I made it to legend in s2.
Im finding I have really bad MMR in sapphire right now and games are a nightmare.
For me, meta changed and what I was playing before became unviable, I had to try to become ‘proficient’ with a new build against other legendary players right off of the bat being placed immediately in sapphire, vs. being able to work out the qwerks in my build in amber against are wider range of player skill.

For me this resulted in a lot of hard games off the bat for myself, while other legends who maybe played mesmer or revenant and didnt really have to change their playstyle necessarily, probably would have had an easier time.

Essentially last season i was slowly able to build momentum from the beginning with matches, and this season its just been hard from the get-go. Hopefully this will balance out later on, it will probably just be a slow season for a lot of us!

LFG Revamp for PVP

I think the LFG tool could use a bit of a revamp for PVP.

Currently nobody really looks at the PVP section in the LFG tool because everyone just assumes that anyone posting in there is a newbie looking for a carry.

I would really like to be able set an LFG saying I would like a level “____” player who plays “____” this class and is rank “_”.
And unless the players who see my LFG actually meet these standards they should not be able to join my party.

I have found it increasingly more difficult as time goes on to find a group of friends to team up with, and current matchmaking throws me into a pool of people in my rank range (whatever MMR mystically does) but the range of classes can be anywhere from 5 theives to a proper diversity of classes.

Often times players only play 1 class and people don’t want to switch. I think having a tool that allows players to set up their parties before-hand would have a big positive impact on matchmaking.

What does everyone else think? Would you use this?

Why are we complaining about warrior being OP? When mesmer has been on top since season 1? Warriors are crippled by blinds and power builds. They are really only a hard counter to necro.

Chill out, the meta changes every season, none of this is new, I’m glad warriors got a breath of fresh air.

Matchmaking seems good. A lot more enjoyable.

Shards of Glory - New rewards?

So far I’ve accumulated over 1000 shards of glory from playing pvp and daily pvp rewards, and im not sure whether or not I should let these keep taking up space in my bank.

I have been low key hoping that the pvp team will implement new rewards (I’m hoping similar to the laurel vendor) for shards of glory, OR EVEN offer laurel bags through the pvp vendor for shards of glory.

Has anyone heard any news on this? @Evan Lesh, are you able to comment on this topic?

I think the current state of the game gets too much hate.
I have to agree without a doubt that pvp, wvw, and pve would all be better if the skill/profession balance was independent from each game type.

This is something that players have been asking for for years and it should be clear to everyone that anet doesn’t have the resources to do this, furthermore it probably isn’t worth their time. Right now the entire staff is full fledge into building more living world because this is where they get the largest player base out, this is where they get the most gem store sales aka revenue. If it isn’t profitable for them to keep developing the new legendary weapons (which were promised to us) do you really think it would be profitable for them to rework the balance system for the entire game? Maybe. But how would you prove that it would be if you were a systems designer that had to submit a proposal to their boss. The guy who come in saying we should build more living world! Is going to get approval every time.

The pvp and balance teams are really just damage control because thats all they have the power to do, and it is very apparent to me that these people work very hard.

All that being said, I think we need to chill. I have always loved gw2 because of the imbalance, I don’t understand why everyone hates on it so much. What other game is as dynamic as guild wars 2? That gives you build options in combination with a dodge/evade system on par with the monster hunter series while also provided the greatest artistic graphics in any mmo ever made.

There have been so many times where I’ve gotten ridiculously frustrated with this game and tried to play something else, but in the end it just doesn’t have the same overall feel and I always come back to gw2.

The imbalance is epic, there have been so many times over the past 2 years where I’ve been experimenting with builds and come up with some cheese that just annihilates everyone (which I have found quite nicely in the current meta). What other game lets you feel like such a god? We are all on the same playing field, we can all choose any class we want in pvp, and are free to experiment with whatever combination of stats and skills we want. The meta is never the only viable set of builds. The skill in this game comes from your ability to theory craft and execute.

I think we all need to embrace pvp and look at why we are still playing this game after so many years!

It’s the simple age old argument of skill/reward.

The biggest most obvious skills in the game all belong to Ele: churning earth, dragon’s tooth, meteor shower, ice spike, eruption, lava font (it starts doing damage a full second after it appears on the ground).

and yet those skills are some of the worst and most unrewarding skills in the game.

Their all PVE oriented really, and i think that’s what they were intended for.

Warrior gun flame is the biggest most obvious skill animation in the game and has a channel time that feels like forever, it is super easy to dodge, and if it does land it takes up at most 70% of a players health. AND THIS IS THE SKILL GETTING NERFED???

All of the Mesmers i’ve fought in legendary leave the Moa on the backburner until they need it, as soon as you think you’re about to get them down, you get moa’d.

