The more we have to farm or grind dungeons, then the less WvW we get to do. This makes us lose in WvW and that is not acceptable to us who work at trying to control EB and the BL’s as best as we can.

Patch Feedback [merged]

replicant.3620

We didn’t need a feedback thread since this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Thoughts-on-Ascended-Gear-Merged-threads was already being used for such.

This event has not worked very much. With the amount latency and broken quest chains it has been a very painful experience. The addition of Ascended gear was a poor move imo and goes against the game philosophy we followed you to the game over. Many of us feel duped with this patch/event as it goes against the very spirit of the game we have been supporting for years now. Keep all gear at the level of Exotics and make Ascended/Legendary maintain being only cosmetic upgrades. This way the game stays the same as we agreed to when we showed you how much we liked your game. If you want to keep Infusions, then do it similar to GW1 with the small quest or just create a quest to add Infusion slots to existing gear. It’s not a very hard thing to work toward keeping your fanbase from being alienated by the current look of gear progression and “grinds”.

We didn’t need these things in GW1 and we don’t need them in GW2.

We shouldn’t need/wan “Infusions” in WvW and Ascended WvW Gear (aka Soldier) is next to worthless for most builds. Not to mention how hard it is to get WvW badges now for Exotics (much less Ascended) without abusing puzzle mechanics.

You are correct in that with the current direction of high end gear creation it is very much treading on the Pay2Win market. Legendary and Ascended are gotten so fast currently because of people paying lots of RL cash for gems converted to gold, guilds funding the person, spectators funding the person, simply buying gold, etc… The current trend of the game is insanely against the original philosophy for the game.

WvW Ascended gear doesn’t solve the problem because we all don’t use Soldier gear. Pow/Tou/Vit gear is heavily in the minority of gear used in the game for the vast majority of sPvP/WvW builds.

There was no complaint on Exotic because it was understood to be your endgame set and it has a multitude of avenues in which to procur it. Now WvW specific Exotic gear is quite hard to get legitimately because of poor badge drops. The majority who actually use the set got it via abusing the jumping puzzle.

I run nightly in almost exclusive solo or duo capacity. This is what I got used to doing in DAoC, WAR, WoW, etc and the playstyle still works just fine in GW2 and oddly enough I don’t do it on a stealth class in this game. I flip Sentries and Supply Camps, kill Yaks, create attacks on Towers which are usually a feint, and catch stragglers behind the enemy zerg (or the PvE’er working on World Completion). Usually I only link up with the zerg when it’s a hard needed push on a Keep or Reinforced Tower. Otherwise, I find 1v1 or 1v2 fights pretty commonly. If I see a large force coming in my direction, then I head to a different objective after calling out the information and work on something else. Situational Awareness saves you from zergs. I agree that gear will rarely if ever save you from dying to large scale forces, but in fights that aren’t culling nightmares an extra 5, 8, 10, 26, etc percent on gear will make a huge difference.

Seems a couple of you are missing the point as it would not be putting everyone on the exact same footing as you and would not be awarding them anything they hadn’t already earned. If they were level 8 in Fine gear they’d be adjusted to Lvl 80 in the equivalent stat Fine gear. If they were level 80 in Exotic there would be no change and lvl 80 in Ascended/Legendary would be treated as Lvl 80 Exotic for sake of equal footing.

Also, this is taking it up with Anet. Hence the post on the Official forums. As for some of the rest it’s just basic trolling/sarcasm so not responding to it.

I personally feel this is the right direction to move WvW toward.
Whether you agree or disagree lets try and keep the discussion above the belt.

For those who disagree with it I am very interested in your reasons for opposing making WvW at least from a character equipment standpoint more equal.

We’ve been using TS/Vent/Mumble/Skype/<Insert FOTM VOIP> for years now and they’ve been requirements for many guilds for the past decade or so. If you have a condition that makes it where you cannot use such programs, then you need to find a guild that is willing to work with you. In FFXI and WoW I had guildmates who were deaf and we were able to work with them just fine. However, I’d wager the vast majority of guilds aren’t going to be willing to put in the extra legwork. Just help them on the guild recruitment pages in finding a guild willing to work with them or create your own.

