more skills and combat depth, right now its just stack all the boons and remove all the conditions. more weapons would be nice, or even multiple weapon skills to choose from for each weapon. but before any of that, bug fixes, bug fixes, bug fixes. this should have been the #1 concern. get what you have working then add new content. and as just about everyone else has said, drop the Asc. gear. i actually logged on GW1 today for the first time in a year.
its too bad, i actually had (no lie here i swear) some money going onto to my paypal that was going to clear around the 19th of this month. but i probably won’t be spending it on gems anymore.
Last time I logged into GW1, I was annoyed at how static it was.
Oh, I just get upset that I can’t jump :-S Wish I’d never played GW2, that way I wouldn’t miss jumping so much!
Honestly!
yup been playing ever since i made the post, really hard to not try and dodge/jump everwhere. also mountains are really startign to annoy me XD
you know after reading a lot of the ideas shown in this post, made me really wanna go back to GW1. seriously though, the ideas here are great, if they even implement half of them I would come back in a heartbeat. I think I am going back to GW1 for a while. maybe see some of you peeps there.
That’s what SWG NGE taught us, as cited in the first post:
“The mistake was to not just think we know the right direction without bringing the fans into the mix. We made the cardinal sin of not listening, but assuming, and we were wrong.”The irony is AN made all the claims they would respect and listen to the player all up though development then just…didn’t. I really don’t understand how they could think they could get away with it in the age of the internet. http://www.arena.net/blog/the-golden-rules-of-guild-wars-2 is a great read if you feel like a bitter laugh or two. The last two tenants especially are a complete joke knowing what we know now.
i really like their quoted purpose for the last tenant
i think it would be alright if the infusions them selves didn’t have stats added onto them.
i’m waiting to see the actual implementation of this new patch to really see how good/bad its going to be. although it would be a lie for me to say that i like the idea of a new gear tier.
you didn t change what i wrote….
SINGLE thread 10.000 posts 100.000 visits…JFYI that is/was a graveyard-thread where the mods merged all discussions in, both pro and against, and not a single thread.
the point is it is all related to the patch and peoples discontent with it. the fact alone that they had to make a garbage thread has the same effect as having one megathread
So the game is bringing out a very slight gear improvement, i would hardly say Anet are forcing a massive gear treadmill on you. Atm it is only on bags and trinket and the image of the two rings show there is a +5 stat difference between the exotic and asceneded, would you say that’s game breaking? Maybe none of you want any character progression, but i for one and i know alot of people who have quit or didn’t want to buy the game becasue there is no character progression at all. I don’t want to be runing around in the same gear for the next 7 years, yeah GW1 had no progression, but GW1 was 90% based on PvP. GW1 was NOT a MMO. No other mmo on the market has no character progression once you hit max lvl because it’s something that makes an mmo an mmo. This is hardly like WoW where your gear becomes completely uselss every few months when a new raid comes out and you spend the next few months farming the next tier of gear. You can do everything in the game still without the ascended gear unless you’re getting into the high lvls of the new dungeon
again why does progression mean bigger stats?
your sentiment is nice, but lord byron has a point
i’ve actually also noticed an improvement on the FA server
Such is life.
“That is the logic of the defeated! Winners must always think of not how the world is but how the world should be!”
your posts make me smile and do a happy facepalm every time i read them.
this is a compliment btw.
i don;t understand why people need a higher number at all for a sense of progression, there are many other ways to accomplish that. titles being an equally easy way to do it, if not easier because it requires no balancing.
this existed before the patch, along with foefire’s essence, azureflame, aether…. and many many many other exotics in that price range. which is why this ascended addition is confusing, cause it is filling a rarity gap that never existed
you can re-use it definitely.
i think it is reserved for 24 hours for you but this i am not sure of
warrior spear #5 under water is an instant win button. as a warrior myself i love it especially when you are already traited into GS/spear traits.
