How does durability really add much sustain? 3 seconds of prot/regen/resist every 20sec really isn’t much. Boon duration is kind of meh, considering we don’t have excess access to a ton of boons.

Which leaves just the toughness, which we can get plenty of other places.

One of the big problems the thief seems to have atm is it’s lack of any serious sustain during a prolonged team fight. Which relegates the thief to the only role they can actually do well, which is jumping all over the map decapping points to throw the other team off.

Mesmer for example has access to near 100% uptime on protection & regen + a 1k heal every time they summon a clone. This is just one example, tempest, dragon hunter, rev, scrapper, etc all have access to massive amounts of sustain.

Which is why these are the classes you see almost 90% of the time in higher ranked tier games currently.

Event contribution question

I know you used to be able to tag a bunch of mobs in an event, and then run off and do another event before the first one completed. Is this still the case? Or do you now need to stick around for the entire event to get contribution for the event?

I’m specifically talking about event chains like Dragon Stand, silver waste, etc. I consistently see people run up, hit the boss like 15 times, and then run off to another event. Is this what we should all be doing?

I haven’t played gw2 in quite some time, so just getting back into the swing of things this past two weeks.

Don’t know why… I’m destroying people in pvp & wvw. Sitting at 2200 power, 2400 armor, 23k health, 100% crit, 202% crit damage self buffed.

I mean… the class is frankly OP as hell…. running around self buffed with those stats.. I can then swap to shiro and kill most people I find in pvp in about 4-5 seconds… some in less time. Bunker builds with a lot of block are the only thing that gives me any trouble.. and even then.. it’s just a matter of taking a little longer to kill them.

The only class I’ve seen more ridiculous are trap dragon hunters basically 1 shotting people with traps.

I’m really quite enjoying my thief, but my regular friends I play with are all telling me to play any other class at all. Honestly are thieves in that bad a place atm? Or is it one of those things there the class just has a stigma around it?

I never .. ever.. play SPvP. But I do quite enjoy WvW & PVE content.

1. Open http://gw2status.de/ in another window. Take note of which servers are in green, meaning they are up.

2. Right click your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut you use to launch the game and select “properties”
You will notice a “target” towards the top with a line of text including GW2.exe. All you have to do is copy and paste this at the end of that text…making sure there is a space between the current line of text, and the text you are adding.
-assetsrv (IP address of one of those green servers from step 1)
So it should look something like this when done:
“C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.128:80
Then hit “Apply” / “OK” and launch the game

I have the same problem. Even when I equip the scanner from my backpack, the quest still says “talk to Majory Delaqua”. When I talk to her the only option i get is “not right now i’m busy”. Even with the scanner equiped.

This goes way above and beyond just wanting an underdog type of fight. The scoreboard quite literally takes a lot of the fun out of WvW. Trying to make what should be a casual & enjoyable experience into an esport. When we already have SPVP for that.

Remove the scoreboard from WvW entirely. Boom… Fixed… Done.. DAOC (the mother of WvW.. AKA… RVR) never needed a scoreboard. You kept score by who held what keeps at any given time. And it changed daily.

The scoreboard only servers as a way to show off your kitten & upset people that get stomped every week. Removing it can only help the game. This makes playing WvW more about being fun, in the moment, siege warfare. Less about points, stat whoring, and some virtual scoreboard that just kitten es people off every week.

Keep the scoreboard for in house use at ANET if to calculate matchups. But otherwise take it out of the game. People will kitten at first, but end up much happier for it.

This actually makes a lot of sense, people would actually play to have fun and not to see some number growing. The way it should’ve been from the beginning.

I’ve proposed this several times before. But I never get a response from players or dev’s. So it never gets traction. I reposted a post I made about a year ago in the suggestion forums. We’ll see if it actually gains traction this time.

The WvW rankings system has been a head ache ever since the game released. No matter what tier servers are put in, someone ends up unhappy about it. That unhappiness translates to forum posts here complaining about it. So I propose the simple and easy fix.

Remove the scoreboard from WvW.

DAOC (the mother of WvW) never had a scoreboard, and players loved the game. We never needed an artificial means to tell us if our realm was winning or loosing the overall fight. This was because every time you logged on, the only thing that mattered was how your realm was doing at that very moment. What castles you had, what relics your realm owned, etc. etc.

RvR was played for fun & enjoyment. Guilds didn’t server hop to join the “winning side”. Because it was all about just having fun. I played Hibernia on Lancelot from the game’s release. We were almost always the underdog for the first several years. And we didn’t care. We still went out every single day, and gave a good showing of our selves. All because it was just fun to do so.

As it stands now, once a realm starts to fall behind on the scoreboard often times they will just give up and stop queuing. As they know they have no chance to win that round. Which progressively gets worse and worse until the match is reset. If this continues week in and week out, guilds start to leave that server for a server that wins more often.

The scoreboard serves no purpose in an RvR type of a game. The only reason for that is to stroke other players kittens. Leave that crap in SPvP. Keep the scoreboard for your in-house use, so that you can properly match servers when needed. But please take it out of the game.