Its ridiculously imbalanced. Duration 10s – 5s. Thank you.

Check your facts. Moa has a longer cast time than gunflame and a slightly more colorful animation (but to be fair, both skills could use better visuals). Moa is incredibly easy to dodge, which is why mesmers use CC to set up the moa. The more skills the mesmer uses to set up the moa (like shatters to burn dodges, CCs to ensure success), the fewer skills he has to deal follow-up damage.

The Moa+Csplit combo that definitely needs some nerfing, but spouting ignorance and misidentifying the issues doesn’t help anyone.

Okay i agree with you. To clear up what i meant, i wasn’t really considering ground effects as those kind of speak for themselves no? (Don’t stand in red circles, this is obvious to me) I was referring strictly to player animations. My point was i still feel that signet of humility cast animation isn’t high-key enough for what it accomplishes. Fair?

Every fractal is pure easy mode compared to what they where when they first came out.

When you had to complete 3 to get any progression.
When you had to use revive orbs in order to complete fractals 30.
When fractal runs took 2-4 hours lol.

I don’t think anyone here wants to see Mesmer written off from pvp.

The fact is that if you open with double shatter, throw a few big attacks etc. its not very hard to force your opponent to dodge twice/use their block skills before attempting to moa them, and you have two chances.

Any good Mesmer will have no problem landing their Moa in 1v1, please don’t try to tell me its hard to land the moa….

The ONLY change I wanted to see to Mesmer this season was a reduction in the duration of signet of humility, that’s it. 10 seconds is a very long time, I think it should be 6. 10 seconds is enough time to obliterate that player, mesmers have enough CC and immobilize for the moa 2 and 5 skills to be useless over a 10 second period, with 6 seconds it gives the moa’d player enough time to kite.

And with increased alacrity up-time and potential double moa, the long cooldown will not be any kind of a factor for any good mesmer. If you land moa the first time, then you can revert back and skip the cooldown. If it takes you two times to land it, then you can rely on your alacrity to decrease the cooldown by 33%…

If you think that moa is the only good thing about Mesmer you are not very involved in higher divisions team play.

1. Mesmer carries the team by controlling 2 points at the same time with portal plays.

2. Mesmer is the only class w/o hard counters (Meaning its the best 1v1 class in game).

3. Mesmer can Moa 2 persons at the same time, turning a fight into a 5v3 for 6 seconds.

Those 3 alone have been carrying teams for the whole season.

Go and watch last night ESL and see by yourself.

Mesmer is still OP – the ultimate class 1v1 and extremely strong in team fights with tons of utility.

Signet of Humility is still the only complete shutdown skill in the game – and being able to use double moa makes it even more OP.

Mesmer doesn’t need big nerfs, but there are some looming issues that should be addressed.

Returning Player - is HoT needed?

Ascended and legendary gear is on par- this is still the highest tier in the game.

The vast majority of the PVE player base is in the HoT areas and raids.

The only thing you will be “ok” for is fractals.

You are at a HUGE disadvantage in PVP without elite specs as every metabuild is currently an elite spec and that isn’t likely to change.

I would recommend just buying the expansion as you will enjoy the game much more with it.

PVP one is easy too make IF you are good at PVP – you need cross 10 divisions which is easy for some/not for others.

Also consider the fact that you will need minimum 2 pvp seasons, so you’re looking at 6 months of time – which is probably why gold wise the backpack is less intense than other legendaries.

If you are eager to get a legendary back piece, go for fractal, the legendary is supposed to finally be obtainable after today’s release.

Does anyone know if there are any graphs or data showing when the peak player base is on certain maps/areas? I logged in last night looking for DS meta and all i found in LFG was a million people looking for raid groups.

The suggestion I have been constantly making is to use the off-season to determine each players MMR for when the ranked season begins, that way we don’t all start off together in one big kitten pool.

S2 was definitely better than S1 for me.

S1 my win loss was just pure 50/50. I only made it to sapphire.
S2 I made it to legendary. I was stuck in MMR hell for awhile, I played as much meta as I could, and eventually as the season went on, more bad players ended up in ruby/diamond and made it easier for me to progress to legend.

Whether this is good or bad for pvp overall is a different story. I don’t think either season really hits the nail on the head though (obviously).

The problem is that legendary is really it, sure you can try hard on the PVP ladder but when you see the top guy is already prestige 15 and there’s no reward for getting there, well it’s kind of discouraging.

The need to extend PVP rewards in Legendary division, give legendary players an incentive to keep the prestigious rank competitive.

PVP rewards have ALWAYS been super exclusive to top tier PVPers, and The Ascension is already imo way too easy to get.