When it comes to Vit and Tou it really comes down to the damage type your oppnent is using as to your survivability. While an Ele for example has great tools like Mist Form and Earth Shield to mitigate tons of damage. Mesmer gets some nice survivabilty from the deception created by your invisibilty and clones causing tons of target drops. A warrior is just simply there.

[Proposal] WvW Gear normalized like sPvP Gear

replicant.3620

I see GW2 trying to cater to a multitude of individual players across the board and to some extent I find that admirable. Each person wants to play the game in a specific way whether the rest of us deem it good or bad. The issue for me is that I came to GW2 to get away from the standard MMORPG’s that I have played for years. The promises and philosophies that were expressed by Anet for GW2 painted a picture of a game that would offer you a multitude of ways to experience the game and enable the progress of your character. Once you reached maximum level you’d then have content in the form of crafting, exploration, hearts, events, sPvP, WvW, Dungeons, etc. You would also have Exotic Armors as your final armor to work on and at that point you’d be on even footing in all situations. The Legendary Items implemented would simply be graphic upgrades to show off on your character.

With the recent patch/event we are given a new set of equipment (Ascended) that is supposed to be a bridge between Exotic and Legendary. A bridge I might add that was from our knowledge supposed to never exist and not needed as we saw in GW1. The addition of the Fractals was content for those PvE players who felt there was not enough “end-game” to keep them busy, when GW2 had never promised them a traditional end-game grind like you would find in WoW, EQ, etc. The increased stats on items added and to be added make them a must for those who wish to remain competitive in PvE or WvW. Yes, you can argue that skill beats out increased stats, but with the + Stat % we are seeing currently becomes a full set (Ascended/Legendary) your skill threshold will vanish rather quickly.

For those who enjoy sPvP as their main focus in the game they are untouched by these changes. Gear is Normalized to create an even play environment. This way it has the potential of really helping them push into e-sports once they get Spectator Mode and other bells & whistles added in.

WvW like sPvP is a main focus for another large contingent of us. Whether you say it doesn’t require skill to PvDoor, zerg people down, etc is not the argument. This is a large scale version of PvP (Which unfortunately also has PvE implements that create other issues such as Vista/Puzzle camping and the such) where we coordinate efforts to obtain objectives. You also send solo/duo scouts, small skirmish teams, etc to obtain various other easier objectives or to cause your enemy to break apart to deal with multiple attacks. It’s not always Zerg V Zerg as small scale fights are still quite plentiful. We go out and we fight for server pride, personal status, or simply to kill the opponent. The majority of us have no desire to run dungeons and we farm just enough (if needed) to purchase gear or siege.

My proposal: Just as sPvP has an Exotic threshold it would be nice to extend this to WvW as well. You can leave all of the PvE aspects in WvW and allow new players to come in auto-leveled to 80 to gain experience and such, but Normalizing the gear would keep things in an even footing for all involved. Now I am not asking that you give us the sPvP armors, full skill sets, and freedom to pretty much act like an 80 without the effort. I am asking that you put a Standardized/Normalized Exotic Maximum of stats on our gear when we are in a WvW environment when equipped with Exotic or better gear.

TLDR: When in WvW zones the stats on your gear never exceed Exotic stat limitations or abilities no matter what equipment you are wearing.

Fractals - Getting booted from Dungeons?

Ok, first off I have enjoyed playing in FOTM what little bit I got to do this morning. They seem to require a bit of thought and not just faceroll zerging.

The problem I came across is I went into the Fractals twice today and I haven’t gotten to finish any of them yet. Both times my group was fighting against the Legendary Imbued Shaman and when he got to approximately 25%-50% life we just suddenly got kicked from the dungeon. This got people annoyed and we just broke apart. A couple friends I talked to had similar instances in different fractals where they (Their respective groups.) just got randomly booted in a fight as well and had to re-enter from the beginning.

I know the dungeon for the most part has to be working since I see people looking for Lvl 2-Lvl 7 Fractal Diff groups in LA.

Is this something more of you have came across?

Lock gear stats in WvW to Worn Exotic Levels just like sPvP and I won’t care what other PvE gear treadmills they add into the game ever. Let the PvE players grind out the monster gear if that is what they wish to do. Keep all forms of PvP away from that type of gear progression (or regression as some of us see it).