if they created a subforum that could be an alternative solution and just stashed all the topics there
well yeah it is a good way to sweep up negative thoughts. though there have been a very large amount of threads opening up rapidly, and had someone not merged them all, it surely would have eaten up the first few pages in the general discussion area. so i can see it being innocentish
Edit: also the post above me has a good point
no amulet yet, but they will be adding more later
so warriors get 10% dmg buff on longbow and added some projectile finishers and a fix on a tooltip for bulls charge for the patch, while most other classes get a large list of bug fixes and adjustments. clearly Anet favours warriors
10% damage buff on our least favored (for a reason) weapon, and some projectile finishers for those all important underwater weapons. Elsewhere in the patch:
Thief backstab builds in WvW can still 1-shot a dozen people simultaneously, since the nerf didn’t affect them. Mesmers can still portal 500 billion people, ele’s can still use all 750 of their weapon skills without needing a weapon swap, guardians can still bunker well enough to withstand 4 million warriors beating on them, necros got buffed in a major way (they maybe needed it) and rangers got ignored (which they also needed)
Yeah, you keep singing that old tune “woe is me, woe is me….”
sarcsm doesn’t convey over the internet well does it…….
here is a ring
http://www.gw2db.com/items/71382-lunaria-circle-of-the-moon-infused
yes they are very much more powerful than the current exotic gear, go look on gw2databse for yourself to see the others
I’d love to see a norn warrior standing in mighty platemail with an epic flowing cape of awesomeness following him. i’m guessing part of the problem is with charr, being that they run on four legs out of combat
i’d like the combat more in this if there we’re more skills and skill variation, while i don’t want it to be a pretty GW1, i would still like the core principles of GW1 to stick around.
now send me my copper
regarding Fast Hands, very recently I saw a red post stating that Fast Hands is only bugged directly after equipping it, and otherwise functions normally after rezoning, after which the poster stressed that fixing this error in the brief window Fast Hands doesn’t function is exceedingly difficult. The trait will still work, just with an extremely small inconvenience.
that’s exactly the point: your opinions come from what you’ve read not from what you’ve know. The red post is wrong (before patch, didnt test after patch).
Well, I just did a quick check and fortunately now I do know. It seems as though I misread the post by a bit, however, so here we have the genuine article: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Warrior-changes-in-15th-Nov-patch/first#post745583
It is behaving as was described in the red, having the first weapon swap be normal and having the reduction applied to all weapon swaps following.
if you read further down some players have tested it (as have I) and it definitely is NOT only broken on the first weapon swap
So we are going to need some form of gear score, publicly viewable agony resistance or inspect. What is your plan to address this ANet?
Also, what kind of player number cap are you putting on these dungeons? I mean 5 players is all well and good but it doesn’t feel anything like as epic as killing a mighty dragon with say, 25 or 40 people.
Why not just call it WOW as well. Put in your changes and people like you can stand yelling “LFG. Come to Lion Arch for inspection” and “LFG, Gear Score 2000 required”
When will you people realise that the vast majority don’t want that type of crap anymore and we found it here. Until now!
Thanks for reading, and thankyou arenanet for finally listening to the community ^^
They did the opposite.
Majority of people don’t want this kind of content?
How many people play WoW?
How many people play guild wars?
People standing in the middle of LA asking for inspection is just a natural part of any progression based game, no sense in fighting it.
The majority of people eat meat. Some people don’t.
You just walked into a vegetarian restaurant, told everyone they were idiots, and convinced the owner to add meat to every dish.
Grats. You’re ruining things that other people enjoy so that they match up with things that already exist that you enjoy.
This is why we can’t have nice things. No, really. This. Literally, this.
thats probably one of the best analogies i have seen for this arguement.
+1 for you sir
so warriors get 10% dmg buff on longbow and added some projectile finishers and a fix on a tooltip for bulls charge for the patch, while most other classes get a large list of bug fixes and adjustments. clearly Anet favours warriors
Ya, because the Warrior class is clearly not one of the, if not the, most powerful and robust classes in the game right now. I mean, when I WvW I all I see is an endless swarm of Rangers, Necros and Engineers. I rarely, if ever, see a Warrior. You guys clearly needed a good amount of attention. The Ranger got 0 updates last round, it’s only fair the Warrior see the majority of the love this time.
are we even reading the same patch notes? i won;t argue that rangers need even more love than they got in this patch but the warrior fixes were so very very minor. 1 buff and some tooltip updates.
