In the past when they have added something like to TOT bags, it was in a fourth slot. So having it take up one of the three seems like a negative. Personally, I got a key for a character finishing a zone, and for the first time since beta, I am saving the key in the bank until they “fix” the BL chests.

If you think about the real living world, that real life thing, if you were the most obsessive football fan in the world, you still could not possibly watch every single football game played in the world. Too many leagues, clubs, games. So if anet wants to create a living changing world, you cannot continue to expect that you can experience 100% of the content without missing anything ever. So maybe player expectations need to be tempered.

Or maybe as the OP says, Anet has to re-consider how fast their treadmill is spinning, and whether a lot of us hamsters will get exhausted and fall off.
And how hard it is to get back on.

Where is the in-game warning for ascended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mattbnh.9247

mattbnh.9247

If unique was self-explanatory, the game would not let you buy 2.
There are plenty of other things the game won’t let you do. Heck at the laurel dealer there are items that the game will not lot you buy more than once – the crafting starters. Apply that code to the ascended gear.

Or get rid of the soul bound restriction. Here and everywhere. Free trade, man.
If I find it, buy it, or earn it, I should be able to sell it or give it to whoever I want.
IF I buy 2 of something and can only use 1, then let me sell the extra.
Don’t force me to drop it in the toilet.

It wasn’t called soul bound in GW1, but you could not trade armor or customized weapons. It was bullpucky then, and it still is.

account bound is almost as bad.

If I buy something with karma I earned, I should be able to sell it. I can’t sell Basil? I can’t sell a Bank express?
Give me one good reason.

Should GW2 have weapon swap cooldown..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mattbnh.9247

mattbnh.9247

Another difference from GW1 is that all GW1 classes could carry 4 weapon sets and swap to them during combat. In GW2, some classes can carry 2 sets, some only one. The ele can swap alignments to change skills, and an Eng can activate a kit. But a ranger with greatsword/short bow cannot swap to a longbow in inventory during combat.

Big difference is that in GW1, your skill bar could not be changed outside of town (some exceptions like signet of capture and Norn transforms) so GW2 is more flexible on skills than GW1, but less on weapons.

Adding an additional weapon set swap, maybe purchasable by an 80 for skill points from Miyami or someone – that might be a nice incentive for max level characters.

Being a lefty with left hand mouse addiction, I feel resigned to moving and clicking on skills and the slowness that causes, especially when I lose track of the mouse cursor in a snowstorm.
I think about remapping, but I am not convinced it would be better, just confusing, and that I would revert back to what i know in desperate situations.
I bought a Nostromo N52 but I found that it was really ergonomically married to left hand pad / right hand mouse.
Maybe if I was 19 I could retrain myself brute force, but at 19*3, not so likely. My right hand just does not have the dex needed to jump all over the keyboard, and it also manages to suck as a mouse hand.

Disagree. You can park an alt at every dragon/mega boss and switch to them when the pre-event starts. No need to spend anything to map into the waypoint. You don’t need a decked-out 80 to survive a boss kill. You could even name your alt after the boss he stands around waiting to kill.

In my opinion, invulnerable mobs are a bad design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mattbnh.9247

Personally I would like this mechanic removed, both ways.
If I can gain a tactical advantage, I should be able to use it.
Conversely, the enemies should be able to hit back, but at some disadvantage.
If I can shoot farther because of height, yay for me and boo-freaking-hoo for them.
If they have a positional advantage, they should be able to pummel me!
And I should be able to hit back, to a realistic degree.
The game should not care if I can poach a deer with impunity.
It is a freaking deer, not a TRex.
And no boss should be designed to allow that – it IS supposed to be TRex(like).
Having anything invulnerable is bogus.

To the OP – if these posts show you a different perspective, that’s good. Glad you posted. You still have those alt slots if one of us gave you a good reason to use them.
You don’t have to throw that nice gear you find for other professions into the mystic toilet – maybe you could revive an alt and work them up to using that nice gear.

But generally I love that you can jump at all so much – playing years of gw1 with no jumping, I find it a lot of fun. I also love getting up on rooftops, just wish you could snipe more often – hate when an enemy turns invulnerable after two shots.
The only gripe I have is the camera up your shorts problem.

