It is only a grind if you make it a grind. I am not grinding the JP for presents to get things. I’m doing the JP because I love the JP and am good at it. The fact that it also hands out the best rate of presents it secondary. If it only dropped two presents a run I would still do it to the exclusion of all else because I enjoy it. The point where I grind is when I open those presents to get the alcohol to work toward the absurd goal of 10k. A goal I’m pretty sure I can’t meet by the end of the event in order to get a skin I’ll never use because it takes up the shoulder spot.

I’m also not grinding for mithril. I’m playing the game the way I normally do and gradually accruing mithril by salvaging junk, since I get a lot of junk in HoT. Once I’ve gotten enough mithril, something to the effect of 2500 ore, I’ll move forward in my efforts to craft Inferno through the new system.

If you don’t want to grind, don’t grind. If you want the skin more than you want to not grind, then maybe grinding isn’t a problem. It is entirely up to you. But no one, not a single person, not a dev and not a player, is making you grind.

Oh my. Are you real? I didn’t think such sensible thoughts were permitted any longer.

Is there any way to get ascended trinkets with Assassin’s stats besides the associated dungeon collections? (along with the other stat selections for each dungeon collection trinket)

If not. Is this really necessary? Are these trinkets so powerful that they deserve to be that difficult/time consuming to attain? DeLana’s Coinpurse, for instance, requires the Caudecus’s Manor Collector achievement..which requires a player to collect ALL the dungeon’s weapons and armor. Ditto for Zhaitan’s Claw for Arah.

I could see myself running Caudecus once or twice a week and working on the PvP track and maybe unlocking this in the next six months, given my play time and (un)willingness to do things I don’t really want to. But the Arah one just isn’t gonna happen.

Seems a bit excessive? Or am I missing something and the stat selections available here are really special and powerful, not just assassin’s but the others… some of which seem to be available from laurel merchant…

Something like what you describe has been happening to me for a couple months now.

I’m in combat and without any obvious cause I’m suddenly unable to move. My character can change the direction they’re facing, I can still fire off skills, but I can’t move.

Using a movement power or dodge usually gets me out of this.

Since it’s been so random and I have no idea how to accurately reproduce it I haven’t been that keen on reporting it as a bug.

There’s an artificial gate (RNG) on Precursors previously, and that kept the item rare.

There is a non RNG way of getting Precursors before crafting and it is called the TP and it quite accessible with just a click away.

While I agree to most of your points but it varies from players to players. In short, it means that player defines their own goal but the game sets up the rules in guiding the players to set up their own goal but all in all, it is almost always directed to farming gold.

Where do the precursors on the TP originate?

Completely misses the point but since you asked:

1) Random drop

2) Mystic forge (deliberate or unintentional)
3) Precursor crafting (as of HoT release)

3 would not end up on the TP, as they’re account bound. I don’t think it misses the point at all, my point is that any Pre you buy on the TP originated through RNG. While a buyer doesn’t have to directly deal with RNG to get a Pre on the TP, the price is regulated and dependent on RNG. Buying on the TP doesn’t circumvent RNG, it’s just a step removed.

still misses what OP is addressing. #3 is not account bound. They can be sold.

Yep, I’m wrong about number 3.

Also, I more or less completely agree with the OP. My point was tangential to it. But since you seem to be more interested in forum warrioring than having a discussion, good night sir.

Why so much negativity in the forums ?,

sarasvatri.6871

Pick any MMO and their forums will be similar. It’s the nature of forums.

Last weeks way to many

Nah, I’ve been on these forums from practically day 1. I see nothing out of the ordinary. I’d say the worst of it was when Dragonhunter name was announced, and then maybe the first two days of the expansion. But all of that is in line with every other major LS update, or holiday update, or balance change, or really anything that changes in the GW2.

I still love the people on Day 2 of HoT who “quit” because of lack of content. Like seriously, these maps are so ridiculously huge, the story is big and involved, events are everywhere. Don’t even get me started on the map metas and how awesomely difficult they can be.

Some people just don’t like change.

There are a group of regular anti-GW2ers on the forum. They’ve “quit” the game, but spend their free time frequenting the forums to reiterate the same complaints they’ve had over and over. If they see someone new with a similar complaint, that’s like cat nip, they all swarm to add to it. You’ll start recognizing these people. They are also the first ones to call people schills or fanbois or white knights for disagreeing with them.

Very much this. I play a little game sometimes when I should be working but choose to procrastinate instead, you can play it too. When you notice a post that’s really hyperbolic and negative, or you notice a poster making a lot of negative posts, check their history. There’s some real gems that have been doing this for months or in some cases even YEARS- page after page of posts trashing the game over and over again.

Most amusing when you find people making claims a year ago that “this game won’t last six months/1 year/whatever,” “ANet will never release an expansion,” or “I uninstalled, never playing again” from last year, still posting strong today.

Eventually you start to recognize names and it’s like when that crazy uncle visits for Thanksgiving, kind of uncomfortable but amusing.

“will said crash be good for the game?”

There’s a lot of rhetorical charge in that statement, lol.

The economy will be fine. We’ll see some definite change in the economy, but hardly anything to be called a crash.