It has nothing to do with what we got and everything to do with the best class in the game complaining because they didn’t get anything. I’m not going to claim to know much about the warrior’s in’s and out’s, but whatever problems you guys have to deal with, it’s obviously not holding you back much and you certainly didn’t come out if it any worse off than before.
i’m not complaining that i didn’t get anything, i’m trying to argue the point that OMG Anet is focusing on warriors too much is silly when all they did was change a number and some text.
Fair enough.
I did think the longbow buff was rather odd given that I can’t actually recall ever seeing a warrior use a bow although maybe that was their reasoning.
TBH i use the bow frequently so this update had me smiling ear to ear.
my charr is cute and fuzzy and noms salad people XD. but yeah the Kodan ( i believe you were referring to) would be an awesome addition as a playable race, as well as the largos, er whatever those underwater people are called.
I was thinking Kodans at first, but I worry about the possibility for customization. I mean, they’re polar bears so no changing their fur. And they don’t have hair on their heads, so no hairstyles. I would think that would be off-putting for most players…having a Kodan that looked like every other Kodan in the game. And considering the same armor skins based on levels, they’ll be alot of identical players out there.
tattoos could be added on to account for fur colours and head customization can be done to look different, but yes i see your point, it would be hard to make it much more interesting than that. though i think the cultural armor for them alone would be worth it.

and after that we can add the pandas!
it’s brilliant.
I actually would like some more animalistic races that are cute. I mean we have charr and asura which kind of resemble dogs and monkeys respectively, but what about cute cat people and such?
Charr look more like dogs than cats??? Have you even LOOKED at the female Charrs? They’re definitely the ‘cat people’ of Guild Wars. They’re just not scrawny like Khajiits.
That being said, I’d love more animalistic races too…well, any type of additional race would please me so long as it wasn’t too similar to any existing race (or a Panda). GW2 has all other fantasy MMORPGs beat in the race department as far as I’m concerned. Sure, some people think Slyvari and Asura are the respective equivalent of Elves and Gnomes because of their cultures, but at least Anet DID make an effort to do something different.
Personally, I’d love to see Centaurs be added to the playable races. Although if they allowed customization of the horse part of the body as well, I’m guessing some people would attempt to make it like My Little Pony.
Please no pink or purple color options, Anet. XD
The charr race isn’t even remotely cute or appealing. I don’t know why anyone would play them.
We need some cute animal races that actually have some form of appeal. Pandas would be ok but it would be a bit of a ripoff, maybe something similar though.
Get those bear people already in game and make them cuter perhaps. The ones that talk slowly and have strange names.
Don’t get me started on the salad people.
my charr is cute and fuzzy and noms salad people XD. but yeah the Kodan ( i believe you were referring to) would be an awesome addition as a playable race, as well as the largos, er whatever those underwater people are called.

But all MMO need progression. New tier will give that progression.
Yer there has never been a successful MMO released without progression content, we need new tiers but patience, we need for the majority of people to have at least experienced ascended first.
lmao.
i mean you’re just so wrong i don’t even..
good god, but you’re just so wrong, haha.
keep talking kiddo, i’m sure your exhaustive knowledge of the last 3 years of the gaming market won’t let you down
hahaReally? Please list one.
I am more than willing to be corrected, just provide some substance please.
GW1
GW1 had infusion too. They borrowed this awesome concept from that game.
that is a twist on the truth, they had infusion that you could add to your existing armor sure, that protected you from one skill in the whole game that was localized to the end of one campaign. no extra stats were added, and this was a part of the story of the game from the very begining.
literraly all infusion was in GW1 was like a 10 minute mini quest to get your armor to say infused on it. thats it.
so warriors get 10% dmg buff on longbow and added some projectile finishers and a fix on a tooltip for bulls charge for the patch, while most other classes get a large list of bug fixes and adjustments. clearly Anet favours warriors

GW1
did you find the chantry of secrets in bloodtide coast? also they added 2 more POI’s in lions arch with the recent update (don;t know if you can grab them yet or not)
“I can’t outrun a centaur”
I’ll +1 this thought as well. especially for the trinkets section of your character, as they are limited (to my knowledge) to the basic , carrion, beserker, valkyrie, knights, cleric, rampagers, explorer’s sets. with armor we also have the combination offered through the karma vendors in Orr aswell.
