Acidic Coating and Bombs?

in Engineer

There is a trait that has a 50% chance to inflict blindness with “Melee” attacks. Do bombs count as a “melee” weapon?

If it is just referring to Tool Kit or something else, I wish it would just say that.

Thanks.

Rifle/Static Discharge PVE Build, Help Please

OP again. Looking at the December update notes, did they just nerf the 10/30/0/0/30 Static Discharge builds? Apparently they are taking Incendiary Ammo to Master tier. I have been enjoyig the burning on crit from those 10 points. Now I need to spend 20 points to get that? I’d like to say its negligible damage, but its really not. So are most of you SD folks going to go 20/25/0/0/25 now? I hate the thought of lossing two Grandmaster Traits though. What would you suggest with a SD build now, in light of the announced changes? Thanks again.

Has Anet considered Elite toolbelt skills?

fourhim.3584

I’ll selfishly admit that I’d like another tool belt skill for another Static Discharge use, but in the grander sense I think it would be a nice mini-upgrade to the Engineer. They wouldn’t have to have near the same power as an elite skill of course. Just another thing to click on with a cooldown, preferably, of 30 seconds or less.

Have they talked about this at all?

Rifle/Static Discharge PVE Build, Help Please

in Engineer

fourhim.3584

I’m level 43 now. After experimenting with bombs, grenades and flamethrower, I’ve decided that rifle/static discharge keeps me alive the best while doing good damage from range. I use Healing Turret, Rifle Turret, Tool Kit, and Battering Ram. I mainly took those because of the longer-range, low-cool down Tool Kit skills. The Battering Ram is also an excellent way to get enemies off of me if I get swarmed. I never switch to took kit, mainly because I’m just lazy

At 43 I am 10/13/0/0/10, and it is doing well as I level. I think I want this character to be my crit damage one. There is a trait that gives + 10% against enemies with less than 50% health, and another that gives + 10% above 600 range. As an aside, Static Discharge can crit, right?

The build will of course end up as 10/30/0/0/30. What I’m most curious about is what gear, runes and sigils to use.

Gear – Assume I can purchase Rare stuff. I know most people use Berzerker’s, but I want to take a high crit chance approach this time. This means Assasssin or Rampager. Assassin is great because I can get really big crit damage, and often. Rampager on the other hand would seriously boost my burning and bleeding damage. Which of these would be better as I explore the PVE world?

Sigils – I would have one rifle to build up 25 stacks of Precision, and then switch to another Rifle. I’m thinking about the following: Accuracy (another 5% crit chance), Earth (60% chance to cause bleeding), The one that gives a 30% chance to gain Might?, and Force (5 % damage). Which one of these would you recommend, or is there a better one?

Runes – I really have no idea here. If I’m stacking Might maybe I would want to extend it. I’m also tempted to just get a set that grants +25% speed (Centaur I think?) Yes I know about Speedy Kits, but as I said I’m too lazy for that. Or something that adds even more Precision/Crit chance/damage perhaps?

Anyway, thanks very much for your advice.

Healing Cleric bomber "tank" for PVE?

in Engineer

fourhim.3584

Sorry, just theory crafting again. If I decide to go the bomber route, I’d like to be both sturdy and do steady damage too.

Has anyone considered/tried a 20/0/30/20/0 bomb build with exclusively Cleric’s gear?

Cleric’s Gear offers Healing as the Primary, and Power and Toughness as the Secondary stats. But in this build ALL these stats would be adding to power.

Forceful Explosives, Explosive Powder (larger bomb radius, +10% damage with bombs, and +200 power)

Energized Armor, Power Shoes, Elixir Infused Bombs (10% of Toughness is added to power, + run speed in battle (personal choice here), 10% of Healing is also added to power, explosions cause group healing, + 300 Toughness and + 300 Healing)

Protection Injection, Backpack Regenerator (Protection when stunned, Healing every second with bomb kit, + 200 vitality)

There are other benefits, but you see the main ones there. I’m only level 25 now so I don’t know what final stats would be at 80 in Exotic (all I will likely be able to afford). I don’t know about the best runes either, but for sigils I would do bloodlust to get to 25 stacks, and then perhaps force and night. I was thinking about Rifle and Rocket Turrets to help with ranged enemies, and I think that when they explode we get healed too? I don’t know which Elite I would use, but the Charr arial bombardment one might be a nice AOE to add.

