So again, nice comments towards Anet, but please leave the snide comments at the door if you don’t mind.

I think that if I really write what I think, then I will not be allowed to post again. Check my previous post, I am not allowed to edit it – when I submit, nothing happens.

The Lost Shores: phase 1, update

I logged on some hours after the event started. I was suprised to learn that the inital event was already over. Done, finit. No comment.

I do the dungeon 7 times, no problems. Good.

The first thing I do then is try to complete the event chain – I expect something like Halloween, where you would be LOST if you didnt search the web for information about how to complete the halloween event. I search google, and ristrict my search to guildwars2.com – nothing. I do the beach stuff, report back, and then find Blingg. He tells about Noll. I try to search LA for Noll. Nope, no Noll. I think, ok I will read the first mail and go there and look.

Because of this we’re going to leave the Phase 1 dynamic events (investigation of the Karka attacks) open even after Phase 2 starts

Hmm.

  • To complete Phase 1, you have to complete the dynamic event chain leading to Noll before Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time; you will be able to complete the dynamic events after Noll once we’ve pushed the fix;

How do we know if we have completed the event leading to Noll? It seems to me the information you get in-game is useless. I got some mails from the game engine, regarding the event. The first mail tells me to go to go south of [Spiral Waypoint]. But nothing happens there, and the npc I am told to look for is not there either. So I look to the far south to be sure I have looked far enough to the south, and still nothing. I return to the south of the waypoint, and still nothing. By pure chance I return again, and suddenly there are karka’s attacking (who knows why?) and I can see the npc stand south of the waypoing. I talk to him, but still get useless info. The event ends, and I think ‘What was that about?’, ‘What now?’, ‘Did I learn what to do next? No’.

Later by pure chance, I notice an orange star south-east of [Spiral Waypoint]. I go there, and an npc seems to require some stuff that can be found on the sea floor. But nothing happens when you give it to the npc. I think the npc name is Saballa. I ask many different players, but no one knows what to do.

Sigh. This is worse than having a frustrating job that you dont like to do. This is a game where you are supposed to have fun and entertainment, right?

you can refer to the "wiki article about Phase ":http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1>; for more information;

Hmm. Let’s see what the web page says:

Following the one-time event in which Karkas attack Lion’s Arch, players are tasked with investigating the reason for the atatck.
Examining the debris on the shores in Lion’s Arch in the right order (crates, then barrels) will yield clues. The final piece of debris, a waterlogged barrel, needs to be pried open with a metal bar that can also be found on the beach.
The clues lead to Consortium Director Blingg at the new Consortium Gift Shop point of interest in Lion’s Arch.

That’s it. So where is Noll? I ask other players and they tell me where he is, that he is bugged, and that he is permanently downed. How did they find out? Who knows.

Note that while I write this mail I checked the link again, and now, all of a sudden, the page contains a lot of information. If I check the history of the wiki page, it claims that the page DID NOT look like I just copy pasted above. So what is going on? Timestamp problems? Do the wiki-writers submit an entire batch of 24 hours edits in one go? Note that my browser clears EVERYTHING (cookies/cache/history/logins/etc) whenever I close it, and I close it very often (once every few hours sometimes more).

Could you please stop releasing stuff that is not tested (game/wiki/forum). I know that the industry has conditioned many online players to accept bugs, but to me, it is simply unacceptable. Plus, the information you provide on the wiki SHOULD have been/MUST be available in-game. Frustrating and disappointing.

EDIT:
Regarding the following link:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1

Almost every time I open the link, I get a different version, with different history.

If I look at the link from the page:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/

Then the link is showed colored red – as if it doesn’t exist at all. If I click on the link then I get different verions of the page/history.

The version I got just before I started writing this added EDIT was:

The Mysterious Karka attacks Lion’s Arch.

Collect Karka Shells for contribution and fight the Karka spawns Back.

Karka entering Lion’s Arch and Retreating.

The version I get when I check while writing this is a long page with maps and all. Ah well. What … is … going … on … here.

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

I tried to close the page, then click on the thread from the bugs page:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs

If I do this I am sent to an empty page:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Issues-with-getting-in-dungeon-instances/page/9#post752753

Ah well. I corrected the link by hand, and it looks like the link I should have been sent to when clicking this thread via the userinterface should have been:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Issues-with-getting-in-dungeon-instances/page/8

EDIT: When I submited this post, I am again sent to the same empty page, instead of the page of the last post/submitted post. If I edit the post, the page that displays is the correct page.

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

People in the same party should enter the same dungeon instance. Could you please take care of this?

I have reported this so many times now, and I see this thread is 3 months old, and the bug still persists. People in the same party enter different instances of the ‘same’ dungeon. This usually happens because someone leaves/goes offline and gets kicked – and then we try to get a new party member into the dungeon.

- If we all stay in the dungeon and wait for the newly invited member to enter, he enters another dungeon instance.

- If someone goes to fetch a new member invite him, and they then enter the dungeon, they enter a new dungeon instance.

- Sometimes when the group enters the dungeon for the first time, they get into different dungeon instances.

Suggestion:

1) Stop making new content. Fix the bugs. Fix the bugs. Fix the bugs. Stop making new content before you have fixed all existing bugs … please.

2) How are we supposed to get a new member into the dungeon? Most we follow a specific set of rules? Will Anet please make it crystal clear what we need to do via the user interface?

