I also PvP I’m one of those players that does it all… And I can speak from experience that WvW requires a different play style and in some situations more skill than PvP… I have fought many many thieves in wvw that I would consider to be amazing and would prolly wipe the floor with the Pvp people but they refuse to do it… And honestly it’s prolly because of attitudes like that guys… Everyone in PVP is just so elitist and lame.
Wipe the floor with their food, ascended gear, and a million other buffs? No.
When you rely on said buffs and advantages, you have a cushion of stats to rely on. That is why it is inferior to spvp competitive play. You only rely on your skill there. It is just as bad as these Dungeon Masters in solo queue. Did they get the memo that enemy players are not the same as NPCs?
You cannot compare WvW pvp with Tpvp. I agree that it requires a different mindset but that is about it.

In regards to non competitive tpvp, any ok/decent player on a d/d or s/d ele can carry at least one other bad player. I noticed this while solo queuing today. But, I started messing with a confusion/bleed spec mesmer, and although successful, had to work extra hard. But there is only so much you can do. Mesmer’s condition removal and mobility is just awful w.o the access to portal.
I hope they tone down ele and balance other classes because I hate feeling like I HAVE TO jump on an ele in solo queue with the screwy MMR.
I like that more people are pvping (broken record), but O…M…G.
I have never been so frustrated, than jumping on today, being queued up with all these new folks. I know it will take time but MMR should take into account games/matches played as well along with other variables, not just pure wins and losses. You have a lot of individuals who are fresh to the current meta, and have NO CLUE. So they get paired up with 1 or 2 other experienced players and it is just downhill from there.

I am all for more people pvping but that is garbage. How would not that make people frustrated and aggravated. It’s not just these lowbies getting mismatched. The high level solo queuers have it “hard” too.
Along with you, at least there are some (keyword being some) that are level headed in this community. Phew.
I am just amazed at how this age of entitlement is perfectly shown in gaming communities. It is all “No, I deserve this, so give it to me now.” Just all this me me me me me, I want I want I want. Yes we all know you paid for this game, but since when was that a reason to act like a spoiled brat?
Anyhow, okay so, if you think about it, the quickness nerf was a meta shaking change. Not in round about way of course since the patch lacked changes to classes and builds to compensate, but they are taking a step into the right direction. I am more optimistic than most, then again, I can afford to be because playing this game isnt a chore or job to me.
Part of me wonders though if A-nets agenda is gearing up the meta in spvp to be bunker wars/support wars to promote longer, more intuitive fights.
I feel sorry for anyone who rolled a warrior with the haste changes. I am actually considering rolling to engi or play my mesmer again if scepter #3 is decent. Confusionzzmangg.

I think it is a “ kitten if we do, kitten if we dont” scenerio. Seems to me they want the meta to shift towards everyone having more balanced or tanky builds for long term survivabilty over having instagib anything….
BUT, obviously some classes will suffer in the mean time while they wait to make other changes. Kinda stinks if you ask me.
I honestly do not know what’s funnier, OPs engrish trollin or google’s imaginary mesmer build. I want it.
I know eles are king on the map bc of rtl, but the only two spots on orb carrying where we are able to use it to our advantage, are from the last set of stairs to a node, and from first stairs near orb to bottom of hill behind raven (if you dont hit any rocks). If you are solely focusing on orb carrying (if you can afford it with a decent team), you may also use it to sprint back to the orb after its placed.
In most cases, anyone with a brain will target you and lock you down like crazy. Ever, unfortunately use rtl, only to realize someone was smart enough to immobolize you RIGHT before hand. Annoying much?
Pfft, tanky rangers? How about engis almost perma evading too? Saw this thanks to fighting natural port in one of saats team the other day? We had 3 eles including myself and we still lost (I solo queue’ed ty MMR).
Same with guardians blocking or using sanctuary ontop of orb.
Takes a brain to win regardless of how “op” a class my seem to people.