I hope this doesn’t get ignored, but it might. But what do you have to lose trying this out for a week or two? You will most likely find that players respond quite well to it. There will be some people that shout “I can’t tell who’s winning” at first. But they will hopefully soon realize that WvW is just as fun, if not more fun, when your not always worried about the scoreboard.

I recieved a wing cover from a coffer today, but I can’t figure out how to sell it on the AH for the life of me. I see that there are plenty of them on the AH already, so I know it’s possible to do.

Just for what ever reason, when I right click them the option to sell them at the trading post does not come up. They are not account bound, and I can mail them. Not sure what else I could do.

Do i need to transmute them onto another back item?

Few guild mates & I were talking the other night about how nice it would be to have a mini that followed you around and picked up loot bags for you. This would be the perfect store item. I know I would for sure buy one, and I’m willing to bet that many others would.

The only downside I see to this, is that it would cause added lag in WvW if everyone was running with these mini’s. Perhaps you could choose to disable the visual effect of them in WvW and still retain their gathering abilities?

My friend from work wants to start playing the game, but his PC can’t handle the massive fights on Sanctum of Rall (my home server). So we are looking for a server for him to call home before he buys the game. His PC handles 15-25 v 25 v 25 fights without any problem. But when you get 50 vs 50 or large his PC starts to flip out.

So ideally we are looking for a server that is still active in WvW, but has smaller zergs running around all of the time. He also likes the idea that keep doors & walls might last longer than 20-30 seconds with a less zergy server.

Anyhow, if anyone has suggestions for him. Drop a response here plz.

Friend of mine is telling me I need to build power/crit for us to do dungeon runs instead of building condition. If this is indeed true, could someone please give me an example of a power/crit build for a necro that might work for both dungeons and WvW?

Up until this point I’ve only run conditions & wells.

Honestly one of the big reasons GW2 WvW doesn’t work quite like RvR in daoc, is due to the scoreboard. People are too obsessed with the scoreboard to actually get the two underdog realms together and beat on the bigger of the 3. They are worried that if they do that, they may end up 3rd instead of 2nd on the scoreboard. It is much easier for the bigger of the two realms to just pick on the bones of the 3rd realm the entire match.

Often times servers that are getting trounced in score simply stop queueing, and wait out the time until the next match up. Instead of just going into WvW and having fun. Players are too worried about their ranking and their current score on the board. Battle decisions are made purely dependent on how many points it will net your realm, instead of tactical impact that those decisions may have. The scoreboard is a crutch at the moment, and it’s a crutch that is getting in the way of how good WvW could actually be.

I am not saying that server rankings should go away all together, simply keep the scores in house. Instead of displaying them in game, simply keep them as metrics used in house to rearrange the server match up’s as needed.

If you remove the numeric portion of the WvW, that still leaves the “looking at map and seeing everything one color” portion.

That isn’t as big of a deal, as there is an ebb and flow to the battlefield. Today when I logged into Planetside 2. (uses the same 3 faction PvP system as WvW) One faction had us pushed back to our spawnpoint. Our faction rallied together, and pushed the other faction back. Retaking all of our territory and more.

Thus when people logged on after our major offensive was finished. They would see that we owned 75% of the map. Where as 3 hours earlier we had only owned about 15% of the map.

This type of ebb and flow will naturally balance out the problem of server hoppers and people looking to always jump on the winning side. Just the nature of the system.

Please Read the entire post before you condemn it solely based on it’s first few sentences.

A bit of off the wall thinking. But what if they removed the scoreboard & point system all together from player view? Keeping it for internal use to match up servers, but players would be unable to see any scoreboard.

Both Planetside and DAOC used this 3 faction pvp siege system, and in both games it worked very very well. People were happy with it for years, even if they played on an under populated realm.

The key is that there was no scoreboard in either game. You never knew just how badly you were getting crushed on an overall basis. The game was less about points & score, and more about logging in and having fun with friends in an open PvP environment. It really didn’t matter what happened the day, or hour, before. As it was always about the time your logged on and having fun. Some of the most epic memories I have of either of those games was coming back from a massive push from the opposing factions, and retaking our bases/keeps.

This would do several things.

  • It would alleviate the population drop when people see their realm is falling behind on the WvW scoreboard.
  • It would alleviate the NEED to have round the clock guilds to feel like you can compete. Because it’s more about what any player can do with the play time they personally have, rather than what kind of stagger of WvW guilds you can pull off.
  • It would make the game more generally enjoyable, as people feel less pressured to run around playing PvDoor for points. And encourage actual PvP.
  • It Would encourage tighter knit guild communities having fun, coordinating, and interacting. Rather than massive zerg guilds required to win the matchups on some scoreboard.

I understand that there are players that crave the need to see what their team is doing in a numeric way. They crave these scoreboards as part of that competitive spirit. But that is what TPvP is for. Scoreboards like this don’t have a place in the WvW type environment. And the problems we are seeing in WvW compared to DAOC & PS1 are pretty obvious.