The infusion aspect is fine as long as it is confined to PvE content just as it was in GW1 when we had to deal with the Mursaat and used a similar mechanic. This stat increase is simply a claw attempt at getting people who went back to WoW or are going back to Rift this week to stay or return. It’s a desperate act to get people back who never truly understood the game in the first place and a spit in the face to those of us who supported them for years while they brought us this wonderful game.

Yes, but it isn’t even a -huge- stat gap. Not to mention they are going to release it in stages and not all at once.

The complaints about it were -mostly- based around the fact that people -thought- it would result in a gear treadmill. That isn’t the case, as they have pointed out.

Now if you’re going to make that big of a deal over a tiny stat difference then -wow-, just -wow-.

Oh -also- they are going to release it for other aspects of content as well. WvW and whatever else. Chill your kitten, seriously.

WvW Stat gear is pretty terrible for most builds. Pow/Tou/Vit isn’t going to work for the majority of builds out there so we go for other gear depending on the build. Berserker gear like I am currently using isn’t even dropped in the game so luckily I am a 400 Tailor and can craft it. The “big deal” people are making over this is because of broken promises and lack of communication. As for your point on tiny stat difference you have to take into account not just one ring, but an entire set of gear. You are looking at 20 Power, 20 Precision just from Rings and Earrings alone. Then factor in your weapons, armor, necklace, back, etc and you’re looking at potentially 75+ Power and Precision in your set over Exotics. That is why people call it a “Power Creep” because initially it looks very small and unassuming until everything is added up and then you have the door open for more increases as people come to accept the changes.

I wasn’t aware that the increase in stats (what like 5%) ruins w v w because the five percent completely overtakes any strategy required in wvw. Not sure what servers you guys are in but ours is pretty competitive SBI. Also skill is required especially for those just going around trying to fight someone 1v1. I can take down people with legendaries with my blue weapons 1v1. Someone can have the best gear in the game of they want. I can have slightly worse weapons but if you can outplay them, you will win. Think first, speak later

Evenly skilled opponents versus each other end in a stalemate (Double KO if you will.). Add +5% to the gear of Player 1 and he always wins. As for skill in WvW… Right now it’s setting siege in kinked up spots and portal bombing your way to victory. If you have big enough numbers then it just comes down to PvDoor in the off hours. I personally enjoy running around solo/duo and skirmishing with random opponents in WvW for more interesting fights. I already have 3 sets of Exotics on my Necro for various builds. Kinda sucks to think that the gear which was supposed to be my “end game” gear is now one to two tiers below that limit.

I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores.

Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director

So, what you are saying here is that you are not listening to anyone and you are going to blindly shove an obvious treadmill at us disguised as “content”?

There was never supposed to be gear progression from Exotic to Legendary. Legendary was a status symbol and nothing else. You are now abandoning your design principles and trying to out market us into thinking you are doing it for our betterment. It IS a treadmill when you add in the fact that our Lvl 80 plateau for gear now slopes upward because we have to do Exotic → Ascended/Legendary to remain competitive. We didn’t need this in GW1 and we don’t need it in GW2. It’s that simple.

If you truly wanted people to not get Legendary items so quickly, then you should have made the vast majority of the items needed for it unable to be traded or bought. People have Legendary pieces now because they spent a lot of RL cash to buy gems and turn into gold, had guilds funding them, simply set their life on hold to push for that sparkle pony, or all of the above.

The game has item progression which plateaus at Lvl 80. For years it was promised to us that this was how it was going to work. Once we got to 80 and picked up our Exotics we’d be done with gathering gear because we’d have the best and any other gear “upgrades” would be purely cosmetic. This was part of their core design philosophy to help them stand out from the vast majority of MMORPG’s. With the inclusion of Ascended items at least in the Rings and Back Items so far we are seeing that philosophy thrown out along with the addition of Gear Checks on High End content.