+5 power x 6 accessories and 6 armor pieces(note that armor pieces have varying stats depending on which piece, i.e. helm stats <chestpiece stats) there will be a noticeable increase in stats.
now the armor is a bit more guesswork as we have no idea if they are going to account for runes or not. but as it stands right now, the exotic ring shown on the right of the image in the post is completely obsolete when compared to the ascended ring on the left.
By that logic anything up until now that wasn’t an Exotic tier item has been considered an obsolete item? So up until I upgraded to Exotic gear, I’ve basically been wearing trash bags and swinging old newspapers but still somehow I’ve managed to be competitive, that’s pretty embarrassing for my opponents (PvP and PvE alike).
Sarcasm aside, my point is that the increase in stats isn’t nearly as tremendous as everyone seems to think. Yes, it’s a better item stat-wise. No, it doesn’t make Exotics obsolete… not by a long shot.
ok i will give you that it is not obsolete but it is inferior in every way.
there is another thing i want to point out that i don’t know if it has been brought up. but if you look at armor and weapons armor and damage stats, they also scale with rarity example:
beserker exotic mace
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8361-berserkers-pearl-bludgeoner
beserker rare mace
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8354-berserkers-krait-morning-star
this is the same for armor aswell.
notice the difference in the weapon strength stat? now again this is speculation, but if that trend continues then ascended gear would be higher as well.
also as for being competitive in wvw (as that is the only current PvP that lets you use your PvE armor) your opponents may have had the same gear as you or even lower for that matter.
and again as I have said in other posts I am actually being optimistic about this patch as i think it won’t be the end of the world as some people think it might. the new gear is a pain but if it is truly the last tier then i will just treat it as if it was meant to be in form the begining. If the pattern continues (i really doubt it will) then i will leave. but for now i am cautiously excited.
i like how this turned into only a necro thread.
“my ability to heal enemy mobs is way OP”
No, they’re not.
Please look again at the ring comparison, and compare the stats. The Ascended has +5 Power, +5 Precision and +3% Magic Find over the Exotic.
+5 power x 6 accessories and 6 armor pieces(note that armor pieces have varying stats depending on which piece, i.e. helm stats <chestpiece stats) there will be a noticeable increase in stats.

No MMO is without grind. Its impossible to achieve this. Even GW1 had grind (even though GW1 is not an MMO). Kurzick/Luxon title was a pretty lengthy grind. Getting obsidian armor was a pretty lengthy grind. Etc etc.
+1
Or how about Legendary Defender of Ascalon?
the grind in GW1 was for titles and skins, which are very different beasts all together. they still retained the image of superiority that players crave without making people statistically better. the issue with gear is that we have to grind it out to keep up where as titles we can pick and choose which ones we want to accomplish or none at all.
again as i have said in other posts, i will be waiting to see this new content before i make a judgement as to how grindy this will be. I think the infusion mechanic could be interesting depending on how it is implemented
I can’t believe people are talking about LORE in an PvP forum in what is obviously supposed to be a PVP game.
The PvP is bad, period. For many reasons including lack of PvP modes, yes this includes GvG – the heart of this game.
You Loreboys can go back to the PvE forums thx.
Guild Wars is not a PvP game… it has PvP, but it also has large amounts of PvE. Even GW1 had that. Sorry to say but GW as a whole got lore and lots of it and you know… a lot of people love that. A lot of people never touch the PvP because it is not their thing. GW1 was perhaps at its birth meant as a PvP game… but it just aint like that anymore and have not been like that for a very very very long time.
RPG is not about the roles of tank – healer etc. either. An RPG is where you play a different role… you develop a story for the character, you give him her personality etc. Part of this ofc. given to you in these game cases. But adjusting to the trinity is not roleplaying.
However I am not saying PvP should not get some attention. It should. More modes should be added and what not. I am sure it will happen eventually. Then people need to find new things to complain about, but then people always find something to complain about so wont run of that… ever.
This is not a PvP forum either… this is for general GW2 discussions. I am sure there is a PvP part too, although I never check that.
It’s goal is to be an ESport so i would imagine you can consider this a PvP game. (granted i have only heard rumours about this, but the rumours have been everywhere)
and when they said it was a pvp forum, it probably was at some point and got moved. (this is just speculation XD)
feel free to ignore this post as i have apparently only based it on rumours and speculation.
i said stuff, had to cut for post length
Ummm actually your wrong they never once said that wvwvw is a even playing field…. infact they said the exact opposite. Its a war and they are going to leave it like that.
