thank you to the wonderful DPS warrior PUG from the other night that was kind enough to explain to me exactly how i should be playing my Necro. I really appreciate you typing instructions in the middle of combat to tell me which weapons i should be using to dps hardcore. I am sorry that you died during these instructional tutorials however I am too busy concentrating on my rotations, and combat movements to reply in the middle of the fights. I only wish i was so focused on DPS rather than supporting the team, staying alive and killing the enemy. It must be very comforting to be so dedicated to a single minded, narrowly focused part of the game.

Trust me, i have taken to heart your brilliant insights and see the folly of my ways. I will ensure not to PUG with you again.

i am really enjoying my necro alt. i am looking to build a fun, yet useful build. Its for PvE only and dosnt need to be totally l33t. i am looking to use celestial gear (again fo fun).

“Perception and Bloodlust”

have you tried these.. Killstacking sigils, such as Bloodlust, will not allow you to get multiple different types of kill stack (you can’t have Bloodlust and Perception)

for crit built im experimenting now between bloodlust and perception (power/precision) on sword. Running Blood (30% heal chance) on focus. helps me survive the condition damages when shouts are on cooldown. working so far in PvE.

im finding the sigil of blood and the sigil of perception are keeping me alive and getting me upto 73% crit solo..

also moved 5 from virtues into valor for more aegis. bit more playtime and i’m really finding this playstyle runs well. Might get into a group or 2 and see how group buffs work with the food.

i’m swapping 7 between Retreat, WoR, Bane, purging flames.. depending on the encounter.

My take aways from the responses

• Spam your f1 like there’s no tomorrow. blinds = damage mitigation, and also give vuln = kills stuff faster.
• Stay mobile with this build
• Focus 5 is a blast finisher so you can use purging flames to get some nice long might stacks at the start of each fight.
• Make maximum use of blinds and aegis. If you don’t have blinds or aegis available again yet, make sure to dodge often.

And in all, it works for me.. maybe not optimal, but certainly more fun/dynamic than AH/EM with GS.

Wow… what a difference. I feel like an d/d ele… that ah was soooo keeping me alive. This is much more dynamic.. I get the build to around 71% crit chance with food buffs and solo. Dont want to take on multi mobs too much. I grabbed scept/torch for switch. All in all it feels very different and may take a bit of getting used to.

what other runes could be used? Need vit to stay alive specially with low armor.

Been GS/Staff all my guardian life and mostly AH/EM, so its a big breakaway.. also any tipss for this style of play would be great.

You will get a LOT of T6 mats when you make your mystic clovers.
Make the mystic clovers first.

i wish… im poor so im trying to gather mats to craft ascended… i did 7 10X mystic clovers.. ended up getting 50 clovers and only 40 t6 mats… so now im thinking if might be worth going legendary over ascended. i wouls bank on the clovers… RNG either hates me.. or loves me.. im not sure which with those results.

this build is working for me in PvE… just want some constructive thoughts, feedback on the build and stats.. is it ok, where can the improvements be made etc…

right now i jut kinda run a shout/tank build and (greatsword) dps best i can.

trade out off weapon to staff, scepter, hammer etc.. when needed

so feedback, good, bad, indifferent… how would this run in WvW???

PS: its been slow o get here.. heck i havent even run fractals.. jsut dailies (laurels) and guild runs (commendations) etc… o even tho i might have some acended, it aint from experience

so i have recently levelled my necro. Carrion armor and rampager trinkets. Problem is the build.. i am looking for something that is good at both cond and direct damage, maybe not the best but its what i’m trying for.

so my problem is weapon choice and build. Right now i have a 30/30/0/0/10 build and run scepter/focus as main (no idea on a good second weapon set, trying them all)

what would be great is a build that is kinda both cond/power, maybe not great, but good at both if possible. i’m thinking one-on-one damage and aoe. Weapons i’m liking scepter/focus but would like to include staff (cause deathwish is a nice skin)

so any advise for a wannabe necro.

so, ascended does in fact have that bit more when doing a valid compare…. like every upgrade in GW2. ascended is a wee bit better than exotic which is a wee bit better than rare etc… i think the only real value in exotic over ascended is if you mix jewels with item. example zerker with valk or cleric with zerker etc…. but then, why would you.

Arrrgggghhhhh!!!! yup that just about says it all. im venting my frustration. If your reading then you prolly askin’ what and “what the”??

