Post April 15 feedback on build:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-so-FF;0NKVO0Y4JL-60;9;6TT9;418C16B3;02GmFa;1ZF18ZF189cS

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Even after the April 15 patch, this condition support build was not nerfed; not only that, it was buffed!

Changes to the build:

- With Settler’s Amulet, Healing Signet nerfs are negligible. In fact, the healing signet now heals equivalent to pre-nerf signet on builds that didn’t use Settler’s (like Hambow).

- Impale has been changed to become a more bursty condition attack, as the torment stacks ramp up to maximum within only 4 seconds.

- Shake it Off and Shrug it Off both activate Rousing Resilience now, which gives +1000 toughness that also scales with stat conversion traits and runes. Basically, Shake it Off and Shrug it Off act as free Endure Pains when timed correctly. Fast Hands was removed in place for Rousing Resilience.

- Sigil of Renewal has a 0.4 healing ratio, meaning it scales heavily with heal stat. It gives a very significant chunk of sustained healing for the whole team. Sigil of Water was changed to be on-hit instead of on-crit, meaning it is actually usable in this build now. Sigil of Water amplifies the supplemental healing effect of Sigil of Renewal.

That’s it. Those are the only real changes. Everything else is the same/better. All of the great things about this condition support build are here to stay.

Happy pvping.

Rousing Resilience trait

in Warrior

zone.1073

Rousing Resilience is basically an Endure Pain. +1000 toughness mitigates a lot of damage. It feels like you’re invincible while it’s up.

Rousing Resilience activates when you break out of not just stuns, but also knock backs, knock downs, fears, and pulls.

Rousing Resilience is great for players that do not want to carry around Endure Pain utility. It frees up utility skills, and in some ways it is superior to Endure Pain because the +1000 toughness scales with stat conversion traits and runes (10% of toughness is converted to power, etc).

Rousing Resilience works great with the Shake it Off shout, because that shout is a 20 second cooldown when traited = the shortest cooldown stun break in the entire game. Shake it Off basically makes Rousing Resilience into a 4 second Endure Pain every 20 seconds.

If not, people can still just hop into someone else’s 8v8 custom arena and never improve.

U miss the point. It is not benefit. It is huge problem. If u can run from 1 side of the map to another side of the map in few seconds> map is just to small for a deathmatch. Lets make it more clear. This arena is more like a cage fight for duels.

I’m not sure I understand your reasoning for posting this thread. You post this thread asking for others’ opinions, but instead you’re just shooting down anyone who thinks differently, even if valid points are brought up.

In that case, I suspect this is more of a rage / l2p issue.

When fighting mesmers, thieves, eles, or anyone with a blink or long-ranged dash, the map feels enormous.

There are so many places to shadowstep and blink to. The warrior’s greatsword Rush traverses across the entire map literally. At that point, players can escape really easily by weaving through the maze of little tunnels and turns. When 5 experienced players are fighting against 5 other experienced players, the map size feels appropriate.

When zergs fight zergs and everyone’s zerging each other in custom arenas without coordination, though, of course it will feel claustrophobic. You get zerged and your teammates don’t support you to relieve pressure, etc. Suddenly the map feels tiny when that happens.

Do you realise it's still hard to get Dragon?

Players that play the game for over 4 hours a day = getting Dragon is easier than ever before.

Players who have jobs, families, in-person friends and obligations, and who live in a place called reality (90% of GW2 player base), now have realistic pvp goals and achievement milestones.

I don’t see a problem here. Rank is just a status measurement that helps with networking with other players. Competitive PvPers who are looking to get into a team will have a better chance of meeting other like-minded players and establishing these connections if they are more recognizable and well-known — rank is a beginning step to help achieve this status. When you try and stream, for example…nobody wants to watch the rank 12 play hot joins all day. Your chances of gaining viewers are much higher when you’re a rank 80 Dragon playing competitive tournament matches. This is now a realistic goal for people, no longer reserved to the elitist top 0.1%.

tl;dr Elitists, get off your throne and quit sobbing.

