“Yes, let’s go to somebody who has had some fears about his leadership against the dragons, and tell him he’s a dragon minion.”
All you say is theory. Suddenly withdrawing all sylvari from the Pact units would rare a ton of suspiscion. There is no promise we would’ve seen Tarir or Rata Novus in a vision, or that we’d reach either location with the help the grounded pact forces did provide in a sense.
Lives may be saved because of the fleet not going into the jungle, but many would be lost by the Mordrem charge (which is partly what the fleet bombarded), and the conflict between sylvari and other races.
Think about it, we got this big summit of all the races to fight against Mordremoth, then suddenly all the Sylvari pull out and retreat to the grove/surrounding areas without saying why to the other races. Trahearne and/or sylvari PC refuse to comment. That’s going to do lovely things for the whole “UNITY!” aspect.
Caithe made mistakes, but the hate is overdone and frankly more annoying and sad then spawning interesting discussions.
I still think the Pact would have sent the fleet into the jungle even with Caithe’s knowledge about the sylvari. They just wouldn’t have sent sylvari. So…the fleet would still be destroyed either way.
They had to do something about Mordremoth and the fleet worked against Zhaitan so that was pretty much their only plan. The sylvari turning didn’t help but it was the vines that brought the fleet down.
It seems more that she has a plan to manipulate Lazarus, and doesn’t want the commander to know, since he’d never agree to it. Act like she has joined the Mantle, serving Lazarus…and then backstabbing him or giving us info. Jory had always been the detective of the group after all.
I was thinking the same way. I don’t feel she would actually betray the Commander. She is basically doing what she does best which is investigate.
Exactly! Marjory’s job is a detective. It’s either this or she got into an argument with Kas and the emotional turmoil is making her make stupid decisions. Maybe that’s why we haven’t seen Kas at all in LS3. I love Kasjory though so I’m hoping that theory is wrong. Please just let it be Marjory doing her job as a detective.
It’s probably both reasons. Her motives are simply to see if Lazarus is being legit. I don’t think she really trusts him or has some kind of ulterior motive.
Marjory’s attitude with the Commander in the scene is likely due to the ‘personal issues’ with Kas. People take their crap out on others (who have nothing to do with it) all the time. I got a vibe she was in a bad mood from the start of that instance.
Caithe is a lot of things but selfish is not one of them. I have no idea where that comes from. We know she’s had two goals throughout most her life. One, save the world from destruction by Elder Dragons. Two, protect the sylvari people no matter the cost. She also believes these two are in direct conflict with one another since killing Mordremoth could possibly destroy the sylvari.
In the end, Caithe wants what’s best for all (end the Elder Dragons). If she were truly selfish, why wouldn’t she just run off with Faolain and let the world burn? She would be happy at least.
Caithe was also the DE member who fought the hardest to get them back together while most of the others let their own personal issues get in the way… I’m not at all seeing how Caithe is the selfish one.
The third one is especially awesome but all look good so far.
If it’s just one HP you need, you could always grind out a few WvW ranks in EotM and buy a scroll of Maguuma heroics.
So, I’m guessing Braham will resurface with his mom’s bow as a Dragonhunter. I do not like Destiny’s Edge is being phased our by DE 2.0. Or rather how it is happening. I like Braham more than I expected, but…
Except for Rytlock…they’ll never get rid of him.
Of course, he’s the one I like the least :P

The HoT story was okay for me. LW S2 was a lot more enjoyable though. I just felt there was more lore and better character development. It was odd that certain members of your little group that usually loved voicing their opinions on things (I’m looking at you, Marjory) barely said anything the entire expansion.
Um…GW1, yeah, I thought that was an awful story (especially Prophecies). Not sure why people like it so much.
Story, while interesting and engaging part of gameplay is expensive and resource heavy to develop while having a very limited replay value.
Look at SWTOR. They put so much emphasis on story during development, that when game ran out of the limited non-story content people quit in droves. So in later patches development of more personalized story content was shelved in favor of making other, less resource demanding content.
SWTOR just released a huge story expansion though. People ran through content quickly at the beginning because that’s what they do. Not saying that SWTOR didn’t totally screw some things up in the beginning…
This would be an awkward twist considering Glint is a Revenant legend designed around helping allies with boons and such.
They would have to do a complete redesign lol.
I don’t think there was time for a ceremony for Eir buuuuuut a norn PC should have different dialog during that scene since their relationship with her was more unique than other races.
When you’re fighting that creature that had Faolain’s face, Caithe shouts: “That’s not Faolain!”
Then the creature replies with something like… “You don’t get it, do you? There was never any Faolain, Caithe or Trahearne. It was all Mordremoth!”
That was …..epic.
The concept that all these people we saw an individuals were just figments of the dragon’s imagination, just illusions of individuality in an ocean of mind, the question of identity, the… the.. the mind-kitten…!
I hope this is something that will be explored further down the line.
Oh yeah I loved that part. My sylvari had a mini existential crisis after hearing that.
Healing is not really needed in events like that. People mostly know when to dodge. And yeah, you won’t get as much credit for not hitting the boss as much.
They could make a mini mega Taimi XD
Taimi was like, the only fun in the HoT storyline. She’s awesome.
Come on OP, Laranthir deserves way better than Canach XD
More sylvari same sex relationships would be nice to see though (that aren’t the travesty that was Caithe/Faolain).
The major problem with having too many lesbian characters though is the story beats you over the head with, “This character would not be into you if they were real.” and makes us care about those characters less. I’m obviously not homophobic or sexist but seeing Faolin die was satisfying because she was an extremely rotten betrayer and not due to gender or even race.
So much facepalm.