You want even skill based pvp? thats what they made spvp for.
Stop pushing your delusions and expectations on everyone else.
As for pve…. I think there should be progression. It keeps people interested….. look at wow it doesn’t have millions of players because everyone hates progression it has millions of players because it keeps putting out NEW goals for players.
Now that being said I don’t want this to be like wow. But having a tiny bit of progression IN ONE AREA OF THE GAME. IS not the end of the world no matter how much you think it is.
They also specifically stated that many players have reached the end, and those players need something.
Because right now there really is nothing for people that are more hardcore then you and have accomplished everything in game. This is not a debate about lives either, just because they have done it all doesn’t mean they are a lesser person or have no life.
But AN needs something for those people, or are you so selfish to think that you need to have your way? They stated it wouldn’t be the start of a gear treadmill so why are people insisting its going to be when you have ZERO facts about it? You have no clue what they are planning after this.
Fact is the people that like progression of some sort paid 60 bucks just like you did… or more depending on what they bought. They also buy gems just like you do. And no saying if you don’t like it go play xxxxx mmo instead.
Right now there is NOTHING to make people want to keep playing, there really isn’t. Spvp really isn’t on a esport level with balance issues. WvW…. well I guess if you like running around in a pointless battle with massive macro’d zergs then good on you but there really is no incentive, no rankings or anything that give you something to work towards… titles… gear anything really. WvW isn’t meant to be balanced…. other wise a level 2 with whites wouldn’t be allowed to fight level 80’s in full exotics that clearly have a gear advantage.
So that leaves us pve for some kind of leeway for progression of some sort. If you don’t like it well sorry, don’t know what to tell you. But you don’t know where its going to go nor do I know where its going to go. But AN has realized people aren’t playing much after hitting 80, because there is nothing to do, well grind for your legendary, but outside that. Not much.
i don’t know if you read through all of my post, but the last 2 paragraphs were about how i am OK with the new patch and I am trying to be optimistic, and more than willing to try it out.
as for WvW you are right there isn’t much incentive to play it right now, it does need more content. So why didn’t they add more to that instead? or to the rest of the games lacking areas? (as you said with balancing issue sPvP isn’t where it should be, though i believe class balance is a big part of hte update)
rankings and titles are an awesome idea, i would love to see commanders that actually have commander status from playing WvW rather than farming 100g.
I think we partially agree on things and compromises can be made. My original point was to support the OP in that people who don’t have time to play regularly to get new content shouldn’t be hindered by it.
Two hours a day is a lot of time, yes. Most people would not be willing to commit that much time to a game, but those who do are rewarded. Large-scale games like this have to appeal to a wide range of players, some of whom DO play two hours a day, while still trying to make it fun for the rest of us who don’t.
My husband and I were hardcore raiders in WoW (5 hours a night, 5 days a week, plus farming for mats during the off-time) back in the day before children and commitments of real life took over. Gaming was our social time, entertainment/chill time, source of a feeling of achievement, etc… We had the best gear available because we put in the time for it. It would have ticked us off if players who decided to go into a dungeon one night a week should have the same gear as those who of us who committed much more time.
Same principle with the legendary items in GW2. Those who have those items have put in the time. If you don’t have the time, that’s fine, but don’t whine about it. Take joy in the fact that you sound like a very well-rounded person.
except that if you read the whole thing, OP isn’t worried about legendaries, infact he is quite alright with the time commitment that they incur. OP is just worried that IF this turns into a treadmill (which i doubt) that they won’t have the time to keep up.
To be fair, most of the people who WvW in green / yellow gear are called “walking loot” :P
Whether that’s because they have less game experience or worse stats is up in the air though.
probably a bit of both, i confess i love finding these guys. easy badges for my legendary XD.
that being said while i am hesitant about the update, I am trying to be optimistic about it.
The way I see Guild Wars 2 as it was sold to people is as something equal to communism. People were tired of the competition and the hawkishness and the race of living in a capitalist society, where the wealthy exploited the poor. Most people feel like in MMO’s they are the poor because they don’t have the capital (time) to invest in getting somewhere with their lives (characters).
