I tried deleting that file mentioned in the link BrownMonkey posted. It worked until the next time I tried to play then back to normal. So deleted it again. I notice that file holds the username when I check the remember log in name (I didn’t say remember password).

So tried again only this time didn’t do the “remember username” bit but typed it in manually. Played just fine for hours. Logged out and did the remember name again and got error 7 randomly. Tried it again by deleting the file and not using remember name and again played for hours without issue again.

Hope this helps some people.

Can’t post, remember?

But they are now saying because the GW1 account was linked to an account, those accounts can’t do the trial. “Because the trial is a limited time”. So another account must be created if the person played GW1 and linked the accounts according to support.

yes and they don’t even reply. Which is why I am posting since they don’t answer.

And changing the account name seemed to work but actually the trial was attached to a brand new account so no HoM connection can be made.

I know someone with a GW1 account who tried to play this trial. The screen shows an error that says there is no GW2 access to the account when using client to log in. When trying to register for trial it says the password must be 8 characters and it’s actually 8 or more. When trying to contact GW1 support, they say they can’t help. And can’t post here on GW2 forums because no account.

Yep. When you change your GW2 account password, it also changes the GW1 to the same.

Maybe they are confusing GW1 with SWG (Star Wars Galaxies)

When I read the reason his friend gave, this was my first thought. That’s the only game that had that kind of major reaction. CoX did with ED but not on the scale of SWG did.

I am not sure if it was zoning. But I did log out and noticed it didn’t continue when I logged back on. I guess I died while my character was sleeping?

Why do female soldiers / officers insist on being called "sir" in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stormstrike.9147

stormstrike.9147

I’ll be sure to let every female officer I worked with in the fleet know they should have chewed mykitten for calling them ‘sir’ after I was explicitly told to, Josh.
Now, maybe some are more lax; most of the ones I met didn’t care: ‘Sir is fine.’ Maybe you found some hardasses or something. I don’t know.

Totally agree.

But what is “chewed mykitten”?

Edit: nvm. Filter places kitten instead of censored or some other word.

Why do female soldiers / officers insist on being called "sir" in this game?

stormstrike.9147

Uh…. No. In every branch of service in the United States military uses “ma’am”, because it makes sense. If you use “sir” to a female you will be getting blasted. I can’t speak for every other english speaking military as well but from what I’ve seen it is the exact same thing because saying “sir” to a female is just stupid.

This is not true. So using that as a basis for the reason of the thread, Anet did it right already.

At the time of GW2 release, I was in TOR and STO. Since GW2 release, those as well as CoX since NCSoft announced the CoX shutdown on the same week as GW2 release. Trying to get some time in Paragon City and Rogue Isles before the shutdown.

In my opinion, the armor is ugly in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stormstrike.9147

stormstrike.9147

Actually the armors aren’t that great looking in this game. It’s why I run to my HoM so much to grab the skins all the time. The armors aren’t what I’d call ugly like the OP did but they are far from great as well.

How long would it take to get all unlocks from GW1 for GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stormstrike.9147

stormstrike.9147

I basically got GW1 just to prepare for GW2 and it took me over 1000 hours to get 50/50 and gwamm. I didnt ask people to gift me stuff to speed it up thought.

When did you get GW1? I can’t see how a new person under a year can have 50/50 without buying some things or being gifted. You have to get the required points in each area and the one that is for mini’s I doubt you got the points considering you mainly get them on the character’s birthday gifts.

Go to your HOM rewards calculator and then post a link using the Save or Share in the top corner.

OP, unless you’re a guy who must have all titles, getting to 30 is all you need to do. After 30 is only 4 titles you unlock every 5 points. And btw, those items are just skins and not actually items. I thought we’d get actual items. Only real items are pets for rangers. (only reason I rolled a ranger was to take advantage of what I earned in GW1)

While I can see the OP’s points, I am glad GW2 is not 100% the same as GW1. And that GW1 servers are still up. Because it gives me a choice which to play when the mood hits me.

There are aspects of the first game I liked more and aspects of the second I like more.

Open pvp servers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stormstrike.9147

stormstrike.9147

Anet have already stated that they wouldn’t have pvp servers. As far as they’re concerrned, WvW is open PvP. They’ve gone to a lot of effort to remove opportunities for griefing, and put in a lot of things to promote co-operative play and a good server community.

Doesn’t leave any room for open world pvp, I’m afraid.

One main problem with the PvP in the previous game was the snobbatude of some players. They’d get mad if you bring a level 20 you took time to level and learn to play well. Yet they didn’t care if you bring a toon you created two seconds before playing and never had time learning how to play it. I’m glad they did away with that PvP-only concept that was great idea but once the human factor entered it, made it useless.

@killimandros, also the rest of your specs show that card will be your bottleneck. The CPU with the right card should have this game flying. I don’t see you put the RAM info but with Win7 64, you can throw any amount of RAM you can afford at it. But I hope you have at least 4 gigs (I assume so since most people with a 64 bit OS has at least that much).

This is the situation now (I have 12g ram though). Got myself a new card. 660 (just testing). Same problems. But, it looks prettier before it freezes…

Your machine blows mine away now. And I don’t get this freezing. With what you posted before going by benchmarks:

CPU – You win, I lose. (I have an AMD but want to go Intel but didn’t want to reinstall everything lol)
Amount of RAM – You win, I lose (8 gigs here)
Before only thing that benchmarked better with what we had was old card. Now that you got the 660 – You win, I lose.

