Armor Request: Battlemage

I went with this look for the first year and a half the game was out, and still have most of it sitting in my inventory, really should just get rid of it, but I’m attached. It’s basically meant to look like robes with armor over it.

You can swap out the legs for ascalonian pants if you don’t want a robe look. There is unfortunately coat tails on the female AC pants, but at least its not a skirt. You can also do similarly battle-mage-y stuff with the Glorious armor from PvP and a few other random pieces here and there. But more such pieces would definitely be appreciated.

That looks great, gj man.

Technology bro.

This. It’s pretty amazing how quickly things advance, graphics and systems both. I’m having more fun now than I ever did with GW1. In terms of price, when you adjust for inflation, things are pretty much in line or better in terms of quality.

Thanks for pointing this out OP.

I don’t buy that a ping of 120 could negatively impact gameplay to any appreciable extent. If you play well at 80ms, 120 wouldn’t be noticeable. Both of those are still below normal human reaction time…

2762 is not doable though!

The math holds up because it’s not half of all the retailers. Read the rest of the sentence!

Lol I know, but I did specifically say US retailers, not digital retailers, of which there are only four, with two not carrying anymore, and I checked the broken site too just to make sure. Which only makes sense really, GW2 doesn’t have a real physical copy, just a cheapo case with a download link, the exact same download link you get if you purchase a digital copy. But it’s still kinda sad.

0_0

Digital retail is still retail. Digital retailers are retailers. This may be why both “digital download” and “retail locations” are both under the “Retail” heading.

“but I did specifically say US retailers, not digital retailers, of which there are only four”

is right up there with something like

“100% of retailers named Newegg have stopped selling HoT”

Technically true ftw I guess.

You can search list of Anet authorize retail in you country to see if there is sale. Probably not but you can look.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/

Any place not on authorize retail list you might get scam and risk account suspend if buy a bad key.

Just checked for kicks and giggles, not only is it not on sale at any of the US retailers, but half of them have already stopped carrying it.

Two of the four places listed as selling boxed copies of the game don’t have it on their websites, but that’s not half of all the retailers, just the ones carrying boxed copies.

All of the digital download links point to sites that carry the game, except newegg. Couldn’t get gametap to load so not sure about that one.

And to answer the OP’s question:

HoT is $39.99 (20% off) at http://www.dlgamer.us/download-guild_wars_2_heart_of_thorns-pc_games-p-29808.html

Which is a legitimate seller listed as a retailer.

I’ve noticed this in Silverwastes as well as after Octovine event, where someone puts a merchant inside every Grand Chest. It’s more of an issue in the Silverwastes since the click box for that chest is smaller- the Grand Chests are pretty easy to click properly even with a troll merchant present, it’s the pressing “F” that gets caught.

Most annoying thing about GW2 for me.

This has happened to me recently, but only in specific circumstances. During, say, rich node harvesting where I’m skipping tons of mobs to get to a node→ then at the node get in a fight→ finish the fight but be stuck in combat unable to switch out my mining pick that conveniently ran out of charges.

It is annoying but I dunno about “gamebreaking.”

5k AP requirement for level 32 fractal

sarasvatri.6871

Yes hello David, I happen to be in said daily party that does this for low level fractals, and chances are you’re referencing us (myself and two friends) by your post.

The vast majority of posters in this thread are right. It’s an easy, albeit occasionally inaccurate way to judge player experience level at a glance and attempt to guarantee that the run will go as quickly and as smoothly as possible.

Does it always work? No. Sometimes we end up being slow anyway, due to people leaving or having the requirement and still being inexperienced. But it can have a large effect on the kind of player that does end up joining our party, and I find we’re generally faster.

Bottom line is: We are not obligated to babysit you, hold your hand, or tell you that it’s going to be okay and that your 2.3k achievement points won’t be an issue. We -could- require you to send us a picture of yourself with a shoe on your head before you joined our party and we could still kick you for not doing it. We’re going to play how we want to play.

It doesn’t bug me. Your money , your game. I was more mystified by the actual 5K metric. If the point is to save time, I can see where that might actually backfire.

But as I said, it is totally your choice and I am okay with it. It just has a middle school vibe, but I tend to be a patient sort and actually don’t mind helping people be better. But if you have limited time and don’t want to risk it, I understand.

If I had fully read the description I would not have joined. And that is totally my fault. So if it happened to be your group, I apologize for wasting your time. I was simply sort of taken aback.

You’re astoundingly polite and accommodating.

I was reading the thread and thinking, “Yeah, kinda silly but hey people can run groups how they want, no harm no foul.”

