I like it the way it is. I can swap weapons and go from a ranged build to a melee build on the fly. Plus my choice of skills can be changed on the fly whenever I am not in combat or on cool down. There’s nothing cookie-cutter about your character right out of the box. For once, I can play my character any way I want to.

WoW players are used to paying a subscription… they figure if they are paying for it, it must be entertaining.

As for those who have the crystal ball into Arena.net’s head… I’m glad you already know what is in store for us in the coming months. I’m sure Arena.net would love to hear you post about your predictions as to just what they plan to release and when. Just to make it clear, that you know what your stating is true and not something you made up just to justify your position.

If you launch WoW right this very second… what is going on there that hasn’t been going on for the last 6 months? Sans the new talent trees… you know the umpteeth reworking of the talent trees to date? Are the preponderance of players all standing around in Orgrimmar or Stormwind? Will everyone be level 90 by October 1st?

I don’t have to play that game to know what’s going on in it. In fact, you don’t either… it’s pretty obvious. And yet, they still play that game… as mind boggling as it is.

Don’t judge GW2 harshly because your preferred game failed you and you are looking for a justification to continue playing it. If GW2 is not for you, it’s not for you. We don’t need to know why you’re going back to WoW or any other game…

End Game Content, Where is it? Also locked map areas.

Everything that you have been doing up until level 80 is what you will be doing at 80.

Could the report feature in game be modified to block the names reported so that we don’t continue to see them in chat?

Sometimes the offender is in chat spamming for quite some time.

LOL, if you could make certain words unusable in chat in the manner that you have replaced certain words with kitten… they’d never be able to communicate in chat.

As far as I know, you can’t vendor items that could be useful… the vendors won’t buy them.

I like how the social aspect it the developers fault. Like they have to go out and introduce you to their friends… spark the conversation for you. I will bet, with 100% certainty, that those complaining about a lack of community or socialization, don’t say a thing in chat. Don’t say “Hi!” to those passing by. Don’t engage in any conversation at all.

The funniest part of all is that even in their so-called dream land MMO where everyone says there is all this socialization… there’s none at all unless someone speaks to someone else… and not just to rant… but actually talk as friends.

You can spend 90% of your day on your phone, on facebook, in email, chatting it up about absolutely nothing… you get into game and expect everyone else to do the talking for you. The developer’s can’t prod you into making friends. You have to do that. It’s an epic challenge… one that few ever even try to attempt.

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

Yes… you get XP for everything… heck I gained 3 levels just leveling a crafting profession a little.

You also get drops appropriate to your level in the lower zones, so hanging out in a level 1-15 zone can yield you a level 66 drop (if you are at that level or higher). I wouldn’t farm low level zones for gear, just saying you aren’t punished for not being in a higher level zone.

This game needs PvP Arena

If everyone went into arena and were all level 80’s… no difference between true 80’s and level ups… had the exact same gear… had the exact same build… had the exact same class… then I would vote for it.

Mesmer X versus Mesmer X… you have the same traits, gear, talents… et al… the only difference between you is how well you know how to play your class. No Guardian versus Mesmer… We aren’t testing class versus class… we are testing player versus player.

Odds are, no one would want this, because in the end, they want to be in a situation where they have the advantage… that is what arena is all about… kitten stroking at it’s worst.

You want WoW arena, the door is over there…. clearly it’s not all that if you’re looking for it in another game, now is it?

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

This isn’t a linear MMO where the only way to get from point A to B is by leveling on content close to your level. I’m in my early 70’s and I’m still dabbling around in level 40 zones. Not that I can’t be in the upper zones… I don’t need to be. I’m exploring all the other zones. I’m not trying to hit level 80… but try as I might, I can’t stop leveling LOL.

A good number of high level players stay in the lower zones to complete the hidden nuggets that aren’t part of the map completion… to level their crafting… to just plain have fun.

You will get to 80 a lot faster if you don’t try to get to level 80… let it happen naturally. Play the game to have fun, not to get to max level. The game is everything from level 1-80… why not enjoy it while you do it?

Thank you!

