I agree with this thread. Tons of great ideas here.

There needs to be some change (I don’t know what) to get people out of those three locations in Orr and spread evenly throughout all the zones.

I wish I could upvote Silencer 100×. I play 4+ hour sessions almost every night and have never encountered DR.

Maybe some people are getting hit with it via bugs and that really sucks and I’m really sorry for that and it needs to get fixed if that’s the case…but my guess is a lot are actually causing it to trigger legitimately. My favorite are players who bounce between Penitent and Shelter’s Gate then wonder why DR kicks in…or even worse, people who just squat Penitent.

I always get the same.

Just like others have said…If I surf the forums (not logged in) then find a thread I’d like to reply to, I go and log in and return to the thread. It won’t have any of the per-post forum tools (the ones that go with each post – eg: quote).

But then if I post anything (just a straight post), all the per-post forum tools appear.

We know all of that.
Everyone does.

Let’s see those pointers:

if someone is completely down, ignore them (you’ll also go down)
This should NEVER be something you are supposed to do. It’s true that there’s time to revive and times to void doing so, but in this event, more than 9 out of 10 times you try to revive someone, you are knocked down and killed in less than 3 seconds.
Anywhere else I’ve been able to revive people under fire by popping an Arcane Shield followed by Obsidian Flesh, you can’t do that here.

if you go completely down, run back (don’t be upset no one rezzed you)
Corpse-throwing tactics are not something anyone should do either. The point of a combat-oriented action game is to stay alive, unless you are something like compsognathus in Dino D-Day or a boomer in L4D, but there’s no professions like that in GW2 (there were necrobombers in GW1, but those were an aberration)

you can skirt the red circles by a hair and not get hit – position your camera high up over your head so you can see them easy
You can’t. The red circles appear late, and hit outside their area. If your character model is very big, like a tall norn or charr, this gets worse. 1/4 second of lag, and you are down, as you won’t see the circle in time.

if you do get hit, run across the bridge until you’re out of combat and heal up. The burn can easily kill you
If you get hit, you are dead. I’ve seen the thing one-hit killing level 80 players with level 80 blue&green gear. The burn WILL kill you, I even tried traiting to lose burning when dodging. It gets instantly re-applied when leaving on of those killer circles. And often there’s more than one of them, plus countless AoEs from Embers.

if you can, run in (avoiding the circles) and don’t hit any embers to focus the boss
That’ll give you about 5-20 hits before the embers focus on you. And that’s only if there’s at least 3 other people around. And since you can’t deal 20 hits in the time it takes for them to die, let’s make it 10 tops.
10 hits, and then you ether run like hell to recover or get downed. Or get downed while trying to run away.

you can stand right next to the boss (melee) IN the big flames and not get hurt – but the second you start taking damage, GET OUT (and across the bridge), you’re in an ember’s ground aoe and now have a burning DOT
This doesn’t work. I tried that. Embers focus more on those that are in there.
Also, right around the elementalist the killer running flares spawn. There’s no visual cue indicating they’ll come out from the main body of elemental they just pop around, so in your way to ‘inside’ one often spawns right there, and you’ll hit without even seeing what hit you. And those things down anything they touch.

if you want to go after embers (too many are in the area and need culling) do it but be prepared to run out and dont go after the boss while going after embers at the same time
They’ll get quickly revived. If the number goes down, the next killer circle will spawn one.

dodge the flames that run along the ground – the burning will kill you – if you get hit, run across the bridge until you’re out of combat and heal up
That’s easier said than done. Each ember can spam more than 4 AoEs every 5 seconds or so, and they start right away, without a warning. Getting out of one i’s easy, and you get little damage. But here, when you dodge one, you’ll fall into 4 that started right after you dodged. And last time I tried, you could not dodge mid-dodge.

if you get hit by an ember (knocked down) use your anti-CC abilities and then run across the bridge
Unfortunately, even if you use stability and get away, the burning and damage will kill you anyways, even if you also bring condition removal.
And it doesn’t matter if you are able to get away. You’ll have to go back in to deal more damage, so you’ll have to wait for those to recharge (stability and condition removal skills have the slowest recharges), completely breaking the pace of the battle.

All of those, ALL of them, would be solved if none of its attack dealt more than 33…50% of the HP of the average level 15 player with level 15 gear that visits the event, and each ember could create only a single AoE every 5 seconds at most.

MithranArkanere.8957 sorry if you don’t believe me. I didn’t lie. This is how I do it every time and it’s one of my favorite events. I’ve done it more than a dozen times.

It seems like you’re playing a different game than I am. My points are very straight-forward.
But you can, as you have, discount them all simply for the sake of backing your position of “this event is impossible” and not learn anything. Doesn’t change the fact that my points are valid.

