Is it possible you are misunderstanding how this works? The skin should be unlocked, but it will not be an item in your inventory like when you buy an actual skin, seperate from a weapon. You have to select it from your wardrobe screen and spend a transmutation charge to change your current greatsword into the model you want.

Sorry If this is not the issue, just making sure.

If you’ve been playing for three years and never noticed it I don’t see how you can really frame it as this big obtrusive issue.

Change Dragonite Ore and Bloodstone Dust text from purple to grey. Change nothing else. The only reason people are hoarding this is out of some weird perception of value due to its inclusion in ascended etc. recipes. If you aren’t going to / don’t need to use it for that then it has no value. It’s no different than getting stacks of random unsellable white junk.

Solved, thank you :)

I have a gaming computer. I run Teq on ultra settings without lag…

Until tonight. At each burn phase, my game was halted to an absolute standstill. This has never happened in my entire time playing GW2 and it was only during the burn phases. I crashed at the last burn.

So I have to ask, what the kitten did Anet do to the game? One day, no lag, next freezing screens and crashes?

Has been fine for me since last patch. Might have been isolated incident. Computers crash sometimes.

Couldn’t people just taxi in and drop group if being in one is an issue with stacking?

Overall pretty happy with heavy armor variety. My only real issue is jiggle physics on boobplate… There’s just something wrong with that. Metal… Doesn’t move that way.

Phalanx Strength Warrior is support, and is the 100% defacto for every dungeon team that wants to do a serious dungeon clear.

They wanted there to be no reason to have to just wait on a specific role/class to show up to do something, and there really isn’t.

Why do you play female characters as a guy?

I’m a straight guy. I have all human female characters and a female norn. The real question is, how could you not play as a female character?

Also a straight guy, I played with GI Joes growing up so when I play with virtual dolls (which is basically what MMO characters are) I gravitate toward the more masculine “toys”.

Otherwise I’m really just dressing up a Barbie doll and trying to justify it by saying that Barbie dolls are sexier.

I’d rather play with my GI Joe and use the Internet for my other……..needs.

This catches my attention. Playing opposite gendered characters isn’t something that should have to be justified any more than choosing chocolate over skittles. There are reasons- sure, there are reasons for anything- but justification implies some kind of transgression.

The fact that people find this transgressive illustrates our culture’s gender insecurities- someone asked upthread why this conversation has gone on so long, and this is why, for me. It’s fascinating.

Note to reader: I’m not saying you’re insecure, of course your motivations are completely rational and free from neurosis…

I also laugh at the responses about the appeal of looking at a girl character while you are playing.

Why would you deride someone’s reasons for doing what they do?

Did you also play with barbies instead of GI joes growing up?

This is apples to oranges. I was all about She-Ra action figures over He-Man though, which is a better comparison.

I think that being kitten or cool on your male characters is much more fun than playing a female toon.

And this is the same sentiment that you’re laughing at above, just reversed.

Let’s turn it around

Why is it expected that males should/would play males and females females? Why is this the accepted norm, and why does it usually end in a question about sexual orientation if the opposite happens?

I think that’s because the assumption, when given a choice in an avatar (unlike say Diablo II), that the player will see the avatar as a projection of themselves but probably idealized (thinner, stronger, taller, prettier … with hair). And that might be true if RPing was a priority. But since most people don’t actually RP as their avatar it really isn’t a RP breaking issue (if using voice chat).

If you played games for as long as some of us, we’ve played female characters since we didn’t have much of a choice. Samus, Laura Croft, the sorceress in Diablo II, the gender of the avatar you are “driving” is immaterial. So when given a choice is your avatar’s gender any different than skin or hair color. It’s just one of the few choices you have to customize your avatar’s look (I came from CoH so yes, few choices).

Is choosing race any odder than gender? Are you a furry because you like Charr? What about skin tone or hair color? Have you always secretly wanted to be blond or a redhead?

Go CoH! I4 through sunset, Virtue.

Interesting that you bring up races as I was having a discussion recently along those lines. Discusee was asserting that they didn’t understand how anyone could ‘get into’ a character of a different gender since males and females were so different from each other. My position was that the variety of races differed far more from being a human in our real world than being a different gender would.

For instance, if I chose to play a female asura, the bulk of the difference between me and that character is that the character is asura(and that they exist in a completely different world/culture) and I am human, with gender being a secondary difference. I have more in common with my girlfriend then I do with even a male human in Tyria.

Why do we do that?

I can only speculate, and use myself as an example. I’m a straight male and 90% of the time I have a gender choice in a game I choose female. I love the female form- and this isn’t about sexualizing pixels, it’s an aesthetic preference. I just don’t care about how any of the few male characters I make look and usually end up deleting them.

The male body is boring to me.

Let’s turn it around

Why is it expected that males should/would play males and females females? Why is this the accepted norm, and why does it usually end in a question about sexual orientation if the opposite happens?

RNG Conspiracy Conundrum

sarasvatri.6871

Yes, in my opinion there should be streak breakers, or other methods of negating the “low outlier” experience. That is however not because RNG is broken (since it isn’t), but because it is working right (which has some negative consequences).

This is the most interesting bit I’ve gotten out of any of these posts.

Thanks for the reply! Interesting. Axe OH, huh? I’ll play around with that today.

Keep at it, get used to the sword autoattack and the windows it allows for dodging and that’s pretty much it.

I was thinking about this earlier today… Can I just take the AA off auto and hit it manually (assuming fingers of steel) to better be able to dodge at will? Does that even make sense?

tldr: Can I Ranger as pure melee?

Hi Rangers!

I started on a whim thinking that I wouldn’t like the class at all, but it turns out to be a lot of fun. I’m leveling open world PvE right now, mostly solo. I know, I know, face tank everything and bash head on keyboard to win, no problem.

Last week I was messing around with melee weapons after mostly using LB and the occasional GS. Something about Sword really piqued my interest so I played a bit with LB+Sword/WH. Then I tried Sword/Torch and really liked that too… (torch 5 + wh 5 is nice)

So I ditched LB completely. For the past week I’ve been all sword/torch/wh and it’s been a blast.

On to my question. I know that I should do whatever the frak I want- and I will. But I’m always curious about efficacy. Can I be a good Ranger in a group dungeon/fractal/WvW/sPvP scenario as all-melee? Obviously keeping a bow in inventory for those edge cases. Am I just being a squishier warrior, or can I bring interesting/effective nourishment to the team smorgasboard?