In theory this build would be good at self or group healing, be very survivable to just bunker down and outlast the enemies, and also do decent damage after the power from 10% of Toughness and Healing is added in.

Again, this would be for PVE and maybe dungeons. I know nothing about PVP or WVW because I haven’t tried those yet.

Also, I’m not claiming any originality here. I’m sure someone has tried this before. I just wanted to find out how it performs in advance. Thanks for reading.

Perma-crit/condition FT build viable for PVE?

in Engineer

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I’m only level 22 now, and using bombs with great success, because it seems the best traits for FT is at the higher levels. (Please, in advance, do not mention grenades. Tried it – hated it. If they can give them an auto-attack then I’m on board.)

But I really want to use FT when I get to 40 and beyond, frankly because its just so fun.

Has anyone ever tried a full Rampager’s build where you focus on the highest possible crit chance, lots of Might, and lots of condition damage?

Forgive me for not knowing the names of all these traits, but I’m still new to Engineer.

I was thinking 10/30/0/30/0, or 10/30/0/20/10 (mainly because I’m already addicted to perma-swiftness for leveling purposes).

I would use the sigil that gives + crit chance to get to 25 stacks (another 250 precision), then switch to the Might on Crit Sigil and Accuracy sigil (+5% crit chance).

I THINK I would be around 80-85% crit chance at this point, AND doing a lot of condition damage even before Might (especially for foes less than 50% health). With Fury it would be 100% crit chance.

Again, in theory, if I take the Burning on Crit trait, then the first tick of FT blast (or whatever I’m using frankly) will start the enemy “burning”. I THINK this would make all subsequent ticks of the FT do another 10% damage. The burn would last a LONG time (basically permanent burning) and do a lot of damage because of all the condition damage.

Add to this the bleeding inflicted 1/3 of the time, and all the Might stacks (which also add even more condition damage), and in theory it could pump out a ton of AOE damage. Again, I’m just thinking about PVE exploration. I don’t do WvW or PVP.

Even without boosting crit damage, almost every hit would be doing 150% of its normal damage, + all the other bonuses.

Anyway, it sounds like something I would enjoy. I was just curious if anyone has tried it. Thanks for your input.

Might on Pets (PVE)

in Ranger

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I’ve been having fun with my hp-buffed Jungle Stalker after the patch by moving from Berzerker’s gear to Rampager’s, and getting many stacks of Might on my pet. They also buffed his F2 ability (which gives Might to both of us).

I use the trait that says every time I crit my pet gains a stack of Might. Since Might boosts power and condition damage, I wanted to use a Pet whose auto-attack does condition damage, and the felines add bleed (on the third strike I think). I use the Shark underwater.

I usually run sword/torch, with the sigil that has a 60% chance on critical to add a bleed. With 25 stacks of Precision + Accuracy + Spotter I’m usually over 80% crit chance. (20/25/25/0/0 build).

What I’m wondering is what other pets I should be looking at for condition damage. I know there are some whose F2 abilities do so, but it would be even better if they have it in their auto-attack.

Thanks for your help.

Sword better than Greatsword? Explain.

in Ranger

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

OP again. Thanks for the great replies everyone. I understand it much better now. Sword seems to always do more damage.

My next question then is regarding what is better in traits if I want maximum damage – 20/25/25, or 20/20/30, or neither?