Not like I will ever be running around with something like this due to RL but I would support this. I rather see amazing players running around with special rated gear than having everyone and their mom who likes to achievement/glory farm run around with paid gear. So generic.
IMHO, the core issue lies in condition damage bypassing toughness. That is why it hits some classes harder than most, aka ones that have higher base or more vitality stacked, it just tickles. Also, some class traits have precision damage or chance paired with condition through traits while for others it is completely separate.
I am waiting for the upcoming changes to Mesmers for confusion because in tpvp it is really frustrating trying to continuously and effectively stack conditions on anyone while adding to a team fight. We cant keep conditions up as effectively as necros or rangers, etc though. 1v1 condition is fine. Shatters though are strong in team fights, but not as effect 1v1 in the current meta. Our condition damage is traited through shatter line and condition duration through power. Precision is separate. So there is only so much you can do with 70 points. We are spread so thin. It is either solely 1 build or the other.

Aside from inserting a more healing/support centric class into the game, the only other option is overhauling traits, utilities, and scaling in regards to healing. They would have to either tone down or adjust CC on other classes as well. HP pools and scaling for toughness and vitality concerning raw damage and condition damage would also need a looking into. Idk, I think they could do it, and I would prefer it this way, but since their philosophy of play revolves around the lack of trinity, I doubt we will see anything but point capture based maps any time soon.

Srsly… bunkers are the most pathetic thing ever.
They exploit the gamemmode – point cap/defense – they are the best…
They exploit the non existant trinity by being healer and tank in one…
They exploit the huge margin of error on any bunker specc, paired with heal spamm so even a dead moneky could faceroll to win…
But after all cant be really blamed coz OP/fotm burst was what brought em on us in the first place.i remember a dev post back in november announcing they are aware of the bunker meta/problem and are going to balance… almost 5 month after this, nothing happened.

You are beating on a dead horse. As players, should we be held accountable for using a meta, Anet provided for us, because of THEIR “balance” changes and beliefs?
The community simply created a solution(s) around the spvp the devs handed us. There sprouted bunkers of any form within multiple classes to handle the one map mode people play on competitively.
Why should I feel bad for playing a bunker class? It is, but yet isnt an “exploit”. A catch 22. Yes people use bunkers, but no it isnt our fault. It is just how the game is played and has to be played.
ele best bunker?
lolGuardian can usually survive a bit more than ele…but for sure ele has an indecent mobility for being a bunker…so for a tpvp situation ele is probably the best since the other team can just ignore the point with you guardian and they can fight 4vs5 on the other 2…ele can still cover another point if needed (Or go contest even 1vs2 and usually decap far side) and come back in no time. Let’s say if i have to run with one bunker and have to chose between ele or guardian i would probably take an ele..
In the aspect of bunkering (ignore rtl) guardian is obviously better. He can constantly stay on the node, which ele can’t that hard due to no blocks. Another op thing is rezzing with guard (knockback if traited). No other class can rezz that good. Also a guard has more often acess to stability and blocks which makes it easier to stay on the point against knockbacks etc.
In the whole view considering also mobility and dmg, the ele shines out.
I think guardians are better bunkers than ele’s as well. When I solo queue, especially in Kylo, if the opposing team has a guardian and we dont, I know we are going to have to work harder. Work harder to keep home points instead of mid, work harder to stay on treb, etc.etc. Those blocks and knockbacks in clocktower are killer and time consuming to fight against. It is an uphill battle for mid, unless you have a necro or cordinated cc and burst.
Yep. I only play for the gameplay and fun combat mechanics. Ele d/d is a perfect playstlye for me (and ironic enough, perfect for the only game mode they have). But I wish TDM were feasible. I mean instead of worrying about points, it would inspire actual team play..team support, opening, spike set ups, focus fire, cordination, it would allow players to focus on more in depth mechanics. Unfortunately the lack of balance in most classes would make TDM a mess. Other game modes could also inspire other builds, or should for that matter, instead of pigeon holeing classes.

Sounds more like the fault of your system, than GW2. Though I’ll agree on laggy world events like dragons, those are awful.
Maybe try some single player games for a change?

I stopped pveing 2-3 months ago. This game is alt heaven for most folks, but after leveling two 80’s, I was all like…bleh. Same grind for gear. More grind for end game gear. Not interested. Laurel and dailies just aren’t my thing.

