair.

If you get a player into a downed state, they have lost the fight against you. It is not fair that even though they LOST they can be redeemed just because they were lucky enough to have some other person walk by.

This problem is the absolute worst in 1v3-1v4 battles. There have been many many times were i have gotten 1 or 2 players into a downed state in these situations, but being overtaken cannot win.

I think that removing downed state form WvW and PvP would be an excellent change. It would stop rewarding weak players, and help stronger players ACCOMPLISH something without having to have a group of 5-6 people with them. I’m so sick and tired of trying to find the a downed thief who keeps teleporting across the map, or have a random player come in and ruin a fair 1v1 fight.

Wall of Mists completely ruined

I logged into the game, excited, after todays patch, to be severely suprised by the new changes to the wall of mists skin. Before the patch, it blended perfectly with my quip, and now it just looks stupid. Before it was hollow, and glowed purple mist all the time. I loved how it was see through and looked like a glowing outline. Now its SOLID and faintly glows purple. Worst of all when the weapon is sheathed it no longer glows. These are stupid things that would seem trivial to most, but when you spent hours on end to farm 1000 orichalcum ore, which is what is required to craft the shield (250 orichalcum shield bosses), and you log in to find the sheild you worked so hard for now looks like utter hell, its a bit of a kitten off. This change was completely unnecessary, the shield looked awesome before. PLEASE change it back to the way it was or i will have wasted hours on end of my time.

I find it very very unfair that if you had already done monthly, that is being ahead of the game, you get screwed over on laurels. At the start of this month we had no idea this would be coming out, and no idea that if we did monthly the first opportunity we had we would miss out.

10 Laurels behind everyone else is a pretty big setback, especially seeing as february is right around the corner. Some people will be at 25 laurels with many other are lagging. Normally i don’t mind this but in this case you have awarded the lazy over the hard working.

1) Broken Traits as everyone else has said
2) Our elite skills are useless, supply drop is OK but should have a second click ability to detonate all turrets, also extend time they are alive.
3) Cone attacks
4) Weapon traits affecting kits, off-hand + main hand
5) Improve pistol abilities, the pistol does so little damage that the fact that it attacks just about as fast as a rifle defeats me. Same with the toolkit, the main hand attack has potential but attacks so slow it does not even compare to other melee classes (warriors)

I completely agree, pve and especially pvp the engineer is lacking. I have over 400 hours invested into this class, and at this point i know that its not just a lack of skill. The engineer has very little options, and very little to work with. The obvious intent for engineer is to be strong with condition damage, but conditions do not last very long, and taking stats away from toughness and vitality opens up new holes. The pistol itself should do 150 more damage per hit and the shield skills need short cool-downs in order for them to be effective. Rifle is OK but warrior rifle skills are much better than ours. Potions are good except for the random buff factor, gadgets are a good idea, but when they take up one of 3 available spots, very few players will use them. Lastly kits… Kits are a very unique and good idea, but the fact that you lose the stats from your weapon screw you over. A rifle will have a large buff because of +power or +toughness, and you lose that edge with a kit, further limiting your playable options.

More Weapon choices are needed (hammer), small damage and condition duration increases to pistol, shorter cool-downs on shield, and sharing all the aspects of your main hand weapon with kits, would make a very strong improvement to the engineer. Lastly, i forgot to talk about turrets. Turrets are very good in pve but terrible in pvp. Almost all classes have support npcs they can spawn, rangers have pets, mesmers have illusions, etc. But turrets have very little health, and once destroyed take a long time to replenish. This is compared to the mesmer were illusions can be summoned 24/7, and those things dont do a small amount of damage either.

Obviously you guys are very busy with the january and february content updates, but please, once you finish these things, show some love for the engineer.

Engineers and Legendary Weapons

Over the past 2 months, i grinded away for my legendary pistol, the whole while, crossing my fingers that the new animations on the legendary would also affect the engineers kits, to my disappointment this was not the case. Currently, engineers only have access to three main hand legendary’s, while other classes have access to between 6 and in the case of the warrior, 11.

The whole idea behind engineer was the use of kits, and i think that it is very unfair, and unjust that hardcore players get screwed over on this class just because it is impossible to have a legendary kit.

Nearly 3/4 of the animations that would be need to be made for kits are already there, the grenade kit already has animations from the throw grenade F4 skill, and the basic auto attack would suit many other aspects of kits. I’m very certain that your designers could have fun designing new animations for the flame thrower, and maybe add colored bombs to the bomb kit.

Having the choice of only 2 main hand Legendary’s, i think that carrying over the animations to kits is very much deserved and would be a very awesome improvement for the engineer. Recently sigils were added to kits, and i think this would be a perfection to the class. I would love to see and hear what my fellow engineers have to say, as well as what those from Anet think.

So, how did everyone like Wintersday?

I thought wintersday was the worst event yet. Tixx Infinarium was the same everyday, the jumping puzzle was super easy, and new weapon skins werent nearly as cool as halloween. Also, new armor stats dont make sense for almost any build except maybe a guardian or elementalist, but even most of those wont use them.

The entire chance aspect that arenanet has built this game around frustrates the hell out of me. If you want to get the unique item from the event, you have to buy it straight up. Chances like 1 in 20, 000 gifts to get an unbreakable bell is rediculous.

So what it initially cost 35g, well in most situations thats all the money people have. I hope in the next event it is more like halloween were you have to complete specific tasks in order to get the specialty item (mad kings memories complete). But make it alot harder so that its not instantly a cliche item.

I feel the exact same way that you do. I am currently going for a legendary, just because its really the only thing that there is to do, and this process has pushed me away from the game like no other. In particular i find aquiring the 250 stacks of each T6 mat the most tedious thing i have ever done in my life, and there are a number of reasons for this:
1) Everytime i find a new farming spot, a week later its nerfed to uselessness
2) There are very few mobs that drop the items you need
3) Diminishing returns makes farming impossible
4) Orr events have been nerfed to almost uselessness for items

I just wish that ArenaNet would leave the game as it is and stop nerfing everything, i honestly feel like you guys WANT me to buy gold at this point. Please, help make farming reasonable and INTERESTING make more than 2 types of mob drop an item that i need 250 of.

You guys are all on the right track. Yes you can get exotic level 80 items from mob drops but the chances are very very small. Cursed Shore is the only area where iv found exotic 80 items and theyve always been from either killing a new mob for that day or from champ or veteran drops. Try crafting an armour set, a masterwork grade is good enough and not to expensive, with all magic find and then gem in addittional with platinum doubloons. This will give you the highest chance of finding these drops.
