Edit: I misinterpreted the statements.

The change:

Just to clarify, you’ll no longer be able to use waypoints when a party member is in combat inside a dungeon. This is prevent people from using waypoints to rush and kill bosses or clear areas, which is not intended game play.
All other forms of res remain unchanged.

This is true, but in fractals there are no waypoints, so with this change you’ll have to wipe if a key person in your group ends up dying.

I think they mean that people won’t be able to res at way-points.

Kind of like Fractals are now, where you can’t res at the checkpoint while people are still in combat.

Honestly, I always hoped this would be implemented for normal dungeons. Half the time I forget I can res when I die from a waypoint because I’m used to the whole Fractal mentality of ressing.

they’ve also included in their live-stream answers that they’ll be lowering the difficulty of dungeons in order to balance out some extreme difficult from these explorable dungeons! so no need to worry man because they know that certain dungeons currently requires ress tactics.

EDIT: IMO I think they’ll be revamping difficulty levels for every single EXP dungeon parts that requires ress to complete. Or else it wouldn’t make sense.

You can go Down 4 times before instantly being Defeated. Each time you go Down you incur 1min of DP, which reduced Downed health by 25%. After a minute, the DP disappears. So it’s not like you are instantly dead.

I’d argue getting rid of that will encourage MORE teamwork to try and keep each other alive / in the game.

This is a big stupid change if it is only to prevent WP zergs, rather disable WP while fighting a boss, seriously, even in WoW you could ress people in combat, you dont need to take this out. It will just increase stress of people trying to run dungeons with pugs since they have a life and no time to make in game friends / guilds.

For those complaining:

Philosophy on the dungeon

  • Multiple phase change for the dungeons – first build – remove the idea of rez rushing (i.e. only way to beat some of the difficult encounters at the moment is to have dead players run back from nearby waypoints while players that are alive kite the mobs)
  • You can no longer able to rez (I think he meant waypoint here) if someone in dungeon is in combat
  • We are nerfing some of the encounters that are a bit more challenging
  • Phase 2 – go back and look at some of the encounters – retune and increase difficulty if necessary.
  • New rewards (no details)

this will cause some major griefing, pug’ing will be quite the headache and unless theynerf the kitten out of the dungeons, those poor non lvl 80’s won’t see the inside of a instance for a while. there is no tank or healers in this game. having a “forced wipe” machanic if one or 2 ppl go down has no place here. i cant aggro a boss pounding my dps in the face… BUNKER BUILDS FOR EVERYONE!!! winning!

side note: i avoid FotM like the plague making reg instances mimic them is a no no for those who are like minded.

If you want to survive in higher lvl fractals, you pretty much have to be elitist.

Disagree-you can be a great player for any content without the attitude and “gear requirements.” All that is required is practice and acquired skill over time. Surely some guild players play high-level fractals without the snobbery, taking their time, and for the sheer fun of it.

Though I admit that elitists should play with elitists, because they are made for each other, for better or worse. I can’t stand the type, because they tend to be arrogant (their trademark for the most part), bossy, intolerant, and domineering for the sakes of being “efficient”, running things as fast as possible, and playing the game the “right” way (their one, “experienced” way, of course.) Thus, I am not a good match for “elite” groups, regardless my actual playing skill is “elite” or otherwise (I don’t care… not missing out at all, because I hate bad attitudes with a passion.)

I like playing like an elite, but never acting like one. People should have fun and play whichever way is most comfortable and efficient for themselves, not just sticking to an “established meta” way of doing things. One can play really well and know the game content upside down, but also do so with respect for others as well (being “good” at the game doesn’t give anyone the right to disparage the “non elite” playing skill of others.)

I hate the terms “deadweight”, “being slowed down by…”, etc. Have fun, and let others have fun too.

(To be honest, most great players aren’t “elite” like what I mentioned, and keep their mastery of the game and opinions for themselves, rather than pushing their “one and only” playstyle to others. They can do any game’s content without whining that others slow them down or “can’t keep up” with them. In short, you don’t have to be a jerk to others to be a great player at GW2.)

I honestly mean no offense to anyone. Carry on playing as you wish, but be aware that not everybody enjoys “the elitist way”, and that’s OK too.

I see this making the game more fun on the long run, though with a beginning learning curve for many. It will indeed be more familiar with the earlier GW1 system, or at least I hope it enhances tactical play.

It’s just plain poor game design, getting rewarded for playing poorly. It just brings the game down.

You’re not catering to ‘casuals’ then, you’re catering to ‘entitled’ gamers who think that they have the right to complete the dungeon, regardless of how poorly they play.

Bad players are already punished as their gear gets damaged and they pay some money to repair.
The players who stayed alive and now at a disadvantage and trying to stay alive to hold agro might not have enough damage to kill the boss in a timely manner.

So now you are punishing the entire team since 1 guy died, now that is called a terrible idea.
This game is about team play yes, but if one guy is bad in your team that gets killed during a boss fight then ur penalising the entire team..

Let’s put it this way:

You got an exam.

No matter how badly you do in that exam, you’ll still pass anyway. How is that a good test of your knowledge?

It’s the same with dungeons: They’re a test of skill. If you can just keep running to your death and still get your reward (“passing the test”), how is that good design.

As I said previously, you aren’t catering to casual players, you’re catering to the entitled who think it’s their God-given right that they should be rewarded.