Then Guild Wars 2 comes along and promises a poor (undergeared) man’s utopia where everything’s equal and a certain quality of life is assured and people can live in a levelled playing field where life is fair. Then when it’s made people discover that the lack of progress is grounding society to a halt and that a brain drain is commencing that’s taking people back into the capitalist world of competition and opportunity. I’m sure that in 1989 the Soviet Union still had a few ardent communists running around insisting that their system was perfect, but the country collapsed two years later for a reason.
So how did GW1 outlast the soviet union then? seems it followed the same set of principles.
and before you say “this is GW2 not GW1” i want to point out that all I am trying to say is that it is possible to have a successful MMO with out gear progression, and that it was even this company ANET that did it. which is contradicting your logic that an MMO needs gear progression to survive. That was a formula made for sub based MMO’s.
Honestly the whole casual vs. hardcore thing argument has been dissected to ridiculous levels. Comparing it to other activities like comparing oranges to apple, makes that much sense. Reading the DaVinci code? Seriously wth?
When I am busy with life, I don’t really worry about what I am achieving in online gaming. Nor does it bother me that people who are allocating more time to video games are acquiring items (legendaries) that my time budget does not allow for.
After all if decide to play football, learn a musical instrument, have a “life”, cook, read a book and then complain I don’t have time to complete activities in an online MMORPG, then its quite simply my own kitten fault!
This games already offers something for people with different “time budgets”. If your previous decisions in life don’t allow you to have the time budge to complete a certain activity in this moment of your life, then tough luck man. Thats life.
I just don’t understand how we got to this point, where I sit down to play a game and I expect the company to have made the game to fit my particular schedule O.o. Then everyone who actually has time to complete something because they have the time (for whatever reason) has to be looked down upon.
Lets man up and accept the consequences of our choices ok? In this case it would be you don’t have enough time to complete a legendary as fast as you would like because your life does not allow it. This is not Anet fault… but you will get one; eventually…
Bah Im ranting O.o
this post wasn’t about legendaries, infact OP said he doesn’t mind taking his/her time making it even if it takes years.
it is a little early to say that it has been invalidated
you are correct sir, seems my forum browsing fu is not as strong as yours lol.
no worries bud, as long as we all discuss the same information we can atleast argue and yell at each other accurately.
State of the game as reality sees it:
FULL servers just mean there can be no more new accounts added to that server, doesn’t mean that is how many players are currently online.
this is a quote from another forum from ANET
“when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap, independently of where did they create their accounts.”
lol you are conveniently missing the part about where she explicitly says that full means they are playing at that very moment…meaning that full means its full of active playing characters.
she editted that part, as she went on to contradict herself. there is a thread dedicated to the ambiguity.
also re-read that quote you linked as it is exactly what i quoted above.

why is it that people feel the need to work towards better gear? this game was meant to be an even playing field for all players regardless of time commitment, where PvP(read sPvP, WvW, tPvP) outcomes were determined by skill and understanding of game mechanics. Adding a new tier of gear is just postponing this “lack of endgame” problem until later. Once people have kitted out completely in ascended gear, ANet is back to their original problem.
this is coming from someone in the hardcore community (500+ hours with a full time job)
for the record i do not see a lack of endgame, as there wasn’t an intended endgame to begin with. Just get your max gear and play for the sake of playing the game.
There is no subscription fee, so you don’t need to play this game every minute of every day unless you enjoy it. Anet doesn’t need to keep you playing month after month consistently, they’ll just get you back with events, new pvp arena’s and challenges. Believe or not, they are very good at adding content that doesn’t leave players feeling left behind because they missed an update. As someone with over 3000 hours on GW1 so I can verify that they are capable.
Now as for this update, I personally don’t think it is the end of the world. At most its just a jab in the ribs. They have said they aren’t turning this into a gear treadmill so I’m going to for now give them the benefit of the doubt for reasons already mentioned. If done right, the infusion mechanic could be interesting. I won;t know until the content comes out.
If this does turn out to be the start of a treadmill ( which i do doubt) then i will leave the game with no hard feelings. I have already played a long time with full exotics and enjoyed lots the game has to offer at the current maximum.
