Did you ever used the spirits in the last time? The passive buff remains even after the spirit died, as long as the dead corpse lies on the ground. Cast your spirit near the opponent, use your active skill and your passive buff last until you only have 4 seconds left to cast the spirit again. Means even with a dead spirit you get 16 of 20 seconds buff-uptime.(Or maybe 16 of 22 seconds if you add the casttime for your second spirit.) Sunspirit is awesome in a condition build in tpvp. I have discovered that the sunspirit buff have an internal cooldown about 5 seconds until you can again cause burning. Thats the only restriction with a bitter taste while using sunspirit. I did not test it, but it should be similiar to the other spirits.

Why are no rangers in word finals?^^
For the longbow-ranger: We dont have enough stealth compared to thief and
mesmer. Also we cannot use portskills

For survival rangers: We cannot stack enough might to use celestial Amulett reasonable.
Our shouts combined with soldierrune are weaker than warrior- or
guardbuilds when it comes to condiremove for our group.

But some positiv things: We have even without portskills a good mobility and are one
of the best classes when it comes to 1v1 fights on sidenotes.
The Problem is that this is not enough for a team match. Now
we also got some strong cc`s with beastly warden and wolf f2.

Most people cry about our pets and that they dont need much skill to be effective. If they come to higher tier they would notice that its require some experience to command and position our pet to deal with experienced opponents. Speaking about canceling wolfleap, petchange only close to the enemy, calling back pet if its going rampage miles away from us instead of fighting at our side.^^ A good ranger must also be a good tamer. And the pet really need some training and good advice from their ranger.

[PvP build] Spirit Ranger

I have tested your build and it was pretty much fun in hotjoin and also in some unranked matches. Its awesome on bigger points like graveyard on foefire and reminds me a bit of turret engi in his way of playing it. The different is, that you have to choose, if you destroy your spirit or let them live, but this depends on the situation. Groupfights to let them live, small-scale fights to shatter them instantly. The burning burst is awesome and it is in a league with the burstburning guard.

Survivability comes from the weaponset with many dodges, but this is something we knew already from condiranger, who makes use of it for a long time. This makes it really comfortable for me, who is used to play condiranger most of the time.

My biggest problem was the lack of condiremove and reliable stunbreakers. The elitespirit is nice, but its to slow in providing condiremove or the ability to ressing other people. Also i dont get the stability when i need it.

The healingspring is for now really broken. If you got time, you can lay down from two to four springs and make a huge waterfield, but when did you really get them time in combatsituations. Maybe its good, if you can coordinate it with explofinishers from your team to get a huge healing burst. Without this, the amount of healing is too small and the fact, that you have to lay down the healingspring, go out of it and then reenter it to get the healing is the biggest issue.

The best idea, that you bring with this build, is that you shatter the spirits instantly. If iam right you choose rune of pirate and the pet to get three minions, who also get the buff from sunspirit in 1v1 fights. This would make only with the passive 8 burning, 11 with active and16 with all torchskills. Otherwise you dont get any use of these minions, if you fight in teamfights since the passive buff is limited to five people. Due to its i dropped them and used wolf again. Fear can be a much stronger support in teamfights to prevent incoming damage, to stop stomps on your teammates and resses on your opponents.

In the end, i have combined the sunspirit, with your idea of using him more active, in my actual build. Its suites very well and the results in 1v1, 1v2 and large teamfights were very good. Sunspirits buff makes the teamburst and also your own condiburst even stronger. The bird is necassary against eles with diamond skin. Thanks for your thoughts and your build. Even if its just make me change only one skill and one trait, it makes a huge different and improved my build alot.

And before you mentioned it. The spirittrait is important also for one spirit! You need the increased buffrange and more than that the doubled spirit hp to get some use of the active. Otherwise the spirit would die too fast.

Agree that Rsounding Timbre dont look too strong together with We Heal as One.
I used Troll Urgent before, but its not to good in the current meta. Heal as One is better against bustdamage and low life situations (in my opinion). I dont miss the blind too much. Otherwise the increased speedbuff saved me in many situations.

About Condi: Most of its Condidamage, that really hit the enemy comes from Dagger 5, Torch4 and Sigill of Geomancy. Bonfire helps to controll the movment of your opponent, force them to dodge, and then get him with taunt or muddy terrain. To land some burning it is sometime also good to use leapfinisher to get the fireshield.

And about the synergy with Allies Aid: Resounding Timbre affect Allies Aid with reduced CD and also with Speed and Regenerationbuff. Means, that it improve the rezz-ability in many ways. Speedress and than speed to get out of the situation.