You don’t lose your queen because your opponent did a good move, you’re losing your queen because it has never been there in the pack, so you’re agreeing to play against a player with one piece less and pretending it’s fair.

It isn’t.

A game of Chess starting with no queens is not Chess. Likewise, a 4v4 is not what team arenas are supposed to be.

The competitive format must stay 5v5, and a surrender vote option must be implemented as the alternative to playing anything different from 5v5.

Coolest thing Just happened.

in PvP

Posted by: zone.1073

zone.1073

While purposefully making the match into a 4v4 sounds fair and reasonable, it would diminish the competitiveness of pvp. It’s like playing a game of Chess and agreeing with your opponent at the start, “Hey let’s both toss out our queens! It’ll be fun!” Sure it’s an “equal trade” but it cheapens the competitiveness of the game.

By design, the games are supposed to be 5v5s. Everything about structured pvp is designed with 5v5 in mind – the layout of the map, the secondary objectives, class balance, everything. By building the possibility of 4v4s into the infrastructure of the game, it opens the game into a less competitive, more casual direction. We already have this casual option: it’s called custom arenas, and WvW.

Therefore, in the event there is a 4v5, the next best option is to implement a surrender vote. When you lose your queen in Chess, no one should ever expect for the opponent to purposefully give up their own queen in the name of balance. The only other alternative is to play it through, or surrender. Right now, we do not have a surrender vote option, and this is unacceptable in a supposedly competitive pvp game. A game like League of Legends, where players compete for millions of $US dollars in cash prizes every year, has a surrender vote option even in tournament matches. Why shouldn’t we?

How to dominate PvP as warrior: Shouts.

If you ever tried to get close to me with sword MH burst… that’d be a mistake.

It is never a mistake for this build to gap-close on anyone, and this build accelerates with that due to having an 8 second cooldown leap and permanent cripple, plus a 4 second spammable immobilize, and a 3 second immobilize. This build has almost the highest toughness possible in the entire game, which allows the warrior to make plays without worrying about survival like glass cannons have to.

I think that’s why I enjoy this build more than glass cannon berserker builds. When playing glass cannon, I find myself worrying more about surviving in team fights rather than comfortably playing out the situation exactly as I see fit. Instead of worrying about running away and kiting all the time, I’m the one that’s making my opponents run and try to kite me.

Power builds are more fun, tho. Except hambow.

I like conditions because unlike power builds, conditions bypass protection and armor and deal true damage that cannot be mitigated by blocks, blinds, or evades. High cooldown skills can be fizzled by well-timed blocks, blinds, and evades, but that’s the beauty of conditions: most high damage condition skills are on very low cooldowns; for example, the highest damage source from this build (combustive shot) is on an 8 second cooldown.

Of course there is a place in the meta for power builds to supplement conditions and vice versa. A mixture of different kinds of damage makes the best combination, and that’s why running 2 warriors on a team can be so effective.

^^

In case you were confused, the damage from this build is mainly from burning and torment, while the bleeds from swords are bursty due to their short durations; I rarely auto attack with sword, as I’d rather just switch to bow and put on an instant 6 second burn on the target with fan of fire. Glass cannon berserker classes do burst attacks of 3k-5k crits, yes? That’s considered strong damage, yes? My build’s burning ticks do almost 700 damage per tick, and if you play well, you can keep your opponent permanently burning. Just from a theoretical viewpoint, you can already see the damage potential of this build.

10 seconds of burning from combustive shot, plus 6 seconds of burning from melee range fan of fire, and each autoattack from longbow = 2 seconds of burning through a fire field.

You can theorycraft all you want, but the results speak for themselves. Play some tournament PvP and you’ll most likely run into this build due to its consistent, no flashy no nonsense, straightforward kill machine + support potential.

I tend to 1v1 a lot with buddies to test out new builds and this one made them all rage, I switched out FGJ for DS since I can’t stand not having stability but otherwise I was keeping up in damage easily and didn’t even really have to dodge roll conditanks op. I know you label it as a “support” build but really I wasn’t helping people much even when I saved my shouts for other people I didn’t help them much.