You can craft weapons and armor depending on the rank or type tokens you have. You can also craft glory boosters, finishers, and dyes.
I like how people derailed your thread and never answered your question. I know for hotjoins if you leave it wont affect you.. So I’m pretty sure if you leave tournament game and wait for the game to end before logging back in it wont affect you either because the game never ended and everything is recorded at the end of the game.
When they do the new ranking system they should make the disconnecting from tournament count same amount of deduction as a loss or more because with technology now people just don’t magically disconnect.

But, considering the rating system is so vague, we probably wont know for sure until they actually release the leaderboards themselves to test this theory.

Mesmers that use Greatsword and/or Pistol Offhand are baddies. If you lose to them, shame on you.
If you are an ele and you lose to any mesmer, shame on you. A fart from any ele kills clones before the mesmer can shatter.
Also LOL at people who complain about Mesmer Stealth. Please tell me how I can have so many utility slots! Mesmer NEEDS: Mirror Images, Portal and Blink. Yes mesmer does have stealth skills even elite stealth skills but no one uses them, and torch sucks, focus is a must.
Mesmer is also weak in 1v1 since phantasm nerfs. Its great in TEAM FIGHTS but 1v1 he is free fodder for anyone. No condition removal and clones die instantly.
Mesmer is even free fodder for any thief and warrior in 1v1. Thief can just troll with shortbow instantly killing anything that spawns and warrior kills any clone or phantasm in 1 auto attack due to big frontal cone area and damage.
That made my day. But its so true. Mesmers 1v1 are pretty easy for me on an ele. The only time I lose is when another enemy sneaks in a handful of attacks. Mesmers can burst, but personally, are as predictly as warriors in set up. That is why they shine in group settings, so when you have a shatter explode on your face out of nowhere, it hurts.
And from the SOTG, hopefully the improvements to our lazarrr beamz (GS), sceptor/confusion, and future mantra builds will be coming soon. With more viable builds like this, I wouldn’t mind a small nerf to shatter so it is in line with other AoEs. I want to play a mesmer again.
After watching the SOTG for myself, I can definitely see why so many of the hardcore players are frustrated. I even found it a little demeaning when Karl kept summarizing the classes back to the viewers. Who do they think watches these videos? Newcomers? No? More like people who have spent hundreds and close to thousands of hours learning and playing multiple classes. It’s been 5-6 years and what we have infront of us is hard to believe is even 1 years worth of content (for spvp). Jon spoke of these other maps that they spent time working on 2 years ago, so where are they?
Although it’s nice to hear of upcoming class tweaks and improvements, personally, content and incentive is still a bigger factor as to why spvp has staggered moreover anything else (thank you Xeph). Which of course, they didn’t give us many details on. Their biggest issue was man power for making new armor which had so many variants. It’s understandable but it’s obvious how thinned out these devs are that they dont have a few people working on something like this.
Also, boon hate? This wouldn’t even be necessary if boon removal/stripping worked properly in the first place or were available to more classes. But I guess it could be a fix for classes lacking boon removal to begin with.
Personally, I will be looking forward to mesmer rework because of how boring shatter mesmer became for me. If they improved mantra builds and/or confusion builds, that would be awesome. I want to carry a big shiny sceptor that actually works.
Lol@ not providing spectator mode for the tourny playerbase first. Why would I want to watch glory heroes via hot join?
As a casual pvper, I can even feel for yah guys. Hopefully these holy leaderboards will come out this month, to give some of you a reason to stay.

Does logging off before a tourney loss, not affect someone’s hidden rank?
I’ve run into this more than once. I stated the scenerio in map chat, and someone stated that they left because they didn’t want the loss to mess up their individual ratings. Personally, this seems absurd to me, and just as bad as afkers and no shows. But if a disconnect or character switch still acknowledges you as part of the tourney group, how does it still not continue to hash out the loss for him/her despite exiting the game?

