Same with GW1.
GW1 had the 1 milion edition/GOTY which added a couple of promotional weapons to your account. What about olders players? Not a problem, since they could buy the upgrade from the ingame store for 5€. Later they added the Summoning Stone for all digital editions of the game. What about older players? Again they could buy the upgrade which added the stone from the ingame store for 5€.
Now tell me how can I get the hat as a veteran player?
A great point!
But it took a while for them to put that purchase in place if I recall. I think we are expecting too much ‘instant’ response from Arenanet sometimes. They don’t have unlimited staff and have to prioritize. I expect they will do something similar in gw2 with these items, over time.
I am not trying to be a suckup for arenanet. They have made a ton of mistakes with gw2, and they way they did halloween and the karka piled on more. I just expect that they will keep chipping away and improve things, because that is my experience with them.
No question players deserve a quality product and responsive support. Arenanet deserves time to put these in place.
If they were charging monthly this would be a quit and cut your losses situation. They are not, so I just try to have fun and play my way.
I am not a compulsive collector, and the town clothes to me have negligible value so far. Again, I would be more upset if this were a mini that I wanted and was worried I could never get.
So I get what people are saying.
Gandalf would want it, but he already has one.
All games have to run promotions after they have been out a while. Lots of games drop in price. I played diablo 2 and expansions for full price, and the price eventually dropped.
Same with GW1. Bought first account early, When I later bought another I got all 3 games for less than I paid for the first one. But I got value in playing it a year or two earlier than if I waited for the price drop.
It is business and the company’s lifeblood. They sell more copies, they can bring us more expanded content. There are lots better things to complain about.
PS – it is just a street clothes hat. not worth crossing the lane in LA for. Now, if it was an everlasting Riel tonic, then I’d be pissed (but I might buy another copy).

