Hello! I’m sorta new the WvW thing and trying to really learn as much as I can this week. I noticed in the other threads what appeared to be sarcasm at golem tactics. What is wrong with doing it? Is it considered a cop out? What would you consider a better strategy if the golems look like they will work?

They work too well imo, specially when you use them in access. Contrary to popular opinion using Golems is not a work of tactical brilliance, and the entire point of golems is to ‘not fight’ by taking the objectives fast enough that you take objective before defense can materialize.

Personally I would be happy if they were removed or severely limited to how many you can have per map. I further think they should not be able to use portals, and they should not be able to waypoint and be stored in an invulnerable area of the map.

All servers use them, including everyone I have played on, so consider my view server neutral and nothing at all to do with this match or any specific golem rush.

I wonder if we just haven’t found a great way to defend. I remember back at launch we used to use rams on every door. Once defenders learned to put catas and carts behind the door, our use of rams dropped. Now I’m likely to see us go after a wall 50% and gates with rams 50%.

Same thing with trebs. They are devastating to the SE tower and the West keep. However, after eles learned to swirl winds, it reduced their usage. And we learned all the tricky ways to hit trebs way up on cliffs and other hard to reach places.

This week, we’re nearly tripling second place in points. It isn’t fun. At one point we pushed FC to 0+, then switched over to ET and pushed them nearly all the way down as well.

I’ve been with SF since September, and we have had several matches where we would be less than 50+ the entire week. It was a lot more fun than domination.

Though I do enjoy our fights with ET quite a bit. They are really good at bunkering down and holding against 3-4x their numbers. FC though, has declined every week for passed few weeks, and barely put up a fight now.

Look at it from the other side then. Are you ready to go 4-5 weeks of getting steamrolled by servers with enough coverage to never let you leave your spawn?

They have not, which is leading to all this speculation. However, they said they were making small tweaks to the formula and are expecting weeks of volatility.

Some are hoping this means that a quick period of reversion to stable balanced match ups. The other side is reading that as millenium is probably pretty close to the new formula (i.e. using the old one) and they don’t see stable balanced match ups for 4-5 weeks.

If you think the match up reset is a good thing, are you arguing that it would produce a faster track to stable, balanced match ups? I think the trends on millenium are pretty clear that we’ll be stable and balanced in 1-2 weeks.

Or are you arguing that it will produce a totally different set of balanced, stable tier match ups? Since WvW is largely dictated by numbers, I don’t see this happening. The upper tier servers are upper tier due to their coverage and numbers. Resetting the ratings isn’t going to change that. The lower tiers are lower because of numbers. (Note that skill is important, but I think it is way over shadowed by numbers).

1. - I think we are all familiar with this. DB was hammered for months on the forums about doing this. No one is arguing that this isn’t a 24/7 game and people around the world play when they want. It gives rise to different coverage strengths for the servers. Which leads to #2.

#2. “thousands of kills” is a stat we can’t personally know. Only ArenaNet knows how many people are on and how many kills are happening.

“painting the map their color” is a fair statement. However, there are two ways of this happening.
a – There is no resistance during the Oceanic prime time and given enough people you can literally take everything on every map using auto attack (whether or not the players are skillful)
b – There is resistance during the Oceanic prime time and Kaineng has more skillful players and therefore takes all the maps.

I think people are complaining that Kaineng players on the forums are asserting b and everyone else thinks it’s a (which doesn’t conclude whether players are skillful or not).

I was just going to post the same thing. ArenaNet can query their database to see how many people are in WvW every hour per server. Then they graph the coverage and make the match ups. So reset the points, make manual match ups, then let the algorithm work from there.

However, I think Cactus.2710 is right, based on their past performance, I doubt this has even crossed their minds.

Wow, I’ve never run up against [WäR] before. Even though I’ve seen them post in the forums about roaming and holding off much bigger numbers I was unprepared for how good they are. All by myself and they yanked me off the wall at gods and the 5 of them had me down before I could /sit. Then while they were camping at gods I tried to go 1v1 on them, but nope, always jumped on by 2 more. Do they just not go 1v1?

