Hello. Universal Soldiers [IMP] is a small Darkhaven guild. We’ve got about 10 members at the moment, but we’re aiming to grow. I don’t think we’re exactly what you’re looking for, but I’ll give you the basics and some contacts in case you’re interested.
We’re mostly casual, though some of us are more “srs bsns” than others. All of us have jobs, with varying degrees of involvement. We’re all located in USA, so we usually have at least one person on at all times, except late late night/early morning. Late afternoon/early evening is our busiest time (around the daily reset).
We’re PvE-focused. With our small memberlist, we don’t currently schedule dungeon runs, but if we have 3-5 people online, we usually organize something like Fractals. We’re all friendly and helpful, whether you’re looking for assistance or just advice. We do have guild bounties unlocked, and we hope to upgrade further when we can find more members. A couple of us enjoy WvW, so if you’re into it (or looking to learn), we’ll be happy to play with you.
If you want VOIP, we have a Vent server. We may not be the chattiest bunch, but like I said, we’re friendly and happy to meet new and potential members, whether you’re experienced or fresh!
I’m an officer, so if you have any interest, or just have questions, feel free to contact me. I’m out of town, so I won’t be online ingame until tomorrow night. If you want to talk directly to the boss, he’s Elayne Silverstorm.

<3 to PD and Faly. Warms my heart every time your crew pulls off the impossible like that.
By the way, if you were wondering, our alliance is still working on the best way to split the PPT at SM. I mean, obviously the goal is to work together to take it from SF, but the current mechanics don’t let us keep the WP when we gift it back and forth. We’ve heard from a number of you in our awesome secret meetings, but if you’re not present at those, we’d love to get your opinions.

If it was just IoJ vs SF you guys wouldn’t last and would get steam rolled hard. […] IoJ on the other hand.. well there’s not much to say there.
Good luck, you’ll need it.
Maybe IoJ (allegedly) only attacks SF because nobody from DH is calling them scrubs.
Or it could be the big secret alliance, yeah. When we’re ready to go public, it’s going to be called Darjanthirhaven. Anet even agreed to merge our servers.

I usually run a solo zerg (not in this photo though, hehe). If you spot me, I’m that roaming [DHE] thief doing my favorite thing to do…flip camps.
I do hop in zergs for safer travels often, then I break off to take another camp.
Light! I’ve enjoyed working with you when we cross paths. If you’re ever looking for a bit more muscle, feel free to throw me a party invite if you see me online. I’d enjoy tagging along on your adventures.

I got to play Saturday and Sunday before I left town, and I am super not-psyched to be sidelined for a week with all this going on. It looks like a whole lot of fun. (and no more kitten from certain sour DR apples!) On the bright side, it looks like we’ll get to keep this matchup for a while so I won’t miss the whole thing. SF’s rise to t6 means we won’t be hitting t5 soon, but that’s not necessarily such a bad thing.
Anyway, from the two nights I got to play, I had a few thoughts. First, it’s been a while since I’ve really felt pressured like that, and I like it. Over the weekend, we got pushed pretty hard and a number of people learned that “form the blob and run tower to tower” doesn’t solve every problem. Actually working with others and scrambling to stay ahead of the pressure is a great change of pace.
Second, there’s a female ele cmdr from SF out there sporting a mohawk. I don’t remember your guild tag, girl, but I liked your guts! I definitely hope to see you on the field again.
Third … Sunday night, I was there when SF was in our borderlands AND crushing us on EB. When you guys were building houses in our corner and blowing up our siege in our last two towers preparing to hit our keep, our cmdr was paying people to switch to their mesmer and port him in the jumping puzzle. How awesome is that?
Yeah, on second thought, maybe this vacation is good for me.

tl;dr: I’m looking for thoughts (with numbers, if possible) on the comparison between PTV and Knights gear for a warrior. My specific situation is that I’m considering a respec for WvW, but I’m interested in other aspects, too.
The whole story: My main is a warrior. I’m aware of some of the problems the class faces, but it suits my playstyle so I can usually shrug it off. I’ve been running a setup similar to this one (GS/rifle with 10/20/0/30/10, mix of knights/zerks) for a while now in PvE and I still love it. When I jump into WvW, I switch out OMM for Bulls Rush, and Empowered for Leg Spec, and I enjoy that, too. It’s great for smaller engagements and I can hold my own in a number of 1v1 situations. However, I do struggle to find my niche in large-scale fights. Plinking random targets with my rifle is no fun and not very useful. Diving through the enemy is sometimes good, but I tend to die more quickly than I’d like.
So, after some thought, I’ve decided that step one is to grab a longbow and a new set of armor. I’m leaning towards Knight stats because I have this dislike for the vit stat in GW2 (and I still want to do damage!), but I have been told that I should get PTV, so I’m here to look for more info/opinions. Please help!
Also, I’m considering trying a new hammer-focused trait build, but that’s probably another issue entirely.

