I really enjoyed the first 8 hours of this new match up. Lots of big fights with all 3 servers and it was fairly even. Definitely a big improvement over the 24-hour BG zerg fest that we had last match.
Unfortunately the first off peak cycle seems to suggest that TC is fielding more off peak players than FA and DB combined. If this is an indication of how this match will be (even during peak, completely unbalanced in off peak) it’s going to be a little disappointing after such a promising start.

Just a screenshot of SoS’ awesome gameplay today.
FA had only 10 people at this time period in EB and we must’ve been too much for SoS because they put up 3 arrow carts and 3 ballistas at the spawn. That probably wasn’t enough to hold back 10 people at spawn, so they also had 2 trebs firing at spawn. GG guys.

Thief is by far the most annoying.
Mesmers are an easy second, but still no way near as annoying as thieves.
(And this coming from someone who’s current main is a thief).

FA hacked the orb… again…
I dont blame those FA players, I blame the game.
also, good fight before our primetime, 1pm EST US and we control the whole map? gj
That’s not a hack at all. It’s a bug in the game that none of us have any control over.

Do you honestly think a d/d elementalist using stone shards can take on 4 players and either win or escape?
If you do then you’ve never played an elementalist. Thieves on the other hand can either win or, at worst, very often escape. I’ve never once escaped a 1 vs 4 situation with my elementalist. My thief does it all the time.
If you’ve only played a thief you don’t understand how much easier they are compared to other classes.
You’re talking 1vs1 in tournament style play where both classes are optimised for that mode of play. In most WvW games (and this is the WvW subforum) you don’t gear yourself for 1vs1 (eg, most elementalists use staff in WvW, not d/d, and saying they should use d/d just to counter thieves indicates how broken thieves are if classes have to spec specifically to counter one class in a WvW game).

Anvil rocks whole problem is they have a couple of guilds who always want to be in charge.
I was on AR during the first part of the 24 hr matches and I left solely because of what the above poster said. Guilds like ANV ruined the WvW experience on AR by acting like arrogant brats with rude attitudes.
Any time Anvil Rock took something you’d hear someone from ANV bragging about how ANV had done all the work. Worse, some of the ANV players would aggressively insult people who didn’t go along with anything their guild did. I know of at least 4 people who left AR during the 24 hr match period because they got sick of that guild taking the fun out of WvW .

Stealth itself is ok and high damage is ok. But combined it’s too much.
Stealth, sneak up to victim unseen, then Cloak & Dagger -> steal (with mug trait) -> assassin’s signet -> backstab. This combo alone easily does 20k+ damage as an opener. A really well geared elementalist might have 18k hp.
Thieves using stealth can essentially choose when to start a fight and allowing them to open with this kind of damage is virtually game breaking to other classes.
Thief is the easiest class to do well with. It is easy mode, I never die.
Absolutely agree with this. The thief is by far the easiest class to play in terms of survival. My thief has less hp than my other characters but is far easier to survive with, especially in Solo vs Groups. I’ve never survived a 1vs4 with my elementalist, but I do it all the time with my thief (may not kill them but I don’t die either).

Hm I observed a Dolyak once, passing by one veteran mob and surviving, because of its really big hit point pool, I’m surprised to hear that there are mobs that actually pose a danger to them.
Follow an unescorted dolyak from Speldons to Anzalias Pass in EB. They’ll often die due to random mobs attacking them (harpies are the ones I’ve seen killing them the fastest).
FA – Protectorate of Aspenwood [PRO]
There’s one good reason to upgrade the dolyak with guards — the guards kill/stop random mobs on the dolyak’s path from killing the dolyak (eg, bats in Pangloss, harpies at Speldon, etc). Without the guard upgrade you’ll often find unescorted yaks being killed by aggro mobs on its route to your team’s keeps and towers.

I’m happy to see that the match seems to have picked up pace again. For a while yesterday it seemed like SoS and Maguuma had just given up, but last night I was seeing some great fighting from both sides.
I’m particularly impressed with Maguuma’s spirit in this match. Despite being considerably lower in points they are still putting in one hell of a fight.