Well lots of ppl with high ticket items on the tp will loose thousands of gold, in my case I will have 3k gold stuck in the tradepost forever or loose hundreds if gold by relisting. Thats somewhat a crash, since it affects a large portion of players.

In other words, because you have one or more high priced items listed, this shift in the economy that might hurt you means the economy is going to crash. Remember, making an sweeping conclusion based on your particular case is not always justified.

Your wrong. As I said, it affect anyone with items on the tp in different scales.

We’ll see. I have trouble believing that your conclusion that some high priced skins having to go down some in price will crash the economy though. Your pocket book getting hurt isn’t my pocketbook getting hurt isn’t the economy crashing.

Ok pal.

Well, if it crashes, maybe they’ll get a full time economist to work for them to study the economy and model the changes before they make them.

Ping spikes and disconnects

Posted by: sarasvatri.6871

sarasvatri.6871

If you notice, that is from Level 3. Anet does not have any control over that spot, nor can Anet fix the issue. You need to contact your ISP and inform them so they can let that company know. Anet can’t help you. It’s nothing on their end, nor do they control which hops you take to get to their servers.

I’m aware of that. What I’m more curious about is why I’m being routed through Germany, and if that’s just normal practice or what. It seems strange to a layman.

I’m pretty much unable to play this afternoon due to constant DCs. Yesterday I was experiencing ping spikes but they calmed down- today I’m not noticing any spikes according to in game menu but experiencing the symptoms of high ping: bags not opening, other people frozen in place, etc, all while ping tells me it’s 80-120ms.

Going to leave it be for a bit before I submit a ticket, but in running GW2 diagnostic tool I noticed some oddities, wanted to see if I could get some feedback.

It looks like my packets are being routed through Germany. Frankfurt, to be precise.

ae-3-80.edge6.Frankfurt1.Level3.net [4.69.154.138]

This is where the majority of packet loss is happening. The hop before that is California, and I’m in New England, playing on US servers. I did check that IP and it is being reported as being physically located in Germany.

What gives? Is there something about the way that IPs work that I don’t understand, and I’m not REALLY going through Germany, it just LOOKS that way? Because if the hops in my trace are correct, I’m leaving NE, heading out to Cali, jumping around the world to Germany, then back to Texas to the GW2 servers.

It is ridiculous beyond belief than some one can suggest that having 2 utilities on constant CD is actually a viable alternative.

Those two utilities, untraited, on CD give a ~22% speed increase over time. It’s less than 25%, sure, but not ridiculously beyond belief less.

Traited it’s an ~83% swiftness uptime for a ~27% movement increase over time, a little bit better than the utilities that give the flat bonus.

Should Waypoints really have a fee?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sarasvatri.6871

sarasvatri.6871

Should Waypoints really have a fee?
yes. cause one of the last remaining gold sinks in game

Um, the 15% TP fee is the most significant gold sink in just about any MMO. Waypoint costs are likely dwarfed by that.

Waypoints probably still have a fee for two reasons:

  • Minor penalty for dying, in addition to having to run back.
  • To ‘gate’ new players from teleporting everywhere instead of running, which would mean missing a lot of what GW2 offers.
  • To discourage veterans from waypointing for everything.

I don’t know if the current fees do a good job of any of the above. I do know I would use them much more often if they were free, even though I can afford bypassing them.

People have suggested an alternative: make it free to teleport into any city, since that already can be done for free (not counting suffering additional loading screens). Go to the mists (wvw, pvp lobby, or eotm) -> use the asura gate to get to LA -> use the hub gate to get to any other city. This, too, probably won’t happen, for the same reasons.

Um just read!

ONE (!) of the last remaining gold sinks in game . since anet make repair for free. also very kitten action. from anet….

not THE one!

I guess, in the sense that.. If you have 100 things and you take 5 of them away you can say that the last 95 remain.

Honestly I think this situation is a perfect scenario for the vote kick system.

That’s exactly what would happen if someone joined a speedrun or zerker only group and didn’t conform to the group’s requirements and I see no reason it should be any different the other way around. One person racing ahead of the group, skipping enemies and leaving the rest of you to 4-man it or aggroing a boss while everyone else is still in the cutscene is just a disruptive as one person not skipping and forcing everyone else to wait or not participating in the fight because they’re still in the cut scene.

Whatever your chosen tactics are it’s still group content and that means the group needs to be on the same page and working together. The vote kicking system is there for those situations when that doesn’t happen.

So… If you were advertising a zerk speedrun and four people joined seemingly onboard with the idea, go through the first boss… Then decided to start doing a kill all no skip casual style… And you objected, pointing out that’s not what the group was supposed to do… Then they vote kick you… You would be cool with that?

You do get the option of unlock skin (which is grayed out) when you right click on the option.

I have so few weapons in my wardrobe as it is, about 9 in total and I have checked every name. I have the greatsword now, but I do not have the sword (level 30 reward from story) in wardrobe.

Priory weapons are so awesome looking.

There is only one skin for each weapon(for each order). There’s only one Priory greatsword model. So unless you picked a different weapon for your level 30 reward, you shouldn’t be expecting any other skins to appear.