Then I read the guy’s response and now I hope he steps on legos barefoot every day for the rest of his life.

Kudos to you for your cool head.

Good question. Hard to answer since it would depend on what my history with ANet CS was. If it was me, personally?

I’d laugh, submit a ticket, and get to the bottom of it- since it would be a total mystery.

If I were a hypothetical someone else, someone with a history of interactions with ANet CS, I might come to the forums and tell half or one-third of the story, ignore direct questions about whether I submitted a ticket or not, and attack people who pointed out any inconsistencies.

If you want to spend your crests, buy bags of sandy gear. You get a green item and a hunk of sand piles in each one; from that you can get coarse sand much cheaper than on the TP, plus have greens to salvage, and you will want that coarse sand. At current pre-scribe-adjustment settings, it takes 1000 coarse sand to unlock the basic decorations merchant, which is at least 10K sand piles.

This. If you need more shovels for guild hall, use the proceeds you get from bags to buy them from people.

Culling is a system that limits the range that you can see other players. It was a special problem in WvW as it meant enemy zergs could suddenly appear near you.

Silverwastes VW run. Harvesting run with NPR on in background. Craft ascended mats and sell towards buying precursor. Troll map chat if the mood strikes. Mail pretty skins to new guildies. Do one of the jungle metas. Work on mastery points. Pick a champ to solo. Fractal dailies. Maybe a JP I haven’t done yet. Preview expensive stuff in wardrobe. Work on a collection. Do a couple world bosses. Manage inventory. Be terrible in sPvP. Try a new build.

If I get bored with the game I’ll stop playing and it won’t be anyone’s fault, just a natural progression. Nothing but fun memories and time I probably should have been spending more productively. My only regrets are reading the forums when I could have been playing.

When browsing the GW2 reddit just now I noticed a thread about a tribute concert organized in game for David Bowie. “Wow, that’s actually kinda cool,” I thought. I’ve never really cared much about the musical instruments in the game but it seemed like a nice idea, the sort of thing that used to happen in MMOs such as WoW and DAOC.

Then I read the final paragraph:

“If you’d like to make a donation, please send anything you can spare to (name removed) I do hate to ask for money but getting the gifts and instruments has been expensive and we all have full time jobs and little time to farm gold. Thanks everyone for your time! "

I’ve seen a lot of toxicity and general unpleasantness in the game over the last 3 years, but this is pretty low. Using the death of a much-loved celebrity to beg for gold?

Anyway, I just thought I should warn anyone who was planning on attending this “tribute concert” which is supposed to take place today. I haven’t linked the thread in question as it contains the player’s name, but I’m sure you could find it if you’re interested.

Sometimes it feels like every time the community surprises me with a pleasant gesture, it turns out to be some scam/trolling scheme.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this other than you jumping to the conclusion that it’s a scam.

I felt similarly at first.

You need to learn the zones, your build, and be properly equipped. After that HoT isn’t much harder than core Tyria. There is a difference, but it’s much less pronounced than your initial unfamiliarity might indicate.

You will be running events in the HoT maps. This means working with people. You might benefit from familiarizing yourself with taxiing into organized maps- this makes a world of difference vs. wandering around a mostly empty map.

I found it to be a lot more fun than I initially thought it would be- and became a better player in general.

Hey everyone,
so I bought the standart GW2 a long time ago (2-3 years maybe) and since I was looking for a online game I decided to take a look at gw2 again, and looks like that after the expansion it got free.
My question is: There’s no difference from who bought the game some time ago and who’s playing it for free? Also, seems that there isn’t even a discount for the expansion to who already owned the standart game, am I right?
I searched on google but the aswers I found were incomplete, so sorry if this question already appear here lots of times
Thanks in advance

It seems like your questions were answered upthread. I wanted to chime in with a warning about the forums. There is a loud contingent of posters here who take any and every opportunity to trash the game. Some of them have been at it for months, some even for years.

The forums can be a great resource for quick, factual information- like what you asked here. The forums are a terrible place to try and get an idea about how the game is actually doing in any real sense, due to all the hyperbolic noise.

Welcome back, hope you enjoy yourself, play a bunch and form your own opinions.

You have to admit though, ANet never address the things that upset players. (cough 10,000).

But see, that’s just not true. I see a lot of people asking for better communication from ANet, absolutely. In my opinion, they could do a much better PR job. But “never addresses the things that upset players” is just demonstrably, categorically, not a matter of opinion, false. This is hyperbole.

And this just fuels more discontent and a desire to post more outrageous and negative comments in an attempt to get anything acknowledged, or at very least to prevent them putting more bad design in (grind).