While this would help alleviate the botting problem, it wouldn’t solve the problem of the mass wealth already accumulated by the botters which has already ruined the economy.

If ANet was to open up a fresh server after fixing the botting problem, sooo many people would flock to it just for the economy reset alone.


ANet’s approach to fix botting bot lowering the reward rate for events concurrently done over time doesn’t really solve the botting problem. And hurts us real players more than it harms the bots.

I currently have 3 80’s and am working on my 4th. I was in a guild with a group of friends up until recently, we had been together for a few years now. Most of them lost interest in GW2, and drifted apart. So I find myself afloat and guildless, I am looking for a guild that encapsulates the following.

  • Decently sized active member base. Around 10-12 members online at most times, with upwards of 20-30 online during peak hours. It doesn’t matter to me if you have 300 members if only 6 of them are online at a time, and 3 are not representing the guild.
  • Strong, active, and organized leadership
  • Mature, adult community, no children or trolls please
  • Preferably there will be players online throughout the day. But my mates and I tend to play PST times to late night more often than not.
  • Voice comm’s – vent/ts/mumble/ etc – must be actively used, and not empty 24/7
  • Drama, attitude & inflated ego’s left at the door
  • Someone in it for the long haul. I want a guild I can stay with for years, not one that is unstable and may disband in a month.

I know this may be a tall order, but I’m not going to settle either. I have no preference of server. But I would enjoy a guild that is active in both WvW & PvE.

Just curious if anyone is having trouble tagging mobs and getting loot as a staff/condition build as a mesmer in high level DE’s. I haven’t tried it out, but have been tempted as I want to eventually switch to staff for WvW.

currently running a GS/Sword setup and while tagging for loot isn’t easy. It’s not impossible. How bad is it as a condition/staff build?

Also this would help with all the other bugged events. Currently in our firefly fen there are 5 bugged events. That’s 5 out of about 24 events that simply can’t be completed.

Would it be possible to get daily server resets during the off peak hours until all of these skill point’s are fixed? Currently have 9 zones which have bugged skillpoint challenges on HoD. (that I know of)

I know this isn’t a permanent fix at all. But at least put a bandaid on it until the problem is resolved. This would double as a boot for all the botters out there. At least giving us a few hours relief until they are back in game.

Just curious are botters are still being banned? Sitting here on the centaur bridge in Kessex Hills on henge of denravi and there’s got to be at least 18 botters here if not more that are not phased in.

The same people I’ve seen there over the course of the past few days, that I have reported each and every time. Kind of makes me wonder if A-net gave up banning them all.

Reminds me of the den that they shut down in Gendarran Fields, but not quite as many people exploiting it.

Currently very unhappy with the shatter skills as they are working now. Often against a moving target they fail to hit the target at all. Granting me a long cool down for zero effect. While I agree with many of the fixes proposed here to fix the shatters. IE make the clones/phantasms warp to the target instantly etc. etc.

What if we traded the 4 shatter skills for the 4 mantra’s as a class skills? Making the 4 shatter skills utility skills instead, and the 4 mantra’s free to all. This would make it so that you didn’t absolutely have to use the shatters as a mesmer if you didn’t want to. But we would still get the unique class abilities.

Currently running a Greatsword/sword power/crit build. And while it’s hard to tag more than one or two mobs per wave in events it’s not impossible.

Playing with the idea of switching to a condition damage / staff build and I’m curious is it even harder to tag mobs enough in events to get credit?

Just to head off some misdirection ahead of time. I am not talking about getting credit for the event (gold, silver, bronze) but talking about credit for the individual kills in a mob pack. IE. Mob is lootable or not.

The running into a wall with auto-run was working until recently, removed a player from friends list for doing it. Jamming a coin etc into your keyboard to constantly turn your character would still also be working, because it’s constant input from the user.

But those two ways aside, many people are using 3rd party macro programs like the G15 keyboards etc. To give input at somewhat regular intervals, so as to prevent being auto logged out.

Just be aware that there is a very large population of players that are using exploits or macro’s to stop from being afk timed out while in WvWvW. This behavorior is a huge part of why you are seeing the queue times you are seeing, and is one of the hug cruxes of WvWvW. Not only are these people destroying the queues, but they are also unbalancing the forces actually playing. If 20% of the people are afk at a given time, that is 20% fewer people actually helping your team.

Many of these people are in WvWvW from the moment the server goes live until it is taken down for maintenance never leaving. Even though they may only be playing 2-3 hours out of 23-24 hours they are in the WvW map.

There are two ways people are using to stop from being auto logged out. The people that are simply running into a wall or have a object stuck in their keyboard to keep turning them are easy to detect. But those people using a complicated macro that causes them to take and action (turning 3degrees) at random intervals are harder to detect.


The only real way ANet can outright prevent this type of behavior would be to add a captcha type event. It may not have to be a sequence that you have to type in. But simply a window that pops up that says click the picture of the scissors.

This event could be triggered on people that haven’t taken more than X unique actions within a certain time limit. Say 4 unique actions within 5 min.

But unless something is done to address and combat this core issue, many of these other options being discussed really won’t matter.
