Graphics loading since last patch

I’m guessing this is intentional with a change in the asset loading behavior. I’ve also noticed a lot of place holder models (the class generic pink ones) when it has a hard time loading player models in clustered events.

Assuming LOD is predicting and switching fast enough, it seems to keep the FPS above the stutter line.

Found this pretty quick based on the error. It seems pretty rare, so I would wager minor corruption on exit or something in that vein. (last NV driver was Sep 14th, so could be an auto update related problem)

OKAY. Good news. I fixed the issue. AND here’s how.
- Delete users/username/AppData/Roaming/Guild Wars 2
- Delete CoherentUI.dll/CoherentUI_Host.exe in the GW2/bin folder

Start launcher and it played without error. GG.

You overestimate automated anything. No program in existence has ever been able to properly predict settings without a full benchmark… and the few that try are usually based on countless samples from other users running benchmarks and feed back.

But more to the point, theres 50% chance your drivers screwed up and aren’t switching to the Discreet graphics on game launch (thats a profile problem, nothing to do with the game). 35% that the 560M is overheating rapidly, and throttling back to avoid melting (more like exploding actually), and 15% you’re system can’t handle the resolutions you’re trying to run, and 10% change you just have too much crap running that destroys all the performance overhead. This is of course with a 20% margin for error……

Mouse disappears followed by crash

After fiddling with a long list of tools, I think I’ve narrowed it down to Precision X16. I suspect its the OSD, but since I can’t shut it off separately from the program, I can’t confirm that far down.

If this really only did start with the last patch, think this would had been more wide spread.

Mouse disappears followed by crash

I got tough one. Just finished a reinstall of windows, got all my drivers reinstalled, and guildwars redownloaded. Basically everything fresh.

For reasons beyond my comprehension the mouse cursor disappears after roughly 30 seconds of loading a character, and any attempts to open the map screen results in unceremonious CTD, with no errors, no logs, but at least generates a crashdump. I could just let it sit, and this will still happen.

Tried to reinstall the GPU drivers for the last 3 versions for my card (GTX590), disabled SLI, reset the game’s video settings and brought it down to “performance”, and forced manual fan speeds (GPU temps never go over 52c).

Win7 Home
i5 2500k
GTX 590 (344.11, 340.52 and 340.43, all clocks stock)
Asus STX audio (7.12.8.1794)
Asus Max V Formula mobo
Corsair AX1200i (tons of power)

I’ve previous references to the mouse getting layered incorrectly, but never a cause or resolution as to why.

Anyone have any ideas?

Server Latency and Game Disconnects... proof its server side.

1. Where do you live?
2. What server are you connecting to?

RPG styled games can withstand higher latency and still function, but that 280ms isn’t seeing the entire picture. Processing overhead is probably adding another 100ms (maybe more considering the scale), but without stats from the game’s data stream its still hard to tell how badly its getting stalled.

And out of curiosity, whats the reference point for the 140ms?

Movement control lock up bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

This started after the Oct 11 build. There seems to be some rare instances where if a player is knocked down, or immobilized, the player doesn’t regain movement after the effect expires. The only sure to break out of this state is to use a skill that causes you to move or leap (active dodge may not work when stuck).

The walk toggle might also unstuck the player, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

What resolution, how much VRAM is on the card, and what graphics settings are you using?

I’m doubtful its a general problem with the engine, and could be one of those very specific combination in your setup that leads to the problem. Or it could be your pushing it too hard, and its pushing back.

20 Bear brawl bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

starlinvf.1358

This is an odd, but rather entertaining NPC spawning bug at Travelen’s Steading in Dredgehaunt cliffs. One of the brawling NPCs at the back had 20+ instances of itself spawned in the same location. When you challenge one, it activates all of them at the same time. The results….. just check the screen shot attached.

Defeating one of them will cause that single NPC to return to its start point, so its safe to say that they are all completely functional, but independent instances of that NPC/scripted loop.

As a side note, something like this would make a great Group event. Just have a massive brawl break out at a Moot.

Still missing the full error message. When it hits an error, it also provides a code in one of the corners of the window indicating what it saw.

But this may not be a direct hardware problem. Security suites are causing a lot of problems with this game, and the 6xx drivers are still kind of wonky.

you should pay close attention to see whats dropping. If its the wifi, you can fiddling with antenna placement, angle, or some of the operational setting. If its the router/access point rebooting….. then it starts getting complicated….

There are also a handfull of cheap security suite programs that have seizures when exposed to high volume UDP, and cause every IP connection to reset. And this is why I never trust any anti-virus provided by your ISP, because its the cheapest marketing garbage they could get away with.

