Some people prefer asura because they have a smaller hitbox in theory. Almost every armor looks best on humans though, and sylvari have some really nice cultural armor, so if you’re going for looks, choose one of these.
But if you want to be awesome, make a charr elementalist :P
My charr elementalist. I wanted to make a charr that is as siamese cat-like as possible. Too bad the awesome headgear covers the sweet siamese face though :P So i switch it on and off regularly.
By what i understood from intrviews and such, a lot of details about revenant (like the weapons, legendaries it can channel, all traits &skills) are not event finalised yet. We know the stuff that’s already final and we can count on them to be in the expansion, but the class is still not actually finished.
It would be nice to have something like this instead of the hardly explained zombieland that we have now (and by this i mean sure, they explained that after Zhatian was defeated, his risen servants are slowly decreasing in number, but honestly, nothing actually implies that they are decreasing in number)
Furthermore, there was a topic about how the game should have a few more peaceful areas, as there are too many maps with large scale destruction and such. I totally agreed with that idea and i think a restored/restorable Orr could be a nice, relatively peaceful area where we could do a bit different things.
I think it would be cool to make pets “grow up” and be bigger, not stay juvenile like they are now – maybe they could “grow up” when we choose a specialization with our ranger (i know, we only get 1 option for that with HoT but others will come later on anyway). Eir’s wolf is quite big and it looks cool.
If they implement any new pet type, i bet it’ll be the Raptor. An asuran npc already has it (in the personal story). Raptors make sense because they are all over the place just like moas, and they even have a very similar screech attack and color schemes.
Griffons would also kinda make sense, they have so many different types too.
I usually check faces too if something on a character catches my eye, like a cool armor or hairstyle…. i even noticed that there is one particular female human face that a lot of people use on their character though imo it really looks bad… it’s that one some people think is “asian” (it doesn’t resemble asian for me at all) and it looks like it’s always frowning.
Anyway, i think many people are interested enough in character looks that they do check faces too.
My beloved charr engineer. I decided to keep the aetherblade skin on her, i like that the most, but the Inquest chest piece (not on the screenshots) is also awesome if you’re looking for good medium armor for charr.
I think if you really expect money, you should be clear about it. Like i see so many times in LFG “<whatever JP> portal 2g” – okay, these could be a bit expensive, personally i’ve “bought a portal” only once and it cost 80s, but i knew exactly what i was agreeing to and decided it was worth it since it was a difficult jp (with a goggle at the end and 10 APs) that i did not want to do by myself at that time.
Instead of writing an exact amount in LFG like that 2g or whatever, you could write “Tips welcome but not mandatory” or something so ppl know your expectation.
Since it’s virtual money that i use entirely for a game i want to just enjoy in every possible way, i’ve got myself to 0 gold and up quite a few times. I’ve never been rich (around 230 was the most gold i’ve accumulated so far – I could’ve reached 300 gold a week ago but decided to convert to gems) I usually spent gold on cultural armor pieces, gem store skins, only recently some crafting materials, and some more armor.
sigh I really miss the racial forums, i loved the sylvari forum topic where you could post your beautiful salads…
I love sylvari character options, they are gorgeous. Sadly, i have deleted most of my sylvaris (only one remains, a necro, which is my oldest character), but i did keep the best screenshots of them
Top one is my guardian, deleted at lvl 80.
The second (on the left ofc) is my thief, named after my favourite tea (Milky Oolong) – i am seriously considering redoing this character because i am in love with how she looks.
The third is Ciara Eldersoul, my necro, my oldest character, which i don’t play too much sadly.
This kind of thing happened to a lot of people a few months ago. They also crashed in specific maps and couldn’t log back in with their chars still on those maps, they got stuck. If i remember correctly, there wasn’t much players could do about this, arenanet always fixed it somehow eventually.
People have been joking about this since a long time now. Next time, in a GW2 patch: the Shatterer will gain the ability to turn his head! Now that would be frightening.
Though at huge bosses like this (that work like objects – like Teq, Behe, etc.) i guess it will always be less interactive than with a real mob (a champ for example, like Maw’s shaman) the models are more stationary , as if they weren’t really reacting to their surroundings – even if some skills and aoes are thrown on players around them (like teq – always stares in a general direction no matter where he drops skills or where players stand)
Rayti wrote it right, it is swindler chest, and as One Note Chord wrote, Whisper’s shoulder and boots. I’d say the pants are svindler too. though svindler pants have that patch at the knee, but the whisper boots are high enough to cover that up.