I want at least 20 in power for Spotter and also for when I pull out a bow. At 25 in the second line I get + 10 % if I am “flanking”. I assume this means attacking from a monsters side or even behind them. If I’m in melee this seems less likely, unless I am patient and let the pet engage first. At 25 in the third line condition damage is going up, and I do 10% more damage when over 90% health. What frustrates me at 25 in that 3rd line though is that I can’t get the 20% reduced cooldown for the sword AND the offhand. But if I go to 30 in that line I could get both on a 20% cooldown (sword/torch or sword/warhorn). But to get to 30 toughness I’d have to drop the Precision line to 20 points, losing my bonus when “flanking”. I’d also lose 50 points of precision, but I’d gain 50 more in toughness and condition damage.

I use Berserker gear, so my only + condition damage would be from the toughness line and stacks of might. I use the jungle stalker pet with sword/torch because the might helps the condition damage of sword 3 and torch 4 and 5, and the pet deals bleeds of his own. I may consider trying a shortbow for a change too.

Also, with 25 stacks of accuracy, I’m at about 75% crit chance before Fury. I took the buff that gives my pet Might every time I crit, and it has been a big help.

Thanks for the trait advice.

Sword better than Greatsword? Explain.

in Ranger

fourhim.3584

I’ve read here that sword is our highest DPS melee option, but I’m not seeing it in the skill descriptions themselves. Granted I’m only level 66 right now, but I’m curious what I’m missing.

A few minutes ago I was in Harathi Hinterlands (level 36 or so at the time), and I just swapped weapons around to read the descriptions. Greatsword auto was something like 294, 294, 347 over 1.75 seconds. Sword was 251, 251, 293, and I assume over a shorter time (I forgot to write it down). Greatsword’s 2 skill is Maul, which did 854 damage and added 5% vulnerability too. Sword’s # 2, if you include the sting and the leap (which takes a while) does 700 damage combined. Greatsword (swoop) is a gap closer and does 534 damage, Sword 3 does 655 if you include the poison damage.

Now if you factor in off-hands, then I can see sword doing better. I actually really enjoy the torch offhand, not just because seeing enemies on fire is fun, but because they are both “fire and forget” abilities that do DOT damage while you do other stuff.

What I have noticed in PVE so far though, even though sword and torch is more fun, is that I take more damage with sword/torch. The “root” of sword auto-attack, the fact that it sometimes it not an easy AOE auto like Greatsword, and primarily the fact that for over 1/3 of the auto chain I am evading with GS. Greatsword’s other skills seem to have pretty short cooldowns as well, but again I forgot to write those down. For single targets I find that most enemies are almost dead after GS 3, then 2.

What am I missing in the “DPS” calcs? Is it the offhand weapon? Have others had a similar experience? Thanks for your help.

(I am shooting for 20/25/25, and for ranged I use Longbow).

PVE Ranger - Focus on my damage or the pet's?

in Ranger

fourhim.3584

I’m leveling a Ranger (level 44 now), and I wanted advice on how to get the most damage done. I am running full Power/Precision gear, and I have access to all utility skills (although I’m lazy and prefer signets, especially the one for run speed).

I am liking the longbow a lot better than I did at first. What I do when I first arrive in the area is equip a sword/dagger with bloodlust on each and get to 25 stacks. Then I swap those out for my Longbow of Force (+3%), and a Sword of Force and Dagger of Accuracy.

What I’m most curious about are the best traits to kill things the fastest.

Am I correct that at 20 Marksmanship (with Steady Focus and Eagle Eye), 25 Skirmishing (which gives another 10% damage when flanking), and 25 Wilderness (+ 10% when above 90% health), this would increase my Longbow damage potential by 35%? If so this seems pretty significant. Is this the best/optimal damage setup for a solo Ranger?

I know that melee technically puts out damage faster (or so I hear), but it seems I would more often lose the flanking and “above 90%” bonus if I did so. Is melee still better than longbow when you factor this in?

An alternative I was thinking about would combine Marksmanship with Beastmastery, which in theory could make a pet that does respectable damage on his own (I use Drakes and Felines primarily).

The two reasons I’m more hesitant to buff the pet now are: 1) The enemy is sometimes dead or close to dead from by bow before the pet even gets to it, and 2) Pet health (defense if you will) is about to be buffed next week anyway, which might free up those BM points for other things.

