pets are such a hassle now tho.. i find myself just keeping them by my side just to use the F2 skill.
^This.
Also, I didn’t even bother to try and keep them alive anymore when i went to the new dungeon.
I just decided to try spirits after this new patch. They seem OK, especially sun spirit when traited and giving 70% chance to burn. I feel that their 60 seconds duration is a bit awkward, enough for 1 and a half fight and then i have to re-summon them in the middle of a fight, but maybe i just have to get used to it.
Faux: spirit health being a minor trait is not such a good idea i think, because even if people use nature magic trait line, they might not use it for spirits so as a minor, it doesn’t give any benefit to them.
I like this because SQUIRRELS! How cute would that be
Staff for ranger is not a bad idea, it would even kinda fit – i mean, it IS a piece of wood (mostly) with magical powers… traits for it could be in the Nature Magic trait line.
favo: as far as i know, the problem with pet damage was that a bunker ranger still did pretty good damage because of the pets (40-60% of your damage comes from the pet alone), while other classes’ bunker builds didn’t have as much damage.
It wouldn’t be so bad if at the same time the ranger’s own damage at least was increased or something… then again, what good would pets be then? (What good are they now? in dungeons e.g.) If the ranger itself did most of the damage, the pets would just become a bigger version of collectable minis that you can’t even put away.

I’m sorry – is it just me or does anyone else think that talking about current builds in depth is kinda “late” (didn’t wanna say “useless”) considering that in 4 days some major changes are going to be made in every class’ trait lines?
Just asking, no offense or anything…
I don’t know if this has been written yet, but the master minor trait in Wilderness Survival, Companion’s Defense doesn’t seem to be working right. The ranger and the pet are both supposed to get 2 secs of protection on dodge roll but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. There is no cooldown on this skill, and i tried it out of combat and in combat too, sometimes i get the protection, sometimes i don’t – i have no idea now what it depends on so i’m assuming it’s bugged. Anyone else have this problem…?
Dear Atomet, i think you should try out the ranger for yourself. I made one about 2 weeks ago, and i really, really enjoyed it (mostly PvE, but it was my first character that i tried PvP – both spvp and wvw), and just out of curiosity i came to the forums to read what other people think of this class. So many people are complaining about the ranger – the traits, the pets, the utilities and everything, and they say it gets much worse after lvl 55. So i got kinda sad, went back to the game and asked my guild how’s ranger at endgame. One ranger said that out of his 4 lvl80 characters, ranger is his favourite and he’s having a blast with it. Somehow this cheered me up, so i just continued playing my ranger.
I’m not saying that everyone who’s being negative about the class is wrong, but so far, i don’t really feel all those setbacks they are talking about. I’m just playing and i’m just enjoying it as it is. And if you go to other professions’ topics you will see a lot of the same negativity and complaining about how bad given class is in this and that… i think there’s no other way than to go and see it for yourself. Whatever people say, i couldn’t ever drop my ranger because i love it now.
I actually only make human females because of their broad hips. Most armors look good on them.
The huge, balloon-like breasts are a bit annoying on that body type though. If that’s your only reason and you want something with a little less bust, you might take a look at the female Sylvari. Those hips don’t lie.
Nice tip, i actually do have a female sylvari necro as my only lvl 80 character and I love her body type too
But that human female hip is… just gorgeous (i’m a girl but i kinda fell in love with those hips – and sylvari butts too, lol
)

… i have found thakittens the exact same walking animation…
i typed its…….so why did it type kitten………..
arena net you have to go over your swear words a couple more times
I guess it was meant to be “thakittens” but you’ve forgotten the space so it became “thati*_ts” (without the signs)
Yeah, i thought that theory might not be correct because of that, but hey, what if that other sylvari's tree was also planted on a human grave? We still don’t know for sure
If i remember correctly, there was a(n asuran?) theory that the Pale Tree was planted on the grave of a human, and that is why it makes all sylvari human-shaped. Maybe the human was buried with his dog, and that’s where the Pale Tree got the idea from for the sylvan hounds.
I’m also interested in other sylvari armor, but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any other types (yet). Different leafy armor can be seen on npcs (especially in the Grove) but they aren’t in the game as armor
I hope they will add new leafy armor models in the future…
(sorry for my bad english)
This is my sylvari necromancer, Ciara Eldersoul. I bought the full tier 2 cultural armor for her, but later on wanted to try the tier 1 cultural coat mixed in – it worked out better than i expected. Atm i’m even satisfied with the colour combination. I kept changing it all the time for days, i always felt i just couldn’t find the right colours :P
As a (kind of) minion master necro, what i’m most angry about atm considering minions, is not that they are a bit stupid, but that this was in the april 30 patch note: “Summoned creatures and pets can no longer draw aggro from enemies that have not already aggroed on their master” and it doesn’t seem to be working at all. Or did i misunderstand something? This is supposed to mean that if i run past something that doesn’t agro on me, but my minion runs closer to it, the minion still shouldn’t draw aggro, cause i’m farther and haven’t drawn aggro… right?