I’m not sure about the glove though, it’s pretty generic – but i guess you probably weren’t interested in the glove mainly anyway :P
On mesmers and rangers gs is not the best weapon of choice. If u have a mesmer or a ranger dont use gs unless u have to. normally its the weapon to swap to for ranging for mesmer. On ranger you can use it if you need to cleave and its a better swap to than LB. Otherwise these two classes should stick to swords (mesmers best set is s/f s/something without any gs in there)
Honestly gs is an all around useful weapon for the classes u mentioned to have but its not the end all be all and its def a boring weapon to use imo. If ur on warrior or guardian u kinda have to use it to get best dps, mebe hammer on guard. But if ur on mesmer or ranger just stick to sword. Or better yet go with a cool class like ele, engie, or thief! XD
Well i don’t know but i always do more raw damage with GS on my ranger than with sword. Sword might be a bit more suited to condition builds too, so it all depends on builds.
But GS usually gives a little mobility and CC and nice damage on every class, so i’d say it’s kinda versatile.
Still, i think many players choose it because they think it looks awesome.
sigh…. i don’t like making humans but…. i’ll probably make a human female revenant. The only reason for this is almost every armor looks so good on them. I tried previewing stuff on a norn female but it’s not the same.
When i saw this creature in the trailer i first had the impression of it being very tall so i immediately thought – it’s a giant, corrupted by Mordremoth.
Why will Divinity’s Reach be the supposed go-to spot for Revenants? I don’t understand. Am I missing something?
Because most ppl still tend to start human characters.
The day the expansion launches, I will be sitting back, enjoying a cup of tea and some series while everyone will be raging about server crashes and bugs, lol. Nah, i hope that won’t happen though.
But then i’ll start maybe a norn revenant to try the unnerfed version, cuz i bet it will be op at first and “bugfixed” pretty fast, lol. Nah, i’m being mean again…
I will probably dive into the jungle with that Druid and enjoy the kitten out of the expansion.
I only had like 4 hours to play on saturday and sunday, but i popped a Killstreak booster and an XP booster too and got my thief from lvl 45 to 72 by doing map completion. I guess i could’ve done better but……
Why the hassle? Only the light armor looks great. The heavy: well shiny, but there are other heavy chest armors which can replace this easily; the medium – just ugly.
For me, thee medium armor was the reason i wanted carapace armor in the first place. Firt time i saw the medium set on reddit, i immediately thought that no matter how but i must have this!
Light is also not bad, the heavy carapace armor is boring though.
I didn’t understand the fuss around these carapace coat boxes until i checked this topic. I did the vinewrath event 3 times and got 3 boxes so i honestly thought it was a guaranteed drop from the chest. Seems like i was just incredibly lucky, lol….
I might have misunderstood that cinematic, but i thought the sylvari didn’t just go crazy, they have been attacked first by those soldiers who thought they are evil…? After all, if i recall correctly, Canach was shouting something like “We are not evil”, and the only sylvari in the cinematic who undoubtedly killed someone was Faolain – who is evil anyway.
But maybe i just didn’t get it. After all, i was really tired when i did this episode. (Maybe that’s also the reason i didn’t really like the whole thing too)
I love most professions, my favourites vary depending on which one i get hooked on. Let’s just say:
- the one character i have 100% world completion on is Ranger
- the one which i aim to get a legendary for is Engineer
- the one that i’ve made most characters is Necro
- the one i always level up but always end up deleting (but can never resist leveling up again) is Thief
- the one that really made me learn how to control a character and play the game mechanics is Elementalist
On the other hand, i’ve never had a Warrior bigger than lvl 55. I find them really boring. I have a Mesmer and had fun with it for a while, but i find it a bit confusing (get it? hah… no, wasn’t funny) and i haven’t been playing with it for almost a year so i can’t get the hang of it and just don’t like it overall.
