Not a rant or demand thread just something I was thinking about. bear in mind that I levelled and played mostly the first few months then for another few months during the first set of LS stuff so things might have changed.

Level Cap – When GW2 was announced it was around Wrath of the Lick King was out and its level cap was 80 so I’m guessing that had some influence on the cap same reason M$ didn’t name the second xbox, xbox 2 vs the PS3 :P.

Level Cap should be 30, as by level 30 you have all slots unlocked and elite skill ect there isn’t really any progress afterwards and it just feels like levelling for the sake of it.

The Story was to far spread out and if not at the right level depending on class you would get stomped on, having the story as the main way to level with hearts as optional might have been a nicer way to both see the story and to progress doing a meaningful thing vs gather items or hunt down a bandit style heart quest.

Dungeons are fine I guess (never that great in GW1) but I would have liked an area like SF in GW1 but set in the openworld without being an instance, there are a few places in GW2 that do this, some of the puzzle rooms that’s hidden with a boss at the end for example.

Armor sets in GW1 there was a great variety take ranger for example (was my main and owned all sets hehe) just with the default game not factions EoTN or Nightfall, you could have the trench coat look of the druid set, spikes and skulls, shells and scales of the fire set, FoW set, the collecters/starter set and the fur lined set, all these offered a really different look to each other, yet in GW2 its trench coat city, you really need to mix and match the faction leaders armor to get something half decent looking.

Weapon skins, there doesn’t seem be a lot of different weapon skins that drop in game like for example chaos axes would like to see more drops.

Would also like to have a mode/option where you could select a map and have it made into an instance where nodes/mobs don’t respawn an you can Vanquish it. Would add more group play imo.

So much items go to the cash shop instead of in game either as rewards or drops, for example the Icy Dragon sword(GW1) was put in the game for an event or something I cant remember it and everyone wanted it, I get GW2 is a B2P game but so was GW1, a little bit of a split for items would be nice not 100% cash shop only, even a 70/30 split would be nice.( yes gems but someone has to buy them in the first place)

Legendary Weapons, only change I would make is the way to get them, for example doing world completion should offer a quest to start making the weapon, say the first part is gathering the parts and forging it(sort of like the moa pet in GW1) after the weapon is forged it needs more items to strengthen it, so defeating each of the last bosses in the dungeons for parts(would make dungeons apart of the game more) then maybe need to slay a dragon like the world boss ones for a scale, basically doing in game stuff that’s fun and not farming mats or RNG on the mystic thingy.

Skills, this prob is hardest to do or try :P but in GW1 fun messing with some of the other classes skills for example I did manage to do a 55hp ranger build lol, but in GW2 since skills are tied to the weapons so that’s a no go, what about allowing some of the secondary skills to be used cross class.

This is just preference but id go back to the way underwater was before a few weeks before launch.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I get it Guild Halls are ridiculously expensive and almost impossible for small guilds to obtain and upgrade.

That was the point from the very start. People knew it was gonna be expensive so why all the complaining?

Guild halls are suppose to be meant mainly for large guilds. Why? Incentive.
Let’s be honest in a large guild, if a person gets kicked not many people are gonna care. If its a higher up or an officer there may be some drama but people get over it. If its someone of the lower ranks the people kicking and many of the other members wouldn’t really care. This is the downside of a large guild who don’t have the emotional/personal incentive of a small guild.

Smaller guilds are a tightly knit unit that have grown strong bonds as they have grown attached to the other members as there only a few so its easy to know everyone and be friends with them. And you could have a fully upgraded guild too if you pulled enough money which was not hard to earn pre-HoT. So why join a large guild when you can be a small guild with your close friends? Benefits from the large guilds.

Large Guilds have numbers and vast amount of resources to back up their large numbers/presence. With the old guild system the incentive of repping and earning influence for large guilds meant 24 hour buffs like exp, karma, harvesting, wvw upgrades, etc. But even small guilds could accomplish this feat pretty easily if they earned enough and farmed things and did events together which they most likely did as they would do everything together.

With the new guild system the only way to keep members from constantly leaving (or at least to constantly recruit to fill those that left) is the guild hall and its various upgrades. So of course large guild will get those upgrades and flesh out their guild hall easier and faster than the small guilds.

If you really want a fully upgraded guild hall and those buffs and stuff, merge into a big guild. If you don’t like them or how they conduct things, leave. Otherwise don’t complain about a system that was clearly intended from the very beginning to benefit to large guilds hold their communities together. Guild Halls are suppose to represent the effort of hundreds of players and their dedication to the guild as a whole.

tl;dr GH meant for large guilds not for small guilds

Sorry my guild in GW1 was a small guild 10 ppl or so yet we had a guild hall with every vendor in it.

