I do not like the exalted gear they will be adding. In fact, the most recent update about it in the news section of this website only confirms what I was unhappy about.
It is gear with better stats and with infusion slots that you will need for future endgame content. It says this literally in that article.
This means that you need specific gear to do specific endgame content. This is a typical sign of a gear treadmill. It also makes current gear, including craftable gear obsolete because the stats are less and there are no infusion slots in it. Again, typical of a gear treadmill.
I am not screaming that the world is ending, but I am saying that I am not happy with this.
And let’s be honest. A fair amount of people were shouting for a carrot and Anet caved to that. They call it listening to their community (although obviously only a part of the community) and now that the tables are turned, we are supposed to stay silent about it?
I don’t like these changes and I think Anet are abandoning one of the core principles. That last part is actually the most worrying to me. You see, as much as I like the GW world there are others out there and why should I play GW2 instead of another game? The reasons for this just became lessened by this new approach. For me it cheapens the game. I as expecting new gear, new places to go, new puzzles etc. A new tier of gear was not what I expected.
I am not going to sit and wait. I will explain this here and Anet knows they will lose a number of players over this. It’s a gamble for them. Personally, I will decide after this patch comes out. This weekend will be telling for me, but as it’s a phased release (only rings right now I guess) it will become more and more clear what will happen.
I will look for the following in the near future:
LF2M for Arah – must have Exalted gear
WvW imbalances
Another tier of gearThey are smart enough to do it bit by bit, but as soon as this type of stuff really starts hitting, it will be my signal to leave this game.
It could be that other people will stay because of it, but I decided to play this game because it wasn’t like other MMOs. This will change that because endgame carrot hunting was one of the things I hated about traditional MMOs.
So not rage, but disappointment. And I am entitled to give my opinion, so don’t tell me to shut up or something. I will complain about this till my decision is final. If I do get to the point that I no longer play GW2, I will also no longer post here.
This may be the most well written response to ascended gear that i have read on the forums. You basically cover my exact thought process about this and possibly many others that have posted less eloquently about their disdain for the new gear.
Right now I am being cautiously optimistic about it. The new dungeon mechanic could be interesting, and there are ways for ANet to make it work.
“You pour hours and hours into grinding, only to acquire some skins, how is that satisfying?”
This is EXACTLY what I and many others find extremely satisfying.
I could not care less for seeing higher numbers on my screen, I just want to get a set that has the max stats and then work towards getting the rare skins, now I can’t.
Now I have to get the max stats, work towards getting a rare skin, then comes this update and I have to shift my focus for a while to get the new max stats, then I can continue working towards the skin I want (until they release even highers stats…).Adding higher number gear to the game does NOTHING but take time away from me that I wanted to spend doing kitten I like, which definitively is not some mandatory grind to stay relevant.
Then MMO is not for you.
Better gear will always come out.
When level cap increase so does the quality of the gear.
When new expansion comes out so does new legendary weapons.
That’s inevitable.
What’s preventable is needing a certain gear in order to complete a certain part of a dungeon, which is a ridiculous design and should be avoided at all cost.
GW1 was an MMO that did not have any gear progression nor did it have a level cap increase. many people like myself logged over 3k hours on that game. So no, better gear will not always come out.
I really hope they address precursors with this update… Maybe put it in the new “very difficult dungeon” as a reward? Let’s hope.
Or else I’m out.. nealy 1000 hours played, 3 lvl 80 chars, ectect… I’m already rapidly losing interest in the game sadly.
The game is only 80 days old and you have put in 1000 hours?
Also, losing interest after that much on a $60 investment seems like money well spent.
Yeah so I should just stop playing right? That’d definitely help the income of ANet!
well if you don’t enjoy the game anymore then, yeah.

I agree with OP and I also feel there should be more of a variety of choices for the other types of weapons, even if it is only one other choice. The GS skins are a perfect example of a light and dark version. They could do the same for the other Legendaries, just depends if they care enough to accommodate us. I hope they do, because, as a necro, I have no desire to waste money and time on any legendary, which is a bummer, since when they were first announced, I was so excited for them. None go with the type of character a necro is.. especially not a rainbow staff..
You could argue that frostfang is a viable necromacer legendary as the whole cold and death ideas work together. But on the whole i agree, needs to be some nice darker themed legendaries, more specifically in the caster weapons.
If you get bloodlust, have it on a secondary weapon set so that once you hit your 25 stacks you can swap weapons to the sigils you want.
I carry everything. 2 axes, 2 swords, 2 maces, shield, warhorn, hammer, greatsword, rifle, and longbow. No combination is not available to me. I understand that some people won’t like it but i agree with OP that one of the warriors strengths is the plethora of weapons we have available. I plan on getting even more weapons with various stats as well as a few more sets of armor as i have somewhat foolishly gone and decked myself out in complete beserker gear. I will probably go ahead and get clerics, knights and rampagers sets, but thats only because i am slightly crazy and love my warrior a little too much.
MH sword is funny, just turn around and press F1 to win. He stun breaks? Swap to bow and press 5. Or use a hammer and daze/knockback/knockdown, or OH shield and hit 5 when he stealths, the block should last as long as the stealth iirc. Many options to deal with thieves 1V1. Only real annoying thing is the rendering issue.
I’d suggest putting atleast 15 points into discipline for the faster weapon swap. It’s one thing that i personally don’t run without anymore. Just curious, what is your other weapon set?
You can’t slot a gem that is higher level than the backpack
- I don’t need exotic armor because green armor is good enough
>_<
You realise there is a big difference betweem rare and exotic let alone masterwork → exotic
Why not just include completion of all 8 story modes in the monthly achievements?
For regeneration, it seems to be a boon, that you have or not. But as bleeding, it can be stacked from different sources. Each source providing a different amount of hp. So all regeneration aren’t the same, some depends on healing power, some doesn’t.
healing signet however does not give the regeneration boon, but a buff called healing signet that acts the same way, thus being able to stack in intensity with the regen boon provided from banners. the adrenal health trait is the same however no boon or buff appears on the status bar
you can perma group swiftness with a warhorn and a banner provided you have the banner recharge trait. otherwise you’d need 2 banners on your skill bar. basically just drop the banner, charge, pick up banner, inspire, repeat. note that i also have the warhorn recharge trait. i’ve been runnin dolyaks with this to give them perma swiftness XD in wvw.
for attack speed, gotta go axe + frenzy.
combine the 2 and you’ll be zipping around the battlefield in a flurry of axe swings.
@ proeliator
they aren’t all the same as the regen boon. the signet is its own buff as well as the adrenal health trait. what happens is i see three numbers appear on my screen for the regen, one for each source. so while you can’t stack regen BOONs, you can stack regen from different sources
i personally use healing sig because my build basically stacks regen from healing banners, adrenal health trait in the defense line and heal sig. I am healing a total of around 650hp/s and that’s in beserkers gear. I’m traited 30 in tactics, 20 in defense and 20 in strength
the world event shows “the ash legion holds senecus castrum and the gates of flame” however CoF is still locked up. Also, Razen the Raider is still out in front with the “defend this npc” shield icon over his head, yet there is no DE going on nor is the DE to defend the gates of flame starting.
the server is Fort Apsenwood.
i use it for busting rams from behind doors in wvw with the #5 AoE attack. it dolls out the harshness
I went with the warband+claimed name model and now have an iron legion charr warrior named ulrich fuzzymane. Ulrich, being inspired from the movie a knights tale, and having that gutteral sound to it and fuzzymane because….. he was the dirty cub in his farhar.