As cute as the idea is, it seems to me fraught with security risks.
no good can come of adding anonymous email sending to the mail system, IMO.
Now, if anet created a separate ‘secret santa’ service that they admin’ed as part of wintersday on BLTC, that might be cool, so that you could buy gems and direct gift them to an account, maybe via email from anet, not an individual, and either sign it as a regular gift, or leave it ?? – that might be nice. It might also spike gem sales for that matter – I know I would gift my son’s account that way.
But letting people DIY anon is an invitation for mischief.
I feel like quitting the game because of deer.
I thought this was well known as many complained about it during the event?
this and the in-game mail says not to open on an alt / lower level char, use with the char that would have participated in the karka finale, i.e. lvl 80 one
Not exactly what it says. But forewarned is…
I opened it with a lvl 20, and I got lvl 39 to lvl 62 gear, plus the box and shell.
But I played the event with a level 61 raised to 80 for the event, so I got what I earned, even though I opened with a 20. Just sayin’, not claimin’.
If you hold down control when you use a skill it broadcasts it into chat. People may not see it everytime, and you don’t want to spam, but you can call attention a little that way. If you do so before a fight and point it out “for regen”, people worth supporting should understand your role better.
In WvW, players on your team are green dots so you can see where people are.
If this were the case in PVE maps, players could form informal groups easier and it might encourage partying up. At least you would know whether an area you were in was empty, and if you saw 5 players heading in a direction, you might follow figuring they were heading to an event, and you would know it was not going to be you against a champion and 3 veterans.
It is already implemented in the WvW maps – couldn’t it be turned on for the other maps?
The monthly is reset for december but two of the achievements are still ??
So essentially we don’t get the full month – they are probably Wintersday related so That means 18 days instead of 31.
Glad I don’t care because the two things I can see are wvw and fractals which are dead to me.
I think Anet is missing a huge economic opportunity here. They should sell sponsorships to the legendary weapons. Who wouldn’t want the ‘Legendary Geico Insurance Greatsword’ or the ‘Legendary Pepsi Focus of Fizzle’? Wouldn’t it be great if we could send soup labels to Anet and get a "Legendary Progresso Traditional Soup Ladle of Karka Bashing’?
(don’t miss the sarcasm, please)
More seriously, if a weapon is the pinnacle of the game, and people are making this big a fuss about how hard it is to craft or how expensive it is to buy, after the game has existed less than six months, get a grip. The game is supposed to last years, not weeks.
Hey, I want to see the next season of Game of Thrones, and read the next book in the series, but I just have to be patient. I also am not playing GW2 to ‘finish’ it so i can move on to the next game that pops out. I want it to last.
I don’t expect to log on every night and have something spectacular drop into my inventory because I deserve it.
I can fully understand the frustration with dropping hundreds of weapons into the Mystic Toilet and never getting back what you need – that is a suck mechanism that degrades the game. I fully expect Anet to fix or supplement this in time., because that is what they did with GW1, over time. Meanwhile, I just don’t go there.
But other than that, I think people are wasting too much energy churning about this, and ascended, and FOTM, and not enough energy enjoying what’s good in the game.
i think this is a great idea.
This kind of arrangement could help make up for the weakness of the LFG system we have in game.
since we all can be members of multiple guilds, i could see groups like this springing up on each server so that players can come together for a purpose, but not be married to it.
I would join in a heartbeat but I don’t have an 80 yet and havent done a single dungeon yet either. (I want to but it is hard to group and I don’t want to be the weakest link due to no experience.)
Not sure how home server would affect this.
Best of luck doing this and if it works tell the forums.
I want to be a Sylvari impersonator. :-)
Or an asura>Norn, with elevator shoes.
I liked the events a great deal, and I survived my frustration with never finding Kanach or whatever his name was, and missing the Miyami questline. I missed phase 1 at work, did phase 2 but never found a chest (if there was one), and did phase three along with my son, who ended up as the naked necro, but we both got the chest (the avg loot – no pre).
But I still had fun.
I feel really bad for the people who could not play, and worse for those who got DC’ed, and I hope there is a way to sooth that.
Overall, I think the whole thing was over-ambitious. Anet tried really hard but bit off too much too soon. I think there are lessons to learn, and I hope they are not along the lines of ‘ignore these ingrates."
I think one-time happenings are cool but just do a cinematic and then let people do a join an anytime instance, even if there is a wait like there was for WvWvW in the early days.
The big zergfest was fun but DCs are not. Make it manageable on the server side, minimize the instant wipe from culling, scale the foes and the zerg to numbers we
(and the servers) can handle – all that would be playable and fun.
Spell our ’per player’ or ‘per account’ and enforce it.
I think Anet can make content just as epic even if scaled down. “The world has changed” doesn’t have to be 300,000 players or bust.
For the Anet folks – Illegitimum non carborundum – not proper Latin but appropriate to this occasion.
Keep dreamin’ that dream – GW2 is a great game, blemishes and all. A lot of us are having fun every night.
Maybe we are not PVP gods with 900g and a stash full of legendaries, but we have fun, kinda like you intended.
PS – the headcrabs were pisser.
maybe in six months anet will let us sidekick Trahearne with us through dungeons and all will be well.
Every character loses the achievement points for LA, it seems.
To me the underlying bad joke is soulbound items. Especially when the mystic forge(ry) gives a soulbound staff to a ranger. Maybe that has been fixed, but I remember I got something like that the first time, and almost decided never to repeat.
At least in GW1, if you had an item customized to your character, you could salvage it or sell it for the runes. Some of this stuff can’t be sold, can’t be salvaged, and is practically unusable. But hey, at least liquid karma stacks, better than you can say for BL salvage kits- why can’t I combine a 25 and a 5 to make a 30? It’s just pixels and math, not some quantum leap.
The chests are fun to think about, until you open them. Again, in GW1 if you got boost like objects your guild leader could dole them out as party favors. Mine just sit in the bank next to the tonics collecting dust.
At least at some point make them throwable so you could hurt baddies or help allies. I think random acts of boostiness might be kinda fun.
Suggestion – just like the fake mad king in LA, how about a character in a nearby place that you can talk to and replay the cinematic? That way everyone can see it happen, even if they are late to the party. The surprise would be gone, but at least you could view it in game rather than on youtube.
The scenes are pretty awesome, and this would be a way to not get angry if the time is inconvenient. Even though there wern’t one time events in GW1, there were ways to re-experience important stuff.

My gripe about monthly is different. I don’t like PvP.
But to get a monthly achievement, I have to play PvP.
I don’t like pvp, and in part, I am not good at it because I don’t enjoy it enough to work at it.
I think it should be separate. Then people who PvP can get their reward without playing pve, and I could get
my reward without stinking up the pvp worlds, joining a team only to be the weakest link
and hurt their chances.
People who like both can get two achievements – great for them.
Obviously, agree with the first post, double, because I would have to not have fun
for 4 levels of achievement
to get an inadequate reward. Right, I stopped bothering to look at the monthly tab. :-(

When I work on the daily achievements, I do multiple events but some of them do not seem to count for the daily 5 events.
Which events count toward the daily number and which do not?