About trap ranger: The burst of condition is amazing, but is also a big weakness against necros with condi transfer. Thats why i also stopped using traps in ranked matches. And if i know, that my opponent is a trap- ranger, i simple send my pets first to activate the first traps and then swap my pet.
About the other build: I also thought about some shout-ranger and will try your version. I think i understand, why you choose drake over wolf, but iam not sure, if the mightstacks are worth loosing the aoe fear. Otherwise without a good amount of might, the celestial amulett would not work. And also “protect me” need some tanky pet like drake, if it not shall die in an instant. Not a easy decision.

Im running for now a variant of the standard settler ranger to get atleast some support, combined with good mobility and the potential to fight on point.

“Resounding Timbre” combined with “We heal as one” is good at the beginning for some speed, but also add some regeneration the whole time for you and your team.

“Protective Ward” is strong, but i think, that i got more than enough protection from “Companions Defense”. Because of that i choose “invigorating bond”. It add some more healing for me and my teammates.

“Allies Aid” together with “Quickening zephyr” is a great combination to instant res allies in downstate. Because of Fortifying Bond, the pet also resvive your teammate faster. (Player-res-speed 160% + Pet-res-speed 150%)

Good mobility with sword 2 and Lightning reflexes. This saves me, after fighting 1v2 for some seconds to buy some time for my teammates. You can also add “Quickening zephyr” after this combination to roam between the points. Not as good as classes with portskills, but its ok.

Good condition remove for yourself.

Kraitrune helps to cover the immobilize with bleeding, torment and poison.

“Vigorous Training” over “Evasive Purity”. I know that vigor is not the strongest boon, but it saved maybe some comrades in longer fights, because they could dodge one or two times more. “Evasive Purity” is strong, but this build offers more than enough condition remove even without it.

“Beastly Warden” and Wolf-aoe fear for interrupts while stomping or rezzing.

contra

Missing aoe condiremove from shouts combined with soldierrune.
No stability for safestomping.
Lacks aoe dmg even with entangle and bonfire. Only made for small scale fights. Big teamfights are troublesome.
Lack of portskills to get fast on higher ground.

I see some problems with your build, that i also tested a few months ago. The last patch did not change them.

1. Pet ai is really bad. Experienced players are able to prevent hits from our pet by simple moving around. Your build has no immobilze to counter that.
To score a hit when i need it, i have to swap my pet in the moment im standing right to my opponent. But then you loose the mightstacks on the pet.

2. You need dodgeskills on every weaponset. What will you do, if the opponent starts his burst right in the moment you have changed to axe/warhorn. Otherwise you need to maintain pressure while in fights. While in sword/ dagger you cannot buff your pet or deal damage yourself. For this reason condi-builds mix offensive and defensive weapons everytime together. For example axe/dagger and sword/torch. If we use your set up i would recommend axe/dagger and sword/horn. It will make a difference even when i think, that this build will only work in low tier matches.
But dont stop testing builds. We need more build-diversity.

Why Ranger isn't getting buffs

Lets make it short. The OP doesnt know anything about rangers and the PvP Meta in tournaments. Otherwise he would have mentioned that there are no rangers in most of the sucessfull teams. Probably he is only playing in hotjoin or in low tier rank matches, where ppl. cannot dodge a simple rapidfire.

And when i read the summary of xdudisx i can only laugh.

1. Might on axe a buff. Show me a beastmaster, who can make the might reliable for the pet. The might, the rangers get, is to low and axedmg is really bad. A bird with 25 stacks might is possible and the aa is pretty nice, but a good opponent can avoid it easily by simply moving around. What did i get from a pet, that can hit like a truck, but never can hit an experienced opponent.

2. Dc reduce on shouts? It was not good enough to bring some viable shoutbuilds into pvp. Or do you know shoutbuild in tournaments. Oh wait, did i mentioned, that only one or two ppl. playing successfull tournament pvp with ranger as their mainclass.

3. dc reduce on warhorn? Even with this change most of the pvp-rangers would never use warhorn. Warhorn is made for direct damage and ppl would alway prefer gs before warhorn.

4. countless traitbuffs? Show me a class, who did not get "countless"buffs in the recent patches. In the end, many other classes got buffed even more. The only strong new trait, that comes to my mind, is beastly warden.

5. signet buff? Signet of Stone would loose everytime, if you would compare it with similiar skills like the stances on warrior. Signet of renewal kills your pet instantly. Signet of the wild with his stability is nothing to the access of stability from Guardians and warriors. Or mistform and Elixier s from ele and engi. Or distortion from mesmer.