Nice that the OP likes it, it made me cringe they keep GW2 so far from GW1 yet import assests from GW1 into GW2 that armor was one of the Dervish elite skills that turned into the avatar of a god in this case Lyssa.

This is what bugs me, in GW1 you had so many armors that you could get ingame, GW2 has a handful with more being in the cash shop, GW1 was as much about farming skins for armor as it was weapons :P

Either put the things in GW1 that was fun into GW2 or just stop connecting them at all as they are nothing alike atm.

In reference to content packets:
“No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.” – Colin Johanson

Yes, Colin said this. This alone is misleading though. Anet stated before launch that they would eventually do more content which we would have to pay for too. I don’t think that ever changed, which is why they never explicitly said that they would never do a true boxed expansion. I think their hope was that they could subsist on the gemstore, and push out regular enjoyable content via the living world, but that may have been too forward thinking for this genre.

Also…. people asked for MORE content when they asked for an expansion.

This is true….

People never asked for living world to stop, so that anet could save up all those releases, and SELL them to us all at once.

However, this isn’t precisely true. People did ask for LS to stop.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/Living-world-needs-to-stop/first
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/please-stop-this-whole-living-world-thing
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/Please-stop-rushing-content-down-ANet

Just to cite a couple of them. There were a lot of reasons given as to why people wanted the LS to stop. One of which being that they did want the content that would have been contained in a LS season rolled into an expansion, but they also expected that an expansion (being what it is) would also have …well, more. They assumed that by stopping the LS cadence, Anet would have more time to put into development, and as such deliver us a more substantial chunk of content. Some of argued that wouldn’t necessarily be the case; Anet can only build content so fast after all. However, those that wanted an ‘expansion’ were obviously louder than those of us that didn’t see an expansion as the solution to the problem.

Fans of the franchise who were familiar with the game’s content doubling or even tripling with the release of every expansion in the original Guild Wars title don’t consider GW2:HoT an expansion. Hell… many people who never even played Gw1, but played gw2 from launch feel the same way.

HoT was not a true expansion…. and you can’t deny that.

HoT seems to be…lacking, a bit…for some people. I will agree to an extent. However, I’m also aware the GW2 is not GW1. It’s not even the same scope or the same type of development. There is more to it, so perhaps it’s not precisely fair to use it as a measuring stick. Although, I admit, that I have done so too (and probably will again). Still, HoT is to GW2, as EotN was to GW1. If you recall, people screamed that EotN was lacking too.

EotN issues was it was dead before it was released due to Anet saying it was the last ever content for GW1 at least for me it was.

In saying that although is wasn’t as big as Factions or Nightfall, it was still a decent size and opened the maps up a bit more, it brought in a boat load of skills, Dungeons for the 1st time if we discount SF as a dungeon of sorts, lots of new Mini games, new heroes to find, new greens, new elites to hunt down, farming spots and a new endgame content. Even offered up new styles like glasses and bandana’s ect.

As a massive fan of GW1 played it everyday to the end of EOTN I hardly play GW2 I’m not sure how they go from GW1 and reduce so much in GW2.

Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

I honestly never saw a dev approaching playerbase this close, even when they’re all hanging torches and pitchforks… you’re awesome, Gaile. <3

you should visit more games forums, Marvel Heroes for example have devs posting almost daily and not just lower staff the head guys and staff.

Anet: It's time to move to paid expansions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: raiden.9024

raiden.9024

No expansion please. GW2 has always tried to avoid the mistakes of previous MMOs and paid expansions were part of the tired, unthinking, dogmatic financing of the last generation. No level cap increase. No gear grind. No instanced raids. No waits for 12 months between updates. No expansion.

I’m sorry is GW2 your 1st MMO ? lets see

WoW how many expacs that bring in NEW Players ? TBC higher player count than vanilla WoW Wrath the peak of WoW now WoD subs are up 600k with no content for 1 year because…. that’s right and expansion.

DCUO has like 12 EQ/EQ2 got so many I lost count lol

DUCO is like GW1 the level cap is low level 20 and the expacs offer new content, with new gear.

GW2 offers new gear for a price ie the store, for 2 years how many new skins have been in game only ? only ppl who want GW2 to die or fade away to nothing want no expacs.

living story isn’t even remotely considered content, its 20 mins of fluff that doesn’t matter because it doesn’t stay.

think what Factions and Nightfall brought to GW1, then Anet killed it with EoTN and saying last ever content lol

and just FYI GW2 is far more of a grind than WoW lol I came back to WoW last week and fully geared within a few days.

things i would change in GW2

Was thinking about this for a while so I thought id write it down.