3) Must it be the party leader that invites (or goes out and fetches) the new party member? Must it be someone that is not the leader? Must everybody stay in the dungeon, invite the new member, and then the new member must enter alone? What are we supposed to do? Please show who the party leader is in the user interface. Please show us how to invite new members into the same instance via the user interface.

4) Who is the party leader? How do you tell who the party leader is? Where can you see who the leader of the party is? Please mark the party leader with a special icon and with a mouse-onhoover label ‘Party Leader’.

5) Here is some code to locate the instance the party is currently in for the specified player. Please use it at will.

[…]
/// Return the dungeon instance of the party of the specified player.
function get_dungeon_instance(player) {
  object dungeon = 0; // The dungeon instance we need.
  object party = player->get_party();
  if(party != 0) {
    for(i=0; i<5; ++i) {
      object party_member = party->get_member_by_index(i);
      if(party_member == 0)
        continue;
      object env = party_member->get_environment();
      if(env == 0)
        continue;
      if(env->is_dungeon() == 0)
        continue;
      dungeon = env;
      break;
    }
  }
  return dungeon;
}
[…]

EDIT: The code is not properly indented, because the forum engine for submitting posts strips all leading space from each line in my post. Sigh. When I edit the post the spaces are still there.

EDIT2: I’ve replace the leading space with the html for non-breaking-space. It seems to solve the issue.

WvW performance.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

sorenrye.7238

I have played multi user games on the internet for more than 20 years. I am used to playing multi player games on servers around the world, and I am used to playing with ping 10 and ping 240.

I have never played an online multi user game that suffers from the performance issues that I have encountered in GW2 WvW.

I don’t know where to start, because there are so many issues, so I will just go ahead and list my issues in a random order. I will probably forget to list half of them, but I am just so irritated right now, especially because I tried to bug report this ingame, but the game kept shutting down (updates/new build) with not enough warning. So all my typing was in vain. And btw, the bug reporting edit widget is bugged – and I reported this multiple times, and it is still bugged – but let’s safe that one for another time.

Performace issues / bugs in WvW:

1) When many players are in the same are, my frames per second drops to 1-6 fps. This is the most annoying issue. Why can’t I turn off all the unnecessary eye candy? I don’t need to see explosions, I don’t need to see flames, I don’t need to see smoke, I don’t need it. Just draw the red circles for aoe. Give me the option to disable the rendering of explosions and special armor and weapons on players. Hell, disable displaying the npc/player models entirely. I only need the label of the players/npcs. Which brings up another issue ‘Why can’t you click on the label of a player/npc and select that player/npc?" – ah well – yet another issue (this worked fine in gw1).

2) When someone starts hitting my character, I don’t see them hitting it, before they have hit it 10+ times. Then my client starts to show me that something is happening.

3) If a message is displayed, it is always displayed with a delay, making it impossible to get a kill stump, if any other players are near by.

4) If I try to turn around, it is impossible to determine in which direction I will end up looking in, because the game stutters too much.

5) If I activate a skill with an activation time of ‘1’, then I can watch the skill activate for 4-5 seconds, and nothing happens. Then my character dies. Yes, it was the healing skill.

6) If my character jump from one cliff to the next, then often the game does not register the jump/button-click. This does not happen in other games. I also have the same issue with ‘auto run’ which drives me crazy – I press R, then wait for it to start running, but it doesn’t. Then I press R again, and it still doesn’t start running. Then I press R again, and then it starts running then stops, because somehow my 2nd R-press registered a little late AND the 3rd press canceled it !!!!

7) When someone invisible attacks my character, the attacking character does not become visible immediately. Some seconds pass 2-4, before the attacker becomes visible. The only thing I can see, is the damage my character receives. I play Mesmer and thief myself, and if I attack with any of these characters, then MY character becomes visible immediately.

8) Sometimes when my character runs forward, and targets a blink/jump a little further in front of the character, the attempt to blink/teleport/jump, then the character telports TO THE SAME LOCATION THAT IT IS ALREADY IN.

Suggestion:
a) Please make it possible for clients to disable the rendering of all the unnecessary stuff. Explosions, player models, whatever. As much as possible.

b) Please make it possible for the client, to only process what is happening within a certain radius of the player. Make it possible to make the radius ridiculously small.

c) Please let GW2 take advantage of all the unused clock-cycles on my graphic card !!!

d) Lower the number of players allowed per map in wvw.

[BUG] The Stone Sheath

in Personal Story

I just tried to complete the story quest again. I restarted guild wars 2 and selected the same character and started the story quest.

I swam towards the area, killed two pirates and got downed. When I got downed, the 2nd step of the story completed, even though I had not collected any artifacts yet. Step 3 did not activate, is not available. The quest is stuck. See the screenshot.

How can this happen?

Edit 1: There is an attachment option, but it doesn’t work. The attchment is nowhere to be seen in the post. You can browse for the attachment, but you can not upload it – there is no upload button – only a browse button. Honestly: What is going on here?

Edit 2: When I edited the letter the 2nd time, the attachment appeard. Lol.

[BUG] The Stone Sheath

in Personal Story

= Part 1
The bug has not been fixed – 2012-November-11.

I have tested 3 times with an engineer, and lost the scabbard all 3 times.

Here is how you test:

1) Get the scabbard
2) Get into combat (may no be necessary)
3) Swim to surface (while in combat – may not be necessary)
4) Dive again.

==== Part 2
If you reenter the story quest after triggering the bug, you can not get the scabbard again. When you pickup the first dwarf artifact, step 2 completes, but step 3 does not start. You have to restart guild wars. I only tested this once, I see no reason to do it again.