Kits and turrets are closer in design to charr technology, but the notion of engineering fits both races pretty well. Personally, I prefer charr, even though they have some stretching and tail clipping issues (but honestly – is there a game in this world that has a tailed beast race without armor clipping issues? – stretching bothers me so much more)
I kinda feel confused about this idea. The way they wrote it, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea. I haven’t ever felt the need for a log in reward though, and honestly, most of the games i played that gave a log in reward were the worst games i ever played and it just seemed desperate to give rewards for just getting online. So i guess i just didn’t expect such a thing for arenanet. I do hope they are not getting desperate though.
The worst thing about the change is dumping the race forums. I mean seriously, is the forum better now that it’s gone? I know it probably didn’t have as much traffic as some other forums, but i’m sure it was many peoples’ favourite place :P
-I am a female player and it somewhat annoys me when ppl automatically call me ‘dude’, but i don’t correct them when i know we’re not going to have a long conversation – still annoys me though.
-If i see a dead player who’s been laying around before i got there, and had been laying for more than 10 seconds since, i automatically assume he/she is afk and don’t rez him/her (what for anyway? he’ll just get killed again soon) and i get somewhat annoyed that some ppl can’t leave their character in a safe place if they have to go afk.
-i have completely given up on crafting: the highest level i’ve reached with a craft is 147 and i feel a bit bad and noob-ish because of this.
-i have deleted several lvl 80, fully geared characters.
-i have 9 character slots now and always feel bad if i don’t have at least 1 slot empty, but i always feel like i don’t have enough slots. Also, i don’t even play with most of my finished (lvl 80, geared) characters
Kinda the first thing i thought about, too. I mean not the killing a moa with a spoon part, but feeling like the game hints strongly at necro getting greatsword. My only concern is that if necros get something that big, i guess the others classes should, too, but nothing has been hinted about that.
I don’t think they’ll implement the two faces since they are essential to the identity of two of the MAJOR characters in Guild Wars 2.
Would be great thought if they would implement more faces to the character creator itself, since without the Total Makeover Kits, there really aren’t that many options
Rytlock, Eir and Zojja are just as major characters, yet their face can be chosen by default if i’m not mistaken. I don’t know about Logan though, people say his face isn’t available but a lot of male faces just look so similar in my eyes that i always thought it’s available :P
I wouldn’t really like to see a Scarlet copy running around every corner though…
I play a Sylvari Engineer. And I do recommend it.
1) The Voice Actor. Oh my god, the voice actor… I have a man-crush or something. It compliments PERFECTLY for any steam-punk style you could possibly go for.
2) The mix of plants and technology is awesome!
3) Lore-wise, Sylvari are very curious, making them natural scientists. They are also already born with their knowledge and education, meaning it is easier for them to become Engineers than other professions. The fact that when a Sylvari their knowledge goes back to the Pale Tree, makes a single Sylvari Engineer a great contribution to the entirety of Sylvari society.
4) Many important Engineer NPCs are Sylvari. The most notable is Scarlet, but also many of the Pact’s Engineers.
Just make your Sylvari have brown skin, and give him black hair. They’ll look just like a black human, and you wont be bothered by the plant stuff.
On the other hand, mixing plants and machines is baddass!
Sorry for off topic, but wow…… that character is just… wow
One of the (if not the) most good looking and bad@ss sylvari dudes i’ve seen
And erm…. on topic…. i always thought sylvari didn’t really match the engineer profession, but you guys actually gave some pretty legit explanations. I might even create one now, since i kinda always had trouble creating an engi character that i really do enjoy, and i’ve never tried sylvari.
Almost every dialogue that i love in this game comes from charr
They are a really funny and cool race. My favourite dialogue so far is the one from a female charr called Loneshot in Fields of Ruin. I posted this in another topic too: she tells a “horror story” of charrs – a reason why charrs don’t like humans. According to her, humans often kidnap charr cubs and dress them up in little costumes, and force them to play with balls of yarn. And if they behave well, they get bits of fish.
This fix has really been asked for a lot of times, and from the very start of the game, and nothing has been done about it after all this time. So i’d just say don’t get your hopes up :/
Just wondering, what kind on professions will fit the Tengu? what i mean is, for example for char it’s war/thief/engi, norn is ranger/warrior, asuras are magical, etc, so what will fit the tengu? what professions do they lean towards to lore wise?