This shows us that Anet is losing focus on their design philosophy or that they simply lied to us in the past. Many of us left games like WoW, SWTOR, Rift, EQ2, etc to get away from the basic Carrot on a Stick treadmills because GW2 promised us something different and to this point in time they have done so quite well in my opinion. This patch however has the potential to completely unravel every good deed they have done since it looks to be pushing the game in the direction of a simple copy pasta. We didn’t need this stuff in GW1 and we don’t need it in GW2.

Removing AOE Caps creates terrifying fun in different ways. I remember in WoW Vanilla running with a group of rogues (roguhly 10 of us) and we were all Goblin Engineers. We’d stealth into an Alliance Raid at the Tarren Mill/Southshore Tug-O-Wars (Back in the days of Contribution Points.) and via TS we’d all detonate Goblin Sapper Charges at the same time. I always enjoyed names so I could recognize people who actually tested me and put up serious fights. In DAoC Stealther Wars it was nice because you started to recognize people by playstyle and areas, so you knew where to go for a good fight or when to expect 5 other stealthers to AJ you. In WAR I played on Bechafen, Praag, and finally Dark Crag (all forced moves) and got to fight against some wonderful people. You start to recognize people and know how they are going to approach you solo or grouped. WoW was the same way prior to Battlegroups and even then on a PvP server I recognized people for these same patterns.

Knowing the names can be bad for people who simply don’t want to trashed or punklogged on, but it can also the the other side of the coin where people recognize for being a solid player, honorable fighter, etc. I’ve made quite a few good friends over the years from people who were my enemies in the games I’ve played.

Well, I’m used to what I always considered a Quickstomp where I have to Fear as soon as I get my abilities. Pretty rough as a Necro since our Fear is 1.25s cast for a 2s Fear.

This is different though. I was stomped as soon as I came out of the Downed State transition screen. Literally not a chance to press a button because I was dead as they appeared.

If this is simply stacking Quickness somehow I need to really look into that more.

Is this a new (at least new to me) trick that people have discovered? I was in a 1v1 with a Mesmer and went into the downed state. Before I could press 1 I was stomped. No animation, no cast time, just stomped. I figured it might be a fluke, so I dismissed it. A short while later I was against a Thief and the exact same thing happened. I figured he would do the basic stealth stomp which is annoying, but as a Necro I can shroudstomp so I can’t complain about that. Instead I was stomped pretty much as soon as I entered the Downed state.

This instastomping makes it where you have zero chance of recovery and trying to turn the tables. Since Friday I have had this happen on 5 different ocassions. Just curious if anyone has come across this.

You and I must have played different versions of DAoC. 11 years ago in RvR we didn’t have the issues with rendering that GW2 has now. When they did the full revamp about 6-7 years ago we didn’t have those issues either. During relic raids with hundreds of people on screen it wasn’t a slide show or something I couldn’t pick my targets easily out in. Shadowbane and Warhammer were completely different stories though as SB couldn’t handle anything very well over 50 people like you said and WAR started to fall apart once you got closer to 100 people. That is why WAR removed Fortresses and lowered City Siege instance caps, but the Keep sieges still showed you just how problematic the engine could get.

I never got a chance to try Darkfall and see how well it handled large-scale pvp. Although, I heard with their relaunch they are going to make things more inclusive and instanced similar to WoW.

GW2 does need to do something about the culling issues within the game because someone messed up somewhere between the coding and the networking.

They had already revealed back in Alpha that the PvP would be nameless like it was in Dark Age of Camelot. In DAoC we could figure out the name of the person who killed us or we fought by looking at the Combat Log which GW2 kindly covered up as well. However, you can still click on someone to report them and see their Anet ID so it’s not completely anonymous in GW2.

WvW is supposed to be about your part within the server as a whole and not your individual achievements in the grand scheme of things. This was all laid out well beforehand so if you’re complaining about it now, then you really missed the boat.

SoR won’t be ready for T1 until we get stronger Late Night coverage. When I usually play between 12am-8am Eastern our presence is very limited. This time of night is when you see SoS in their shining moment as they have masses running roughshod over us while we have Outmanned “buffs”. That is why they currently have +510 when shortly ago it was +280. We just don’t have the proper numbers in the various timezones to maintain a constant amount of pressure on our opposition. Everyday we have to play catch up and while it’s not impossible to win that way, it is very difficult to say the least.