Which gear scales better in WvW - low rare gear, or high lvl green/blue?
in WvW
Posted by: wombat.6123
Stats from gear definitely scale up. For example, a+1% crit dam bonus on my level 30 gear was giving me +4% actual bonus in stats.
However the overall scaling for low level gear doesn’t make it as good as the equivalent gear at higher level (ie, rare level 35 gear isn’t as good as rare level 50 gear). Using rares at level 35 my thief was only getting 1k dam on cluster bombs. At level 50 he was getting almost 2k dam.

This match kicked off to a great start over the weekend with some great fights and close scores.
Even last night (Australian time) SoS had almost every borderland map and FA was fighting hard in EB to retain SMC. I logged off after fighting hard to keep SMC in our hands but expected to see it in SoS hands when I got up this morning.
Instead, when I got up this morning I found FA now holds almost 100% of the maps. It’s like SoS and Maguuma just gave up overnight. It’s really disappointing as the match started out so well on the weekend.
Like others have said, we have a match where two servers have opposite peak times and a third server that has to contend constantly with whichever server is currently in its peak period. I’m a bit disappointed as we still have 4 days left in this match and it’s looking like it’s pretty much over already.

Servers are currently matched based on their previous week’s performance. And let’s be honest, a very large factor in a world’s performance in WvW is based on its population.
With players constantly transferring to higher ranked servers it disrupts whatever balancing is supposed to occur via matching up based on weekly performance.
When transferring servers a player should be restricted from playing WvW until the current weekly match is finished. (Or at worst, allow people transferring to lower ranked servers to play that week, but not those tranfering to higher ranked servers).

Fort Aspenwood had one commander sitting AFK in Eternal BG at Mendon’s Gap for about an hour two days ago. He kept his commander tag on, of course, and people were running there thinking something was going down. Awesome stuff.

I’m averaging about 1 badge for every 6 kills. However this ratio isn’t exact because:
(a) I also get badges for killing objective NPCs and reviving players — I’ve noticed that if I revive someone and get hit by other players I often get a badge.
(b) I’m pretty sure I miss a lot of badges because I’m always moving and often miss loot bags.
I haven’t noticed much change in my ratio of badges-to-kills since I started playing WvW. It’s remain more or less the same the entire time.
FA – Protectorate of Aspenwood [PRO]
WvW kills don’t mean much as you only need to contribute a small amount of damage to a player to have it counted. I have a lot less kills than you (only just about to go tier 5) but I have more Total Points than you (your screenshot shows you have only 924).
I may be wrong, but your score seems to indicate you’ve focused too much on personal PvP (via AoE during mass battles) and not enough on strategic WvW objectives.
FA – Protectorate of Aspenwood [PRO]
I’ve started levelling up a new character almost purely via WvW. Only level 10 now and obviously very ineffective in battle (no traits and you can’t even get a full set of gear at level 10). So I tend to do lots of supply runs and build siege for my team whilst throwing in some damage while defending or attacking. Between these I get enough xp to level at about the same pace as I would doing PvE.
The main problem with playing a low level is you lack traits and skills for breaking out of cc, so it’s hard to stay alive once you get focused by the enemy.

I think OP maybe referring to the actual defensive siege you get from upgrades? Like Cannons, Oil and Mortars. If he is, then he is correct, they can be taken out extremely fast. Saying “position” is key is irrelevant for these as you cannot place their location.
I don’t think he’s refering to the upgrades because he specifically talks about “where on the wall you place them”.
FA – Protectorate of Aspenwood [PRO]
Most towers, and all keeps, have spots you can place defensive siege which is out of range for aoe attackers. You don’t get optimal coverage but you can still hit attackers close to the structure and, importantly, remain out of enemy range.
Arrow carts, catapults and ballistas all have much longer range than player aoe attacks. You are probably having trouble positioning them out of aoe range because you are always trying to give them optimal coverage of the battlefield.