Please advise a new player/ranger on the best PVE setups you have found. Thanks for your help.

What does a PVE condition warrior look like?

in Warrior

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I’m tired of the old Greatsword or Axes thing, and I want to mix it up and try conditions on a Warrior for a while.

I’m assuming I would use Longbow and Sword/Sword? These weapons seem to have the most condition damage (bleeding and burning). I see that Rifle also causes bleeding, but it seems that burning does more damage and that Longbow is better for AOE.

So what would my traits and gear look like? What about Runes and Sigils? Is extending the length of the conditions most important, or is raw condition damage more important? (Conditions cannot crit, which sort of stinks IMO.)

As I stated, this would be for PVE and MAYBE Dungeons as well, but I don’t do WvW or PVP. Thanks for your ideas.

A general question about Runes

in Necromancer

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I got my first character to 80 last night and now I am seriously looking at runes.

What I don’t understand is whether or not you are allowed to get “stacking” effects from multiple runes. Specifically I am wondering about condition duration for right now.

For example, there are several runes that once you are wearing two pieces they give + 15% bleeding duration. Since I have 6 armor pieces, if I put one of those runes on two pieces, another rune with the same effect on two more pieces, and finally another rune with the same effect on two motre pieces, would they give me +45% bleeding duration? Or does that game not allow the exact same bonus multiple times? I assume that all runes work the same way?

Thanks very much for your help.

Is 30 in Blood really so bad for PVE?

in Necromancer

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I’m level 64 now, and this is my highest character. I am PVE only so far.

I took the advice of you guys ankitten ow using Lich Form or Plague for those “big fight” moments. But I’d like to try to avoid needing them at all if possible.

Right now I have 30 Spite (with + Axe damage/cooldown), 10 Curses (for ground targeting of wells – good for champions), and 14 Blood (with + health on crit). At 15 Blood every hit that I do will gain me a small amount of health. I have Power + Precision gear and sigils, so my crit rate is around 50% at all times. At 20 points in Blood I think my Well pulses will give me additional health (and be on lower cooldowns), and at 30 in Blood I do an additional 5% damage when above 90% health.

My “theory” is that by using abilities that have a lot of hits I can heal a lot more, like Axe 1 (two hits) Axe 2 (8 hits), Axe 3 (up to 5 enemies I think) + Warhorn 5 (locusts that pulse every second, potentially hitting lots of enemies each pulse) + Wells healing on every pulse. About half of these hits will also crit (if I understand the process correctly), which results in additional healing. Is this correct? Keep in mind that I also get 5 seconds of Regen once I drop below 90% health. I’m also considering the healing well instead of consume conditions, as it heals allies too, AND I could get the cooldown to 32 seconds instead of 40. And of course, with 30 points in blood I’d have another 300 healing power and 300 vitality, so better heals and more health. I also read that the next update might help Necros who use the Blood line?

Anyway, will this setup serve me well at level 80 in roaming PVE content, or do enemies just hit way too hard at that level? I’d still have Lich and Plague in reserve of course, but I’d rather not rely on those so much to keep me alive.

If I ever run Dungeons, WvW or PVP instead, 0 in Blood and 30 in the Death Shroud line seems to be more popular. Is this correct?

Please keep in mind I am a “newish” player, so if this all a dumb idea, please be gentle Thanks for your help.