I find it tolerable not to have personal stability, because I’m ok with having a guardian giving me stability, or a thief setting up a blinding field for an easy execution. Giving up 1 out of your 4 shouts is basically a 25% reduction in effectiveness of the shouts build.

This build might become slightly OP with the addition of the new traits in the upcoming patch, though. The new defense grandmaster trait will give 1000 toughness on stunbreak for 4 seconds; this build has access to the shortest cooldown stunbreaker in the entire game, twice….TWICE. That’s going to be absurd. That’s basically two free Endure Pains, without actually having to sacrifice traits or utilities to get Endure Pain, plus the added toughness will scale with stat conversion traits/runes. Also, the addition of confusion options is going to boost not only this build, but condition builds on all classes.

If the nerfs to longbow are significant, I may trade out longbow and pick up mace/shield, in addition to sword/sword for the confusion interrupts. Perhaps I may even modify the traits to include the confusion interrupt trait, which will give 9 total confusion stacks when interrupting a target, with confusion runes on. This is definitely going to be a more powerful, bloodier build no matter which way the build goes.

Heart of the Mists Megaserver?

This is a step in the right direction for promoting a competitive PvP environment. A pvp lobby megaserver will make it much easier for players to assemble teams.

Now we just need dueling options implemented for build/skirmish testing, and a free-for-all pit within the lobby for a complete sandbox PvP customization/tinkering experience.

For the free-for-all pit, make a jump puzzle that leads up into a floating island in the sky where FFA PvP is enabled. The simple jump puzzle will act as a “respawn timer” for dead players in the free-for-all pit, and it will also keep the lobby nice and tidy without graphical clutter.

A PTR for GW2 would be a once in a year thing. That’s how frequent PvP updates are. You just can’t make PvP work like that even with full transparency and test realms, community-elected coordinators and the likes. 1 major overhaul a year can’t compete with frequent updates. Also in LoL they change basic stuff like CS or jungle mob respawns and rewards and add new champions.

The frequency of updates is proportional to the amount of data from testing collected, feedback recorded, and time spent QAing the proposed changes. Testing conducted by ~10 internal testers versus testing conducted by hundreds to potentially thousands of players in a public test realm means that the sheer increase of data collected by ANet will accelerate updates.

It’s the same process that got Google up and going.

You want to stand out from others. Right now it’s your rank that makes you somewhat unique but the playing field will all be leveled out on Apr 15. However, your stats will remain the same. The amount of kills, wins, tournaments played, hours spent, and other stats that led you up to your currently unique rank will not change.

So, if you want the attention and adoration of the community, simply make a new thread and post a screenshot of your statistics every couple months. I’m sure you will get a very positive and warm-feeling response from the community each and every time.

LoL has a very toxic community, an average player age of 12 years old and PvP that works and is regularly maintained as well as fun.

They also have a public test realm accessible to anyone, so the voice and opinions of their community is actually heard straight from the community itself, instead of having interpreters and ambassadors moderate between the community and the game developers like here in GW2.

With a public test realm, the players (the people who actually have to play the game) can directly test and provide feedback on upcoming changes. It empowers the community and gives us an opportunity to truly influence the direction of the game that we, in the end, have to play and endure.

It’s like Neo in the Matrix. Every time the machines release a new version of the Matrix, a Neo-like anomaly is always there, ready to ruin everything. It’s inevitable.

I feel like the devs are taking the correct approach to balance now, though. Community forum feedback is actually being taken seriously, and digested by community devs like Allie and Grouch, and then given to the game devs for interpretation and execution of changes.

The only thing missing is a public test realm, instead of ArenaNet relying on just their handful of 10 internal testers (who are not competitive players…they are same group of people used to test everything: PvE, WvW, and PvP). A public test realm would be an amazing addition to the game, because it would allow devs to “see things out” first before releasing changes to live servers and affect leaderboards, rating, the competitive environment, etc. If ArenaNet wants to foster a growing competitive PvP community, then they must be sensitive to the competitive scene instead of using the live servers as guinea pigs in an experiment.