Skills : I would unbind skills from weapons and classes, but keeping Elite skills linked to their profession. this would mean for example a warrior could take a rangers pet and say some guardian skills. skills would still depend on use of weapon but wouldn’t be bound to the skill bar, for example barrage would be useable only with a bow, but using a bow, wouldn’t auto fill your bar with skills.

Henchmen: since GW2 is more open than GW1 maps you cant really do the full party thing when roaming, BUT having one henchmen when questing ect would work, you could level him/her up give a small talent tree too, maybe expand it to max party size when in dungeons depending on AI.

Signet of capture: I would put in alot more skills (PvE only as they seem to balance it off Wpvp) so you would have to go hunt down a unique named boss with your professions aura, granting you either a normal skill or a new Elite spell like spitefull spirit for nerco’s

Unique bosses : this sort of ties in with Signet of capture but have named bosses or unique model bosses that drop unique weapons/skins still RNG based but you know they can drop something cool.

Solo challenge: id like to see some solo challenge modes/dungeons, GW1 had a few the drunk dwarf one springs to mind, one easy way would be to scale dungeons down, but scaling loot down also so its not better or worst than doing it with a full party

Factions: not the expac but use of the 3 factions more: picking these atm does nothing but say’s who dies mid game, how about attaching quests or events to these factions example order of wishpers sends you out to assassinate a target that randomly spawns and you have to track it down.

Housing: yes we have one sort off, but it isn’t being used to the max, why not treat this like the old HoM in GW1 store armor sets trophies mini pets ect being able to hire NPC to work say on gathering nodes for a fee.

'Content you normally see in an expansion'?

raiden.9024

depends how big the expansion would be to price
idk about 60$ it would need to be a insane expansion … new game

An “insane” expansion is typically what you would see. I would gladly pay(wouldn’t expect anything different either) $60 for an expansion the size of Factions, nightfall or any of the WoW expansions.
I would also be okay with paying $10-$20 every 4-6 months for a DLC type expansion.

even F2P games like DCUO put out decent DLC packs (expansions) for 7£ or so every 3-4 months, adding zones powers dungeons(cant remember what they called in it) raids and duos. if SOE can do it surely Anet can.

Well depends how much Wildstar drags Ncsofts profits imo. if they need to close W* expect even more store items.

ofc from a GW1 player id love to see more GW1 than WoW lite but that’s just me.

Raids are coming to GW2!

raiden.9024

Raids in GW2… I might actually come back to the game if they are well done.

A couple things need to happen though:

1. PvP and PvE balance will need to be separated
2. Condition specs will need to be fixed
3. Raids must be instanced and challenging
4. Raids must be no larger than 15 people

If those 4 things are done then I think raids could be a big boon for GW2.

I’m sorry I don’t post much here but.

Raids in a game with no tank or healers, what do you expect ? instead of 4 warriors and a mes, it will be 8 warriors and 2 mes if 10 man. Will be a total Zerg fest what else can it be ?

Removing the tank and healer removed a lot when it comes to mechanics to gameplay.

Coming back need a little info.

1, last time I checked back the champ train was the thing, is that still around?

2, Never really did dungeons, whats the easiest class to do them story and erm challenge mode?

3, any big/active guilds on Deso EU who do group content/acheviements? (think that was the server I was on)

4, are groups still 4 warriors and a Mesmer ?

5, do u still need W3 for 100% map ?

4, havnt really done many LS I think last one was the four winds, did I miss anything important ?

I spent most of my time in WoW farming old gear.

Vp in WoW takes a lot less time to get than in gw2, by the time you have a set of ascended armor maybe 2-3 whole teirs can pass, unless you just buying with cash.

Vp can work, I didn’t quit gw2 because of vp or none it was the lacking content at all, LS was awful gemstore added more than in game armor ect.

Hmm, okay I see. So huge zergs are going to be an issue regardless but will still be playable at least.

But it would still be able to handle any of todays games though right? I would like to begin to start playing some of the new games coming out this year.

Someone recommended these parts to me:

CPU:
Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory:
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage:
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Hard Drive:
Seagate Barracuda ES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card:
Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card
Case:
NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply:
XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive:
LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer
OS:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Feck the I5 and go for an I7 (if you have to save a little while longer to do so, do. ..the I5 are a little disappointing in the gaming market despite being advertised as suitable.)