Edna: “November 15th of ’58! All was well, another day saved, when… his cape snagged on a missile fin!”
Bob: “Thunderhead was not the brightest bulb…”
Edna: “Stratogale! April 23rd, ’57! Cape caught in a jet turbine!”
Bob: “E, you can’t generalize about these things…”
Enda: “Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!”
Enda: “No capes!”

Wouldn’t it be awesome if Blizzard added a patch overnight that did the same thing… all those players going “WTF?” at once when they realize they can no longer solo those old world dungeons and raids. Wiped on the trash at the front door.

If you want to see and do the content, see and do it at the level it was intended… not after the fact in faceroll mode. You really didn’t “beat” anything when you are 60 levels above the mobs you are hitting. They can’t even hurt you. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel. If that’s the sort of game you like… go back to WoW. No skill/effort required… just a valid credit account.

Crafting : Really worth it anymore?

I believe you cannot farm materials endlessly… it will eventually yeild nothing the longer you farm. Farm a little, do something else, farm a little more. You can’t just roam around killing the same mobs over and over again… it knows you are doing that and adjusts drop rate accordingly. It’s an anti-farm code.

I guess you need to find out whether they did a free trial for GW1… because if they didn’t for that game, the odds of them doing it for this game is about nil.

Bravo for not including it in this game!

Finding team in WvWvW?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: pmiles.3489

pmiles.3489

Okay only popped into WvWvW twice… solo, not as part of a group. You have three teams, you can see who owns what and where the fighting is. What you can’t tell is where your team is currently at… they all show up as orange combat areas. But which team is there? You could assume it’s yours if it’s near one of your held areas but it’s not always the case.

So basically, outside of doing a guild run, how does one know where the majority of your team is located? Is there a way to see other players and their force outside of being in close proximity to them. Spend a lot of time just getting to the battles only to discover that I’ve run head first into overwhelming odds. I’ve tried to go where chat says to head but usually when I get there they’ve already been wiped.

Healing and Credit.

in Players Helping Players

pmiles.3489

The primary role of every character is damage dealer. We can all participate as a tank, healer, and support… but the game was not designed with pigeon hole roles in mind. The idea is that you dabble in each of these things through the course of the fight.

You say their cooldowns may be down… why are they still in there then? It’s their job to back away when they can’t stay in the fray, not hope that someone else is going to heal them or protect them. They run out, someone else takes over. It’s a dance.

I can get credit merely being nearby an event, so it’s not like you have to do much to be considered as participating. If you never do any DPS at all or do it so late in the encounter as to appear as though you just arrived, then you won’t get ‘Gold’ credit or that skill point.

This isn’t Rift. There are no dedicated healers or tanks… the only dedicated role is damage dealer. We all can do it, we’re all expected to take our turn as tanks and heals… but not play that way exclusively. You choose to play that way, you will find that the game doesn’t reward you for doing so.

GW2 is different. It is meant to be played different. Embrace it, don’t run against the grain because you can.

Mounts

If the whole point of the game is to get out into the environment and explore it, what better way than on foot?

It’s not as bad as you all make it out to be. The world is large and alive when you don’t blitz past everything on a mount.

If you add mounts… make them slow… really slow… like walking pace. That way if they really want to get somewhere fast, they’ll run on foot or use the portals as was originally intended.

I’m loving this game.

I love that you can just wander off in any old direction and do whatever pops up along the way.

I love that I don’t have to pay a subscription to play a game that I already paid for.

I love the fact that I can essentially play my character any way I want. No more pigeon hole into one style of play because that’s what everyone expects you to do.

And I actually love the idea of not having to raid ad-nausem for the next 11 months just to justify a subscription fee. WvWvW, here I come!

I don't get crafting. Help!

1. Don’t buy crafting materials, harvest them yourself.
2. Crafting in GW2 isn’t about making 1000 bronze bars, it’s about discovering new recipes. That’s how you progress your crafting level. You can do it the other way but you will quickly hit a brick wall.
3. Consider salvaging the components that you have made to recover crafting materials if they are of no use to you.
4. Check out the crafting videos out there. They will tell you all you need to know about how to level crafting. It’s not something you power level.