CC and movement abilities are king on this map. But how is RTL any different (in regards to “fairness”) than a guardian dropping Sanctuary on the orb for a free pick up (and then continue to wall you up the ramps!!!)? Potato, potatoe. Some classes are better than others on Spirit Watch, just like a football team has designated players to achieve a certain play, it is the same thing.
My only issue is the fact that certain classes do seem to have to spec specifically for this map, which is tedious.

Hahaha omg, I was trying a confusion/retaliation centric build in hot join, stacked it on an ele, then I saw a tornado spitting out hot pink numbers everywhere. They died within 5 seconds or so. Hysterical. But hey, cast mist form right after you die and you might live anyway so there! We are even!
Someone from hot join was polite in asking me about the build I was currently using and for more advice. Then they asked me about the size of bags…..bags….what? Oh the 10 slot bags! Then I said I didnt notice or care about bags.
Please we need more costumes and loot!! Sure maybe even bigger bags to attract the casuals. Lol.

The might-stacking was not a bug, it was an over-buffed trait. The hot fix was deserved, imo.

On topic, kitten – won’t be able to forcebug the 14k mind wracks and blame the game while people scream for exploit. 1/4 of a second is really nothing, minor change that will affect only the bug.
Funny thing, Anet didn’t fix the bug, they just made it impossible to execute. Always better to add something new instead of fixing the old kitten.
I think it’s a temporary bandaid until they can actually figure out what the problem is.
It seems they can’t identify what is causing it,so they added a preventing measure.

I really want soloQ though and a working MMR for ftournies. Or atleast something new to encourage individuals who dont have time to look for teams.

There’s the pretentious folk who jump at any moment possible to start an arguement. Someone started a fit with me one day after I got frustrated in a 2v2 against two thieves. They downed my partner in stealth, so I was a little annoyed and said something deragitory about stealth in map chat. Then said random person proceeded to ramble about how I needed to learn to play because I died, and that stealth and thieves were fine? Lol?
Lastly, if a game frustrates you so much, stop playing, take a break. There are times where I chase people down after they kill me 2v1, if I beat them, I just jump on their corpse. Actually, you dont need to trash talk. Just jump on someones corpse, they will get the message.

I dont care what system they use as long as it matches you adequately with other players not just rank wise but skill or stat wise as well. And for these 4v5s or 3v5s to be fixed. They should pop others into queue as soon as the the timer hits 0 and person in queue hasn’t joined.
Waiting for 40 minutes each for two failed matched, as a solo queuer is not fun.
I actually think they should add more elements to the monthly pvp achievement. You have a day to day grind fest to obtain the pve one, which is fine if you enjoy such a thing, but why is the pvp one so easy in comparison for those who decide to invest time into spvp? Lol doesn’t make sense to me. I would love a better reward than some salvage kits I could care less about.
True true true, why should you work harder to pull the losing team you switch to, with no extra rewards. Pfft.
For ftournies, I don’t understand why they lock the queue like they do. First, there should be an ability to report any afkers. Second, it should automatically insert another solo queuer into the match to avoid any of the 4v5 scenerios. Since it is more casual than serious ptournies, if you disconnect or log out to switch characters, it should kick you from group as well, and insert another player. Still a 5v5. Of course you’ll have people complain about losing their team spot and it not being fair because their internet failed, but that is life. At least it would still be a 5v5!!!! >_<
Or a system to detect a valid dc, to reserve your spot if your already in a party….idk.
Oh and like some have noted, not every server is like Anvil Rock for spvp when it comes to shout and lfgs.