Apart from this, the only annoying thing is when i’m using staff and auto-attack from a distance, only half of the minions will run to the target, the other half will just stand right next to me and watch the others or i dunno.
Mine wasn’t rated…
oh well, not that it matters so much… xP
Since I saw how much time and effort you took in your name, I decided to rate yours: 10/10, it’s absolutely brilliant! I love the backstory of the name which refers both to your profession and race. And as a side note: Making a necromancer white probably looks even more kitten than black. If only your armor was as dark as a forgotten soul
For the next poster: see two posts up for the last name, my name
since I’m curious about what you think.
Thank you very much! ^^
I’m changing the armor colours really frequently to find something that matches perfectly… so far some pale blue-ish colors seem to fit well but i’ll try some dark ones
Mine wasn’t rated…

Silthir sounds really nice and it’s even kinda celtic-sounding
i’d rate it 9/10
I also have a sylvari necro, her name is Ciara Eldersoul.
Ciara is the female form of “CiarĂ¡n” which is a gaelic male name, meaning “little dark one” or “blacky” according to wikipedia :P I thought it fits a necromancer, though her skin and hair color is almost white actually, but necromancy is still a “dark” profession.
The Eldersoul part of the name… i saw those giant tree spirits called “veteran pinesoul” or “oakheart” and thought it sounded cool. There are several beliefs and superstitions about the elder tree and witchcraft, and it’s also a poisonous plant basically (the leaves, twigs and uncooked berries) so i thought it also fit well with necromancy+sylvari
I noticed a few days ago that Flesh Golem actually DOES regenerate hp while out of combat. I still don’t see why the other minions don’t, then. It doesn’t really make sense.
My only Order of Whispers character is a Sylvari female so I kind of like to imagine he had eyes for her
minor spoiler
That’s not hard to imagine, since he seemed to like Demi Beetlestone’s “apples” too when he was transformed into her
They might be carnivorous, but for a charr, Tybalt sure likes apples. :P
I just recently started a new necro, aiming for some minion master build and i found these “ambient creatures” quite useful myself for the reason mentioned above. But i’m also a bit disappointed that they don’t have a regeneration while out of battle like ranger pets. (because they do, right? i hope i remember correctly) I just don’t really see a reason why out-of-battle hp regeneration hasn’t been added to minions too. Has anyone got any idea…?
I just saw this thread and lol’d, because last night i was roaming the charr 1-15 territory, and got in conflict with 4 ogres and a veteran ogre. I managed to kill the 4 ogres but then i died, and the only monster in my reach was the veteran (with full HP cuz i haven’t even touched it yet) so i though “hell, why not” and went for it in downed state. I threw out the clone 3 or 4 times, the rogue 2 (or 3?) times, other than that i hit it with the basic downed attack and when it was focusng on the clone or the rogue, i healed with number 4. And i laughed so hard when i managed to kill that VETERAN from downed state, but it felt so ridiculous… i never would’ve been able to do the same with any of my other characters…. so yeah, i guess it does feel kinda OP.
Edit: well, at least in PvE

Mesmer playstyle is much more action packed, but necro with a staff+well AoE build can be very comfortable. My lvl 80 necro with such a build can sit in one place and take on multiple enemies (pve) while throwing marks under their feet and popping up wells. It can be very tanky. If you’d rather play to relax, i’d say go necro. If you want a bit more action and difficulty, go mesmer
I was the one who asked what nexon had to do with the game and thank you for the answer, i didn’t know that
Geotherma asked “15% is majority?” after you explained nexon. So i didn’t really understand either when he told you later that this post has nothing to do with nexon – which is true, but he also asked about it so…
i’m a bit confused now. And i also don’t know why i’m explaining all this when it can all be read back
Yeah, sorry, my bad… i actually only looked back a few pages to see if a topic was made about this recently or not :/ Should’ve used the search and written “bump” or something in the right topic i guess.
Not a bad idea. Though in most games, mentioned part would be considered a tutorial, but in gw2 it’s the beginning of your personal story. Considering how you can’t skip personal story quests, it’s not surprising that you can’t skip this “tutorial” either. It would be better though if it could be different depending on some answers you choose when creating the character…
I agree, new hair styles and other options would be more than welcome. I think only one race has a decent amount of options: the charr. All those different fur options are so nice! However, each time i wanted to make a human or a norn character, i always found myself choosing the same hair, and choosing between the same 1 or 2 faces… the rest is not all that good.
Aura: “Since Nexon loves its money; why not add more of individual things.”
Nexon? o.O What does Nexon have to do with this game?
Hey,
I don’t know if this has been brought up yet or not, but what i’d love to see in this game, besides the current well-known forms of pvp, is a 1v1 duel system. Some people said open world pvp would be great, but i disagree – however, a system that allows players to challenge each other to a friendly duel anywhere in the world would be awesome. When i’m standing at the bank or in front of the trading post i often get the urge to check out the cool looking character next to me in pvp, and it’s a bit of a letdown that i can’t. Ofc i could arrange a 1v1 with him in WvW or sPvP or whatever, but that’s so circumstantial.