What are we "expected" to be able to solo?

fourhim.3584

OP here again. Level 64 now. Just wanted to say that I have implemented some suggested changes and I am liking it. I bought both Lich form and Plague, to be used only when I see a big fight coming up, and they work splendidly. In Lich form, spamming number 1, most Champions being ganged up on start heading straight for me, so the damage must be respectable. I think I may like the Stability that these offer most of all. I am also going Axe/Warhorn now instead of Dagger/Warhorn. The damage seems to be quite similar, but I feel safer with the axe since I can attack from a distance. It also works well in the Might line, since I can boost axe damage and reduce the cooldowns. With 25 stacks of Perception I can get to 50% crit chance also, which seems to help. I was going with Bloodlust before. Is Perception better at this level though? Thanks again for all your help.

fourhim.3584

Thanks for some great ideas. I’ll have to try some of these when I get back from work. I do have about 50 unspent skill points, because I hate the idea of long cool downs and did not know what else to get. I like the idea of substituing the blinding well for the run speed signet (which I don’t need once the fight has started), but that 50 second cool down time really stinks. I guess it will just be used for those particularly hard fights. I have never tried Plague or Lich form, again because I hate the long cool downs, but they both sound great for this type of scenario (especially plague). I will probably switch the heal as well before tough fights.

I sort of like the idea of trying axe, but I haven’t had a rare axe drop for me yet, and as I said, money is tight. I have less than 5 gold right now. Armor is also around level 40 still I’ll be on the lookout for one though and try it out.

What are we "expected" to be able to solo?

fourhim.3584

I’m level 56 now, but still running around level 15-35 zones for completion. I’m basically focusing on Power/Precision with Dagger/Warhorn (although sometimes I try Dagger/Dagger). I’m decently geared (this is my highest character, so money is tight). I use sigils of bloodlust to get to 25 stacks, and then switch to sigils of force instead. I run with the healing minion and the flesh golem, the high damage well, blood is power, and the locust signet (for running speed).

I can solo probably 95% of the content so far. Enemies die fast to the well + dagger. One on one, or even two on one, anything short of a champion dies quickly.

I know I’m not expected to solo champions, but I figure that a couple Veterans should be doable. What I’m finding though is that in certain spots they just cram so many enemies together, and/or the Veterans have the ability to call/spawn even more enemies, and these are the places where I die. I’m probably not using death shroud correctly. It’s more my go-to when I’m about to die, instead of using it for additional damage/protection. Its just that the dagger auto attack does so much damage so quickly.

I can’t get real specific, but Gendarran had a couple places like this. One was an Ettin cave, with a Veteran and 4-5 regular Ettins around him. Also near there was an area full to the brim with Ice Elementals, at least one Veteran, and I’m pretty sure he summoned more. The respawn rates in certain areas seem higher than others also. There was a cave in the 15-25 Norn area with a big metal golem (Veteran) in a cave surrounded by Dredge. There might even be two golems – I just know there were a ton of enemies in one very small space. Once my minions die I am sure to follow shortly after (which annoyingly also drops all my bloodlust stacks).

My main question is regarding if the game designers “expect” one player to be able to kill so many enemies at one time, or if certain parts of PVE maps are intended for multiple players instead?

Thanks for your help/advice.

Abilities that say they “transfer” X number of conditions to an opponent – those just transfer NEGATIVE conditions, right? I certainly don’t want to give my Might and Fury to that enemy just to stop my Bleeding, for example.

Like I said, sorry if this answer should be obvious to me and I just missed it somewhere. Thanks for your help.

Please help a new PVE Mesmer to level faster

in Mesmer

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I’ve been playing for about a month now, and I wanted to try a Mesmer, because they looked fun with their “clones”. I am PVE only right now. My other characters are 33 Necro, 26 Ranger, 23 Warrior, 22 Guardian and 20 Engineer. Of these others the engineer was a pain at first but got much easier once I had bombs.

But my Asura Mesmer is level 8 now, and it has been an agonizingly slow 8 levels compared to the others. I started as I usually do and bought cheap (fine) versions of all the weapons that he can use from the TP, and then ran around in the easy starting areas killing things to get all the weapon skills. (Wow those offhand skills take a long time to get.) After trying them all out, at level 7 I decided on Greatsword to start at range, and Sword/Sword for when they get closer.

I read in these forums that staff would be good, but found that 1) I need to stay close to kill faster, but I take a lot of damage while the conditions stack, and 2) The auto-attack pulls unintended nearby mobs, which is a huge problem for me.