Addendum:
—save your dodge for when you are running to the bridge – you will need it! Using it while fighting will only land you in another ground aoe.

Scale Karma & XP based on real level, not adjusted level

garraeth.3267

… So you are suggestion to get rid of Orr? …

Nope, my suggestion is to scale Karma & XP based on your real level, rather than your adjusted level.

If there are content issues beyond that, those should be addressed, but are not part of this suggestion. However, players that don’t want to go to Orr can already go to Frostgorge Sound.
More options (being able to go to any zone) to have fun, gain karma, and gain xp, seems like a win-win for everyone.

Eventually, there will be more & different zones available to max level players via expansions. This suggestion simply expands the “max level” content to potentially be the entire game, rather than a few zones, until that time arrives.

I so totally agree with the OP. In fact I suggested this very thing in an earlier post. Sometimes I feel like going to Orr, other times not. I don’t want to LIVE in Orr however (I don’t, but I know a lot of people farming feel like they are required to).

Might have to tweak the down-leveling a bit to make sure that the really low levels are hard enough for lvl 80 chars — some are really hard, others are stupid easy…so some tweaking should probably happen. But otherwise, yes please!

For the 1st time I have received so many in game mails to the point that my mailbox is full. Unfortunately mails coming from gold selling spammers.

Really? I’ve gotten 3 and my /age is 272 I’d get several each day in WoW. I think you might be using hyperbole.

OP: Great thread! A lot of your thoughts were mine as well – which is what drew me to GW 2 too.

It’s awesome that ANet rewards people for exploring and discovering.

I LOVE these little “easter eggs”!

GW2 is Fun-Centric, not Reward-Centric

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

garraeth.3267

I have to say I agree with the OP completely. In fact, I was trying to find an articulate way of saying this myself, so thank you for saying it for me.:)
This game is about playing the content. I LOVED Rift- until I realized that I would have to “hurry up” and get past the game to have any fun with those who either have the time or wish to blow through content to get to “the fun”.
I honestly think that the lack of a sub really frees the devs to make the game “fun centirc”, or the way they envisioned it. They don’t need to keep you playing! I know it is hard to grasp, but they don’t. They have already made a boatload of money and will continue to because, for a lot of us, the experience of playing IS the reward.. Basically, if you don’t like it, you are free to go. Try it out in six months or so. Might be more fun for ya. Might not. It does not matter. NO PRESSURE on us….NO PRESSURE on them.
If you like to “smell the roses”- like me- then this is the game for you. If you scoff at that, go play something else. Then, come back when an expansion come sout, and play it for two weeks before you get bored again.
I LOVE THIS GAME. Thanks for finally thinking of people like me when designing your MMO, ANet. There are many happy people out there who feel exactly as i do too.

I totally agree with the OP and JesterJeff.

If you’re looking for a WoW/Rift/SWTOR/SW/Tera successor, GW2 ain’t it. And I really hope they stay pure and never cave to people frustrated that it isn’t another WoW.

In addition to OP and JesterJeff, it seems a huge thing people just can’t seem to wrap their heads around is that the game is not built to grind in the same manner as a WoW-style game. For example: say you need mat X for whatever goal you have. Mob A in Zone drops mat X, so you sit in Zone forever grinding away killing Mob A. How boring. Why turn GW2 into that? But so many people are trying to do that by either playing GW2 like that, and/or complaining on the forums that they CAN’T play that way. It boggles my mind.

So many people complaining about how much karma they need and how hard it is to “grind” it in Orr. Then I go to Orr and see TONS of people sitting around waiting for DEs to spawn and then spending 5, 10, 20, + minutes running them over and over and waiting, waiting, waiting until the next cycle comes back around. When if they though outside the WoW-box, they’d realize that they could go do ANY DE in ANY zone and get karma – sure not 350, but 250 and spend 2 minutes doing the DE vs/ the 20 minutes they sit and wait around in Orr for the next cycle to come around.

I’m sitting on 110,00 karma and barely hung out in Orr. It’s not hard to get karma. I’ll have another 100k in a few days. And I hang out in ALL the zones – depending on how I’m feeling at the moment.

Mine copper with Orichalcum pick, have chance for Orichalcum, etc...

in Suggestions

garraeth.3267

Goal:
—Get people to play in all zones across the game.
—Reduce some player frustration regarding harvesting tools (see “Benefits” below).

What:
—mining any node (copper, iron, etc) with Orichalcum pick gives high chance for mithril and low chance for Orichalcum.
Same chances for tier gems. eg. 75% chance to also get 2 mithril ore or 75% chance to get tier 5 gem. 5% chance to also get 2 Orichalcum ore, or 5% chance to get tier 6 gem.
Draw parallels to harvesting (eg. harvest onions with Orichalcum sickle and have 75% chance for additional tier 5 and 5% for additional tier 6, same with wood, etc)
—if this is implemented, communicate to the players.