It is kinda depressing now playing through all the old story mode dungeons with my Revenant, seeing Eir show up. . . knowing how her story ends.
The entire Caithe thing is just silly. She apparently got another Wyld Hunt that the Pale Tree didn’t know about, and she refused to tell us for no good reason.
Wyld Hunts come from the Dream itself not the Pale Tree. The Pale Tree seems to help interpret them though.
I wouldn’t say there’s no reason she didn’t explain this during LW S2 when Caithe first took the egg. It could be a combination of her personality (loner type that doesn’t trust others easily) and a combination of the strong urges (from the Wyld Hunt) that something must be done right now with the egg to get it to safety (and it was still in danger at the time, surrounded by mordrem). The PC does pretty much this exact same thing in the HoT storyline, even telling Ruka they don’t trust anyone else with the egg.
I hope we don’t kill Caithe (I must be one of the few who really like her I suppose). I don’t think her actions justify it or even threatening to kill her like my PC does in HoT. It’s not like she ever tried to kill or harm the PC. She felt like she was doing the right thing and her actions actually saved the Commander and Crew since they would have been on the ship with Trehearne.
I wish we could have asked her more about what she felt was her Wyld Hunt and where she was taking the egg. The extra dialog options the OP discusses could have helped here. I do also miss those.
I don’t know why Eir didn’t turn into a bear and claw her way out of the cage (it was just some vines….psssh).
If anything she’d do this just to get away from Faolain, who probably didn’t shut up the whole time they were in there together.
I always figured that Caithe would have been immune to Jormag’s influence even without the magic crystal since sylvari can’t be corrupted by the Elder Dragons. Giving her the crystal seemed unnecessary but maybe this fact wasn’t known at the time. I’d imagine it wouldn’t help her against Mordremoth’s influence since sylvari are it’s minions.
And if so, should we not have trusted that Caithe was faithful from the start? That her stealing the egg was her trying to do right by Glint, who gave her life in the fight against her master, that Destiny’s Edge were witnesses to. I wish I had more choice in what my character felt towards her, I really do.
Yeah, I really didn’t like how my character threatened to kill her at least twice when she did basically the same thing the Commander does with the egg. I mean, I see how they’d be a bit angry at her for not explaining her actions but holy cow. I was even playing a sylvari and the two had been friends for some time.
She doesn’t have to be dead, we could have killed a clone, or there might still be a clone somewhere. After all Faolain wasn’t exactly looking like herself all that much.
She wasn’t yet taken to the ‘clone factory’ so I doubt that.
Why would you want an obvious backstabbing character ? It was already boring with Khilbron, back in the days.
I think some were looking for ‘obvoius backstabbing character who doesn’t backstab you since they’re forced to work with you out of necessity’. We do see a Nightmare Court member allied with the pact in Dragon Stand event but we don’t know much about her.
I hope they don’t completely drop the Nightmare Court lore but it doesn’t look good after they killed off the face of the group (Faolain). Going into HoT, I couldn’t even name another surviving member of the group and now she’s dead. I felt this happened with the Inquest when they killed of Kudu which reduced the group to a bunch of nameless mooks you kill in the open world. There was a Nightmare Court Duchess helping out in the Dragon’s Stand meta event (don’t remember her name) so maybe something will happen with her…
As for Malyck, I don’t think there’s much mystery there anymore. When he shows up in the personal story, he’s there to challenge the idea that the Pale Tree sylvari were just special snowflakes and no other life like them existed. The fact that there were other trees hinted at something larger going on with the race (which we now know all about). The only outstanding mystery there is why the Pale Tree sylvari were different from all those others (most of them probably ended up as mordrem).
On a related note, Caithe had so much prime potential for a redemption death. It would’ve been so easy to make work and would’ve ended her character arc on a much less awkward note than the current “lol i have trust issues” thing she has going currently.
Sigh.
There are other ways to redeem a character besides death (they are already a bit too heavy handed with death for character development/redemption imo).
Plus, I’m probably in the minority here, but I don’t think what Caithe did was all that bad. If she didn’t follow through with her Wyld Hunt, the Commander and gang would have shared the same fate as Trahearne and the rest of Destiny’s Edge. I played the story as a sylvari Commander and it felt like my character was no different from Caithe in regards to the egg. She was just as obsessed with getting her hands on it and even stated at one point (to Ruka I believe) she didn’t trust anyone but herself with it. It almost seemed as if my sylvari was yet again sharing a Wyld Hunt with Caithe except this time they were initially at cross-purpose due to Caithe’s inability to trust others. It’s definitely a major character flaw she still has but this experience could give her a chance to develop as a character (w/o death).
I’m a bit surprised the spike hurt Eir that bad when you consider how strong Norn are, and how weak Sylvari are for that matter.
I think Eir was a lot weaker than usual since she wasn’t given food/water for a few days. I think Faolain (as a sylvari) can still get nourishment from the sun so would have actually had a physical advantage over Eir in that situation.
I feel sad about Faolain more than Trahearne.
The moment when Faolain talked about Nightmare Court wanting freedom, I wanted her to be an ally so we can learn more about the Nightmare Court.
I agree. I think tying the NC into the storyline more (in an uneasy alliance of some sort) would have been pretty interesting.
Plus, Faolain attacking Eir seemed really out of character for her. It was just so colossally stupid. Eir was no threat to her and the immediate danger (the huge kitten vinetooth) was still chasing after both of them…why the heck would she pick a fight with the much larger norn woman who has eight of her friends nearby? That’s just suicide. Faolain’s cunning and manipulative but not stupid evil. She’s the one we see who often hides behind her NC cronies and illusions instead of ever putting her own neck on the line.