Code 7 is a network/disconnect error. You can try running windows in Safemode /w networking to see if it’ll work around it (hinting at a software problem), or it could be server load if your patching during peak hours (after 3pm EST week nights and pretty much all of mid-friday through late sunday).

If you have an external harddrive, you can cheat a little by copying the entire game folder over to the other machine.

If your on a constantly full server, switch to another one. If your in it for the PvP, you’ll just have to tough it out until they work out a better load balancing solution.

Each server has finite amount of processing power and bandwidth behind it, so if you linger in zones with very high activity and running at full capacity, your gonna see problems.

Are you running any of the power saving profiles other then max performance? Theres already a known link between GW2 and bad reactions from dynamic CPU clocking/performance with the AMDs.

Since laptop power profiles are a lot more touchy with clocking and usage monitoring, increasing the load is forcing it to say fully clocked all the time and getting around that weird behavior.

The problem is closer to networking and the server’s ability to pass information to you in a timely fashion. Peak hours are the worst just because of the massive server and network load from all the players being on at once, and can become an exponential (mathematical) problem if a large number of players are clustered into a small area.

For the probable few that are in the Planetside Beta, you should get an idea of what I’m talking about.

Downloading gw2.dat

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

From what I understand the .dat is just a bulk archive(without compression), and the patcher should append, insert or modify the data segments that pertains to game files that need updating.

If the repair tool or patcher is starting from the beginning or constantly finding errors, its a good bet you either have bad memory or very low level malware. The bad segment is usually in the higher address space, only pops up when theres a large work load, and is one of the main reasons its not caught under most testing conditions.

As for the ARP services, that could be completely coincidental. If its a cheapy/crappy firewall program though, that wouldn’t surprise me as being the source…. poorly written security suites (almost all of the consumer grade programs fall into this) are the bane of my existence.

At any rate, theres no harm in disabling it for testing, unless your running something mission critical like a power grid and couldn’t be bothered to have at least a linksys between you and the modem.

As for the purpose of the tool, its a simple program that scans the archive (and files within) and checks it against a catalog of known checksums for each file. If it finds any type of discrepancy it makes a note of it and requests replacements from the server once its done scanning. It then downloads and replaces the bad files in the archive, usually rechecks them to verify, and then updates a cache index or some kind of manifest.

The cache index serves to speed up file verification when no client updates are pending. I’m assuming it simply checks with the server for a current version, then refers to the cache index and maybe checks basic file properties of the game files (avoiding a lengthy full scan). Because the time saving efforts of the cache, its not uncommon for file corruption to get past the patcher unless you initiate a full scan or it detects something wrong in the update routine.

tl;dr – you probably have a faulty stick of RAM.

Hardware usage drops in crowded zones along with fps

I’m wondering if this has to do with the data feed handling and interpolation since with more activity, it takes longer to send the information needed for one scene update.

I’ve been noticing this same trend in a couple other recent games I was beta testing for, and the idea that the main thread starts taking longer and having to wait on more data as the number of actors increases would make sense.

CPU temps might cause problems, but it would has shown in other games, especially BF3 (that thing murders hardware on high settings).

My first instinct says you have either old drivers, one of the beta drivers that are buggy with the game, or you might have a messed up SLI profile for the game. In any case, probe the forums a bit to see which beta driver is preferred at the moment, then use driver sweeper or driver cleaner to clear out the old ones before installing the new set.

Its the graphics drivers doing a soft reboot on the card. I’ve had my GTX590 do a on a few occasions during long play sessions or abnormally high levels of activity (WvWvW being a fast track to bug discovery).

No idea if this is specific to the drivers or not, but they’ve had issues with NV cards.

Game Keeps Auto-Repairing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

If you know your memory is bad thats your problem. Its gonna screw up the repair process anytime it hits that bad segment, and its never going to get out of it because it’ll never end with a correct hash value.

Obligatory brain damage example:
-Let say you can’t comprehend the number 22, and your counting jelly beans that need 50 per jar. Every time you reach 22, you realize something is wrong and have to double check your count to make sure you didn’t make mistake. After several attempts of this, you give up and think something must be wrong with the batch, throw it out, and start from scratch. That is kind of whats happening with the system when its doing a file check.

This, while not entirely accurate, is a lot funnier. http://xkcd.com/371/

Reinstall the game and manually change the install location to a folder in the SSD. If you want to save yourself time and effort, move the entire game folder to the new location first, then run the installer and point to it. If all goes well, the patcher will just scan the files, update the cache index, and start the game up.

How much will RAM affect FPS for CPU-heavy GW2?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

It depends on a few extra factors, but adding RAM doesn’t increase FPS in itself. It simply alleviates a problem of overusing what you currently have. Also make sure your running a 64-bit OS, or it’ll never see past 4GB anyway.