Chicken or egg. DH is mad because DR players are saying we all suck and win purely through numbers. DR is mad because DH is saying we win through skill and numbers are a byproduct. Which came first? I don’t remember, and it doesn’t really matter. One provokes the other and we end up with this crappy circle of hate from everyone. I can’t be the only one here who is sick of seeing the same crap daily, so here’s an idea.
DH: We have superior numbers. Admit it.
DR: Numbers, while a significant advantage, are probably not the only reason DH is winning. Yes, coverage is huge. We know this! We lost to AR and BP for that same reason! DH has good players and bad players, same as every single server. Stop antagonizing.
This is hilarious, there’s like five of us holding the SW camp in DH, repeated attempts of equal number failed on their side. So, typical DH style, you attack five people with 20. I laughed as you killed me. sigh DH is so predictable.
This is exactly what I’m talking about. You think that crap will solve anything? The only possible response to this is anger. Thanks for contributing.
By the way, the amount of negative comments I’ve heard from IOJ people is far less than the amount I’ve heard from DR, and they’ve been playing with us for longer than you have. Something to think about.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
Now tell me, oh masters of allocating your numbers, why is a zerg of 35+ randomly running around EB when it’s entirely green? (literally, nothing was blue or red other than Danelon, because we had just capped it. You had a massive zerg uselessly ambushing camps in EB when everything on the map was green. Yeah, that’s skill right? No numbers at all, completely and entirely skillful and tactical DH!)
Okay, next time we finish taking EB, we’ll leave so you can have it back.
Seriously, I fail to see what your issue is here. Do you want us to figure out how many people you have with you and send an even-matched force while the rest watch how fast our new keep is upgrading? Is that “skilled” play? If there is ONE point on the map that is being contested, who wouldn’t send overwhelming force?
By the way, DH. Please do keep blitzing the living crap out of your other opponents after you have a super-comfortable point lead. It will put you in another tier where you will encounter servers that have more coverage than you do. Karma’s a kitten.
Um. Most of the DR posters here seem to want DH to move up to tier 5. Would you rather we stay with you? Because the only way we’re moving up is if we win by a higher margin than what we’ve got now. Some of you are upset we’re in your tier, some are upset we’re pushing the lead in an attempt to move up. You can’t have it both ways.
Irish: I have similar concerns. My only answer is that some of our commanders have better ideas than others, and if we move up a tier, hopefully our weaker commanders (and players, like me) will learn quickly.

Wait, what? What “Bulk of forces” last night? We had at most 30 in EB total IN NA PRIME TIME. Since you forgot your screeny, no worries, I included one for you in my post above from last night in EB. That “Bulk of Forces” has outmanned. Maybe “Bulk of Forces” is anything more than 5 to you?
“But since they never do that, I guess I’m just lying again. " Your words, not mine.
“Bulk of forces” in no way implies that you had more than us, nor does it imply a specific number. It simply means that the majority of your players on EB were at the keep (maybe all of them). I’m aware we had more people than you and have never said otherwise. I’m not online constantly, but it seems to me we always have equal or greater numbers than either DR or IOJ on EB. Though I do want to mention that IOJ routinely outmans us during weekday morning hours.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
Sorry, I forgot you’re just trolling. I’ll just make weird faces instead of trying with the logic. >;u
DH never zergs! (except when we do) Numbers are a crutch! Real men only play solo! Any of the boys here want to drop their pants and measure?
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
After the AD folks I saw last night holding the choke point on EB got overrun (they did put up a good fight first against superior numbers; I saw far too many DH corpses before I jumped in from the ledge above), some of them went to defend their keep in the middle of the bulk of DR’s forces. But since they never do that, I guess I’m just lying again. Oh, and I forgot screenies again! Ugh.
It’s a good thing we have PD and Grim. Otherwise all of these forum threads would just be a bunch of DH folks saying “ook ook grrrrrr.”
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
DH lost to AR and BP. AR and BP are losing to EB. Thus, DH would lose to EB. Not because they suck or anything like that but because of population and coverage issues.
I was on Borlis during the BP/AR/DH matchup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryAO8Zmv4ag

That post either had a lot of meandering that I couldn’t keep up with, or you’re somehow connecting DH players with the rating system and the spybot. I don’t think we have much control over either of those, to be honest.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
It’s okay, I’m pretty sure I saw a few [AD] folks in EB tonight. I say “pretty sure” because they died so quick that I can’t be positive, but I’m sure that was just to keep us from quitting out of sheer frustration. Or maybe we just threw four zergs at you. I don’t do a lot of thinking, being just another one of those hive-mind DH lings.
note to self: Start taking screenshots every time I kill someone. Makes for a much better forum post! This one lacked impact.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
It is not meant as an insult, but what that guys says in my chat box is kinda truth… you did lose.
See you at the reset.
For what it’s worth, I was talking to the “dance battle” guy. He got shot by a ballista and ran back to the siege line.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
Well, I at least would have politely waved back at you, except in my culture, politely waving involved charging at someone before spinning in circles to cut up as many people, with a formal introduction involving use of a very large hammer and…
I’m sure you’ll forgive any misunderstandings. :b
I think we come from the same culture. Small world.