- Impale (Sword 4) – right now it applies torment over 10s – made it so it applies torments over 4 seconds.

That’s a buff. Torment has become more bursty on warrior. The 5 stacks rack up faster.

The additional torment stacks past 5 stacks was nice but not essential.

With the addition of perplexity runes, condi warrior is going to become even more of a monster. The “shaves” to perplexity runes was actually a good change. Applying confusion when receiving hits is great for condi warrior, who’s supposed to act like a meat shield — even better than the previous effect.

The game already has the infrastructure. Just make the “I am ready” button pressing mandatory. If you don’t press it, you get removed and given Dishonored for afking in queue, and all remaining players return into queue. It’s so simple it’s scary.

League of Legends ranked mode has a similar system during the picks/bans phase, but players additionally lose Elo rating, too. ArenaNet, it’s OK to be strict on your players. Competitive players know what they’re getting into when they click to join arena queue. We are prepared for the consequences, if it means balanced and reliable matchmaking.

I am glad you have found your method of dealing with the hyper regen warriors.

You have it backwards. The shouts build you are referring to is arguably one of the most balanced builds there is, by warrior standards.

No hard CC, which allows the opponent plenty of room for counter game play. No stability, which opens up a variety of situational weaknesses. Low but consistent damage output. No burst. It’s a huge trade off.

Compare this to Hambow: extremely short cool down stuns/hard CC , paired with very high burst damage (high CC should never be coupled with high damage, in any game…), invulnerability to damage and conditions through stances, the longest duration personal stability skills in the game, all in one build.

The shouts build is so balanced in comparison that it makes people suspicious that it’s OP too. There’s nothing broken about full shouts builds. It’s everything a balanced warrior is supposed to be: sturdy body, ok damage but not too much, decent team support.

Tl;dr If hambow warriors = Lamborghinis, then shouts warriors = the plain but dependable Hyundai.

Regarding the Warrior nerf

in Warrior

Posted by: zone.1073

If anything, warrior’s survival was slightly buffed due to overall damage across all classes going down.

And of course, the addition of traits like +1000 toughness on stun break is a pretty big buff for certain builds.

Sound option, in PvP... and in general.

in PvP

Posted by: zone.1073

zone.1073

I’m actually the complete opposite. I play with all sound effects on except for dialogue. I turn the dialogue volume off, which removes the annoying announcer’s voice. I don’t need the announcer to remind me every single time a point is decapped or capped; I have enough map awareness to see what’s going on without that distracting voice blurting a phrase every 5 seconds.

Sound effects are important because many skills have audio tells. I don’t care about the sounds of my own character; it’s more about the sounds coming from my opponents and allies. I can hear when a necro is casting their important signets. I can hear when a mesmer fires a stun, or is casting moa. I can hear when an opponent goes in a blocking stance. I can hear when an engi fires their immobilizing net, which lets me know when to dodge, etc.

Apex Builds vs Individual Class Balance

in PvP

Posted by: zone.1073

zone.1073

Have you considered that perhaps the reason why certain classes have trending builds is due to the meta itself? In your example, many warriors use healing signet, cleansing ire, longbow, but is it because these are overpowered or imbalanced, or is it a direct answer to the meta of extreme AoE condition pressure from tanky builds?

What if the meta shifted back to high burst glass cannons, where encounters are decided in a matter of seconds rather than minutes. Warriors would not be able to keep up with the fast tempo using sluggish heals from healing signet or low direct damage weapons like longbow. Therefore, the rise of greatsword will take place due to its high burst, high mobility, and versatility. Etc.

Don’t single out a few traits and abilities and say that just because everyone uses them, that they are perhaps imbalanced. A class should have access to all the tools necessary to adapt to a meta shift, and perhaps these are the tools that are being utilized to adapt to this meta. You can’t blame players for finding a way to survive and thrive in a meta. Warriors are, in your terms, “pigeon-holed”, not primarily because of the shortcomings of the warrior class itself; they’re pigeon-holed due to the overall meta forcing them to build a certain way to survive the meta.