6. longbowbuff? Come on, you cannot dodge rapidfire, really? Range is nice, but the only map, that is usfull for that is foefire and maybe temple.

The only things, that can be called buffs, are entangle and gs dmg buff.

Avoid condition damage? Then lets delete all condition amuletts as an result of it. I play condi ranger and ist possible to get through the 90% by using my raven. But i also cannot understand why they made a trait, that can negate some sort of dmg completly without any real requirement. I got a trait as ranger that similiar only works above 90% health, but it only reduce dmg by 33%(+ extra 33% while using protection), not 100%! If thats the way balancing should work, than some classes should get traits, that negate 100% of direct damage while above 90%. Would be fair enough. (irony off).

I dont think that our condition remove is too bad. There are classes like ele or warrior, who got some easier access to condion remove, but also classes, who have to struggle more with conditions like for example mesmer or engis.
If you want condition remove, than you have to choose between the passiv emphatic bond or the more active wildernessknowledge. I would recommend wilderness knowledge over emphatic bond. It gives you a better control while your fighting against condispecs.Why wilderness knowledge? Emphatic bond got two problems. First is that your condiremove triggers only by chance every 10 seconds, not when you really need it. It cannot set apart, when conditions are problematic for you in the first situation, for example from an opponent with condi spec, and when you can let them stay on you because the conditiondamge of an berserker is very low in the second situation.
Second is the fact, that your pet dies too fast, because it has to take your conditions. And you need your pet alive for your cc`s. Wolf with his fear for example. And for now with beastly warden, you got even more cc`s with every other pet. A dead pet means that you loose some important cc.

Some things are also important, if you want to survive in pvp. As an longbow ranger it makes a differents, if you know how to choose the right position( high ground etc.)
As an conditions ranger in melee range is it important to use dodges to prevent incoming damage, both direct damage aswell as condition damage. And rangers have a very good access to dodges.
I enjoy condispecs, so here is my build, that works good in middle tier matches. I dont want to claim, that it works without problems in high tier matches, but thats not only a problem of the rangerclass, but rather a problem of conditionspecs per se.

You can swap “we heal as one” together with the trait “resounding timbre” for “troll unguent” with the trait “go for the eyes”. First is my try to add some more mobility and at least a bit more group support. Second is more focused on 1v1s`s.

Also you can swap the rune of balthasar to krait. Krait offers some conditions, to cover the immobilize of entangle, while balthasar increases the burning dmg significant. Its up to your decision.

Sorry for my expandable knowledge of english. I´m not a native Speaker, but i hope, that you can understand it more or less.

How are your fairing against Engineers?

I agree with the others. Conditions make it possible to deafeat even turret engis. I start with signal of wilderness for some stability. Without it many engineers would start to knock you back. The stabilty-uptime is more than enough to get the engineer to 20 % hp with a ton of bleeding, burning and poison stacks. Entangle and muddy terrain help you to hit with all of your conditions. Also i use my pet (bird) to destroy the rocket launcher turret, while i attack the engineer.

Thats my beastmasterbuild for PvP. It is not the best Teambuild, but Entangle and the fear of the wolf can save teammates, before they got stomped. With this build. you should focus on 1v1 and 2v2 fights, that happends more often while you are fighting at the sidepoints.

Next problem is the function of quickness while stomping. You may see, that your rangers stompanimation is faster, but it will not effect the real stomptime. I dont know, if it is a bug, but the stomp itself takes the same time, as it would be without quickness. The differents between stompanimation while using quickness and the stomp itself is about one second. So only the animation is faster. For example if you are interupted after the stompanimation, while the real stomptime is not over, your stomp can still fail. This happends against every player. For some reason, stompanimationtime and real stomptime (while using quickness) are only same against the npcs in the heart of the mist.

- especially the dog is important to land a hit, because he use his knockbackskill right
after he got swapped. His damage will not reach the raven, but ist acceptable.

About your role in conquest-tpvp with both builds

- Sidepointholder
- high mobility, if you can use the second sword skill well, so roaming could be possible
with some experience
- very good in 1v1 and 2v2
- not perfect for large teamfights because you cannot serve your team
with many aoe`s and cc`s
- you are a good against many pointholderbuilds
(for example: bunkerguardian, turret- engi and with some experience also cele- ele)
- you are countered by heavy spikedmgbuilds, especially when it comes to 1v2