There is no real justification for posting outrageous negative comments. There are reasons that people do it- but it isn’t justified. There’s a difference. There’s a reason my five year old cousin throws a tantrum when I take away his candy. And maybe I’m even wrong for taking it away! Maybe ANet has done things are are totally wrong, demonstrably, not a matter of opinion, utterly, wrong. But see, this isn’t the point. The outrageous negativity is so far out of proportion to the transgression. This is the issue!

It’s like if someone were to, say, not hold a door open for me when my hands were full. That’s inconvenient, and I’d be a bit miffed. Maybe, if I knew them, I’d say “Hey, don’t be a kitten, hold that door for me brah!” And even if, then, they were all like “I’m not holding kitten for you noob lol,” I’d just kind of shrug and be like “Whatever?” and go about my day.

It would be an unreasonable over reaction for me to slash their tires, kill their entire family, or develop a method for traversing alternate realities in order to eliminate their existence from the entire metaverse in a cyclone of bloody violence EVEN IF THEY WERE IN THE WRONG. That’s over the top, hyberbolic, completely destructive, harmful behavior. It doesn’t matter that the person should have held the door for me. I’m still being a jerk by murdering them. This is an example of my reaction being completely disproportionate to the transgression.

Please forgive my use of analogy. Too much coffee.

But are forum posts, essentially just talk (even if hyperbolic), disproportionate to the transgressions? That is a matter of opinion.

I think there’s a pretty clear line where “just talk” becomes disproportionate to the transgressions, yeah, and that it’s only a matter of opinion in the philosophical rabbit hole sense.

Your analogy is pretty far removed from what happens here.

Man, I pre-apologized for that, gimme a break. Principle stands though I think.

There is a small group of posters who have been consistently trashing the game on these forums for a long time. They’re very loud. They’re very consistent. They have an agenda. There is a bit of a bandwagon effect: people who are mildly discontent(in reasonable ways) with one aspect or another will tend to chime in on these hyperbolic threads and they snowball. The same thing is happening on a larger scale with the forums as a whole.

When you notice someone posting over-the-top negativity, take a look through their post history. Most people who complain are not one of these, of course, but you’ll start seeing them and recognizing their names.

Just in this thread, for instance:

Been in mmorgp games for 15 years and this is far worst expansion ever created in whole mmo history.

this expansion is not worth 45€ atm (feel bad for those that spent 100€)…. Very unhappy customer.

You know this what you offer is a death sentence in this already pretty dead game?

You already lost million+ players in 1 month… just sayin…

- If you want to do story = grind
- If you want heropoints you need 20 ppl to kill champion

I want

More elite specializations

More weapon/armor skins WITHOUT SKIRTS OR TRENCHCOATS. You need to totally inundate us with skins. Pump them out like crazy. Make sure there’s a good mix of stuff available through regular gameplay and gem store, but drop a load of them on us.

More Legendaries, especially Longbow/Shortbow/Pistol which have rather narrow appeal.

Make all ascended trinket stat sets have the same availability (I should be able to buy Assassins from laurel vendor, for example), do a pass through of stat set availability in general: sets that aren’t necessarily superior shouldn’t be harder to get (see berserkers vs. sinister)

Allow dye-able weapons

Can’t Stop Laughing! :’D

Lately? Lately?!?!?!

They released HoT, completely broke WvW, made everyone angry and went dead silent. Not a single word. Of course they posted in every other forum – including pointless troll threads – arranged sPvP tournaments and released tons of patches. It was only some weeks ago that they finally said something about WvW, a vague promise that sometime in the future they might do stuff. WvW is still broken btw, theres more bugs than ever that essentially brings the game back to beta stage. They admit none of these bugs. Well except the walls thats been fixed multiple times (they are still bugged).

So Anet being “quiet” here on the general forum is just lol.

There is a couple of people complaining, the rest of us, the majority of the community, really enjoy HoT and Everything it came with… Those of you who don’t like it, is a very small minority of way too loud trolls…

You have no basis in fact to assert that you are in the majority. I don’t presume to be because I have no data to back it up.

I don’t think it’s totally pants-on-head crazy to assert that the majority of GW2 players enjoy playing GW2.

GW2 Community Anger

I’ve been around the sun a few dozen times. I can give some insight as to why it is this happens. AKA, the harsh and terrible truth as to why devs won’t talk to you. Not a direct “you”, but the “you” in the general sense, so don’t take it personally.