I guess hunting, so maybe ranger? I don’t know their lore, it’s just what I would think bird-people do.
You can pretty much explain all classes with all races. Tengu would fit pretty well with being rangers, they do look like birds of prey and they do seem to be close to nature. But a warrior/guardian setup is just as explainable – tengu culture is somewhat based off japan culture, so think of samurais. Thief – think of ninjas. The only class that doesn’t seem to fit any race perfectly is engineer imo, which is a bit alien from sylvaris or norns, at least in my mind, and it would be just as alien from tengus, but maybe it’s just me.
“Strange thing is, i had that “bandit buff” or whatever on me which made the bandits green mobs, but other players could attack and kill me. When i died and wanted to wp i simply revived there on the spot instantly. It was really weird. After i left that area the buff came off though.
Wait. WAIT WAIT WAIT. Anet has finally introduced dueling?! Thank heavens!
Except if you have that buff on, you can’t attack back, just stand there and beg them not to kill you cuz you’re not a mob :P
But i agree this mechanic could actually be used to introduce duels, after a bit of polishing ofc….
The big question is, why did you feel the need to open a new thread for this? You could have written in quite a few other topics where people are demanding an expansion or stating why they aren’t satisfied with living story.
I really like the idea of the staff as a martial weapon, though this would definitely require some new animations imo. But it would be really cool.
Yes, the asura can be really mean and it’s known that they used to see members of other races as nothing more than inferior specimens to use for their own purposes. And some of them still do – the Inquest mostly. Apart from them, most asuras don’t see other races like that anymore and they refuse to harm sentient being – or so i’ve learned from various asura npcs.
I thought that thing was just a bug or something…. i’m so stupid xP
Anyway, why it’s there is a good question.
“and seriously 2 g? for alittle small place with green instead of red npcs?”
Yeah well, they are green because you payed. If you don’t pay, you get spammed with traps and die after a few steps usually.
And i can confirm: if you pay the gold, you can use the trap switch, which will make the Bandit Spokesperson champ come at you. If you kill her, you get the key for the tarnished chest. It doesn’t give any huge rewards – i got like 2 or 3 embroidered coin purses and some greens and mats). Strange thing is, i had that “bandit buff” or whatever on me which made the bandits green mobs, but other players could attack and kill me. When i died and wanted to wp i simply revived there on the spot instantly. It was really weird. After i left that area the buff came off though.
I haven’t played GW1 much, but i loved the music in Glint’s Lair. And also every new music introduced in this patch. They gave me goosebumps.
Yeah Tengu has been kinda the #1 candidate for a new race since over a year. We can see tengu npcs in quite a few places, so we can also see that their animations and postures are the same as charr’s – therefore, implementing them wouldn’t require a totally new animation design or armor redesign (since they could easily wear the same -though horribly stretched- armor models that charr have now). We can also see where their territory is on the map – we can see the outer wall too in Caledon forest and Kessex hills. If any new race is coming, i’d say it’s more that probable that it’s gonna be the Tengu.
And i’ll just leave these 2 pictures here, too

OMG that butterfly/moth themed armor!! I saw some pictures of it a few months ago and the medium one is just SOOOO gorgeous! I immediately started saving up gems for it, but i’m so glad that it will be obtainable by playing! w00t
Well, why not just make a sylvari…? I mean they can be really human-looking after all, and with all the colours of the rainbow.
I know about bearbow hate, but there are situations where i simply need that nice little condi cleanse… am i supposed to feel bad for it?
When i don’t have more than 1-2 hours: log in, do dailies, defeat teq if he is on schedule.
When i have a lot of time: do dailies, do world bosses, some easier jumping puzzles for fun, 1 or 2 dungeon paths when i’m in the mood, level alt characters, run eotm or wvw…. the game still keeps me occupied and somewhat satisfied
Race change would actually be a much more difficult thing to implement, as it would affect your personal story too much.
Class change on the other hand…. i don’t think it will happen, but it couldn’t be so very hard. After all, there isn’t a whole story line or anything like that related to your class – you’d only have to change your armor and weapons. A class changing item would only prevent you from haveing to start a new character each time you want to try a new class, but maybe it could also make it possible to level up a char as a class that’s easy (like, dunno, warrior) and then change it to something that would have been much harder to level (like mesmer?)