Sword/Sword is my most survivable setup right now, because of the built in Evade and Block, and it seems to do great damage as well. The cooldowns seem low as well.

Regarding Utility skills, I am seriously under-impressed so far, unless I am just missing something. I have not bought them all, because the descriptions of what they do are so vague. I’m actually using the Asuran Pain Inverter the most, as it is a decent AOE at this level. I’m looking at Phantasmal Defender as my possible first 3 point skill? Is that a good survival skill?

Observations: When I come from my Necro main to this character it seems like night and day. The “power” Necro can drop one well that melts everything in seconds, gets permanent pets, has a lethal dagger auto-attack, has a massive health pool, AND has the additional advantage of death shroud. In comparison this Mesmer seems extremely weak for soloing purposes. Also, these “clones” seem like they do nothing, and they die extremely fast. The phantasms have better attacks, but they attack super slow. And all of these “helpers” go away at the end of each fight anyway.

What am I missing as I near level 10? What do you consider a good PVE setup for levels 10-20? Thanks so much for your advice.

Is Minion Master better for PVE now?

in Necromancer

fourhim.3584

I am still new, and enjoying my 23 Sylvari Necro a great deal. I’ve gone all power with Dagger/Warhorn and Staff and Wells, and I’m breezing through everything comfortably.

My son and I would really prefer to see the minions out and running around, but I got so sick of them dying so quickly.

If the supposed update is correct, should we expect Minion Master to be more playable in PVE at all levels of the game, since they will supposedly have more health? If so, what is a good MM leveling build?

P.S. Does Minion damage scale with my own Power level, or is the only way to boost it with that one trait?

Thanks for your help.

Which of these two for PVE leveling please?

in Warrior

Posted by: fourhim.3584

fourhim.3584

I am still new, and level 22 Warrior now. I have no interest in PVP or WVW. My son and I play this just to explore the beautiful world of Tyria and to kill monsters (He has a 20 Charr Warrior, mine is Human.)

Anyway, my 3 favorite weapons with Warrior are Greatsword (duh), Longbow, and Axes. I’ve recently been experimenting with Axe/Mace instead of Axe/Axe, based on what I have read here in the forums.

For PVE, assuming my son and I went with Greatsword and Axe/Mace, I’m wondering which of these would do more damage as we level. (Again, realize that we are new and practically broke, so we don’t have uber gear. We usually just buy all the + Power stuff we can from the TP) Also, do not assume we are grouping together. We only have one account.

30/10/0/0/30 – This is a tradtionally advised setup that I see. We do run with 2 or 3 signets usually (lazy I know), so we take the added Precision trait. At max level that last 30 there gives + 15% crit chance with full adrenaline (and adrenaline fills up quickly with the 30 points and also Axe auto and hundred blades). On a side note it seems the Axe bust attack is better than greatsword. Is this correct?

30/10/0/10/20 – I saw this advice recently, which utilizes “Empower Allies” to give an additional 150 power to everyone, including myself. This is more “group friendly”, though I rarely group, but it would result in about 6-7% more damage for us, and a slightly larger health pool. What we lose though is 10% crit damage, gaining Might on Weapon swap, and 15% extra crit chance when at full adrenaline.

So which of these two would be best for us as we level up to 80 in PVE only? Which is probably going to dish out damage faster?

Thanks very much for your time and your advice.

Hi guys,

I’m still very new to the game and I wanted to play an Engineer as soon as I saw several of them in-game using their unique gadgets. I just hit level 11 last night, but my first few levels were quie frustrating compared to the super easy Guardian, Warrior and Ranger. Even Necro has been much easier for me than Engineer.

I really want Flamethrower to be my default PVE weapon. I am EXTREMELY frustrated at the lack of auto-attack on Grenades and Bombs, so I want to steer clear of those even thought they may do more damage.

My problem with flamethrower though is that enemies still get close enough to pound on me a while before they finally die. So I guess I want step by step instructions on how to safely/efficiently use Flamethrower at level 11. I put my first trait point into Firearms btw.