The rest is grand, a very similar build to my own.
Yes it’ll play other games no bother, and graphics are good. Make sure to choose your heat sink and fans well if you want to play on high settings.

If you want more info, I suggest asking about this spec on a computer orientated forum instead.

btw, if there’s a cheaper RAM brand (same gigs) go for it, the faster ram speed is negligible in comparison to the rest of the comp.

I5 same performance than i7 most cases ht is useless for most apps unless he’s into editing.

Levels are there to space out elements in the learning process. Different aspects of the complete Level 80 experience are introduced over time. You get used to having Utility skills before you get your Elite skill. You have time to practice with and experiment with adept level traits before you gain access to master traits, etc.

Explain what your doing past 30 you got your skills and elite how the game works by level 10, master traits? Have they gotten better since launch most were crap others no brainers.

Cash shop offering unique skins in a game about cosmetics or hidden In rng boxes and the crystals to use them at 80, they make more cash of this “fluff” as ppl want to be unique why not add them skins as a Rare drop as well as cash shop same with pets if they are making the money off the box sales alone. Heck /tinfoil hat in beta and launch by bags were full of dye, now never see one.

It’s double dipping because of the box price, it’s fine for f2p games to have cash shops as you paid nothing in the first place.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As I pointed out in my previous post, I could come up with some reason why PvPers should do dungeons. But it would perfectly obvious that would be contrived, since dungeons really have nothing to do with the gameplay of PvP. I.e. that would then be as contrived as the WvW for map completion currently is.

PvP/WvW players DO HAVE TO DO dungeons, for the Gift of (Dungeon), to make a legendary.

????????????????????????????? Facts are your friend.

Now go join a wvw guild, join your server teamspeak, and go enjoy some wvw.

We’ll enjoying the banter than the Zerg gameplay is a different thing, most raid nights for me was more enjoyable just listen to the banter than slogging through the raids. Ppl shouldn’t be forced into pve or pvp end off even Blizzard finally got this after trying to force world pvp for 3xpacs.

Ascended - changing stats combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Won’t happen and shouldn’t.
This is the offset price you pay for jumping on board the vertical progression train. You build-lock yourself for the benefit of slightly higher stats.

Not only would it detract from Legendary weapons (and upcoming trinkets and rumored armor), it flies in the face of all the reasons they had for justifying adding Ascended to game in the first place. It wasn’t supposed to be easily accessible and that’s exactly what you’re asking for. More easily accessible ways to get the same armor with different stats.

Sorry u didn’t play gw1 ? With nightfall you could swap out stats through runes, some being class limited. Only base armor stat stayed the same on armours ie 100 def on plate or was it 80.

I was looking up eye of the north release date as I couldn’t remember it. He’s what it came with

The expansion introduces:
41 new armor sets, including rare, stand-alone pieces
100 new profession-specific skills (10 per profession, none of which are elite)
50 new PvE only skills including 3 elite skills
10 new heroes
18 Dungeons
124 new quests
The Hall of Monuments, a place which allows you to obtain unique titles, companions, weapons, armor, and miniatures in Guild Wars 2 based on your achievements in the original Guild Wars. The Hall of Monuments does not support the transfer of characters or gold.
Actions have more consequences. For example, if you lose NPCs that help you, you can choose to continue without them (and their help) instead of being forced to try again (although you may start over with a clean slate by going back to town). Similarly, if you rescue NPCs, they may join you and help you.
More than the previous campaigns, Eye of the North is full of easter eggs and “hidden” quests, which are not immediately accessible.

Now that’s a lot of features, I had forgotten it added so many skins.

Kinda voids the challenge tho. Plus how did you not hit 80 long before Orr you did all hearts and skill points locations vista they all give exp.

You can’t read or something?

Getting out of the water (fish champ) the same time as the others they use their swiftness I still have mine waiting and can’t keep up, even from a way point pre using swiftness I can’t keep up, not sure how else to type this out maybe phonetically?

Astral I’ve noticed that too so only use it when not near mobs.

Still think a long quest series taking you all over would work better, since it be long can’t be farmed as much or as quick, also bound item at the end so no reselling.

Doesn’t skill points challenges count for completion, some nasty ones in Orr even for lvl 80s so if you didn’t do this solo, what’s the point anyone with a guild/friends any lvl could do it if they wanted.

I noticed a handful of ppl in the “train” run a lot faster and pull away from me, I’m a ranger with the signet for 25% speed and also horn for the buff to speed yet I can’t keep up? The speed buffs don’t stack for speed only duration as far as I remember.