There is a trade-off between making SPVP exciting for casual players and making it an esport. Arenanet are committed to the later, and therefore most GW2 players ignore SPVP. That’s why the SPVP player base is so small, and you can’t find team-mates. It is what it is.
The e-sport thing won’t be happening. First of in order to have a e-sport you need to have:
1. A large player base (you need a more casual player friendly game to achieve this)
2. Enough game balance to have a lot more valid builds and counters to them (currently game balance is a joke)
3. Spectator mode (could be added later)
4. Proper rewards (ingame rewards e.g. Black Lion Keys to open chests, and money rewards for winning tournaments)
5. Good leaderboard system (built-into the game, past and current rankings and lots of statistics, ability to view recent top tournament matches)Now all these things are missing.
I agree with most of that. Its baffling that Arenanet have ploughed on regardless.
most importantly, 6. accessibility. there is none currently. as a new player these are my options:
1. waste away in the clusterfuq that is 8v8
2. wait for frees to pop; then, more likely than not, get stomped
3. practice until im good enough to apply for a paids team (lol, this isnt supposed to be a job)so basically, there wasnt a proper 5v5 queue on release. it’s beyond me how this could have been allowed to occur. anyway, as i keep repeating myself, until we get a proper 5v5 queue for the casuals (and abolish 8v8 altogether), spvp aint going anywhere. trust me.
Yep, this is exactly how I feel. As much as I enjoy playing, and as much as I would like to invest into finding others to play with, the options available arent friendly. God forbid your rank isnt high enough, or you dont have enough tourny wins, etc etc.
This shouldn’t be a chore or a job. There are casuals out there who would love to really sink their teeth into spvp but dont really bother atm because of the inaccessibilty to easily have others to play with (that are on their level) or the means to care. 10 ranks for new costumes and weapon skins!?! Why!?!
Casual player here:
For casual players that are half decent, the lack in game modes and lack of incentive are what’s hindering any progression or interest in spvp.
I only have time to play 3 hours or so every other day if I am lucky. But the only reason I come back to spvp is because I love the combat and the learning experience. Not everyone is as patient as me. Not everyone in a hot join bothers to play more than one class, so they may pick up their own strengths and the weaknesses of the professions they lose to. We all know how frustrating it is to jump in and discover that no one on your team can target and lock onto a mesmer or rez/stomp manage on a node. Free tournies are just as frustrating because of the down time to get into a match, on top of the low chances of being paired with a decent team, rank wise. So, 20-40 minutes for these matches where you might lose horribly, and earn little to no glory/points?
Imho, Anet should add more perks to spvp or tweak what they have, so players in the long haul can feel accomplished for spending the copious hours to be competitive and become good players.

Phants now cast as normal attacks – A needed change. People keep crying about how Phantasms are a part of our class and by making them miss or get blocked (and need LoS) they’ve essentially made our core mechanic blockable. Uh… Hello? If you dodge roll away from Hundred Blades, a melee based attack, you have just avoided a Warriors core mechanic (melee burst). If you leave the Meteor Storm area, you’ve just ruined an Elementalists Core Mechanic. This change was needed, we are now on par with every other class.
Except this is not the same. For every other class the attack still comes out.
If an Elementalist casts meteor storm and the opponent dodges, at least there’s still a fire field on the ground to use.
If a Thief uses steal and the opponent rolls, the Thief still ends up behind the opponent (In fact the Thief can steal regardless of any status effect on him).
If a Mesmer uses Warden and the opponent has Aegis, I hope you weren’t planning on it reflecting projectiles because now the attack won’t even appear.
In fact I can’t think of anything else that is like this. Does an Engineer’s turrets not spawn if he’s out of range? Does a Ranger not evade attacks with his third Greatsword attack if he’s blinded? Does a Mesmer not get his whirl combo finisher if he doesn’t have line of sight? Oh wait, he doesn’t because the attack doesn’t happen at all if the phantasm doesn’t come out.
No other class can have their attack “not happen” unless they are interrupted. Essentially rolling, blinding, aegis, evasion, ect… now all “interrupt” the Mesmer preventing them from even attacking with 20% of their attacks.
Bingo! It’s absolutely outrageous.

I also find it unfair that we are being pigeon holed into what ANet wanted the mesmer to be. Actually, with all these ridiculous changes (mostly nerfs) back to back, they didn’t even know what they wanted. Seems like we have more than worked wonders for this class, and because of some spvp and wvw issues, everyone has to suffer. Anymore negative changes, and you might as well call us useless.
Mesmers are really underrated atm in pve. I am usually the only condition/support char in many of the dungeon groups I am a part of. Time and time again, chaos armor, distortion, and timewarp, were the only things giving players breathing room from bad pulls, bad dodges, or back to back downs.