Except everyone knows you are supposed to do spawn runs naked.

Unfortunately some demand that cardinal directions are used and as we were being hit on all fronts on our BL today and i was bouncing back and forth it was real easy to get SE and SW towers mixed up while typing and battling. But of course this has everything to do with what we are discussing doesn’t it?

It’s pretty funny when people mess up. I hear people yell for help on East Keep, East Keep. I’m standing in Hills telling them I don’t see anything, it’s all clear. Then I ask if they might actually be in the Bay keep. I mess up the NW and NE gates on Bay all the time and SW and SE gates on garrison.

One time we were close to beating Borlis Pass and we needed help. So I zoned out to Lion’s Arch and started yelling for people to get in and help us. … Except I was in the overflow. Was pretty funny to hear the comments.

As far as the picture goes, that was during our daily completion run. All we had left to do was crafting. We were nearby and too lazy to waypoint to another map, so we figured Dragonbrand might be willing to share their crafting stations with us. We all completed our dailies, although some of you were against the idea of sharing.

It was pretty funny listening to people scream about Mag being in our citadel. I told them to relax, you can’t be hurt so what does it matter? And at that point we had a pretty frantic defense of Bay going on against Mag and FA.

Look at the post above yours. They’re a good guild on Maguuma. If you want to play, they’re receptive to setting up fights sometimes.

The “majority of players” did not say it was worse.
People don’t seem to grasp that the people who make the effort to come post on the forums (especially in threads related to new features/technical stuff) are usually the ones who are dissatisfied. Most people who have had their culling experience improved with this patch are in WvW playing the game, not posting here.

What you read in the other thread were a vocal minority.

FYI, this patch helped culling a lot for me.
Everytime you see one of the fallback models, what you’re seeing is an instance where you would have seen nothing before this patch.

I agree that people with issues are far more likely to come to the forums and complain. and the December culling trial thread was full of people complaining. However, anet said
“Based on all the feedback we received, both during and after the trial, we will be transitioning to the updated culling system that we used in the trial. This update allows the culling system to handle allies and enemies separately so that being surrounded by a group of allies will not impact the culling of enemies (and vice-versa). The general consensus after the trial is that this system lead to a better player experience in WvW.”

If not from the forums, where did they collect this feedback? I don’t remember being asked in game (like they had in the beta). My guess is that they used their own feedback and disregarded the community feedback in that trial thread.

So where are the duels? I’ve only had 2-3 so far this match. It breaks up the monotony of running supply and building siege for me.

Reseting the ratings feels like a really stupid decision when compounded with week long matches. If they went back to 24 hour matches for the first week or something it would be fantastic. But volatility is going to be so high after the ratings are reset that I kinda see wvw being more unbalanced than it already is for the coming 2-3 weeks; minimum.

Yep. I see next week being a pretty even fight, but us coming in 3rd. Then we’ll fall to the bottom of the ratings and spend another 4 weeks PvD to get back up to where we should be.

Just curious, but has there ever been a case of Anet reversing something they announced? December culling change was labeled as a trial. Almost all the posts I read said it was worse, but they pushed it on us anyways. I’m really struggling to see where Anet has listened to any feedback from WvW players and changed their plans.

I was hoping they’d fix the bugs in WvW. Get on the forums to find this nonsense instead. Amazing.

So it wasn’t the culling fix they have promised, but it supposed to be a culling fix.

Kill squads, 5 Mans, and Roamers all can have purposes on the battlefield, each actually benefiting the server, just as much as the zergers, defenders, and supply runners.

And this is why I love WvW. Some days I feel like just following, some days defense, some day upgrading, some day scouting, etc. WvW affords me the possibility to do any of those and all help my team.

Just confirmed they didn’t fix the glitch spots in Bay or Hills.