What I am using right now are 2 Malign Pistols with Sigils of Agony? (the one that accumulates +5 condition damage). This seemed best because of such things as bleeding/poison/burning that pistols + FT creates. But it seems that they are NOT adding 125 condition damage with 25 stacks at this level. Are these “scaled” in some way at lower levels? If so, where is a link to what levels they will do more damage at? At this level should I use sigils of bloodlust instead, and do those affect the flamethrower damage?

So should I start with pistols, let them get close, use blowtorch, drop glue puddle, then pull out the flamethrower (since thy’re hopefully burning by this point). Should I use the tool belt ability that makes my next 3 attacks cause burning on the very first attack?

What stat should I be looking for in gear to kill things the quickest? Power, Condition Damage, or Precision?

Lastly, what other abilities compliment flamethrower the best? I am Charr, so I have had some success with Schrapnel Mine (causes cripple, which is nice), and also Rifle Turrets.

Thanks very much for your advice. I REALLY appreciate it.

Which sigils for a new player please?

in Players Helping Players

fourhim.3584

I’ve only been playing about a week now, so please be gentle

I have a 22 Ranger (my first character), for PVE only, and I usually run with Longbow and Sword/Torch (I like the burning effects).

I use Sigils of Bloodlust on everything to get the 25 stacks of additional power.

My question is, then what? I keep the 25 stacks even if I switch weapons, so I feel I need other weapons with other sigils to maximize my potential.

I was thinking Signet of Renewal on Longbow, since it doesn’t give any condition damage that I can see.

What about running Axe/Torch after I have the 25 bloodlust stacks and using dual sigils of bursting, since I’d have 3 attacks there that do condition damage? For that matter, does anyone run Axe/Torch and use the other Sigils (forget the name) that builds up additional condition damage to 25 stacks instead? (The main reason I don’t is because the Longbow does not deal condition damage)

Another idea I had, odd as it may sound, is having Sigils of Impact on all 3 weapons. This is because I’ve been using the Sylvan Hound pet a lot recently. I realize their damage isn’t terrific, but the regen is nice, AND they knock down their enemy, which helps to keep us alive longer. This would give me additional damage when they are knocked down.

Thanks for your advice.

Help for a new soon to be 20 PVE only Ranger?

Hello everyone,

I just bought the game about a week ago, and I really enjoy it. I liked the idea of having a pet, so I made a Ranger. I am having fun, but I don’t know how to guage the progression of all the “builds” that are out there, because they all show the end result at level 80. So can someone please give me some good advice on what to do at level 20?

I was saddened to learn recently that our pets damage was generally reduced back in June. Because of that so called “nerf”, should I forego putting any points into Beastmaster at all? I do like using the Jaguar, Drake, and a couple others, and its the main reason I picked the class in the first place.

Right now I use Longbow and Greatsword, and I put a Minor Sigil of Bloodlust on each, since I tend to stay on one map for a long time. I tend to do fine unless I get swarmed by multiple enemies at once. Other than Barrage and the Greatsword I really haven’t found a good way to deal with multiple enemies at one time. I do like the fire effect of the torch, but I don’t know what I would take in mainhand if I used the torch a lot.

Mainly I just want to know what setup would allow me to get through PVE the fastest at level 20. I am also only 3 skill points from getting my first Tier 3 ability, and I’d like advice on that too. I was thinking the Regeneration one, for survivability, but I like the AOE effect of the Lightning Sigil as well (Call Lightning), since that seems to be where I am weakest right now. I have put my Trait points into Beastmastery, but I can change that easily. I was wondering if Marksmanship and/or Skirmish would let my pet and I kill faster.

Anyway, please let me know if you feel that Pet builds are dead for PVE purposes now and if I should run with other weapons/abilities instead. Keep in mind that I am a POOR first character here, still learning so much about the game each time I log in, and that this is my first post. I am on Tarnished Coast server and everyone there has been helpful as well.

(Also, is the Moa a good pet if I want more healing?)

Thank you in advance.