Benefits:
—more players feeling “ok” with going to all zones
—players not feeling like they have to swap out gathering tools as they move from zone to zone: ie. less hassle for players, less frustration when they realize they forgot to swap them out, less time looking stuff up outside of game (figuring out which tools to equip when in X zone)
—more gold sink since players are “ok” with only buying Orichalcum harvesting tools.
—great feeling, and rush, of “oh wow! I got 2 Orichalcum from this copper!” (positive psychological effect on players)

Cons:
—might over saturate the markets
—might cause some players to “expect” Orichalcum (or high tier mats) from all nodes, and get upset when they do not get any (negative psychological effect on players)

Just an idea! I haven’t done the math, nor am I game designer.

Thanks!!

Anti-Farming script

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: garraeth.3267

garraeth.3267

So many of these posts. imo the mods need to consolidate them all.

On topic, and completely 100% “imo”:

—I hope they keep aggressive anti-farming code in the system. I don’t think removing/reducing this is the answer.

—I hope they make the rewards for playing in ALL zones equivalent to those in Orr.

—I want to see an even distribution of players of all levels throughout all zones (obviously following the current appropriate zone level requirements).

—I love many of the zones and don’t want to have to basically live in Orr to interact with the general player base.

—With this said, it will require a lot of retraining of the playerbase to help them understand that they are not required to stay in top level zones to “grind” or “farm” or play the game. So, it goes back to ANet to really communicate this to people.

—DEs in low level zones give ~100 less karma per gold. And, imo, an “ok” tradeoff for being able to play in any zone I choose. But that’s just me and I know a lot of people will be put off with the ~100 less.

Just my $.02!

Something to get high lvl people to low level zones

in Suggestions

Posted by: garraeth.3267

garraeth.3267

It would be nice to have a more even spread of players across all zones than all the 80’s piled up in Orr.

From my relatively small circle of friends, their issue is the ~100 less karma per DE gold.

And, not being able to get high level crafting mats.
Granted, I have also heard concern that if high level crafting mats dropped in low lvl zones, it would be tough to get them for when you’re starting a profession (discounting TP usage). So maybe a mix: some level appropriate, some higher?

Even with ~100 less karma, I think a lot of people would be cool in the lower level zones if there was more communication about how it’s not so bad to “grind” for karma or even equipment drops in the lower level zones. I took a friend through who had this concern (he said: “hey, I’m wasting time in low lvl zones if I’m trying to get karma”) and illustrated that a 2 minute DE in a low lvl zone gave him about 250 karma, while a 5 min one in Orr was ~360…so if they spawed fast enough in the low level zones, it would actually be faster to “Grind” karma in the low level zones.

Anyhow, just another idea/wish!

Thanks much!! You guys rock

Just because the blue dot on the waypoint’s blue triangle is tough to see when you’ve zoomed in enough to click it to travel to it. And sometimes it looks like the blue dot is a blue triangle or visa/versa.

This is for cases of trying to follow party members around the map and they haven’t put the waypoint into party chat.

Not a huge issue, just a nice thing to have.

The warrior is one of the most fun and exciting classes to play imo. And I’ve tried thief (also loved), elementalist (also loved), guardian, mesmer.

I love the fun of broadsword+double-axe swapping and running in and out and all around the mobs. Just cutting them to shreds. So fun!

And my 7-0 skills just add to my mobility and cc to make it even more powerful and versatile.

Underwater I simply destroy with my spear. Pull out and hit mobs with my speargun when I start to take damage.

Troll's End Jumping Puzzle is not for Norns

in Norn

Posted by: garraeth.3267

garraeth.3267

I’m reposting this from http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/56949-trolls-end-jumping-puzzle-is-not-for-norns/
…because imo, the devs need to look into this issue. It’s not just the Troll’s End jumping puzzle, but throughout the game. It seems like the QA team didn’t test a good chunk of content with the larger races. Another place, off the top of my head, is the ship bridge in Lion’s Arch – entering the first ship requires Norn to walk to the northern entrance, while all other races (maybe not Char) can enter from either doorway.

From the link:
"
Go and try to do this jumping puzzle in Lion’s Arch with a Norh, it’s nearly impossible:

A big Norn is just too big for the cave part of this jumping puzzle. It is a total mess, when you try to go through this with a Norn. The camera is often useless, it just stops sometimes if you are going towards a wall. I don’t know why ArenaNet changed this jumping puzzle, it was cool enough before release:

But now it’s unplayable with a Norn.
"