This topic is about condition warriors. War is an abbreviation for warrior in this topic.

For warriors, conditions and tankiness go hand in hand, because the longer the warrior can survive, the more condition pressure he can output. People often argue “condition builds should not have so much survivability” but for warriors, survivability is directly correlated with condition pressure. Warriors don’t have stealths like mesmers, and don’t have a second HP bar like necros. Mesmers and Necros can build glassy with conditions, and they can get away with it due to their class mechanics giving them “survivability”. For warriors, survivability = tankiness, so no survivability = no condition pressure, so that’s why they have tankiness stats inherently built in.

I find condition warriors to be difficult due to their unpredictable skill animations and long base condi durations. Once you get impaled, torment stacks continuously get applied. Even if you try and cleanse the torment, the torment stacks refresh and get re applied.

Warriors have access to the longest duration burns in the whole game. Combustive shot, on its own, applies 8 seconds of burning. Bow #2 skill, in melee range, applies 6 seconds of burning. Bow #1 basic attack applies 2 seconds of burning per hit through a fire field (combustive shot).

Player skill is not a large coefficient in Build Wars 2. For example, you cannot use a trash build on a trash class, and overcome all odds purely or mainly from player skill only. I can’t use a warrior with rifle and mace + axe, wearing a celestial amulet, with no healing signet and no cleansing ire, and beat a Flavor of the Year necro — unless the necro player has down’s.

in PvP

Posted by: zone.1073

In Ragnarok Online (RO), there were 2 kinds of stealth: cloak (receiving damage reveals you), and stealth (receiving damage does not reveal you, and you continue to be hidden). In League of Legends, some champions cannot go into stealth until they have stopped taking damage (this means that players cannot just vanish mid-fight. They have to create some distance before being able to disappear).

Right now, every stealth ability in GW2 works like the super strong version of stealth in RO. If the devs split stealth into variations, it could make things feel more balanced to the player. This will especially be important when conquest is no longer the only game mode in PvP.

But at least he’s got a “prestigious” finisher that many of the better players in the game don’t have, right? Nothing says prestige like hot-joining to 70.

The fact that a hot-joiner has better, flashier “prestige” or recognition to show off than competitive arena players just shows how poor the incentives are to participate in competitive PvP.

Competitive players could put hundreds of hours into quality, skillful gameplay and yet they are barely recognized for their accomplishments, to the point where whole teams of competitive players are quitting the game.

Just don’t want to make you upset but I believe the idea of your build was already been published by Tarcis like a year ago or more distant…

Anas Tarcis is a very popular, trend-setting player who also isn’t afraid to experiment with new builds and new ideas. While Tarcis’ builds tend to be put in the spotlight more due to his popularity, I am more in the background tinkering with odd builds. So, while everyone runs variations of Tarcis’ builds, don’t underestimate the effectiveness of my builds just because it’s not popular (…yet). :-)

When Tarcis popularized the use of longbow in competitive PvP a year ago, I was already running longbow but with, of course, an odd build:

For starters, here is a popular condition/support warrior guide. If you play arenas often, you’ll encounter this build frequently, so it’s probably best to learn about it and understand it:

Sigil of energy and doom share internal cooldowns, btw.

That is a good build when your team absolutely needs condition damage, and you (the warrior) are the primary condi damage dealer for your team. I used to run that a lot.

Cons:

*I didn’t like how the rabid amulet gives precision, as the precision is wasted in a condi build (especially when you don’t have any Arms traits, or on-crit sigils).
*It’s selfish. No team support utilities.

This is my condi warrior build, refined over many, many months of experimenting. The odd thing about my build is that even though there are very little condi stats built in, it still deals incredibly strong condition damage. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/How-to-dominate-PvP-as-warrior-Shouts/first

I can tell it’s PvE content when nothing makes sense when I’m reading it:

“Thingamabob scarlet now gives increased whatdoyaknows when previously reset assault of the divine knight used to be downed.”