Yet I am not getting this freezing issue you are. And I have my settings all up on high. Your rig should be able to handle GW2 with blazing success. Before I would think good success (not great) but now it should be beyond great with your specs.

You mentioned Max Payne 3 but also said other games no issues. Are any of them MMOs?

And sometimes GW2 has weird issues. Weird as in the so-called support page suggestions do not fix the error given. Like I got constant error code 7’s and come to find out all the suggestions didn’t work but simply changing my IP by cloning the MAC address to the router fixed it. I know not your issue but saying this to show I know it can be a bizarre thing that’s not what one would expect. And support guys with tickets never even suggested that.

But can you run a test on your memory sticks? There’s a memory test program out there that’s free to use called MemTest86+. With it being new setup, it’s rare but can happen that a stick just has issues and that would let you know if it is. Or you can use the one built-in with Win7 if you don’t want to download MemTest86+.

One for Win7 is just click the Orb or start button, then in the search type Memory and it will bring it up. (I think it will bring up the memory tester by just typing “mem”).

But why GW2 would act up if memory stick has an issue, would be weird but check to cover the bases.

Just tried them, no significant changes coming from the 306.02 for me.

I wouldn’t expect much difference between the last beta drivers and this. They probably don’t change things from last beta builds to release drivers since if they did, it would require another beta build to test any big changes.

Listen here. I run this game on my old GT9800 card which is 9 years old with NO freezes/blackouts. I read that rewiev you linked, and I have also read other rewievs, and what you are saying doesnt make sense. This card should be more than enough to handle gw2, on most settings.

Fact is the 630 is a repackaged 440. You can scream about it being new all you want, but it doesn’t change it’s not better than “older” cards. I went from a 460 to your very card and took it back to the store because I had worse —- repeat WORSE performance and went back to the 460. And the guy asked why I was bringing it back, I told him it was just to replace a working 460 and he said “Oh, that was a downgrade. Let me get your money for you.”

So I should not expect gw2 to un on this card, even though its newer than the game itself. OK…. Which card should one expect the gamers all over to use in order to run this game? Btw. I am playing Max Payne 3 on it right now…

I am not saying GW2 should not run at all on the card. I am saying you would get better performance out of a 460. And if you shop around, you could have probably gotten it around the same price (give or take) now since the 6 series is the current.

What version of Windows and it didn’t make you reinstall going from AMD to Intel?

First shots I almost just dismissed because it was more people in the shot so that drop is expected at least a little. However, nice job on the second one as it was basically identical to dismiss what would have been my first claim.

But wasn’t the i5 2500k the chip out around the time of the 1055t? The 2500k still beats it in benchmarks but just adding this.

There is no difference wether I play on lowest or highest. My game freezes anyway. And seriously. This graph card is new. I can run ALL other games at max with it.

The 630 is basically a redone 440. That’s why I said a 460 would give you better performance than that. Doesn’t matter if new or not. It’s a card that sells for 60 dollars new ought to tell it’s not really a gaming card.

I have the blackout/freeze issues, and I can say it did not help at all. Same issues since I bought my new pc (2 days ago now). Game is unplayable.Period. Speccs; Acer Aspire, w7, 64-bit. IntelCorei7 processor 3770, NVIDIA GeForce GT630

Second number being a 3 on the GeForce is not good. You’d get better performance out of a 460 than that. Turn your settings down.

I would suggest fixing the link to just the search for drivers page. Not everyone uses those OS’s and not everyone who does has 64 bit OS. They may just download without looking and realizing they need to search for there own drivers on nVidia’s site.

Is there a fix in sight? This is becoming a joke. Why should I log on when I know for certainty that my game will crash within 30 mins? And I am clearly not the only one. The forums are filled with players experiencing identical issues.

After posting Crash Reports, DxDiags, and the logs from anet Advisor thing….most people are told that they need to update drivers. It’s not an issue with our PCs when every other game works. It’s a GW2 issue.

No news has been released on the issue other than to say ‘we know’ and no fix appears to be coming any time soon.

I’m tempted to just give my game to someone else.

Deeply frustrated…

Edit: INB4 ‘my nvidia card runs fine!’

i payed £39,99 for this and all it does is crash my computer . guildwars 1 was way better anyways but that besides the point. i dont like the skill system in this game at all.
im gonna try download the new driver for video card if anyone care of is intrested i have nvidida geforce gt525m. but i dont see this making a real difference.

That 525 is not a great one for gaming. The numbering system now used by nVidia in the last 5 or so years is the second number determines how good the card really is for gaming. That 2 means run the game at medium and don’t even try it on high unless you want issues.

error code 7:11:3:189:101

I kept getting the error 7 message and had a ticket that didn’t solve the issue but I figured out what caused it.

Support told me to try connecting while directly connected to my modem and not use the router. I was able to play without error 7 that way. So they told me to disable my firewall and security to play. Basically, open myself up to hacked just to play this game. Nevermind all other games worked without having to do this including GW1.

So I tried another router I had laying around and again played without a problem. Only thing is that router had other problems which is why it was laying around and replaced.

Reconnected my newer router and error 7 every few minutes again.

I went into that router config and cloned the MAC address of my computer to it so it would grab a new IP. Suddenly the router I used that got constant error 7’s no longer got error 7’s.

This may not work for everyone but might help some. Clone your MAC address or whatever you need to do to get another IP from your ISP. And see if that makes your error 7’s woes vanish like it did me.
