Race for a revenant?

already got 4 sylvaris(ele/necro,mesmer and ranger) but i like that style and my revenant will simply become another sylvari.

Rev Weapon Swap Proposition

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

you base your idea on engineer toolkit-swap, which unlike legend/weapon-swap has no cd. Then there is also a nice synergy between shiro and hammer skills, so just staying in shiro mode and swapping weapons is already the optimal solution. Using the jalis legend with swords looks interesting too.

Why Revenant Elite Specialization

PS: you have to admit locking tomes of knowledge off for a while after launch for Revenants is a good idea lol.

here i have been collecting tomes of knowledge just to avoid leveling a ninth profession to level 80. What do you want me to do with those tomes ?
you can go on and level your revenant all you want, mine will be upgraded in the next minute to level 80 instead and i will have just as much fun with him as you or even more because i don’t have to play those low level events and can jump already into the jungle with a complete set of ascended gear…
HOT will completely change the endgame and once you are level 80 you will still have plenty to do if you want to complete all those masteries that are waiting for you.

50 energy cost is the same as 10 sec shared cd. If you do nothing but spam JW then you can cast it once every ten seconds without using any other skills beside it. And here i thought a thief would know the mechanics and effects of a shared cd. The thief is actually a shiro stanced revenants nightmare. a new easy target to pick. Just like the original shiro was killed thanks to the actions of an assassin. imho you are comparing apples to bananas and have been proven wrong countless times in this thread.

Glint speculation.

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

glint will be special and i wonder in what way it will change the revenants mechanics, like we have seen with the other elite specs so far.
Other than that it’s rumored that the glint spec will get a shield and utility skills will consist sompletely out of signets.

[Poll] Energy OR Cooldowns, not both

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

both, after introducing weapon swap and utility skills having short to no cd at all it just makes sense. If you remove one or the other the class would have to be rebalanced from the ground up. I would like to get some energy management traits in the invocation line though, just like all the other professions get a way to boost the cd on a weapon or get a larger energy pool, like the thief does.

Still lack of swiftness skill. The only class

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

Impossible Odds gives <Super Speed> which is faster than regular swiftness. Because this is an upkeep skill, when out of combat you will have 10 seconds of super speed before you need to refill your energy.

Upkeep skills can’t be used out of combat because of the way energy regeneration works. When not in combat, energy regeneration pips go to 0 in order to keep the Revenant at a resting 50 energy. Upkeep skills require that the Revenant have pips to get rid of, because they all cost more than the 5 pips that would bring a Revenant from 0 pips to -5.

Upkeep skills will be usable out of combat, Roy’s already confirmed this in a comment he posted somewhere on these forums, they’re making a tweak to the energy mechanic that makes it possible.

(Something like allowing energy to regen out of combat but capping at 50 energy ooc)

we actually saw it working already in todays POI stream. The 5pips were always present, even though the energy is limited to 50 out of combat.

true but it’s a boon and mallyx can convert those.

Revenants can now spam their elite skills ?

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

Not sure if you noticed, but each time a Revenant swaps legends, there is a 10sec cooldown. Plus Jalis elite is a 3second(?) cast time, very easy to block the use of it via interrupts.

ah ok, i thought in the stream it has been said the legend swap cd has been removed or can be traited to become instantaneous.

Revenants can now spam their elite skills ?

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

If i got it right you can now basically do this:
swap to shiro legend gives 50 energy -> cast jade wind
swap to jalis legend gives 50 energy -> cast rite of the great dwarf
swap to shiro legend gives 50 energy -> cast jade wind

rinse and repeat …

dunno what to think about it, but maybe i just missed some important info ?

A Dynamic Solution for Energy's Problems

makagoto.1204

I’m pretty sure I saw a Roy quote in the past few days saying they’d already internally fixed the energy regen problem.

/rummages in Dev Tracker

Aha. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/How-to-Improve-Revenants-ideas/first#post5272356

I don’t know if that answers the concerns in this thread but it does seem on point.

it’s only on point for the upkeep skills. There is still some sort of energy trait needed to make those utility + weapon skills somewhat smarter to use.

Let's Talk Trait Ideas! (New and Revisions)

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

What i miss the most in the Invocation line is some sort of energy enhancement, like all skills use 15% less energy for gm or degen skills degen 1 pip less or cd reduced by 20%.
Or simply all weapon skills generate 2 energy per hit. We simply have to many traits that generate health by some sort of action across all those traits, but nothing to help with energy management.

dungeon rev hate?