Oozo: I’ve watched a number of your movies and I respect the strategies your group uses and the skills of your individual players. But your forum arguments have left me shaking my head. I’ve seen you telling people that beating your squad 40v15 is not cool, and I’ve also seen you say that when your squad gets too many hangers-on, you hit a random WP to lose them. If you’re going to limit your own numbers by choice, that’s fine, but then arguing when we don’t do that is kind of silly.
Related note: You’re in a dedicated WvW guild with members who are experienced and work together well. For the majority of us who are NOT in guilds like that, we will never ever be able to match you in a 1:1 fight. You could get 15 pubbers with Twilights and they will lose easily to your 15 if they’re not on Vent/TS and have limited experience together. Is it my fault that I’m not in an exclusive WvW clan? No. Nor is it my fault if I choose to run with a group that is larger than yours sometimes.

I’m quickly building a lot of respect for you IoJ guys. Class acts.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
Hahaha, thanks DH for the tombstone. After trying to sneak into your hills and failing, I stuck around even though no one was left alive inside.
Regards and props to you. I found myself chasing you fruitlessly many times that night. Laughed my kitten off when my asura friend dropped a ram on you.

torridstoic us kaineng/dr players have been everywhere pretty much so we know how bad or good it is and where. So chill :P and just play the game guise. There is always gona be a winner and a loser so there is no point in fighting each other for the same issues in every tier thread.
That was basically my point, but it seems Gab is trying to pick a fight with every person who has posted in this thread. I made a civil post and was called a moron.
Every person here is probably better, and definitely more experienced, than I am at WvW. I spend a lot of time lying on the ground. But I do understand basic game mechanics, and I’ve had experience in a lot of other games with similarities. If you don’t like following the game “success” guidelines (nothing wrong with that) and have a problem with everyone who plays the game differently than you do (might be a problem), maybe you’re playing the wrong game.
edit: On another note, anyone at that threeway battle at IoJ BL Bluelake tonight, that was a great fight. Cheers.

and there is nothing gained or lost depending ono the outcome of the week.
Well ... you could say that if you tried harder for points, your score would go up and you might rise a tier or two instead of dropping to tier 6. Then instead of being upset at Darkhaven zergs you could be fighting all those super-amazing-awesome squads in Blackgate or Rall.
Do you think the zergs are small and far between in the upper tiers? Have you even faced Kaineng? Maguuma? This must be the dumbest post in this thread, just wow. I welcome tier drops. Tier 7 would be even better.
*rolls eyes* Okay then. Far be it from me to intrude on your rock-solid worldview. And good news! Keep this up and you’ll hit tier 7 in a couple weeks. Lucky.

If youre new to pvp the siege/score can be fun for a bit. But PvDooring and zerging people down loses its luster along with the static encounters involved in the whole process.
I know I’m new (to gw2 wvw), but large group combat is really in no way less dynamic than 1v1. I would argue that the process of working with other people (some who you have never seen before and can’t easily communicate with) only adds variety to the encounter. Zergs are simply actions that provoke reactions from the enemy. You can scout their target and fortify, you can mobilize your own zerg, you can split your force and hit their camps/towers in response, or you can come on the forums and kitten about it. So far, I’ve seen all four of those options taken (and some more). I understand why some people may not like zergs, but a skilled group can easily punish an enemy for overusing them.
Golemhaven [Van] – mesmer | guardian
First … what’s the point of all this arguing? People complaining that others are playing to win is ridiculous. Nobody wants this game to be not-fun for you, but if your only definition of fun runs completely counter to the objective of the game, then there are going to be times when that fun is hard to find. You can either persevere or reevaluate, but complaining at people whose goals are more in-line with the points system is not really a valid solution.
I’m a relatively new WvW player (from PvE… I’m not a PvP guy), and I just wanted to say I’ve been having a bunch of fun. I’ve done some zerging, some smaller squad combat, and a little bit of solo roaming (read: dieing), but mostly I’m just learning and enjoying the experience. Being laughed at or teabagged is not fun. If I win a fight against a persistent enemy or see someone impress me, I always try to bow or salute. And to the DH guys I’ve been running around with, thanks for putting up with me!
Was just trying to give you guys a good defense at NW tower in DR BL….but DH just wasn’t having it; not this night.
Suddenly people start coming in while gates & walls are still up. Sorry, couldn’t get very good pictures or a video because it all happened so fast.
Picture 1: Warrior is the first to no-clip into the tower.
Picture 2: Same warrior has to back off because me and the NPCs are wailing on her.
Picture 3, 4 & 5: Mesmer dropped a portal that has the rest of their forces come in.
Picture 6: Rofl.
Ohh, oooh, pick me! I was that warrior. I have no idea how it happened, either. I whirled through your gate, did a double-take, and then started screaming. Somehow I got back out with my next whirl. Then someone else clipped through and said you guys were “pulling us” through, and then our mesmer got pulled in and dropped a portal. Game over tower. Sorry.