So, a system that allows us to challenge people to duels would be something i’d love to see
But if your opinion differs, please don’t be too harsh…
And sorry for my english, i’m no native speaker.
I agree with Kamata and Snow White above; mesmer is a very versatile, quite balanced and really fun class to play. So far I have tried all the classes in the game, except for the mesmer, which i decided to try a week ago.
My first lvl 80 was a necro, then i kinda tried every other class too (warrior last – and i hated it) but mesmer is really unique. My mesmer’s lvl 32 now and it gets more interesting. Haven’t tried pvp with it yet (i wanna hit 80 first), but i’m already excited for what it is capable of against other players. >:)
Is that a thief or a prostitute?
:D
Why thank you for the awfully kind comment.
I don’t think it looks THAT sl*utty. :P
A “dominatrix” comes to my mind rather than a prostitute though… :P
I don’t know very much about charr lore, but i was a bit surprised too when i did that part of the story. However, i think it kinda makes sense that if a charr’s father is an honorless gladium, the charr would change his own name, or as a cub not be named after his father at all.
But if you do want to change your name, i think an item can be bought for gem that lets you change it.:)
I completely agree with most comments here. When i first did the personal story line, i wanted to like Trahearne. I was like “oh, so you’re going to be the leader of the army that rises against the main boss? okay, let’s do this, twiggy!” and i was very keen.
And after every step of the personal story line, i got more and more disappointed. I first felt it when the Pale Tree gave a vision about Orr and i saw Trahearne was supposed to be the leader. It’s my story line, i’m the main character, why is he the leader? Okay, whatever, let’s move on… heeey, why does he get a cool shiny sword? Okay, whatever, i don’t use a greatsword anyways… Why does he take credit for kinda everything that i do? Okay, whatever, i can’t change it anyway, seems i’ll just have to go with it……
And ever since then, with my newer characters, i feel that i need to force myself to do the 50+ personal story quests. And i usually get angry enough to let that stupid Trahearne die off first, and only then engage in fights, and at least have a laugh about how useless he is while still taking all the credit…
Im not bothered with it. The only FemVoice I cant seem to bear is the Norn one but that’s just me
That is actually the reason i don’t play with my female norn necro anymore xP Those moans are horrible…
I do like the female human voice though, it’s very nice and feminine, unlike norn’s.
This is a female norn hairstyle. Top right corner here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/6/63/Norn_female_hair_styles.png
A few female human hairstyles are similar to some of the norns’, you can check here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/4/47/Human_female_hair_styles.png
But as far as i know, this was always a norn hairstyle. (or was there some beta phase when humans had this too?)
I’m also thinking that maybe some additional hairstyles will be added later for gem, like they added some hair colors just recently.
After a looooot of looking around for some decent armor that doesn’t look like a trench coat with rubber boots…
I would have loved to go for the tier3 human cultural armor (it was the main reason i started a human actually…) but that price just seems so high :/
Had to buy a legging with my other character at the Vigil and a coat with another character at Whispers and transmute them to give to my thief, but i think it was well worth it, i am very pleased with the results.
I’d love to see some new armors, or the current ones changed because – and i’m not glad to say this at all – most armors in this game, especially medium and heavy armors look very boring and not at all cool or beautiful. We can see much cooler armor in so many other games… starting from even much lower levels, and not like, from 30 you can see a few not-so-bad-looking armors…
I still love the game ofc and i think the team behind it has done a wonderful job, but it sometimes pisses me that even when i find an armor that looks kinda good, it’s still not as good as in many other games.
I don’t think this will be changed though…
If i had a sylvari ranger, i would definitely name it Catnip Evergreen x)
Otherwise, something more serious. I have a slyvari thief called Assam Razorleaf (okay still not so serious) Truth is, i couldn’t really find a cool celtic name that i liked and felt it fit the character… :P
Here’s my norn necro, Morga Panthera:)
Took the first picture around lvl 40, second was what she looked like from lvl 60 till recently, and 3rd screenshot was taken yesterday at lvl 78 or so. I liked the winged set in white and with yellow ornaments. I feel a little sorry that exotic armor can’t be transmuted… (or at least i don’t have the kind of transmutation stone which is needed)
I sort of have the same problem too. Before i decided on my main character’s profession, i did a little research about gw2’s top dps classes. Most people wrote greatsword-wielding ranger or greatsword-wielding warrior. Like, 1 out of at least 60 comments said that elementalist does pretty good damage too.
So i made a ranger with a greatsword, and it’s pretty good, i usually kill 2-3-4 mobs at the same time and still don’t have issues with surviving (okay it’s only level 34 but so far it’s working like this) and i made an elementalist yesterday, now it’s level 15. The damage is not bad at all, though i can’t remember how my ranger did at level 15. I can’t really kill more than 1, maximum 2 mobs at a time because if i try with more, i have to dodge a lot and run around, and sometimes it just takes longer than killing them one by one. Of course, this isn’t a tank class, but what i expected was that by the time the mobs reached me i had already killed them. If i stand far enough and slowly back away as i spam my skills on the mob, it does work this way, but meh… it doesn’t really give that dps mage feeling like this class type gives in other games.