#1: You blow things out of proportion. A change doesn’t actually have to be big before people will moan endlessly about it. This is the internet, and people are always making a big drama about something, and just because you’ve gone on to the forums and found a dozen people who agree with you doesn’t mean it is an issue even worth mentioning. You’ll get over it, and if you don’t get over it, bye. We don’t want you here.

#2: You can’t be placated. If you’ve ever tried to reason with a tantruming child, you’d find it is impossible. And of course, being an online videogame, the majority of complaints come from just that. The playerbase is young, full of hormones, and also full of life’s little frustrations over how unpopular in school they all are. You aren’t looking for a solution, you just want to be angered by something. The reason why the devs won’t subject themselves to your every beck and call is because it would only fan the flames. Calm down, kid!

#3: Your complaints are irrational. Yes, just because you’re mad about something doesn’t mean that it makes sense, or is practical in any sense. The fact is that the devs can’t make the sky blue and not blue at the same time. and yet people will be angry at others for not doing their crazy bidding Whether you’re factually wrong, the solution you propose is worse than the problem, or you’re upset over something that can’t be understood by the rational mind, what you want isn’t correct.. There’s nothing to gain from talking to someone who is insane, because sanity is a per-requisite of meaningful communication.

#4: Your complaints are illegitimate. There’s a lot of vitriol leveled at the devs not because what they’ve done is necessary bad, but because something is bad for you. Even if other players want things differently, you are there with your own uncompromising desires, dead set on trying to make the world yours instead of better. Sometimes you have an ulterior motive, sometimes you’re just trolling, other times you just don’t care what other people think. Either way, your “feedback” is flailing wildly in a crowded room: it goes nowhere and just makes people more upset.

#5: Your complaints are a minority. Angered players speak out, content players don’t. While it seems like everyone agrees with you, in fact it is an echo chamber where the same 10 people just yell at their own shadows for days on end. Ultimately, to change any complaint you have it takes resources, and if there are a handful of cantankerous players irate over something, it doesn’t mean it is worth dealing with. The quality of updates and changes is subjective, so if you find yourself constantly out-voted on the matter, accept the horrible fate that your life will be filled with nothing going your way.

#6: The devs already speak with you, but you aren’t satisfied with the exact manner or how much. It is a goalpost that can be constantly moved, so to the belligerent mind can never be sated. Yes, the emotional black holes out there are all aflutter when something isn’t said fast enough, or where they want it to be said, or whether enough is said or not. No matter how much of a dialogue is trying to be casually opened, the fact is that you will always be looking to punch a gift horse in the mouth..

In short: You aren’t worth talking to. Now, I’m going to add this on to the end:

#7: The devs are people, too. Fact is, the devs don’t know what the hell they’re doing. Most people don’t. Most things in life are gambles. They’re going to make mistakes, and they’ll feel bad about their mistakes, or they won’t realize that something is a mistake. Thing is, you’re the worst person to tell them their mistakes. For the 6 reasons above, but also because you’ve assigned a air of mysticism around their work, and thus see anything that doesn’t suit you as the actions of a defiant spirit of some kind. The whole “fester with rage in their public spaces for weeks on end” is not a good look. It is not always going to be immediate that a problem even exists.

Wow I love you and want to have your little spider babies. May I steal this for reposting in other venues?

I’d love it just for the spice it would add to map chat.

Nothing stops YOU from divulging in map chat how much you spent in the gem store.

I’m poor

Also I know that even if I had the cash- buying things outright with money would trivialize them. While it would be satisfying in the short term to just have what I want instantly, I suspect it would more or less ruin the game for me.

Desire is funny like that. Often we think we want the objects of our desires when what we really want is the act of desiring itself.

I don’t think GW2 is perfect. I don’t think ArenaNet is perfect. There are numerous issues I’d like to see addressed.

That said, OP:

You obviously have strong opinions about the game. These strong opinions were present before any of the information you presented was available. Have you even paused to consider how those prior convictions might influence your interpretations? If you can’t step back and honestly analyze that interaction then you are categorically incapable of providing a valid critique.

You don’t know. You don’t have inside information. Your interpretation of the available information is just that, interpretation. Your strident insistence that your interpretation is the only correct one, your summary dismissal of legitimate criticisms of your position, and your overall tone completely turn me off from seriously considering your points.

How would you react?

No. I mean that the field is centered on them. Activates. Does no damage. Does not stun. Does not aggro. This holds true for all enemies, even neutral creatures like deer and etc.

edit: though now seems to be working… better. Very weird, sporadic behavior. Earlier enemies were running through it without any effect, now not so much. It’s possible I’m losing my mind.