Ultimate farming game -> Guild Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mattbnh.9247

The MMO genre is stagnant. Normal people look at MMOs with disgust, as they are not so easily deceived by the grind. Whenever someone tries to do something new, grinders complain since they believe all MMOs should be only a new place to grind, and nothing else.

GW2 is trying to advance the genre, though, hence the small army of annoyed grinders in this forum. ArenaNet’s strategies are far from perfect, not to mention incomplete, but they are going in the right direction. Just as people used to say “If you want a good story don’t play FPS, go play RPGs” and then were forced to shut their mouths after the release of Half-Life and Bioshock, so will one day all the grinders who say “If yu don’t like grind don’t play MMOs, go play single player RPGs” will also be forced to shut their mouths. I wait eagerly for that day, and hope GW2 will manage to be it.

[/quote]

I agree very much, and I almost regret missing your first point.
I might complain sometimes but overall I appreciate very much what Anet has done with GW1 and GW2, especially that they stick with it and gives years of value and new content. Not everything is a home run, but they keep trying.

The elitists say L2P, and the devs say “let’s try to think of as many things as we can to prevent L2P from being fun, or even possible.”

At least in GW1, you could find someone every once in a while who could help you learn something new, like a new build that helped in a tough mission or area (Though there were lots of ‘no-noob’ runs like Duncan the Black or speed clears). Or you could use heroes to go in and get a clue of how to beat the mission or dungeon.
In GW2 without a decent LFG tool and separate servers and 5-man teams where one weak link/learner hoses the group, and most groups opting for elitist, what is the point of trying to learn?

Stealing from Guild Bank

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mattbnh.9247

mattbnh.9247

Certainly you should look at your rank permissions, and set up a rank for new players that only allows bank deposits. That won’t stop this completely, but if someone joins with thieving on their mind, seeing that they are in a no-withdrawal class until they impress an officer, they might just bolt right away and not bother.

If the person is in your contacts, you should be able to see their current guild, and you could try to contact a guild member/officer and tell them to watch out for this one. I would do it without broadcasting the guy’s name – it is possible that you have id’ed the wrong ex guild member (slim but possible).

Anyway, that sucks and I have seen it before in my 2ndary guild – unknown user cleaned out the bank – so I wonder if this is a repeated scam in midsize guilds who recruit openly. This will only get worse with guesting, so I would say caution is going to be needed.

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mattbnh.9247

Don’t forget Henchmen/Heros so you can do a dungeon solo without having to worry about others.

For me, I miss Heroes and Hench the most for the opposite reason!

I want to learn to do dungeons, but I hate being a drag on an experienced group, and being the weakest link because I don’t know my way around or know what the deathtraps are.

I don’t want to feel humiliated for trying to learn something new. That is not my motivation for playing the game.

At least with jumping puzzles I mostly can fail, then succeed, without screwing someone else along the way.

I would like to be able to go into a dungeon with a bunch of NPCs and explore and learn without messing up someone else’s run. I don’t care if it is for reduced rewards, or even no reward except for creature drops.

I also think more people would do dungeons if you could enter with 2 or 3 and have the slots filled with npcs, even if they are mostly Trahearne-like or pincushions.

I would settle for a “teaching stupid people” dungeon group, but I haven’t seen one advertised.

Not instant – they usually start unorganized espically if you drop a trap or a turret. Run in and grab the drops So they dont evaporate while you fight, run back and start to fight, trying to isolate.

If there is not drop, usually you can get socks or something from the dolls.

I try to aggro something near by so if I go down I have something easier to kill than a doll. works sometimes, but not always.

The browse/demo idea is the “best in thread”.
I like having to work for the dyes I want and make choices.
I love the unidentified aspect, and love that I can craft dyes.
They would not have made a ‘rare’-ness system if they didn’t want commerce to play a part in this. They knew the way the dye market economy operated in GW1, and they improved on it.
Don’t you think they are cooking up new colors for expansions? I don’t think we have hit 65 million yet, and that doesn’t even take into account blends and textures (peppermint stripe for Wintersday?).
I think the system is great and there is better to come.
The preview/browse feature would cut down expensive mistakes (bought the wrong green) and might cut prices a little, but it would be a crowd pleaser, IMO.