The answer is:

Puzzle jumping as a norn. Oh god how i hate it. i even remade my norn to be the smallest norn i could and i still hate it. my little princess of a human, no problem but the norn and camera angles… suuu…uuuu…uuuck!

and the other world completion. im @99% just got the top borderland in WvW to complete and my journey to legendary weapon can continue… but guess what.. my server isnt the greatest in WvW (no problem, i could transfer but that costs more than i have soooo..i wait). Sure i hope to get it beat cause i need my WvW badges anyway, or get a revolution around to start in that portion of the map…. aarrrgggghhh.. seems to alternate to the borderlands i already have completed…

the grind… so it’s not all bad, i don’t mind the grinding, just the farming changes for the drops… everywhere is dead. southsun has killed the resale in karka shells and flowers, orr changes killed farming there, so im stuck, running longer farming schedules for less income (either mats or resale). i seem to have bad luck… only exotics i ever get is map completion, no drops. i run my dailies, monthlies and events for blues and greens (and the wonderful bonus chest yellow). My cash pile is building, its just soooo slow, and my map completion is going even slower.

So that’s it, rant over. sure you can respond negatively or positively, that’s up to you, i’m just venting cause i need to get it out somewhere.. the wife just doesn’t get it, hope some fellow GW2 nerds will. And for all those grinding out you’re legendary or plying a norn in frustration or whatever is giving you grief, remember there are others out there that feel your pain. Stick it out, i’m sure, I hope, the wait is worth it. :-)

I have an elemental for MF, a guardian for PvE and levelling as minions master for WvW. My question is wot is a good build for necromancer WvW @ level 80?

r u sure.. leveling is one of the easiest and fun things to do (atleast the first few times). you gain experience for just about everything in the game.. Exploring, killing, (heart) quests, gathering, even crafting. then you have jumping puzzles, mini dungeons and guild events or even resurrecting/raising folks and npc’s. If you are having problems with enjoying the leveling and the diversity there, repetitive dungeons, possible farming, fractals and even world events and dragons are all going to be a big disappointment.

Relax and enjoy the whole game., there is something for everyone and you should be able to find a part that suits you, your time available and gets you leveled in a fun and enjoyable way.

don’t know if this helps, but here goes anyway…..

Play the elementalist and level dagger/dagger. When you hit a decent level, change to staff if the play style suits you better. The reason i suggest this is the difference from WoW. GW2, to me at least is a much more dynamic, involved game. You cant stand back and not get hit, you cant stand next to a boss and tank, you dont have the trinity roles etc etc.

by playing a squishy cloth elementalist in melee, you will, by the necessity of survival, learn more about the game, learn to dodge, duck and move, where and when to lay down your spells and the style of game you want to play. Then when you get to the dungeons, fractals and wot not, you will be much more involved in the game play and your survival rate will increase.

In GW2, unlike many other MMO’s there is more than 1 way to skin the proverbial cat.. When you say zerker gear, the stat priority is power/precision/crit damage.. gear and traits should hopefully take advantage of synergy in a build. Understand why you want zerker gear first, then perhaps good advise can be had. perhaps sayin’ build for zerker gear you don’t mean all armor, trinkets, back, sigils, runes etc all zerker.

My suggestion is to search the forums yourself, and tweak the many, many, many builds to suit your style, objective and budget. Maybe post something that comes close to what you want/think, and ask for advise tweaking it, rather than generic call out.

I don’t mean to sound harsh/bad here (im no expert and have sought advise too) but so many times i have read folks looking for the golden ticket without goin to the search function, or even previous posts. sometimes it helps you to help yourself.

also has sigil of accuracy so another 5% crit and knight armor with runes of soldier for clearing debuffs. trinket mix is nothing special cept for 1 ascended zerker ring

pve focussed. dungeons, fractals, exploring. current setup for greatsword and scepter/focus swap for the range….
so the question, what’s the overall feel for sword/board over greatsword. looking to keep up the dps (as best I can) but thought might be worth exploring shield option. don’t want to go down that road if its not worth it. thanx for replies

OK, so its simple but im upto Arah and killing Zhatain in the personal quest chain.. i see arah explore parth 1,23 but how do i need to complete for zhatain??

Also, if i enter as explore with a group and finish, can i then open later or must i finish story mode first??

Missing trinkets (dunno how to add in but you get the idea, i hope). so the numbers are a bit off, looking for around 40%ish on crit chance and 60%+ on crit damage.

Idea is to crit and build might, boons and self heal along the way.. i think its called an AHEM build.

just for general PvE goodness and dungeoneering.. no fractals, no WvW, no PvP, just plain ole wandering.. change up from my elementalist.

welcome to my first post (i think). I’m looking to build a guardian and i have little experience so looking for help.

I have scoured the pages in the forum and come up with the following build. Can i get some criticism on it and where i might improve.

so its a Norn, and an alt (to my elementalist). dont think will ever make it to fractals, probably solo mostly and hit group events with occasional dungeoneering. Weapons will probably hammer and greatsword (for funzies)

same issue here.. dont think this sounds isolated….

i got the patch and played for hours and after a bit of sleeping, get the same connection error msg (for the last 4 hours atleast)..

Oh and im on Fergusions crossing… dunno if that helps anyone but, cant hurt