Before there was the Ascension there was Legendary mist walker armor, and i don’t think anyone ever even found out how to make it before they removed it from the game!

The llama mini used to be exclusive to top tier ladder players before it was handed out to anyone via the new tickets.

But nobody ever complained about those things, and do you know why? PVEers didn’t care, and just because some shiny new set of wings come around that are only available in PVP all of a sudden, the PVE kids are mad.

If you want the ascension, play pvp, and earn it. Because that’s what we’re all trying to do, we don’t necessarily want it for just the skin, we want to feel the prestige of showing it off. And that little bit goes away pretty quickly when all the PVE kids are running around wearing the 1 valuable reward that’s exclusive to PVP.

Auramancer ele, in a 1 v 1, can almost afk on the point if they own it against condi shatter Mesmer.

Unless they are moa’d which is a very common occurrence.

1 v 1 against a Mesmer, it’s easy to read their moas. It usually accompanied with continuum split and tides of time. 1 v 1 there isn’t anything else to really dodge.

If you take two players of equal skill, chrono and tempest, the chrono will land their moa 9 times out of 10.

Hello folks,

I have been playing engineer as a main since beta weekend 1 and have come to know a thing or two about the class over the last.. has it really been 3 years (wow).

I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about how engineer isn’t fun anymore, and I 100% agree, the current pvp meta is super crazy boring imo.

So i made a scrapper build with the only goal in mind of killing mans and it being fun to play.

This is flamethrower+hammer. You will always have 16 stacks of might, in combat the superior sigil of force will always give you 25 stacks of might when using flamethrower.

Use invisibilty to your advantage, this build is almost like a want to be thief. The amount of damage you can do with this build (full stacks of bloodlust and 25 stacks of might) is crazy, and jumping into a teamfight you can easily wipe a whole enemy team (just don’t become the target lol).

I like to stack might to 25 and then switch to hammer, then skills 5+3, its an instakill (if you land it) on any player with a power build.

P.S. this is definitely probably not and is not intended to superceed the meta, this is pretty much just a fun build for cheesing ppl

I had a few ideas for how matchmaking could go down in season 3 that I would like to share.

A few problems I have with the current system:
-MMR hell
-Poor players don’t have good opportunities to learn from better players
-High level players trolling lower divisions (ruby in particular)

What if we added options for the types of players you want to be matched against upon queue?
1) Players with a lower MMR than you
2) Players with same MMR as you
3) Players with a higher MMR than you

-Queuing with option 1 would need to have an alternative reward to pip gain/loss or reward pips at a much slower rate.
-Option 2 is more or less the current system
-Option 3 would give players the opportunity to learn from how higher level players play and should give an accelerated volume of reward

My hopes here is that instead of high level players trolling lower divisions, making alt accounts, etc. They would choose the option to queue against lower level players when they get tired of playing in legend. Players who queue against others with a higher MMR than themselves would have an opportunity for their own MMR to adjust more accurately upon victory. Players who choose to play against opponents with a higher MMR than them would be directly paired against the opposite group of players choosing to play against an opponent with a lower MMR than them.

I think these kinds of changes would give Glicko different opportunities to calculate more meaningful games and generate a more accurate MMR for players. This also doesn’t force any individual player into any of the 3 situations.

You’re being unfair here. Many top tier players that actually bothered to address the issue agree that there are problems. If it get fixed they will still win and progress, do not fear, but their matches will become more enjoyable. I doubt it’s much fun to get blowout after blowout if what you are after is challenge.

Most of those that try to deny the problems are either whiteknights that always defend Anet, or, more often, people that got carried high above their skill level.

I agree. Many of the top players do sympathize with the average player base, however I don’t think that group of players is enough to form a vast majority.

Use common sense here: look at you teammates, do they play the same as you? Look at all these “top players” streaming, do their teammates play the same as them?

When you see some ESL player streaming from a brand new alt acc with a fresh MMR of 1 (which can be argued as above average) and they start going at it, the players they are paired with get closer and closer to their level as they proceed – Hence this absolutely DOES NOT disprove MMR hell.

When you see a GOOD player streaming who claims they are stuck in MMR hell, look at their teammates, look at what their teammates do, it is so obvious to me. When you see someone winning 1v2s while they have 2 teammates capping home at the start of a game, or you see the same person constantly running far and dying the whole match… It’s just so obvious.

I’m disappointed in the community on this issue.

I agree, there really needs to be a limit to class stacking, no more than 2 of the same class per team (in matchmaking system).

The real reason queue times are so bad right now is because of how many people have given up on PVP for this season due to matchmaking frustrations.

If anet released the data for player volume you would see the strong decline since start of the season.