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

Well after doing a lot of dungeons with warrior and guardian i thought lets try ascalon once with that new heavy class. When we reached Kholer it was over. There was no way to overcome that godlike evil kitten. Yes, the revenant is this bad in his current state. I read a lot of bad things about him in the past and thought well people are overreacting with a new class until i tried him myself. Mallyx needs a complete overhaul and so does ventari. Legendary dwarf is a lot of fun though. The most useful skills were that path of stone thingy together with those hammer blast finishers and them whirling hammers.

Pick 2 words to describe Rev this beta

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

Sub par.

What’s the point of teleporting to your target to teleport it to a random location out of your reach? Groups are going to hate this skill more than ranger longbow knockbacks and necro AoE fears.

this was actually very useful for a team of 5 revenants in the citadel of flame story mission, when we came to the boss who kept staying in his fire fields. We ported him out of it and killed him.

two words:

needs work.

Point is it is overpriced. The same way I don’t buy a white brand t-shirt that cost 25 dollars, when I can get it for 15, I’m sure that if I buy the one for 25 I’ll be able to wear it for years come, but I can do that with the one for 15 too. Furthermore I know it’ll be on sale in 6 months for half the price, so I just won’t buy a t-shirt till then.

now that’s a pretty simple solution if you ask me, but don’t expect to get it as a preoorder for half the price. people who always need the prettiest shiny new toy always pay the most. Yet everybody has to decide on their own how much worth that exp pack holds to them…

So Jalis legend was sold as a tank

in Revenant

Posted by: makagoto.1204

makagoto.1204

Now theres a question to people who played beta..did you really had that tanky feeling? We had there stability road, hammers and a taunt paired with not so well made elite to reduce damage (3sec cast to get 5s 50% dmg reduction). Then we had Mallyx with more offensive condi stuff..but was it really that offensive?

I personally was feeling more tanky with Mallyx onboard, due to https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unyielding_Anguish
and the nature of melee mobs i was able to prevent a lot of damage as mobs were unable to reach me. It wasnt the case with Jalis, all it had really going on with his tanky meme was high amount of stability, i also used it for perma swiftness to travel around but Jalis on it own was feeling sluggish, and i believe the olny “tankiness” coming from him was 3k armor in stats.

Rite had too high casttime and too short duration to consider it as a viable tool to prevent damage, stablity road wasnt really all that useful as mobs been lacking in cc, summoned hammers was mostly to increase our already pathetic dps. There wasnt any access to protection, vigor, blocks, blinds, deflect/reflect, evades, invul..you know these things that make tank..a tank. I was forced to take everything on the chest just like warrior without ways to prevent damage in Jalis..meanwhile i had great success nullify damage completely in Mallyx just to that single leap – nothing were able to get close to me, i could stand in my safe circle as long i wanted to.

How did you feel? Do you really been feeling as a tank in Jalis? For me Jalis inst a tank legend, he feels for me more as a slow mo pressure/support legend

that combination you mentioned actually makes him pretty tanky. Don’t consider that one legendary stance will be enough for you to use. Also rite of the great dwarf gives that damage reduction not just to you but to your whole party.

Maybe they ignored them cause they wasnt really all that useful maybe?

nah, it has more to do with the lets hammer that weapon 1 skill down for everything.

Summon the power of the legendary demon to transform into a powerful avatar. Increase all attributes, and copy conditions to nearby foes every few seconds.

Channel the power of the Rite of the Great Dwarf to turn yourself and nearby allies into stone to reduce incoming damage.

Grant resistance to yourself and nearby allies. Absorb conditions from those allies, gaining additional resistance per condition.

Deal damage to your foe. Remove boons from and apply confusion to that foe. Apply bonus confusion if you have equal or more conditions than the threshold applied to you.

those skills sound pretty useful to me, either way i am gonna have hands on in the next beta, whenever that may be.

signets lose efficiancy after being used, because they lose their passive, but the revenant can simply swap to another set of utility skills. This leads to some interesting gameplay mechanics.
The revenant is pretty restrictive but he/she can always fullfill two roles thanks to his/her legendary stances. So far the strongest skills in the game are the utility+ elite skills and for the revenant to have twice as many of those makes that proffession very powerful.
Many people already ignore most of the weapon skills not to mention another weapon set.
What annoyed me the most on early beta gameplay is that most people completely ignore those utility skills, not to mention the low cd elite skills, which were practically never used.

why do you people have to make a thread for this ? if i was as dissapointed as you are i would just have silently left the game for some time or forever without all this drama…
Playing 9 professions i actually like a lot of the changes. Just having to rely on power builds and the need of having the usual zerk meta elitist super uber builds annoyed the hell out of me, but i simply adapted to that style. Now i am finally free from that boring game style. Thank you Arenanet for that!

guild wars was always a game that gives you room to grind for cosmetics instead of function. They never wanted to give people, who play a lot an advantage over casual gamers. They won’t change that stance anytime soon.
